Before you is a tome of twisted tales that will tug on your heartstrings… while ripping them to shreds!
Play a game where you bet your life on an unimaginable fortune. Visit a neighborhood that is suspiciously unwelcoming of outsiders. Watch as terrifying unwanted visitors stalk through apartment buildings and family homes.
Blending the fantastic with the frantic and the macabre with the mundane, Bikram Mann, India’s foremost NoSleep author, builds amazing worlds then fills them with nightmares.
Average: 3.5. Wanna round it up to four bc I really did enjoy this. And the five star stories were reaaaallly good. A nice breezy horror collection if you’re just dipping ur toes into the genre. Need smth light and spooky to tingle the spine. Loved loved the very casual but good representation we got. Absolutely was surprised and delighted.

Manpig: eh, alright, definitely A story. 2.5/5
November 1, 1984: amazing. Not really a horror story in the supernatural sense, more like the horror of human intolerance and political violence. 5/5
The Mime: honestly was the scariest one? Prlly bc I actually read it at night instead of broad daylight. 4/5
Homeowner's Association: BEST. MY FAVOURITE STORY OF THE BUNCH. AGAIN, NOT LIKE SUPERNATURAL HORROR BUT MORE LIKE THE STEPFORD RACISTS. 5/5
Nighttime Visitor: kind of run of the mill no sleep. 3/5
Re-Grow: gross. Gave me middle age goosebumps vibes. 3.5/5
My Girlfriend's OnlyFans: I didn’t like this one until the reveal. More like a mid tier no sleep. 3/5
Unclean Spirits by Birkram Mann 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This book contains a collection of 14 very entertaining short horror stories! Each one is unique and different and all have a nice creepiness factor to them! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed these stories!! They are exciting and fast paced.
A few standouts for me are:
-Homeowners Association -Nighttime Visitor -Homecoming -The Inheritance Game -Dinner Date -Worlds Highest Skydive
I listened to the audio version and the narrator was excellent also! *This book is out now, so grab a copy!*
Bikram Mann has a way with words that I've admired for a long while. This collection highlights that talent, with the stories worming their way under your skin, and tunneling into your psyche. I would recommend it for lovers of eerie horror.
An excelente anthology of horror stories. Bikram is an amazing storyteller, weaving tales that walk between various genres: here you will find ghosts, monsters, body horror, cosmic horror and monstrous human beings. I specially liked the stories set in India.
My favorite stories were:
– November 1, 1984: a gripping tale about a family trying to escape the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. – The Mime: a man explains why he's so afraid of mimes. – Homeowner's Association: a man must protect his home and his family against terrifying home invaders. – Re-Grow: a man tries a new treatment for baldness. – The Inheritance Game: a nightmarish reading of a will. – Stolen Reflection: what would you do if you were terrified of your own reflection? – The Wandering Wraith of Wadgaon: a lonely little girl makes a new friend. – Kathputli: horror in a haunted dorm room.

The stories were very entertaining and freaky in their own ways, but I think the title is a bit misleading. I think there are something like 2 actual ghost stories. Maybe a couple other paranormal stories, but the majority of this book is just creepy/sad stories about shitty people. Which we all know is technically the scariest shit.. just not what I was in the mood for. Don't get me wrong, the writing was great and I can't wait to read more. I was just thought that it was going to be more of a supernatural scary anthology of stories. Would still recommend.
it was fine. nothing special about any of it. i wish i could give it a zero. these are reddit stories so am i surprised? bad character developments. weak plots. terrible ‘plot twists’ genuinely disliked this book. except for manpig. i liked that story. and my girlfriends’ onlyfans <3
Solid collection of Reddit spooky stories with a variety—some paranormal, some surreal, some framing biological horrors. A couple real stand outs, mostly middling-good fare, and a couple stinkers in the batch. All told in first person and a little clumsy, but enjoyable.
I really love this book. All the stories are very good an well written. My favorite story was the mime one for how crazy and scary it was. Hope to read more from this author Bikram Mann.
Every story left me with my mouth opened. The stories were all written well and kept me glued to the words wanting to know how it was going to end. These stories are nightmare fuel in the sense that they are thought provoking and creepy at how realistic they are.
I bought this because a youtuber recommended it - and while I have bought some incredibly shitty books on that basis, then in my kindle library it is bundled with some really good titles I read, so I decided to get it. And am I glad I did! never ever heard of the author before, but this is a quality collection of short horror stories, I can't even recall there was a boring story in there - it was pretty consistent interesting. So if you like me read a little too many nosleep stories, do yourself a favor and get this book.
Its soo very hard to even TRY n describe all the tumultuous emotions these amazing stories put me through.. And I would do it all over again! Thank you!
(This was a 3.5, so I decided to round it up to four due to how much I enjoyed the overall reading experience.)
I picked up this book knowing that I’d like it because I’d already heard a few of Mann’s stories via the Are You Scared? YouTube series hosted by Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara (which I also 100% recommend). However, I was a little worried that maybe I wouldn’t enjoy this collection as much without Ryan’s narration and his interactions with Shane. Thankfully, I was wrong, Mann’s exceptionally talented at building atmosphere and a master of pace, which made me fly through this book. Having said that, I found some of the stories featured to be a tad underwhelming, especially compared to the stronger pieces in the collection.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy Creepypastas, such as myself, in fact, you might even already have come across one of Mann’s stories before. He is “India’s foremost NoSleep author” according to this book’s synopsis on Goodreads. The SubReddit r/NoSleep is a community on Reddit where users post disturbing stories that can be either experienced or imagined, the latter being more known as Creepypastas. As is the norm with this sub-genre, all of the stories in this collection are written in the first person, which is perfect for me, but it might not be for everybody.
The two strongest stories are the Homeowner’s Association and Inheritance Games. The first one is about a family of immigrants that moves to a gated community where there are terrible consequences for those who do not follow the HOA rules. However, the neighborhood is not what it seems, everyone has a secret and, as things escalate, the narrator must decide what he’s willing to do in order to protect the ones he loves. It’s remarkable how Mann wrote a story that is not only terrifying but also a brilliant commentary on the United State’s concept of the suburban utopia which is the “American Dream.” The Inheritance Games is a mix of Knives Out (2019 movie) and The Hunger Games (2008 book series), family members are pitted against one another in a deadly game to decide who gets the patriarch's hefty inheritance. This story tackles how money can change people and, once again, how far someone can go in order to defend the people they love. Both of those stories are packed with action and violence (please check their specific trigger warnings at the bottom of the review), the tension building as they progressed so that when the final “showdowns” happen, the payoff is astronomical.
I did find the second half of the collection to be weaker (Stolen Reflection, The Wandering Wraith of Wadgaon, Dinner Date, Kathputli, and World’s Highest Skydive), however, none of these stories were bad, they just fell short next to the tales in the first half. Stolen Reflection and The Wandering Wraith of Wadgaon were too mellow for me, there is nearly no action in either of them and their focus wasn’t to scare the reader. Out of all the stories, they were the only ones that least reassembled Creepypastas, which is absolutely fine, but not what I was looking for. As for Dinner Date and Kathputli, they were entertaining, but even though they weren’t lengthy, I believe I’d have enjoyed those stories more if they had been shorter. Finally, my dislike for World’s Highest Skydive is solely based on the fact that it’s way too Lovecraftian for me, I just can’t get into cosmic horror no matter how well-written the story may be.
