I am literally forcing myself to only read a chapter a day because I want it to last as long as possible!!! I read every book that comes out by Marissa Miller! Mark my words, she is the next J.K. Rowling! Her books are entertaining, well written, and have the ability to take you away from your daily life to a world she has created just for you. For Disney fans, this is a must read! I loved When Wicked Runs: West and the sequel was even better! The follow-up includes new characters, an exciting new landscape, and plots and twists you’ll never see coming. This book really has a lot more action and thrilling moments than the first (if possible!) You really see the characters reach turning points and discoveries.

I would recommend this for anyone who love retellings that take on a life of their own. Pick up this series if you’re ready to be absorbed into a fascinating world.

I was dying to see what would happen with Alice and Dorothy in this series. It was interesting to watch misunderstandings unfold and the characters learn that right and wrong might not be as simple or as clear as they expect or want. I also appreciated learning how Neverland, Oz, and Wonderland interacted and then became separate entities.

When Wicked Runs: East is a fantastic follow-up to When Wicked Runs: West. Picking up where the previous book ended, East is a fast-paced, adventurous retelling of three classic tales. I loved gaining more insight and backstory to my favorite characters from the first book and meeting new characters along the way. Leaving Wonderland, East introduces the land east of the signpost, Oz, and the mysterious Wizard who rules the land. I highly recommend checking out this series if you're a fan of classic fairytales (or even if you aren't), you won't be disappointed!

Historically, I am not a fan of Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, OR the Wizard of Oz. Despite my past preferences for more straightforward/less allegorical stories, I felt compelled to give this series a shot. And honestly, I’m glad I did!

When Wicked Runs: East follows Miller’s first book of the series, When Wicked Runs: West. It is easy to pick up where the first book leaves off.

A modern mash-up on three classic tales, this series shows well-known characters Dorothy, Alice, and Peter in a new light. They are likable (though somewhat complicated) figures, who deal with messy magic, wicked witches, stupid slippers, and crazy creatures in Oz and Wonderland.

I enjoyed the rotating narration and the vivid, delightful imagination present in When Wicked Runs: East. I found this book descriptive, wildly creative, and just plain fun.

I look forward to the next installment in this series.

I waited on the edge of my seat for this sequel and Miller did not let me down! She manages to weave the familiarity of these beloved storybook characters with the developmental depth and psychological complexity of her own making seamlessly. Read this book and go on an adventure that you just can't get enough of!
