Where do you go to fix a problem only you know about?
Lia and Stephanie have stumbled upon a new case for the detective agency to unravel.
It’s not stumping the police. It’s not even a cold case.
That’s because no one outside the magical world even knows it’s happening.
A grimoire that possesses the reader with the spirit of a dead wizard isn’t the sort of thing that makes the news, especially when the reader is a notorious recluse.
Unfortunately, that notorious recluse is also a software magnate with security clearance.
Now there’s a teensy possibility of World War III.
Oh, and LA is ground zero for the final showdown between the Council of Thaumaturges and the Orthodoxy, so that’s throwing a monkey wrench into everything as well.
I enjoyed the story and the characters are ok but I’m not overly excited about them. It’s a good end for the story so far, but not the best book in the series.
I’m a huge fan of Michael Anderle’s imagination and style, so don’t expect much constructive criticism in this review… more like a bunch of laudable love. LOL
This series is dramatically different from much of his other work, and that it lacks the “moral undertones“ that typically characterize much of his work. This is simply put a great, fun read. Yes, there is the whole good versus evil concept, but minus any further elaboration.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I believe you will thoroughly enjoy this entire series. He mentions in his author’s notes that this is the end of the line for the main protagonist in the series, but that there are other series in this universe that he plans to write in the future. To this I say, “bah humbug!“ I want more Kera!!! Her story is only just beginning, there is no way this can be the end. Of course, he’s the author, so I don’t really have much control over that. If I did, her first name might end up being Bethany Anne.
On that note all I can really tell you is you should definitely pick up the series and ENJOY!
A little disjoint, juggling two main stories, kera, and the council war. Kera gets short shrift, and, indeed, the council war is probably more interesting. A little deus ex machina, and kera split is mainly a macguffin to gives her something to do until she’s in a position to save the day. Resolves the plot, but we’re left with a lot of “well what do we do now” threads for all the characters and not much hope future books will address it; and indeed, another book would be tough with out a major adversary popping up. Would love the characters to drop into other books in the universe though - maybe one featuring a dragon vampire shifter (read the author notes).
Kera's character really grew from the first trilogy of a badass witch to the detective she became. She and her friends handled some interesting cases while also fighting 2 fractions of witches, and I'm glad the last book tied up all the troubles and questions of the 3 trilogies. I am looking forward to the next new series Michael Anderle and his fellow authors come out with.
I liked all the characters and hate to see Kera come to the end. Kera and Stephanie were just getting in sync. Please consider continuing her story as a witch detective. I can see another 8 books. Michael, you are the king of urban fantasy and can make it happen. Ad Aeternatatum
What a great ending to an amazing series. It is not often I am happy with a series ending, but this book wrapped everything in a nice bow. Thank you MA for providing me another awesome adventure and a glorious escape from the here and now. You kind sir, rock.
As Kera resolved conflicts in her personal life, she must finish the confrontations with the Council and the Orthodoxy, all while dealing with an ancient sorcery possessing people through the ages.
Can't believe it's the end for Kera and co. The drama was spun out until the very end and to be honest I wasn't sure our good guys would win. Would be nice if Michael added to this world, I loved it.
Kera and the guys put the bad guy back in the book and help the council from afar with Pavla help. The council finally beat the orthodoxy but it cost them a few more lives.
Absolutely breath taking, meaning bad stuff going down. Now that all the hidden is unfolding the battle begins. Will the Murfiel win or is it going into overtime?
