The Cecilia Series #2

Cecilia: The Order of Terefellian

Rate this book
From award-winning author Sandra L Rostirolla comes the second installment of The Cecilia Series.

In the wake of her victory over the evil goddess Eifa and the Senators of Vitus, Cecilia is ready to focus on rebuilding, but where there should be peace and light, she finds uncertainty and dread. The Prophecy is incomplete. With dark forces growing in the south, the war to rid the world of evil has only just begun.

Cecilia and Amalardh are forced onto separate journeys. While Amalardh travels to faraway lands in search of answers, Cecilia must discern who to trust and how to keep the world safe from a threat beyond anything she has faced before.

The Cecilia Series is an epic love story between a headstrong young woman who refuses to accept the status quo of her fractured world and an emotionally bankrupt assassin struggling to find his humanity.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Sandra's talents as a lyricist led her to her now husband, composer Kurt Oldman, who co-wrote and produced her CD, THYME. Realizing that writing, rather than singing, was her passion, Sandra began writing screenplays, making the quarterfinals of the American Screenwriters Association Screenwriting Competition, top 200 of Page International, and top fifteen percent of the Nicholl Fellowship.

She wrote and directed the short animation, The Adventures of Gilbert the Goofball, which was runner-up for Best Animation at the Action on Film Festival, and her short story, Lucky Quarter, was a finalist for the Rick DeMarinis Short Story Award.

Selected to participate in the Australians in Film Writers Room, Sandra work-shopped the screenplay version of her novel, Cecilia. She remains active with the core Alumni group, which meets monthly to review and critique each other’s work.

When she’s not imagining fantastical stories grounded by rules and reasoning, Sandra’s usually renovating something around the house, sneaking away with her husband for a last minute ski-trip, or dealing with the unruly strays that seem to enjoy terrorizing her cat.

I like the plot. It is a very good plot. However I fail to like the main character being Cecilia herself as stated in the title. In my opinion the character is still as childish as she was in the 1st book, and it doesn't seem that her character improved. I do like Amaraldh though. His character is still interesting, and he just makes the book better.
In my opinion I think that if the character had developed as well, then the plot would have been even better!

Will life ever be easy for Cecilia and Amalardh? In The Order of the Terefellian, Book 2 of the Cecilia series, the answer is very much, NO. And I’m here for it.

In Book 1, the world-building, character setup, and action scenes are first-rate. In Book 2, the reader is once again immersed in a pulsating dystopian world where battles must be fought, and love does its best to triumph.

This story takes us on two separate journeys. Amalardh must go with his uncle to find the missing pages of the prophecy of the Guassian Tuetin Cave while Cecilia finds herself fighting creatures of the Dark Goddess. As each progresses towards their goal, the battles they face intensify and take their emotional and physical toll on everyone.

The action sequences are fast-paced and provide high intensity and at times I found myself holding my breath wondering how they would outwit their enemy. But we know Cecilia and Amalardh do not mess around and will fight brilliantly to win.

“Amalardh grabbed his knife and sat bolt upright, ready to slay anyone who drew near.”

The stories intertwine seamlessly, introducing new characters that add depth to the story and take us to an ending we don’t see coming. The little extras of bringing in touches of our modern world (ie, a post office) into the dystopian world of Cecilia’s is a nice touch.

Scattered and Disjointed

I really wanted to like this story. It picked up almost 2 years after the events of the first book and we got to see the “other” half. Where the first book dealt with spreading the light and freeing people from oppression and evil, we got to witness the birth of evil/darkness and how they spread their beliefs in aid of “evil triumphing over light.”
At first I was very fascinated and felt that I couldn’t put it down. Then Cecilia was captured and it all seemed a bit downhill. The religious overtones were especially grating. The epic ness of the first book was that the good vs evil thing was clear cut and didn’t rely heavily on belief. Everyone knew the story of the flower princess, but it wasn’t marred with “do you believe in a one true god” type thing.
Then the ending felt incredibly out of left field.
Usually the second installment of any trilogy ends on a bleak note, but this was ridiculous. A lobotomy! An actual lobotomy was performed for no real reason.

4.5/5

Holy Lordy… I am struggling to wrap my head around the absolute fever dream that was this extraordinary sequel.

The first book introduced everyone and gave backstory, this book is where EVERYTHING goes down. With three perspectives and intertwining plots to follow there’s so many things that had me on the edge of my seat. The Midsommer-esc cult! Rubber spider creature things! New characters that bring great dynamics! The consistent twists and turns that left me unable to look away (literally I read it in one sitting)

It was action pact, I thought my heart would stop multiple times at the WHIPLASH of the events occurring!

A brilliant sequel to top the first!

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not sure what to say because I don't want to ruin anything for the next reader. It's another amazing book by Sandra Rostirolla. She's so good at surprises. I never know where she's going next.
I can say that there are some gross icky creatures in this one, so I thought "Ugh, another book with gross icky creatures", but that's just part of it and you get used to them, somehow.
We meet some new characters. I love Forbillian; he's honest and funny. I love Saffron; she's a survivor with a lot of moxie and a good head on her shoulders.
Other than that, I'm telling you to have book #3 waiting in the wings; really, do that, trust me. Just sayin'...

I'm surprised that I actually liked this just as much as when I was taken to a faraway place in the first book. You know how sequels can be. And the best news, there's another book coming!
I also thought I didn't want Cecilia and Armalardh to be separated because I love them together so much. Never have two more stubborn people been created. They actually make me laugh sometimes. But it's really let me get a deeper look at them both. Plus there are some great new characters to meet.

I'm really excited to rejoin Cecilia's adventure. As with the first book, I am immediately transported by Rostirolla's writing, I can't help reading with a smile every time I pick it up. This book is full of some terrifying and interesting characters that keep me on the edge of my seat. I'm happy to see Cecilia's destiny take shape with more adventure and travel to come.
