An intriguing story that kept me turning pages to figure out the twists and turns.

My favorite part was the chapter headings, which revealed wave after wave of the fascinating writing process.

I'm ready to rent a snowbound cabin as a writer's retreat to just see what happens next!

I fell in love with this author's book Leaving Independence. It is an historical romance. So, when I had the opportunity to read an advance copy of her contemporary romantic suspense, I jumped at the chance. This book did not disappoint. I was turning those pages quickly. This book has all the suspense and romance that I love in a story. This is a do not miss for any lover of a romantic thriller.

I loved this book! But first the cover and back cover copy. This is a story I didn’t want to end. It’s a haunting story that will not leave you alone.

I loved the way Smith used writer insights at the beginning of each chapter and the way her words just seemed to flow. She has a poetic cadence to her work that will draw the reader in and not let go. And Canon. He was so perfect for the story. I haven’t read a love story that affected me like this one in a long time.

Maggie is dealing with not only her mid-life crisis but her husband’s as well. I can so easily understand her thoughts in the opening lines. But her husband actually did her a kindness–setting her free to write–and to find a man who truly loved her. But would it be Zeke or Canon? And then there was Zeke’s dad Ollie–the secondary characters almost steal the show.

Watching her journey as a writer was so uplifting. This is both a mystery and a love story, one I believe all readers will love.

This book! All the things I'm looking for in a novel are between the covers of Alone in a Cabin. Leanne W. Smith paints beautiful stories with her words so it's always a pleasure to read her work. Maggie's story is intriguing and relatable for so many. She is facing life changing events and is forced to find the strength and courage to tackle life on her own, while grieving an unexpectedly failed marriage. In this small community Maggie meets fabulous characters that have a lasting impact on her life. But not everything is as it seems. The cabin retreat brings romance, humor, self-reflection, suspense and mysterious happenings that she will need to piece together. Expect the unexpected as you weave your way through this story.

I was thrilled to receive and ARC of this novel for my honest opinion. My honest opinion - buy this book today!

In her new novel, Alone in a Cabin, Leanne Smith weaves intrigue, mystery, redemption, forgiveness, and romance in a story about second chances. Smith skillfully layers stories within story and all the plots come together in the end with a satisfying conclusion and no loose ends.

Alone in a Cabin begins when Maggie learns that her husband of over 20 years no longer wants to be married to her. She rents an old cabin outside Nashville to pursue her dream of writing that she put on hold for her family. In her retreat, she meets other individuals who have suffered great loss, including a handsome, beguiling, escaped convict and a rugged sheriff who lost his first love. Leanne is a gifted storyteller whose characters are credible and likable.

A bonus in the book is how Smith introduces each chapter with a quote or helpful advice about writing or life events. These snippets foreshadow major events in the chapter, and they are explained in more detail in the back of the book. Several of the headings relate specifically to the writing process as Maggie begins writing her first book. Leanne Smith refers to Alone in a Cabin as her “love story for writers.”

If you are looking for a quick read that offers mystery, romance and leaves you feeling uplifted, you will find that in Alone in a Cabin. The timing of this book release is especially appropriate given that many of us have been in a season where our plans have been upended due to circumstances beyond our control.

This review is provided in response to reading an advance copy. I’ve been a fan of Leanne Smith since her first novel, Leaving Independence. I’ve gifted friends and family with copies of her books and I intend to do the same with Alone in a Cabin.

I have anxiously awaited this book! Leanne W Smith is a favorite author. The stories she tells always draw me in and leave me wanting more!

Alone in a Cabin tells the story of Maggie Raines, whose life is turned upside down in a moment. As we follow her moves to make a fresh start, she uncovers an untold story. From this story, she learns a few lessons as well as making a fresh start for herself. The story is a page turner! I was sad when the book ended.

I received an advance copy to write an unbiased, honest review.

WOW! Thank you for allowing me to be an advanced reader of Alone in a Cabin. I hope Leanne continues to write more and more and more! I admit with some authors I sometimes skip pages, but never with one of Leanne Smith’s books. No unnecessary words, ever! I really don’t know how she does it, but she did it again! Can’t wait for her next book.

Leanne truly captured the setting for this story and place perfectly! It kept my intrigue consistently, and I was impressed and touched by how she intertwined Maggie’s reason for going with how it would ultimately touch the community. Beautiful writing. Rich characters. I’m excited for whatever story is next from Leanne W. Smith!

Maggie’s writer’s retreat to a secluded cabin takes an unexpected turn when she is awakened by a banging on the door. This modern day romantic suspense with a “What just happened??” plot twist is not what most fans of Leanne Smith would anticipate - but Leanne proves her depth as a writer and storyteller by captivating readers in a new way. This is a fun, quick read and by the end I know you’ll be like me - hooked and ready for more stories from Marston County. I received an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Congratulations Leanne on a fantastic well written, thought provoking story. A year after Maggie’s husband dropped his bombshell and her divorce is finalised she decides to lease a cabin in Marston County to devote her time writing the book she has always wanted to do. Several days after her arrival during a severe snowstorm late at night she hears knocking on her door as she cautiously opens the door she discovers a man curled up and nearly frozen. She manages to drag him inside and gets him in front of the fire, covers him with blankets and warms up some soup for him, runs a warm bath for him to soak in, and finds a large tshirt and tracksuit pants for him to put on. Over the next few days Zeke slowly tell her his story. After having reoccurring dreams the Marston sheriff Canon comes to make sure Maggie is safe as prisoner had escaped from the local prison. When he comes in to check there is not a sign that Zeke had been, he had disappeared without a trace. Maggie and Canon become friendly and she gradually tells him about finding Zeke at her door during the snowstorm. Canon tells Zeke’s story. Over the next several years she continues to lease the cabin for short periods of time and research Zeke’s story with the help from Canon, the local newspaper editor, his school teacher, the librarian and the older residents who knew Zeke while he was growing up and what had happened. She approaches Ollie, Zeke’s father and owner of the cabin she is staying in for permission to continue with her research and write Zeke’s story. Ollie was thrilled and said he knew that was what she was doing. I can thoroughly recommend Alone in a Cabin. The story drew me in and I eagerly turned the pages to continue to find out Zeke’s story and the continuing growth of Canon and Maggie’s friendship as Canon introduces her to the township and opens up about his story. I received this book as an ARC and have written this review voluntarily

Aspiring author Maggie Raines finds more than an engrossing story when she discovers a
half-frozen man on the porch of the writing retreat she has rented in rural Tennessee. I’m a
writer; we live in a cabin in the woods; I was really glad I was not reading this alone at night.

Alone in a Cabin is full of suspense, mystery and romance as well as the practical realities of
the writing life. Smith calls this a “hub story” for a prospective series, and she introduces
lots of characters that we are dying to find out more about, including four generations of
handsome sheriff. The whole town of Marston is full of potential stories, as is any town if
you stop to think about it. Smith’s characters pulled at my heartstrings as they struggled
with past choices, relationships, and the challenges that life throws at them.

Although this is written from a largely Christian point of view, the book is not preachy or in
your face. It gets a bit more sexually explicit in places than most Christian fiction without any actual
sex. I loved the quotes Smith put at the beginning of each chapter—some about writing,
some from Scripture, some just thoughts. I was delighted to find she expands on them at
the end. I will definitely come back for more of this author.

After reading Leanne W. Smith’s enthralling historical novels, I was so excited to receive a pre-released copy of her newest work, Alone In A Cabin. Just like her previous books, Alone in a Cabin is set in and around fictional Marston County, Tennessee.

On the eve of Maggie Raines’ 50th birthday, her husband makes an announcement that will change her life as she knows it. While rediscovering her identity in a life without her unfaithful husband, Maggie finds love and mystery inside the walls of her cabin escape. She’s hoping the old log walls of the cabin will inspire a story and inspire a story they certainly do! You will be intrigued and quickly drawn into the story, want to befriend Maggie, believe Zeke, and see the rugged sheriff smile.

Smith is a brilliant storyteller, and I found great difficulty in setting the novel down each night. I loved it so much, I even pre-ordered copies for my mom and several friends- this is definitely a must-read this year! If you are looking for a quick read with a little bit of mystery, a little bit of love, a little bit of hope, Alone in a Cabin is the book for you. Already looking forward to reading more from Marston County and from Leanne Smith!

I’ve been blessed to receive an ARC of each of Leanne Smith’s previous books, and I was so excited to have the honor of receiving an ARC of Alone in a Cabin. This book did not disappoint! As opposed to her first two historical novels, Leaving Independence, and A Contradiction to His Pride, this book is set in the present and the entire story takes place in and around Marston County, TN. Marston is the fictional county where Abigail Baldwin, the heroine in Leaving Independence, lived before traveling out west. Marston County has its stories to tell, and Smith does not disappoint in bringing this story to life. If you’re looking for a summer read to keep you intrigued from the first page to the last, then I highly recommend this book. You won’t want to put it down until you’ve read it cover to cover - the epilogue might have been my favorite part of the book.

I did receive an ARC of this book; however, I loved this book so much that I have pre-ordered copies of the book for my mother and sister. I can’t wait for them to read it! This book will likely be my go-to gift this next year for all of my friends and family who love fiction novels.

Leanne has shown her versatility as an author by branching out from historical fiction to modern day in her newest book, Alone in a Cabin. I am a fan of Leeanne's previous books, Leaving Independence and a Contradiction to His Pride and this book did not disappoint. Alone in a Cabin takes place mostly in fictional Marston County which is a setting in her two previous books. I love the Marston County connection from past to present day. The main character in Alone in a Cabin, Maggie, is a person to whom you are instantly drawn. She isn't perfect and is very relatable. The story took a big twist that I never saw coming. This book was surprising, suspenseful and addictive. I couldn't put it down. I have purchased copies of Leeanne's two previous books for family and friends and plan to do the same with Alone in a Cabin. I am already eagerly awaiting Leeanne's next book.

I received an ARC for the purpose of providing an objective review.

I ordered Alone in a Cabin on its release date and began reading it intentionally, slowly, wanting to savor the characters, the landscape, the plot twists (and they are everywhere!). Leanne has woven a compelling Tennessee storyline that encompasses mystery, romance, crime thriller, and a touch of the supernatural into a book about writing. Maggie rebounds from a cruel mid-life crisis into her lifelong dream of becoming a writer, and along the way uncovers secrets hidden deep within the backwoods of Tennessee.
Leanne elevates character development to an art form. You’ll know what makes her characters tick, their idiosyncrasies, their motivations. She has wrapped elements of superb storytelling into an engaging love story with a backdrop of mystery and intrigue. I highly recommend “Alone in a Cabin” that debuted #1 in Amazon’s Best New Releases, week of 7/6/2021.

I was hooked from the very beginning!

Leanne Smith’s new book is very different from her previous historical fiction stories, but I loved it just as much. This was a perfect summer read, although it would also be great in winter or any other time! Smith is such a great storyteller, and I appreciated the sneak peek into the writing process throughout this story.

With such interesting characters and beautiful scenery, I can’t help but want to visit Marston County… it is just too bad that it is a fictional location! I look forward to reading more of Leanne Smith's stories from Marston!

I received an early copy of Alone in a Cabin in exchange for an honest review, and I enjoyed it so much that I pre-ordered myself a hardcopy!

I received an ARC for the purpose of providing an objective review on Leanne Smith’s “Alone in a Cabin. The review is based on a pre-release copy which I received of this book, and I am offering an unbiased review.

After enjoying “Leaving Independence” and ‘A Contradiction of His Pride’, I did not think Leanne Smith could author another book as interesting as these two, but I was wrong. In Alone in a Cabin, I was fascinated how she brought a fantasy occurrence that seemed real to her character in the Cabin, to a dream miles away of a friend, featuring what was happening in the Cabin. I found I was unable to put the book down until I finished it and even though I received an ARC book, I have enjoyed it so much I want one in my library.

Not quite 5 stars, but almost.

Maggie has had her life turned upside down. Children grown, making lives for themselves. Husband, a doctor, busy with work… busy with his receptionist as well. Maggie moved out, dividing their material things into his and hers with quick efficiency. Then is left wondering ’what now?’ A cabin in the woods seems like the perfect setting for her to begin the next part of her life. Time to ponder, to delve into the story she hopes to write, to concentrate on herself for the first time in years. But then she finds that she isn’t alone.

The story did not go the way I expected, but no complaints here. Well worth the read. A bit of suspense, a drop of romance, eccentric townsfolk and a ghost. What could be better?

I was given an advanced copy for an honest review and and this book had me hooked from the beginning. I read almost half the book in one night. I was taken quite by surprise when it took a turn I never expected. I loved the new modern setting in contrast to Leanne Smith’s past historical fiction novels. The characters in Alone in a Cabin stayed in my mind long after I finished the book, and I hope there are more stories coming from this small town. This was such a feel good story that offered hope and inspiration. Well Done!!

Wow! I have it a 4?? I really enjoyed and could barely put it down.
I hate putting spoilers in but am about to do some.
Recently divorced, Maggie feels the urge to try writing, something she was interested in but being a wife it was successful doctor and raising children it had been put on the back burner. She decides to spend a few days away in a isolated cabin (I so wish that cabin was around and I could rent it) to see if she can or should do this.
And then things really get interesting! Noises in the night, unexpected visitor, new friendships and lots of writing. (I loved the chapter headings). I guess I have to say I love it I gave it a four! I'm going to look for another one of her books I do not want too much romance in it. This one she handled well.

This book was very good, and I had a hard time putting it down. The twists and turns of the plot kept me intrigued as I wanted to figure out what was going to happen next with Maggie, Zeke, and Canon. I thought the author did a good job keeping the story line consistent and not cliche. I only wish that there was more detail on what was necessary next for Maggie and the rest of the characters. I also wish there were more books in this series that showcase Maggie’s books about the county- which she claimed was going to be her lineup for her next novel(s).

This book was a perfect read for my beach vacation! I couldn't put it down. Leanne Smith's characterization shines through in this book as each person came to life for me the moment I was introduced to them. This book offers a bit of everything...romance, mystery, but most importantly healing. I'm looking forward to reading this book again.

While I received an ARC of this book, I can't wait to purchase a copy for myself and for friends and family.

It was a great novel.

I really enjoyed the plot twists and the unexpected supernatural tones. Was a total shocker for me to realize it was a ghost!

I really enjoyed the main characters, although I thought Maggie could be a little bit of a Mary Sue.

I wonder if Tales from Marston County will be a real thing for this author? I would love to read more about that charming little town replete with tragic love stories.

I recommend this novel for sure.

Alone In A Cabin

Enjoyed this story though it was strange. Zeke, Maggie, and Canon's, stories were very good a page turner for sure. Don't know if anyone has ever been visited by a ghost or spirit, I suppose anythings possible. And I've know a few folks to have strange reoccurring dreams. This was one of those kinda stories, and a good one it was.

I wish there were half stars. This book was unique. Not perfect but really close to a five star novel and the characters were so alive. The novel flowed. I loved the town. I wanted to stay in that cabin and venture into the middle of,the town. I wanted to talk to adopt in the library. I loved the unique story. I want to read her other books now as well.
