Prey: The Rabbit Mark Fenton, assistant to the mayor, never regretted opening his mouth more than he did when he insulted Madam Winters’ establishment, the Courtesan Hotel. Now he’s being sold off for a night in the summer auction. It’s small comfort that part of the proceeds benefit charity. The man who buys Mark’s time, Camden, is wild and unruly. He’s not Mark’s type, from his giant body to his rough nature, but the more time Mark spends with Camden, the more he finds himself having fun.
Predator: The Wolf Camden Wolf knows what he likes—redheads who want to be pursued—and Mark appears to be exactly that. When Madam Winters tells Camden about the feisty man she has ready for the auction block, he can’t resist putting a claim on Mark. Chasing him has Camden’s inner primal nature excited, and he can’t get enough of Mark. But as much as they are having fun, Mark is skittish.
Attack and Capture Mark fits into Camden’s life like a missing puzzle piece, and Camden’s daughters and his best friend/ex-wife love Mark. But convincing him they can have a future is difficult, especially when all Mark wants to do is run away in fear. Luckily Camden is the kind of man who loves a challenge, and he has plans to make Mark his in every single way.

Well... this will be another edition of #GifReview
#BraceYourselves because this will a hot one.....
1. What I loved: The Characters: Camden is blue collar through and through which I loved. No billionaires here! He's a foreman in construction, works long and hard, is a hardcore family man too. He was just so real and genuine and comfortable with his kink preferences and I loved him instantly. #BigBadWolf
Mark works for the mayor and was put in an uncomfortable position in the beginning. He isn't as comfortable with his preferences, which fit Camden's to a T, and keep running away and fighting...both physically and emotionally. Good thing Cam likes that. #LittleRabbit
2. The kink... This is the first time I've read Primal play- I've only read glimpses of it in Cara Dee's The Games Series- and well... I LOVED IT. Man it was HAWT... and I mean SMOKING HAWT. Camden is a wolf-no not a shifter- who like to stalk ad catch his prey. and then he gets to reassert his dominance with fucking his prey aka Mark into submission and breeding his a$$ until he is nice and full. Yuppp...I ain't mincing no words. This is legit one of the hottest books I've ever read. This kink hit all of my buttons, and some buttons that I didn't know I had. #PantiesWentPoof
3. The sweetness: Even with how primal and hardcore the sex is, there is also sweetness between Cam and Mark. there's intimacy and aftercare and cuddling and family time with Cam's daughters.
4. The HEA: Loved how this ended, although it was only a month later. Also Hot. Did I mention hot?
Niggles: - The plot needed some tightening up and tweaking in some places to keep it consistent. - It dragged for a bit towards the middle.
“I clicked my claws against the wall and heard his sharp intake of breath. “Little rabbit, where are you? Come and play.”
And there you have it folks—the beginning of a wild, wild ride into the bowels of primal play. This was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. My reactions kept ranging from what the f*ck! To is this really a thing? People actually get off of this? To damn, that’s kind of hot! To uh that’s just not sexy. Anyway, YMMV.
TW: non-consent, dubious consent, kidnapping
The Stars of Our Show Mark Fenson is an assistant to the mayor at city hall. He’s in his early twenties, earnest, and a workaholic. Mark gets on the wrong side of Madame Winters, owner of a high-end brothel, when he makes remarks about her “professionals”. She kidnaps him and auctions him for the night to teach him a lesson. Camden Wolf is a construction foreman and regular working-class guy. He’s divorced and has a great relationship with his ex-wife and two young daughters. Camden wins Mark for the night not knowing that Mark was forced to enter the auction against his will. He assumes that Mark’s fierce struggle as he chases him is part of the game and their first sexual encounter is marked by dubious consent.
So Let Me Tell You What I Liked The novelty of primal play. It was lurid and held my attention throughout a thin plot. So, primal play and what goes down. The alpha/predator chases his prey, the prey tries to evade him and struggles like hell. “Primal is…more primal.”…It’s about letting go of your inhibitions and giving in to basic instincts. I’m the Alpha and you’re my prey. I want to mate you, fuck myself into you without feeling like I need to control myself. I want to breed you, fill you up, and put my marks on you.”
Nah. This Totally Didn’t Work for Me • Talk about a flimsy excuse for Mark’s kidnapping. So, we’re to buy that Madame Winters is so thin-skinned that she decides to kidnap a mayor’s aide and auction him because of hurt feelings? Hard pass.
• Insta-smut. Smut is great. All the smut. But at some point, the MCs have to build a credible emotional connection to leaven it. Things seemed to go from smut to “hey, meet the family” and then “little rabbit moves in”.
• That ish got weird real fast. The whole sniffing, snuffling, marking schtick. Breeding and mating. I don’t know about you, but “breeding” as dirty talk does not turn me on…at all! I felt like a voyeur watching bears mate.
• The side plot of Camden’s cutesy family with an ex-wife who’s his best friend and adorable kids. It felt like a deliberate ploy to force an emotional connection between the MCs and manipulate us into cooing at their soon-to-be instant family.
• Sold for the Night really shouldn’t be marketed as a stand-alone. There was a lot of backstory about Mark’s workplace and his relationships at work, which are a major part of the plot.
Thanks for returning to New Gothenburg for another book! Sold for the Night is a lot of fun, so if you’re here looking to see what special kinks might be in the book, I’m going to put them under a spoiler bar, just in case anyone doesn’t want to see. There is also one potential trigger in this book as well.
Writing Mark and Cam was easy because not only were we writing this ridiculously hot kink, but it was interesting to see what made Mark tick and figure out who he was, and why he was so fucking mad about Ross Midberry getting caught with his pants down at city hall. All around, I think this is probably the book I’ve had the most fun writing since we did Staking His Claim, which was also deeply character driven.
Last but not least, to celebrate summer 2021, Meg and I had the insane and wonderful idea to write two books that start on the same night at the same event and in the same scene, so Sold for the Night and The Madam’s Baby Boy actually both start at the Courtesan Hotel’s summer auction! The Madam’s Baby Boy follows Darcy Winters, Madam Winters’ son, as he has an interesting evening that leads to much more than he bargained for. The two books will be released on the same day, so you can read both books and see the night of the summer auction from multiple perspectives.
Thanks so much for reading in New Gothenburg, and I hope you have a lot of fun with this book!

I’m not familiar with primal play and I liked first 3 books in series so I was interested. Something different, right? Why the low rating? Because I just finished this book and feel sick to my stomach. At the beginning, Mark is manipulated and “sold” against his will into a situation that led to a nonconsenual act…and it could have been worse. He has panic attacks around this. Camden does rectify his part as he was an unknowing pawn… so he gives a safe word and gains consent. He does take the safe word seriously and their relationship grows. So yay, Mark found his mate but lives with panic attacks by how it started… and the woman that trafficked Mark into being prey to a rape goes free. Everyone else laughs about it and Camden says Madam is a good person. I needed vindication…some remorse or even an outcry that it was wrong/period… fully wrong. I could see this at least a 4 star read with some action in defense of Mark. Madam, the abductor and Mark’s seller donates proceeds to a human trafficking charity… such hypocrisy! If she recognized trafficking as wrong how could she do this to another person—to teach him a lesson? And on another note… while no money officially changed hands with Camden buying Mark for a night… they were brought together by a transaction in which Mark was not a willing participant. The freebie means nothing. I certainly don’t read for moral or political preaching but this one left a bad taste.
Primal Play is a side of BDSM that I know very little about, and it’s definitely intriguing. Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory explore this tantalizing kink in Sold for the Night.
This is only my second book centered around the auctions at the Courtesan Hotel, but I’m already hoping for a whole lot more of Madam Winters’ story. (One in which she gets her well deserved comeuppance!) This unprincipled cupid, tricking people into these situations, and justifying her actions as “in the name of love”, this woman’s got quite a nerve.
Told from both sides, we get Mark’s insights as a novice (and initially unwilling) participant. Getting way more than he’d planned for, Mark is quickly won over by his response to the eroticism of Primal Play. But it’s the sweet, affectionate side of Cam which really brings this relationship to life.
Cam is a straight shooter, and I admired his behavior throughout the entire story. He’s misled into thinking Mark wants what he’s offering, and the way the authors explore this whole aspect of the storyline is beautifully done.
Mark ends up finding love, but he also discovers an inner strength he never knew he possessed. Standing up for himself. Doing his best to hold the Madam accountable for her actions. And securing a resolution that he and Cam can live with..., my hat’s off to Mark!
Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory always write crazy hot erotica. Raw and edgy, I loved the pure and honest interactions between Mark and Cam. It starts out playful, but the result is an enviable intimacy. I can definitely see the appeal of Primal Play.
an audiobook copy of Sold for the Night was generously provided by the author for the purpose of my honest review
From previous books in the series, we know Mark as the high strung PA of the Mayor(first Midberry, then Vane) and we also know that he was quite judgemental about sex work. Knowing this, he picked the wrong place and time to talk about to share his views. At the infamous Courtesan. Right in front of Madam Winters. The man clearly had a death wish. Lol
Then came Camden right on time when the Madam decided to exact her revenge on Mark.
You know what? I liked Camden although his insta-"you are mine" thrown about after the first very tumultuous play time was quite unrealistic to me. Especially given how skittish Mark was.Playing without a safety discussions, well...isn't safe.
Additionally, according to all the literature on BDSM safety I've inadvertently read over the years, I believe there needed to have been explicit discussions around the kinks before Cam did the things he did to Mark.
Really, if that had been done right at the beginning and not at 39%, I think the first several scenes would've gone smoother and not triggered the apology(although I'm glad Cam eventually acknowledged that).
All in all, this was much like the previous books: well written, it introduced a new(at least to me) kink, had copious amounts of sex scenes and had a light sprinkling of "feels" to keep the reader from complaining about "too much sex". It was a good addition to the series.

At the Courtesan Hotel summer auction Camden’s eye falls on Mark Fenton, Madam Winters tells him Mark will be his. When Camden got to him Mark runs away. Ha! Camden is a predator and loves to hunt.
Omg, I loved the predatory possessiveness, the urge to claim, to mark, to take. Mark didn’t make a chance against Camden. Absolutely deliciously written story, hot af, fun, playful, entertaining, engaging, SEXY. Camden was the beast who sniffed, lapped, bit, and fucked, Mark was the prey and loved it. Dang, I adored this story.
I really enjoy this series, all book has different and unique kinks. I was really looking forward to this, because of the primal play and the hunting/mating scenes. If you want to read mating scenes and biting, hunting, you know that you'll find those in shifter books. But not this time! There is no paranormal in this book, just the pure primal instinct.
I loved that the starting scene was exactly that and I haven't had to wait chapters to see the animal in Camden. The book strength is obviously the kink and I loved those chapters/scenes. I thought there will be only a few, but gladly it has many primal play in it. Oh gosh, the mating, hunting and biting, those were so so HOT!
I really enjoyed reading this story, it's hot as hell.
I’ve read and enjoyed noncon before, but I draw a hard line at justifying rape. I really should have stopped earlier. All of the smirking after Mark got raped rubbed me so wrong.
““Mark needed to realize what it was like to be one of us. I am not a fool, and if it’d been truly against his best interests, I wouldn’t have done it.”
OOOH BOY! I was WAITING for a book like this. When Brightly and Gregory do kinky, they do KINKY and I cannot get enough of it. Hands down my favourite kink books - there are very few, in my opinion, as consistently well done as the ones written by this dynamic duo.
Mark is a character from the Town Hall series that's been a cameo in the first few books but, as with most of these author's characters, was fleshed out enough to create intrique in the reader. A little frantic and uptight, he's just the type of character you want to see be wrecked, ruined and unravelled. Meanwhile Camden is our happy family man with a dark side to him. I'll be honest, I don't recall much of Camden's characterisation because all that sticks in my brain is how fucking fantastic he was in the sex scenes.
And the sex scenes are EXPLOSIVE. This is just the right kind of wrong that I adore. The non-con/dub-con at the beginning was handled beautifully. The scene was dark, gritty and deliciously sexy while also acknowledging it's wrongness and not dancing around the issue of consent. My only complaint here was that I didn't really like the redemption of Madame Winters (I think this is leading into future books which is why she's being explored as a morally grey character, not inherently good or bad) but personally, I wished they'd taken that in a different direction.
The follow up sex scenes are just as brilliant - especially one where Camden introduces Mark to his special room. Light deprevation, claws, rough sex: the primal kink was something I never knew I needed and I lapped up every word.
I really wish I hadn't sped through this book and it's companion so quickly. Books like these are few and far between.

Wow...each book in the City Hall series gave me an introduction in different kinds of kink and this one dealing with primal play was very interesting to read. I must say that it was kind of disturbing how Camden and Mark met at the beginning of the auction but once the misunderstanding was cleared up some, I felt a little better about the entire situation. The Mark I knew in the past books was a very sensitive, loyal and caring person...so meeting him in his own book...he still got those same characteristics but with more sass and whole lot of stubbornness. His interaction with Camden was pure entertainment. Camden got that alpha role down pact and he sees Mark as his mate/prey and will do anything to keep him. Their play time was intense and HOT and you see the two really click as a couple. I loved the kids, the ex wife...their family unit...it was so special and sweet. All in all i enjoyed this intense and sweet romance and I think others will too.
Okay Primal Play was completely new to me and I wondered how I would get on with it. The description had me hooked though. Wow! Not going to lie, this book is possibly the hottest thing I've read in a while. “If sex isn’t like wrestling, you’re doing it wrong.” It starts off with a little dub-con/non-con (I'm not sure where I sit with that particular scene) and they have a lot (a whole lot) of rough animalistic sexy times (everywhere). There is a plot! I swear lol. Camden brings out something in Mark that his friends haven't seen and they share a great connection. They even date which was super cute! I adored the addition of the ex-wife (no baby mama drama) and kids. They do get serious fast but I think the intensity of how they start suits that
Really enjoyed this and a new to me kink which was hot AF.
Liked Mark, Cam, his ex and kids. And Wyatt! I hope he gets his own story.
This was actually my favourite of the series but I've deducted 2 stars for Madam Winters alone because I'm really angry how this was portrayed. What she did to Mark was not cool and her reasons don't even make sense. And the fact that no one other than Cam seemed to think what she did was wrong pissed me off.
Finally! We get Mark’s book! An intriguing side character, appearing in all three prior books, Mark has just been this uptight, overly organized guy who needed some attention and some unwinding.
And boy did he get it. After being entered in the summer auction at the Courtesan because of his overly judgmental attitude, Mark is purchased for a night by someone who Madam Winters encourages to bid on him. They don’t know each other, but Mark physically meets all of Camden’s desires and Madam Winters hinted Mark could satisfy all his other needs as well.
Enter the kink – Primal! The authors tackled this kink like the bosses they are. Animalistic, physical, limited rules, the scenes were awesome. And that savagery and chaos is what Mark needed to find his balance.
With a couple of small hurdles, the men work through the unusual way they were introduced, the polar opposite difference in their personalities, and find a great HEA.
The only criticism is there was so much focus on the kink, we lost sight of the characters somewhat. I don’t know much more about Mark now than I did when he was a side character. Definite missed opportunity for us to learn so much more about Mark and Camden. Regardless, the book was entertaining, the kink was awesome, and it closed out the series well.
Sold for the Night is a kinky story of Camden, alpha male, winning Mark for the night at an auction. What takes place is a dub con but hot scene that leads to the two spending more time together. This is all confusing to Mark as he's never been with someone like Camden who is in to primal kink, following an alpha urge to hunt and catch his prey/mate, loving the thrill of the chase. This is different to anything I've read before having not heard of primal kink. I'm not really one for dub con but the characters and the story play out a connection that builds up an innate trust between them though Mark is very much scared of the possibility of more, always with one foot out the door, nit surprising given how things start. Mark's character has the chance to develop, experiencing this whole new side of something and having a man want him so completely. Camden revels in the chance to be his true self with someone and Mark fits perfectly, and not just with that but also connects with Cam's two daughters and ex wife who also happens to be his best friend. It's a good story which has a great balance of heat, care, emotion and light moments to release the tension. The young girls are especially helpful with that.
Wow! This book packed quite the intense punch! Camden and Mark started off rather roughly, but once they cleared things between them, what they found together was unexpected and wholly wonderful.
No doubt, these authors are skilled at writing erotic and intense scenes, while also building intimacy and emotional charged connections. What they wrote for Camden and Mark was original and breathtaking, and I enjoyed seeing the care, trust, sensuality and love these two men found with each other.
This was undoubtedly a very sexy story that left me panting for more.
This was a new kink for me, I had never heard of primal play before. Camden is just the person to keep Mark from running away and determined to keep him. I felt bad for them both in how their first encounter ended up being but they were able to resolve it, though I still have a problem with the Madam and how she handled the situation as she ended up hurting both of them. I loved seeing Mark adapt to the dynamic of primal play and how he ended up embracing it fully. He was the perfect compliment to Camden and fit perfectly into his family.
I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review
Although Camden and Mark started off rough, I really respect that Camden owned his part and didn’t brush it aside. So, yeah, this book is smoking hot and full of feels. It made me happy to see how Mark slotted in seamlessly with Camden’s family as he needs all their wonderful-ness, and I really loved how he not only accepted all sides of Camden but flourished with him. “….you were mine the moment I saw you.” Gah, the chemistry is on fire, but I especially adored how Camden took care of Mark, whether that took the form of gentle or wild, his needs came first. These two are made for each other and I super enjoyed their kink. All-around excellent read.
Sold For The Night by Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory is the fourth book in the City Hall series. This is the first book that I have read from it. Reading the prior books would definitely give a better grasp and understanding for the characters and some events mentioned in the previous books but this can be read as a standalone.
The summary for this book piqued my interest and I was glad I was given the chance to read it.
The book starts off with a chapter that has a dub-con/non-con content. It begins with Camden Wolf purchasing Mark Fenton in an auction. Things got pretty intense from the start and their first sexual encounter did not exactly have a very clear cut consent as Mark does not exactly have a choice though Cam had no idea about that part.
From there on, their relationship was developed rather well in the entirety of the story despite it having a very rough beginning. Though some of Mark's issues were addressed down the lane, some of it felt brushed aside. Considering the pain and trauma that the auction did to him, I am actually appalled that none of his friends apologized for what happened. Mark mentioned several times how hurt he was by their actions, so I was hoping for something there but nothing. It was such a relief that Cam was sorry for his participation on the event and actually apologized and tried to do Mark right.
Some of my favorite scenes were the soft, sweet and quiet moments shared between the two. It was great seeing the softer side of Cam with his rabbit. It was also a relief to see an ex being on friendly terms with her former husband and not painted as the villain in the love story between the main leads. The moments where Mark spends time with Cam's family - his daughters and ex are such a nice breather from all the steamy scenes as much as those were fun to read.
The book certainly have some interesting side characters including Madam Winters. She is such a fascinating character. She is a powerful woman and she knows it and uses that power in a way that benefits her and at the same time protects her employees. She clearly cares about them and those few people who she calls her friends but then her action does have collateral damage that hurts a lot of people as well.
Probably the weakest part of Sold For The Night is the plot. It needed some tweaking and tightening up in some parts to make it a bit more consistent. The pacing is a bit off as some parts felt a bit dragging.
Overall this was an enjoyable book with some really fascinating characters. It is a captivating and sexy read. I am giving it a 4.5 stars.
An ARC was provided to me by the author and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.
I received an ARC of this book, for an honest review.
I have not read any the other books in this series, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I think I got more than I bargained for in all the good ways!
I wasn’t familiar with primal play kink, but oh my gawd! So, freaking hot! I love shifter books, so it really shouldn’t have been a surprise to me, that I would love this. But bam! A new kink I didn’t know I needed in my life is here. I started this book, and I could not put it down. I read half of it in one night and finished it the next morning. Who needs to clean the house? No one.
Camden is a big construction foreman who is into primal play. He wants nothing more than to chase down and capture his little rabbit. It’s a fact that wolves chase their prey. Mark is a little uptight ginger, who has no idea primal kink is even a thing (glad it wasn’t just me). He also has a bit of temper (to go with his fiery hair), and his mouth got him into some trouble, and sold to the highest bidder for the night. Don’t tick off a Madam – words to live by. Madam Winters is a bit of a matchmaker, though I’m not sure how I feel about her yet. She’s a bad a$$ for sure, but not necessarily a nice woman. You want to stay on her good side.
Camden “buys” Mark for the night, not having a clue that he’s essentially being held against his will, but the chase is on. Mark isn’t aware that Cam didn’t pay for him, he was gift from the Madam, a friend of his mother’s.
The kink was high in this book, and the pages nearly burned my fingers. The things I loved most was the fact that as rough as Cam could get with his “mate”, he was just as soft and tender with him. He wanted to take care of his mate in all aspects of their lives, not just in the bedroom. Mark also pushed back and gave Cam sass, he was not a doormat, and I loved it.
I also loved the side characters of Cam’s ex-wife, and adorable, feisty little girls, and the way Mark stepped up to help with their care, when needed. I do feel that the auction and hotel could have been explained in a little more detail for someone who is starting the series not with book one.
This book has size gap, high kink and flame factor, good flow, and fun side characters. I am excited to read the next book (like right now!), and then go back and start this series from the beginning.
I was so excited to get Marks story. I've been anxiously waiting for it, especially after the end of Ross's book Cuffed. At the end of cuffed we see Mark upset and maybe a little drunk make some negative remarks about sex workers which Madam Winters overhears. She basically takes him hostage (which Ross and Vane seem to have no issue with) and forces him to take part in an auction. Sold for the night picks up right at the auction, so we get right into the action.
This book takes off with a bang, Cam who has a primal play kink wins Mark thinking Mark has consented to the auction. These guys are hot from the start. Cam is great, he feels terrible when he realizes what happened and Mark learns about himself and letting himself enjoy this new kink. Cam has an awesome family and everyone is super accepting. Mark has to get over some hang ups, but Cam loves the chase so its okay.
It was great seeing Mark find love and acceptance. It was also a little heartbreaking to see how he was so hurt by Ross and Vane and Jaxon's reactions to the forced auction.
So I read this and then went to read the reviews and wish I had read them frist. This book seems to make abduction, human trafficking, and rape okay. This author really messed up with this one, since the bad guy or woman just walks away with no repercussions. And oh my god Marks friends just laugh and think it's funny that he was kidnapped, sold and raped? And one of them is the mayor of this horrible town? No thank you. This was my first primal kink book and it said that the author has almost completely ruined it for me, I'm not sure I'll be able to read another. That so not okay.
