Her Hometown Man was a wonderful read featuring a romance between a woman returning to her home town and the man next door.

Gwen Sutton left her home town of Stonefield, New Hampshire at the first opportunity and has avoided going back as much as possible. But after the death of her father six months ago, the family has been working to make his dream of a brewery a reality and now they need Gwen's help. Gwen makes it clear she'll stay long enough to get the brewery open but then she's gone. But Gwen hadn't counted on the attraction that develops between her and Case Danforth, her childhood crush, or how much he makes her want to stay.

Gwen is the eldest of the Sutton sisters and makes her living as a writer. Gwen based her books in a small town similar to Stonefield and every time she comes back, she's bombarded with opinions from the townsfolk. Currently Gwen is struggling to write her latest book and helping with the brewery is only going to put her further behind. Case owns and operates a tree cutting service with his cousin that was started by their fathers. Case enjoys his work and genuinely enjoys his life in Stonefield. Oh and he owns an adorable dog named Boomer who was an absolute delight throughout the book.

Gwen had a crush of Case for pretty much her entire childhood but because he had dated one of her sisters in high school, he was always off limits to her. When Gwen returns to town, both her and Case are caught off guard by the attraction that develops between them. Eventually they give in to the attraction and their romance goes from there. The chemistry between them was fantastic and I loved the banter they shared. The pair do run into some issues as Gwen is open about leaving eventually and Case's life is so deeply tied to Stonefield that it would be next to impossible for him to leave. I liked the way they ultimately resolved that issue and the direction their relationship went.

Overall Her Hometown Man was a fantastic read and I definitely plan to pick up the next book in the series, An Unexpected Cowboy, soon.

Terrific start to the new series. Gwen is a writer who left her small town behind as soon as possible and rarely returned. But with her father's death six months ago, her mother and sisters called her home to help finish the brewery and pub that was his dream. Gwen complies but makes it clear she's returning to her solitary writer's life as soon as possible. She's working on a new book and is running behind on finishing it because of various issues. She never expected her girlhood crush on her sister's ex-boyfriend to be as strong as ever.

Case has lived across the street from the Suttons all his life. He owns a tree-cutting service with Lane, his cousin and best friend, and loves his life in Stonefield. Gwen was the quiet sister of his high school girlfriend. He's surprised by his sudden attraction to her and unsure what to do about it.

I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between Case and Gwen. Case has always been a friend to the Suttons and, after David's death, pitched in to help with anything they need. As Lane is also a partner in the fledgling brewery, Case has added incentives to ensure the brewery is successful. He spends much of his free time helping out, which puts him near Gwen. Gwen resists the pull at first with the idea that you don't date your sister's ex. But after a toe-curling kiss with Case and a hilarious conversation with her sister, she gives in. She remains clear that she doesn't plan to stay in Stonefield past the brewery's opening, but Case finds himself hoping to change her mind.

I liked Case and Gwen though she did frustrate me at times. Because she's spent so much time away from Stonefield, her relationships with her family have suffered. She's not as close and sometimes comes off as self-centered. However, I felt her grief over her father's death and guilt over missing so much time with him. Part of Gwen's problem with her hometown is her awkward relationship with the townspeople since the publication of her first book and its movie adaptation. Though she and her family regain their closeness as they work together, Gwen remains fixated on her goal of returning to Vermont. Case is an all-around nice guy. He has a big heart which shows in his relationship with the Suttons and with the townspeople. He has an adorable dog named Boomer, who tends to steal the scenes where he appears. Case is ready to settle down and pictures a life with Gwen.

As the summer progresses and the brewery comes together, Case and Gwen grow closer. I loved seeing how observant Case is regarding Gwen's moods and the steps he takes to help her through them. He is very good at seeing what she needs and trying to see that she gets it, which creates some delightful scenes between them. But Gwen has some decisions to make when the brewery opening is done. Does she return to her old life or take a chance on staying home? I ached for her and Case as she wrestled with this question. The ending was terrific, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Sutton family dynamics were a large part of this book. Each woman deals with her grief in her own way while helping to bring David's dream to fruition. Gwen has to deal with the family's pressure for her to stay. Mallory, the middle daughter, is a single mother of two who lives with her mother and helps with the family store and the brewery. Evie is the youngest, a rolling stone, who is also the ex-wife of Lane, the brewmaster and co-owner of the brewery. Evie had no idea of that partnership until she came home and was not happy to be blindsided by it. Ellen is the driving force behind the completion of the brewery for many reasons. She is the glue that holds the family together while trying to find a way to make peace with David's death. An emotional scene involving Ellen and some glassware illustrates the scope of her grief.

I loved the brewery/pub setting and seeing how everyone worked together to make it happen. Lane is an interesting character, and I look forward to seeing more of him. An emotional scene involving him and some special beers at the brewery opening illustrate the bond between him and David.

This did some cute things with tropes and commonly expected things in romance. I especially liked the communication between the two main characters even though Gwen drove me nuts. She was such a stick in the mud at times.

Her Hometown Man begins Sutton’s Place series with an emotion-filled romance on so many levels. The sudden changes in her family’s life due to her father’s death have her returning home to face many family challenges and her past history with this town… and one particular man. Gwen has to face her past before she can find a future, and that’s not going to be easy when all she can think of while in her childhood home is how soon she can realistically leave and get back to the safety, the aloneness of her life in Vermont. Home brings back too many memories, too many second thoughts, and perhaps too many regrets as well.

Her father was in the process of opening a pub/brewery with some local men when he suddenly died leaving not only a grieving family but unfinished business as well. Gwen’s family has called, cajoled, and even threatened her to return home to help get the new business off the ground. So, she’s back and not one bit happy about that fact. The new pub/brewery was partially partnered by her childhood crush, Case… and Gwen is in no mood to run into him again. Plus, she’s suffering from writer’s block and her agent/editor is on her back wanting to know when that manuscript is going to be delivered. Gwen’s been putting her off, but something has to give, and soon. It doesn’t help that there is a bit of hostility from neighbors and townsfolk in her small hometown ever since her best-selling novel became a movie. Everyone she encounters is certain that a character in her book/movie was them in disguise and not everyone is happy with their perceived fictionalized personality.

Not one of the Sutton sisters wants to be here making their father’s dream a reality for various reasons. But it’s also their mother’s dream to honor her husband by completing his partnership in this venture. She’s determined, the sisters are reluctant, and the men in their lives are… often clueless to the tensions around them.

When Gwen’s relationship with Case begins to go beyond friendship to maybe something more life-altering she panics because she believes she cannot stay here… and she knows that Case will not leave. Stalemate.

I absolutely loved Her Hometown Man and the characters we meet here. Each sister is unique, with their own far different personality, their own dreams, and fears. Gwen and Case were obviously perfect for each other from the start. But those pesky perceptions, the obstacles they saw standing in the way, and their stubbornness as well almost cost them everything that love has to offer. Unconditional love. I found Gwen and Case believable, yes, there were times when they each deserved a smack on the back of the head or at least a stern conversation for their unbelievable stubbornness… but I still loved them as a couple, they fit, they filled in the spaces the other lacked.

This book was on my TBR pile for far too long, and now I need to get caught up with the rest of the series. I had an absolute blast here. And if you love a good, solid romance with believable characters, secondary characters you cannot wait to learn more about, and a family healing after a devastating loss… then you’d feel right at home with Her Hometown Man.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.

This story had everything I’ve come to expect from this author when it comes to romance, family, and small towns. Gwen is back in her small town to help her recently widowed mother, but she’s not leaving her life in the big city to go home. Gwen lives in a different small town. She didn’t leave home to go bigger, she left home because she felt as though everyone in her town wanted and/or needed validation from her once her first book was published and they all assumed they were in her book. The thing is, Gwen can’t see beyond her own thought, from years ago, that she never wants to move back. But now, being a good daughter and sister, she’s moving back at least temporarily.

Case grew up across the street from the Sutton family. Closest in age to Gwen, she always had a huge crush on the guy. The reason she didn’t pursue said crush is interesting, but I’ll let you discover that for yourself. I’m not always thrilled with the unrequited crush scenario when one of the potential pair had feelings all this time and the other did not. Quite honestly, I was a bit nervous at first with this one. The author is able to pull it off, but I did feel Gwen’s longtime crush was a central issue for Gwen for the first half of the book, and then fell by the wayside for some reason.

While Case is not involved in the actual family business Gwen came home to help out with, he’s a wonderful person and fantastic neighbor so he’s always willing to jump in and help out. The business partner of the Sutton endeavor is also Case’s cousin/best friend, so he personally wants to see this business succeed. Being that he’s around the Sutton’s a lot, Case and Gwen are seeing a lot of each other. Their chemistry is great, sizzling while also a bit sweet. Case is very observant and it’s lovely how he very quickly learns to read Gwen’s moods and what she may need. Gwen’s mom and sisters are all as stressed as her and don’t have a minute to look up from their own worry and grief to really help each other emotionally the way they all need.

I really fell in love with the Sutton women and their friends. I’m looking forward to the journey each sister will take finding their HEA.

This first story in the series introduces us to the three Sutton sisters. Sisters that went their separate ways but after the unexpected death of their father, they come back when asked to help their mother with the brewery that was their dad’s dream. Each had dreams of their own when they left. Dreams that not always worked the way they wanted.
This story belongs to Gwen, the oldest, who is an author and is currently dealing with writer’s block.
To complicate her life she is forced to see and work with the boy, now man, that was and seems to still be her crush.
Case Danforth has always been attracted to Gwen and as a friendship and relationship develop, he hopes Gwen will decide to stay.
But will she take a leap of faith and stay home where she belongs, or will she return to Vermont, leaving Case, and her family behind?
This is a series about family, and finding love. One that I will continue to follow.

Gwen Sutton has returned to her hometown of Stonefield, New Hampshire, to help her mom and sisters open up a pub/brewery that was their late father's dream. And across the street is Case Danforth, a former high school boyfriend of Gwen's sister, Mallory. But Stonefield holds bad memories for Gwen, a published author whose best selling book was made into a movie. And all the folks in town think they are in the book and movie and have comments about it. So Gwen stays at home in Vermont. But her teen crush on Case has never gone away.

This was pretty good. And one of the best things was the Stonefield Gazzette's postings on it's Facebook Page at the beginning of each chapter.

Gwen, a writer, returns to her family home in a small New Hampshire town to help her family start a brewery. She finds herself involved with Case, their neighbor, and the man Gwen crushed in when they were teens. But Gwen longs to return to Vermont, where she can write and avoid the townspeople who think Gwen’s work is more memoir than fiction and all about them.

This book is a great series starter. I enjoyed Case’s dog, Boomer, and how Gwen and her sister Evie repaired their relationship.

Like most Shannon Stacey books this one had me from the first paragraph to the epilogue. Her characters feel like new friends I've just met and now I'm falling in love along with them. She's one of the few authors on my auto buy list. Don't wait, just buy whatever she writes, if you love romance you won't be disappointed. <3

This was a quick read. I liked the small town atmosphere and the family dynamics. The romance was sweet and I liked how direct they were with each other. Though the overall feel was light, there were some emotional scenes as they dealt with the loss of their dad. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Love revealed

I forgot how much I enjoy Shannon's writing style. The characters come alive in her descriptions. Maybe growing up in a small town where everyone knows you and your family helps, but I found myself laughing and crying along with the Sutton girls. To me when the author sparks your emotions it's a great read.

Now on to book 2 in the series.

second chance romance

This is a great start to the series. Gwen Sutton has reluctantly returned home to help her family. Next door lives her teenage crush and now the grown man of her dreams. Being in her nosy hometown stifles the creativity she needs to meet her novel deadline, but she may have to sacrifice love for her career.

It took me awhile to read it as we were out straight with work because of Xmas/New Years renters and then MLK long weekend renters. I loved the book and the characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Finding Love!

Gwen is summoned back home by her for some help. Finding out what that help truly is doesn’t make Gwen happy but seeing her crush Case is another entire story. I loved this small town story and this family. I can’t wait for next book!

I always love reading Shannon Stacey's books and this one was no exception. I am so excited to start this new series and see where it leads to.

Gwen has made it crystal clear she is only staying until the new brewery is up and running, which she thought would be no more than a few weeks, well, it might just turn into forever.

Gwen is a successful novelist who is also having major writers block after the death of her father and having to temporarily move back home to help out the family business.

Case has fallen hard and fast for Gwen, he has known her almost her whole life and now that they are adults, he is infatuated. The chemistry between the two of them is electric and sparks fly every time they get close to each other.

I love the family dynamics between the characters and how close they are. They all come together to work and get the family business up and running and to fulfill their dad's greatest dream, a brewery.

Loved every minute of this book. Can't wait for the next one!

I waffled on what to rate this book because it was a solid if familiar effort from Stacey. I love her stuff and she does cozy family and smalltowns better than anyone I know. But it looks like ALL the books in this series are going to feature her favorite trope again: Someone wants to LEAVE, and someone needs to STAY. This really is her primary conflict driver in 99% of her books, and sometimes she kills it and sometimes it feels a little by the numbers. This one was lovely (and broke me out of a reading slump). I loved the family and the sisters and the brewery subplot, but the ending definitely felt predictable. Overall though I settled for a "really liked it" because she is a great writer and I picked up book 2 right away, which says something doesn't it?
