A group of friends find an old game that exposes the truths they’ve been hiding from each other. A small town murder has world-changing implications. A girl wakes in the hospital to find a strange man sitting next to her bed.
Be thankful you aren’t the characters in this collection of 20 terrifying, twisted, and thought-provoking tales from K.G. Lewis. In the places they live, even something as simple as Writer’s Block can be deadly.
This was a really solid collection of stories. I don't think there was a single story in here that a disliked...which says a lot given how many stories are in here and it's just the nature of most collections to have at least a few stories that just don't work for someone. But I really enjoyed the originality of the stories, the writing, and the length of these stories (all but the last one and one in the middle can be read in 10-15 minutes). I really enjoyed this and would recommend if you're looking for some strange.
My favorite stories in the collection were probably: The Little Mermaid, Writers Block, and Second Chances. I don't think any of these will stay with me the way some stories do...I don't think I will find myself thinking about them months down the road...but I would read this collection again.
I stole the idea to read this book from someone I follow. I don't often read short stories but as I'm trying to write some of my own at the moment, it helps to do some research. The person I follow said they enjoyed every single story, some were actually pretty creepy (I'd say I've been more scared by one short story in here, than any other horror book) and though every single story entertained me, some I was left saying WTF.
For example, in one story when a grandson doesn't put a token down the toilet after he's been for a tom-tit, a poo monster comes after him, chasing him through the sewerage system until he finds his prey.
But it did warn me in the sub-title, it does say "strange stories by K.G. Lewis." And because of the strangeness, it was unpredictable and the pace was excellent. I found myself excited to open the book at night and delve in. A memorable book for sure, I'm not sure I'd want to keep it, if I hadn't loaned it from the library, but I would recommend it to some of my stranger friends. I'm just kidding, I don't have any friends.
I have always liked short stories and this one didn't disappoint at all. They were weird, talented writing and very fun to read. When i was looking for a book to read on Kindle thins one kept coming up. So I had to read it. Like all my reviews I do not give spoilers. But would love to mention this one was weird and loved it. 5 stars out of 5
I grabbed this collection to celebrate The Week of Weird. Finally, days after the readathon ended, I turned the last page.
This book is full of weird, creepy, and fascinating stories. A few of my favorites were 🧠 Writer’s Block 🪞 Reverse Psychology 🪳Proboscis
This collection includes as many horror and sci-fi sub-genres as your dark little heart could desire. Some were deep and cut through the heart while others showed up to have a good ol’ time. Excellent balance and a fantastic, albeit strange reading experience.
