The international bestseller that sparked the F**k It revolution!
Like a magical modern mantra, saying F**k It can transform your life. It’s the perfect Western expression of the Eastern spiritual ideas of letting go, giving up and finding real freedom by realizing that things don’t matter so much (if at all).
It’s the very power of this profanity that makes it perfect for shaking us out of the stress and anxiety that dominate our meaning-full lives. It’s a reminder to stop listening to other people and start listening to ourselves, to take that leap and to unlock freedom and happiness by saying these two magic words to all the problems and chaos of life.
In this revised and updated edition, with brand-new chapters and insightful perspectives on the world we find ourselves in today, John C. Parkin shares humorous personal anecdotes, authentic advice and essential F**k It techniques – alongside exploring a whole host of worries and stresses to which we can to say… F**k It!
I appreciate Parkin's approach, but the middle section (various circumstances in which to say 'F**k It' seemed interminable. I can't decide whether 'feel free to flip through this book at random' means 'I have helpfully created a book that might be helpful at almost any random page you turn to' or 'I was too lazy to organize my book in a coherent form.' Perhaps this section would have worked better as an Appendix, or perhaps the whole thing would have worked better as a physical book, rather than an ebook.
This is perhaps one of the most depressing self help books I have read. It’s not particularly easy to follow and I was filled with an overwhelming sense that the author was quite sad.
If we could care less about things I am sure we would. What would be helpful is knowing how to care appropriately so as to keep compassion and empathy without just giving up.
This was totally a whim purchase. I saw the title and thought, "Yeah. I need this in my life."
Straight off the bat, it's fairly well written but sometimes the author goes on tangents that seem to detract from the content rather than add anything of substance. It can feel long-winded at times. I purchased the 2022 revision and as far as I can tell, the only notable changes were mentions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the author's move back to the UK. Nothing really changed content-wise.
Now, on to the actual meat of the book. The premise is that if you cannot actively change it, if something is out of your control, then Fuck It. And let me tell you, I have never taken the words from a self-help book to heart so deeply. I read this shortly after the start of the new year (2023) and have actively used this premise as my New Year's resolution and it has made a WORLD of difference. I am prioritizing my mental health.
I would recommend this book to everyone and anyone but especially to my stressed-out peeps who are in that free-fall, out of control anxiety spot in life.
