Humbled By A Real N*gga

Rate this book
Saije experiences heartbreak at a young age with the death of her father and baby brother, leaving her and her Stepmother to pick up the pieces and move forward in life. From adolescence into early adulthood, Saije has always loved two men. Her best friend, paid and sexy dope boy Holden “Humble” Langsen, and her boyfriend, promising future and cutie-pie star basketball player Keron Denver. Saije is forced to choose a side, and unfortunately for her, she makes the wrong choice. Millions of dollars and a whole lot of fame later, Saije is still unhappy with her life and doesn’t realize it until tragedy strikes, and she is obligated to go home since she has taken residence outside of her home state. In the city, she is connected with her handsome, paid, and well-respected cousins Dior and Doe, who have the city on lock. Not only does she link with family, but a trip to the grocery store brings her face to face with an old flame. The one she let get away. Ryla, Saije’s college roommate turned best friend, enjoys life by running through men and dodging any type of attachment to them. All she wants is a good time, and it works for her until she meets Sy, a multi-platinum producer that informs Ryla that her hoeing for free isn’t as upholding as she thinks. He lets her know off the bat if she’s spreading her legs, the least she could do is require something from the men that climb in between them. Ryla isn’t feeling the way Sy comes in and shakes things up and tries to dodge him, but little does she know, her open legs came in handy because they dig up old bones, literally. In this novel, you’ll find uncanny love connections, secrets unveiled, and a whole lot of blasts from the past. One day you’re living life thinking you’re on your A-game until you’re humbled by a real n*gga.

Amazing Read

I loved the characters in this book the plot was mind blowing I haven’t read anything remotely close to it. Everybody is suspect I don’t trust anybody it’s a million secrets. If they don’t kill that man Ima hop in the book and do it myself. I can’t wait to read more of this authors work she is super talented.

So much

There is so much going on in this story. From secrets to lies, to so much dysfunction. Toxic relationships, dead end relationship, and a few psycho"s. I can't get enough of it all.

This was a skim read for me. Meaning I was flipping through it and read whatever was interesting.

I’m not a fan of too many Point of Views.
Doing too much. Almost DNF.

Too many point of views means too many things going on. Just a big mess. At one point I’m like ok this messy but then the daddy was messing with humbled step mom?? Now you just writing shi**t at this point.

The writing is good. Storyline doing too much. And what’s killing me is that these characters storyline is very enjoyable.

Like I’m all for Saije & Humbled storyline. Ivoree & her man storyline interesting as heck. Ryla & Sy storyline also interesting as heck.

These couples is the only reason why imma try to read book 2 but imma skim it.

These couples could have literally have their own book & would have been able to hold it down accordingly.

I don't even know where to start but there is so much going on. Holden love for Saije is definitely interestung. Saije was a young woman caught up in her feeling for 1st love and best friend. Saije's character is sicken. There is no kind of growth in her. She is still the same naive character from the beginning of the book.

Talk about juicy is Doe's storyline. If Jasmine is telling the truth about Ivoree all hell is about to break loose. Doe is so funny, ghetto and don't care what he says. I love it..

There is a lot of characters and there is lot going on. Some of the characters are decent and some is exhausting.

2.5 stars. I’m so glad this book is done and I will not be reading the rest of this series. Too many POV’s, too many plot twists. I thought the book was going to to be about the MMC (Holden) and MFC (Saije) but nope, after introducing them and their history, it took over 50 pages to get back to their POV.

Also, everybody is f***ing each other and it doesn’t make sense. Holden’s and Saije’s parents got a baby together? Saije’s cousin is sleeping with Saije’s dead husband’s mistress? Too much. Way too much. I couldn’t keep up and I found myself skimming.

This is my first read by this author... I will say that I did enjoy this book... This book had a nice steady flow to it and kept bringing them secrets coming... I can say that sometimes while reading I felt like it may have jumped and I was a little lost and felt like I was missing something... But later on it addressed or explained a certain situation and it gave me a better understanding... This book kept my attention the whole time... These characters had me drawn in... There was so many different personalities and they went well together... In a crazy way...
Saije was a very smart girl except when it came to men... She had an amazing best friend named Humble that has always been there for her and her mother... Making sure they were always good. After the death of her dad and brother.. Then she had her boyfriend Keron that kept treating her like trash and constantly cheating on her yet this is who she chose to be with... I know she knew that her best friend was feeling her... I mean he always called her his future... But for some reason she loved being treated like trash and chose Keron over Humble and her world just kind of spiraled from there... She lost her best friend and just had to deal with all Kerons crap and all the different women... Now she has to deal with all that she is going through with her grandma alone... Then she gets hit with this... After years of being away... She comes home because her grandma is sick... Only to have to deal with all these emotions from different angles... What more can she take... I can say one thing about her though... she is a woman of her word... when she says she is going to do something she follows through with it... And because of her her ex best friend is set for life... Even though he dogged her out...
Humble is the man... I love the way he helped take care of Saije and her mom... The love he had for her was so amazing... Don't know why he didn't shoot his shot with her then... Then he got all in his feeling when she decided to take Keron back and walked out of her life... She should have made it know to her how he really felt.... All because he was in his feelings he lost so many years with Saije and is still out here hustling and with a no good gold digging woman that does not want nothing in life but to shop and show off to her friends by his side... That is what he gets... Now look at him settling...
One day after a tragic event in Saije's life... after 12 years she finally crossed paths with Humble... Only to find out he has a whole family... Or does he... Saije was hurt and just over it... But something just keeps pulling them back together... Now look at what has happened... This one night in the club has really changed the life of these two... Will things ever be the same after this...
Then we have Saije's crazy family... Man they are a whole other story... Especially her cousins Doe and Doesey they are crazy and are a piece of work... But I bet all it will take is the right woman to shut them down...
I dont even know what to say about Saije's dad... But it looks like someone has woke things up from the past... And this can cause more pain then expected...
Just when things are starting to settle down... Things start to shake again... Now on to part 2 to see what will happen next...

A Must Read

This was my first time reading something by this Author and I was not disappointed There was so much going on that you had to be on point reading this story. It will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. It is kind of hard reviewing this book without giving away the plot and twists. Saije really had no business marrying Keron. He wasn't worth a damn and it ended up tarnishing and destroying her friendship with her best friend Holden. Along with that Saije was still grieving the loss of her father and little brother. I love the bond between Saije and her stepmother Sadie. With Saije other best friend Ryla being wild and loose. Some secrets was brought to light and the past came knocking at the door. Sy meeting open up the closet and skeletons came tumbling out. I felt bad for Narah after learning what Saije father did to her. I was also glad to see Saije and Holden reunite. Lita is not for Holden. She lazy, money hungry, dizzy, trifling, and don't want nothing out of life but to be the wifey of a street dude. Holden knows she will be his downfall if he doesn't give her, her walking paper's. They are on two different levels. Diorsey is a man of few words but he's feeling Cartier. However she struck a cord within him from her antics and brought out the beast in him. Doe is ignorant. I mean the fool don't have no filter or chill. He had me laughing hard as hell but I can see why Ivoree is attracted to him. Hopefully she'll be able to calm him down.

Ready for book 2, why would Rah try to kill Diablo without a plan or have her family help her when they are heavy in street life. There are a lot of twist and turns in this book, Diablo is pedophile, how could her family let him take their fourteen year old niece and rape her repeatedly without reporting him. Diablo is a weak n-g-a, that needs to be taught a lesson. I hope his son Sy bring him down.
Saije had a good friend/man Humble, why would she marry Keron when she knew he was always unfaithful to her before the were married. Saije was educated, financially stable and she still married a man that couldn’t keep his d-ck in his pant. I am glad Sadie and Humble dad are in a relationship.
Ryle and Sy are in a situation-ship. Doe and Ivoree, Saije husband side piece and family member is dating.
What’s next for Rah and her other daughter that Diablo took and sold? Will Humble and Saije finally have a relationship? I hope these questions can be answered in book 2.

This book got so many twists and turns like a pretzel my goodness. There are so many characters involved, but their journey will all be intertwined.

Dior and Doe crazy but I like the them. I’m interesting to find out who is Ivoree Children’s father because if it’s who it is then if my math is right she may have been with the children’s dad before Saije. We will see.

Now Saije married a trifling man with a harem of women. However, she’s her own boss and knew how to make money like a boss! Not sure how to feel about Holden. He’s trying to be down with Lita, but she’s a no good woman and only in this for the money. Hoping Holden realizes she’s not the one, but he’s feeling guilty to leave her ugh 😑.

Now the parents got their own saga going on. Like I said too much things going on in this book woosa!
I’m looking forward to see how all this will end.

Best friends for life!

Humble is in the streets, but that doesn’t stop him for showing up for his best friend Saijh. She’s lost her dad and her brother, so life has been complicated. So complicated that she lets her boyfriend, Keron dog her out. When an argument takes place, her and Humble goes years without talking. Within those years a lot happens causing the moment they reconnect to make the choice of being more than friends.

Alongside Saijh is her bestie Rhyla. She is not for the weak. She is a go getter and boss babe herself, so she only goes after men for one thing and one thing only. Until she meets Sy who comes with a bag of secrets.

It seems that all connected to Saijh play a major role in how she will later find out the dead don’t stay buried.

I can’t wait to read book 2.

You think you know The Hood? If you don't, Lisa Austin will tell you. Better yet, she'll show you if you read Humbled By A Real N*gga!

Everyone knows The Hood comes with extreme notoriety. Its pull is so strong that outsiders are intrigued by it. Some want to get in or stay in, and others want to get out. Just as it attracts, it repels. Bottom line: The Hood is personified as a dangerous, lonely place that cares for no one. Here are some juicy quotes from the book to tantalize you:

"The harsh reality of it all is, the streets don’t love nobody."

"Good girls want hood n*ggas until some like this happens."

"I didn’t know what I was doing, and it was a gamble, but shid, the streets were a gamble too—the ultimate gamble."

Humbled By A Real N*gga hit me the hardest in the relationship department. It turned my perceptions upside down. This book shows that there is nothing conventional about love because the reader gets to enter the cheater's mind and the cheatee (made that word up). Austin's writing is layered, complex, and raw.

Though there are many characters, each one is a unique puzzle piece that solves the plot in its own way. The sense of rich culture is shown via fashion. It's exciting to read about the luxe and lavish lifestyle Saije and others live. Reading about black characters living like urban royalty is reassuring to me.

Other than the occasional typo/error, I recommend this book!

So thankful it's on Kindle Unlimited. Can't wait to read the next one!!!

Great read!

I’m an old school reader of over 35 years, in love with urban books and street novels, but this is my first time reading from this author. Great penmanship with a good storyline. I prefer reading completed series and standalone books but I can hardly wait for part two of this one to come out. I hate reviews that tell you about the entire book with its ups and downs….makes me not want to read the book… so all I will say is this book is a page turner and well worth losing sleep for. I just hope it doesn’t take months for the second part to come out. That dang Diablo is the devil!

Sajie

Sajie was living with her stepmother they grieved the loss of her father and brother. Her best friend Humble even took care of them even though there was no need. Her father left them money. Humble loved Sajie and was hurt when she chose her cheating boyfriend over him. Ry her best friend couldn’t stand her boyfriend. When Sajie loses another loved one Ry is by her side to help her through. When she goes back to Memphis to bury her grandmother secrets are told and she runs into her ex best friend Humble. Lies told now become the truth and her Memphis trip turns into an eye-opening experience. A great read!

I usually rate and rant as i read, and start off with 3 stars. So let’s dive in.

I don’t like how some reviews are hating on my girl Saije. We know as readers that Holden and Saije are more the best friends. And some of you are hating on bc didn’t immediately jump in his arms and picked her cheating dog ass husband, i’m mad too but hear me out. Holden didn’t see her as a best friend, he was playing the long game. Bc the minute she didn’t choose him he cut her off. I don’t think people understand how much it hurts to see someone as a friend and whole time they were just playing the long game. (35%)

Now yall know I love a good multiple POV and I was not mad at this.
This was my first time reading this author’s work and the story was storying. I knocked off a quarter star because there were some typos and the ages weren’t quite lining up according to my calculations. Nonetheless this was a good kickoff to the series. Lots of comedic relief from the heavy topics. Lots of twists and breadcrumbs to pay attention too. Be advised that there are mentions of r*pe and pedophilia.

Notable characters:
Read and drag a bish for filth Diorsey
Fly mouth Doe

4.75 stars. Okay, Lisa gworl!

❤❤❤

This Book Was So Good...My Favorite Characters Is Doe And Humble...I Also Like Diorsey. That's Messed Up With What Diablo Did And Hopefully He Gets What He Deserves. He Straight Faked Him And His Son's Death And Had His Son Thinking His Sister And Mom Died. I Will Look Forward To The Next Part. I Would Love To See How Things Work Out For Saije And Humble Cause Humble Need To Leave That Chick Lita Alone Because She Is No Good For Him. Loved It! ❤❤❤

Too much

The book has entirely too many characters.
Doe is rude and you could’ve left him off, Cartier’s character is pointless, Dior shouldn’t be that important in the story, he should’ve just stayed the cousin.
It’s just all over the place, should’ve just stuck to Humble, Ryla, and Saije characters, and maybe her parents.
Not a bad book but I was confused with 1 too many characters and chapters.

A Tangled Web

Whoa! This story has so many web tangled, it’s almost hard to keep up. El Diablo is cold blooded and evil. How you rape a 14 year and then you turn around and fake you and your son death from your new wife. Lord! Then Carter and Dior got issues, Holden cheating gin his go with his best friend, then Doe is with Keron side chick. I mean. I’m invested but baby. This is too much lol.

Don’t Know Where to Start

This book had so much potential to be a good read but there were too many characters and several much happening. You barely heard much about the main characters because the secondary characters were the stars. I really wanted to enjoy this book and there were parts that I did. But there was so much “bacchanal” that it became hard to keep up with. Hopefully part 2 will be better.

I’m not gone lie this book was super good I couldn’t put it down I had to know what was on the next page… It was drama after drama 🎭 which brings me to why I left only 4 stars. It got hard keeping up with so many ppl(main characters) telling they stories. You’ll be wondering what happened with one character and won’t find out for 8 chapters it was crazy…Bbbbbuuuut It was awonderful read!💯😍

Lisa

I loved this book I can’t wait for part 2 to come out. I can’t believe that her father did those things to her mother and stepmother I hope that her brother or cousins come and save her mother I can’t believe that he took her other child though he was most definitely sick. I hope that Humble leaves Lita because she brings nothing to the table at all.

Whoa and Wow!!

This is my first time reading this authors work and I must say what a story she has put together. There’s a few places where the editing needs to be checked, but I didn’t let it get in the way of a great story! There’s a lot of characters, so you have to pay attention to who is telling their story. Looking forward to part 2!

Ms Austin you are an amazing author. I have read many books from many authors. You are by far now one of my fave. You do something that is hard for most authors to do, you touched all of the emotion needed to create a good read, laughter, anger, sadness etc. I look forward to reading the second installment

This book is Whew

This book is crazy. Everyone in this story got some crazy shit going on. Let me say this I love me some Dior. His ass is so calm yet bossy. I lo e his laid back attitude. Humble need to get rid of Lita lazy ass. Bitch in her 30s and don't got no type of hustle about herself. And don't get me started on Siel. I don't like that nigga plain and simple.
