Werewolf Mountain Resort #1

The Wolf’s Arranged Marriage

Rate this book
I feel like I’m living in the freaking Middle Ages.

I just promised myself to a man I’ve never met for the sake of my pack.
The pack that I’m somehow supposed to be the Alpha of.
The pack that I have no idea how to lead.
I’d better learn quickly, though.

Because here he is, unexpected, all but ambushing me.
His eyes, the glinting green of polished emeralds, pin me in place.
His jaw, angular with a trimmed beard, makes him look dangerous.
His condescending words, smooth like velvet, cut to my core.

So this is my very hot, very unimpressed husband.
I am woefully unprepared for this marriage.
But he just stalks into my space, all lean muscle and prowling grace.
It takes all I’ve got to get a grip on myself and the situation.

What on earth have I signed up for?

Vacationing at a mountain resort is a lot of hard work. Fortunately, we’ve called some very hot shifters to help. They’ll flex those bulging muscles only for you, so that you can enjoy a day in the wild outdoors without having to worry about the beasts in the shadows. And afterward, they’ll run a bath for you and massage your sore muscles…

This is Werewolf Mountain Resort, where the hottest shifters in the country are at your service.

Hi there! I’m Layla Silver, and I’m so happy to see you here :) I’m a mom of three adorable kids and after all these years, still wildly in love with my awesome and hard-working husband. I LOVE to write about hot shifters, whether Wolves, Bears, or Dragons, who are looking for their mates and will do anything to protect them no matter what comes their way. When I’m not writing or spending time with my family (which is pretty rare, but I’m not complaining!), I like to be in the mountains chasing paranormal dreams.

Ok this was actually so much fun and super sweet! I’m going to continue on with this series for sure and can’t wait to learn more about Kaia’s pack.

It’s only 100 pages so def check it out!

— —

Kaia is a wolf-shifter who is finally taking her place as Alpha in her scattered and almost defunct pack. To save it she has to secure a new treaty with the panther pride — whose Alpha demands she marry her son to sign the deal. Renly wants nothing to do with his mother but agrees to the arranged marriage (and to spy on Kaia) so she doesnt remove pride protection from his sibling.

They are unsure of each other at first but Renly quickly finds himself enamoured with Kaia and her desire to save her pack. He wants to help her succeed and decides to double cross his mum (who deserves it cause she is an awful and manipulative person). I love how they worked together and how he became someone she could trust. She was so used to be treated as less that having someone believe in her was heart melting.

It was a seriously sweet romance (with steamy scenes of course).

What an unexpected read. I expected your normal shifter read but this was so much more. In this we meet Kaia our alpha and bride and Renly the smoking hot groom in this arranged marriage. Their chemistry is off the charts and I loved their interactions and then there’s the secrets and drama to contend with! It’s a well written, fast paced paranormal read about finding love when you least expect it.

full of surprises

I love a really good happily ever after! I don’t read them often as I tend to prefer action and mystery mixed in with my paranormal but I really liked this one! I like that even though both of the main characters had problems and quirks, they learned to get to know each other and ended up being each of their saving grace for them! It was a fun read! I’ll be checking out more from this author!

Needs a prequel

Kaia didn't want to rule, so she didn't. But who took over the pack nearly killed them and took her sister hostage. She freed Ava, but now is bound herself, because the pack needs an alpha. And to be that alpha she has to make alliances with neighboring alphas until her pack can stand on their feet. So, an arranged marriage it is. He's the alpha's son, and hates his mom, so this should go well. Right?

Spoilers ahead.
So much of this is dependent on apparently another series or book. I think. It's rather vague. But if there's supposed to be a linear plot, then maybe mentioning that reading this other book or series would be really helpful. Because these characters are thrown at readers with a vague backstory, but no real history. Both characters start off angry and scared, and that doesn't promote bonding. Not from readers, and not to each other. Their whole relationship is built within several weeks that we don't even witness, and a plot thrown together in the vague background previously mentioned. They literally go from his grudge taking her to bed and her being so hard up from a dry spell that she accepts the slightest interest with weak knees. He's trained to please females due to his matriarchal monster run pride. It's all in his thoughts during the scene. Then, poof, 3 unseen weeks later they're suddenly in love and hiding it from each other? What? How are we supposed to believe their bond? Even teens high on being in love with love wouldn't believe that premise. I loved the idea of a battered female alpha wanting to rescue her pack. I loved the idea of a downtrodden male wanting to rescue his friends and himself. But we don't see any of the important things we're supposed to believe in.
*We don't see her battle her way to alpha.
*We don't see her healing and pulling ideas together.
*We don't see her closing up her old life, just a brief visit while she's driving to the new.
*We don't see her plotting and planning with her friends on how to rescue and rebuild the pack.
*We're never told who the other members are, where they've gone, how many there are, nothing.
*We don't see Renly's assistance in action. Not the adding to the plans, not the meeting itself where the plans are revealed, not him working with Silas on their plans, nothing.
*We don't see them discovering themselves under years of hiding or abuse. We don't see them recover or grow.
*We don't see them bond.
*The most we ever learn about them is he's slept around to feel in control (no shaming, you claim what you can in that kind of situation), she has scars and can't have dairy. That's it. That's the sum total of anything other than vague physical descriptions.
*Why couldn't she visit a shifter doctor? To determine the damage and/or healing? No world building, so we don't know how this shifter world operates out of sight from the humans.
*We never learn about this all important rule of succession in case his mom goes on a revenge rampage.

The idea seems so good. Rescue, rebuilding, rediscovered dreams, romance. But it needs a lot more to pull readers in and hold them. Ideas are great, fleshing them out so that readers want to linger and savor, revisit, that's something different.

Just couldn't .

When I come across books that have the rolls reversed I find it difficult to get into the story .A strong powerful woman isn't the problem ,it's trying to stay in the framework of a female dominant world with men being subservient. It doesn't work for me and I can not get any joy from such universe. I find myself constantly scoffing and running through situations that are supposed to be held in place of women powerful and men beneath woman and the only reason they give for female power is it is given to them ....from men? See that doesn't work because in reality we are not animals ,even if this is A shifter book ,and men are dominate to women in their physical bodies and the only way woman could hold power in such a way is if it was given by males ....so the cycle continues and when I read ," she told him ," take off your clothes and Get on bed" and he gritted his teeth knowing he was not in a situation of power .........yea don't work. His sheer body strength makes him ...dominate .Men are not as a whole going to be ruled by woman .And that's why I don't read these type of books .
Reality just won't let me do it .

Kaia is trying to step up and be Alpha to her pack: she needs the cooperation of a neighbouring panther pack and to get it she agrees to marry the Alpha’s son who she has never met. She’s not happy about it but will do anything to rebuild and strengthen her pack.
Renly has been leading the good life, running a successful business and planning a future away from his mother, so when she turns up and tells him he has to marry a wolf Alpha, he isn’t happy but if he refuses, his mother will withhold her protection from him, his brother and his business partner Silas.
When they meet, they both have preconceived misconceptions about what the other will be like and what they will want. For a quick read it was surprisingly well detailed: Both Renly and Kaia were wonderful people and their concern for others comes across loud and clear. Their attraction is unmistakable and the sex is hot!
A fantastic start to this new series.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an ARC copy of the book.

Missing substance

If you want to spend pages reading every minute detail about what a hotel room looks like, what the character is wearing and just exactly what they're eating, then this is the book for you. I thunk if that amount of focus and dedication could have been rerouted to the relationship and connection between the hero and heroine, then this would have been a really good book.
However, we do not have that here, we have a loose, somewhat plotted out story, that is pegged as a romance but felt more about a land/resort deal with instalove as a side plot. Altho even the whole resort plot wasn't very fleshed out, which is kinda surprising given the amount of detail given to unimportant aspects.
All in all, this felt rushed, lacked substance, and wasn't a very enjoyable read for me.

A Perfect Beginning
Kaia is the alpha by default of her pack when her grandfather and both parents die. Her pack is in trouble because of a usurper who is killed by an outsider. Now Kaia must pick up the pieces, become the alpha she was born to be and fix the trouble in the pack. Kaia agrees to an arranged marriage in order to reinstate the agreement with the neighboring panther clan. This tale is the most entertaining and exciting story that I have read in a long time. The originality and intensity held my interest to the last page. I did not want it to end. I want to know what happens next! I will be following this series, excited for the next installment. This is the perfect beginning of a new series. I loved it!
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review

5 / 10 ⭐️

A big role reversal. Where the females are alphas and the men dominated house husbands. And an arranged marriage were the guy had no clue it was set up and forced to do it. It was different. Although the women are the alphas Renley was dominant and possessive in the bedroom. Kaia seemed naive. Really fast read and honestly not my favorite. Every once a while I try to give the supernatural/ fantasy a try and maybe I’m not picking the right books. Or it’s just not my thing but this one was super easy to read and fast only 100 pages.

Interesting, different,

Honestly I would give this book 3 1\2 stars if I knew how. I found my mind wandered too much in the beginning trying to understand and make it fit appropriately. After the middle the book got interesting and had a better ending. This was not for me, it honestly could be for you. Author has interesting imagination. I was glad Kaia worked the situation out to become a winner.

HEA, dislike to love, shifter romance

Some reviews on here almost dissuaded me from reading this. Overall, I loved the concept of the book. It wasn't confusing or cringe. Was the romance a little fast? Yeah but isn't that how Shifter romances work? MC has her own faults and trauma that make her feel more realistic. And don't we all love a touch-her-and-I'll-kill-you kind of love interest?
Good, quick read. Excited to read the rest of the series!

Reply and Kaia are being forced into marriage

When her Grandfather dies and her parents are killed, Kaia, a wolf shifter, is next in line to become the Alpha. The pack is scattered and in danger of hostile actions from the Claw of Panthers living nearby. The Panther Alpha says she will agree to a truce if Kais marry her son!! You'll never guess what happens...

They will triumph and succeed despite his enemy.

Steamy and sweet paranormal romance with a happily ever after. Maia and Renly aren't looking for love, but his mother has forced him into trying to undermine her efforts to save her pack and it's lands. Wonderful characters, and unexpected twists in the plot, I think this is a must read.

This was a good storyline, and I liked the characters. I just feel like I needed something more for the extra stars. There was a lot of telling rather than showing and I think that took away from what could have been an epic story. It was a nice easy read and if you enjoy a quick romance than this one might be for you.

This book was not inherently bad. In fact, the writing was actually quite decent. The big, GLARING issue with this is that it was missing all the MEAT of the book. I mean, literally, it felt like someone took the first five and last five chapters of a book and just smooshed them together. Like, we completely glazed over ALL of the plot AND relationship development. Very frustrating.

Big Bad Panther Chef

Well duh you have to be bad to stand up to the Monarch and then five minutes later, tail between his legs and packs his clothes, doing what she says cause she pulled the rug right out from under your feet. But was it really that bad?

Simply put - I got bored. Like, REALLY bored. Nothing was happening, I mean there were soooo many words but they didn’t actually meet until almost 1/2 way through the book. I just could not push through, I didn’t care for the story enough to finish.

I great HEA story. A different take on most shifters storylines. I liked that the strong, sexy male was subservient to the subtly beautiful alpha female. I highly recommend.

I like this book

I’m a first time reader of this author. I enjoyed reading this story and getting to know the characters. I loved the story between Kai and Renly. I love the idea that it’s a female alpha and that roles can change to benefit everyone.

Kaia

I loved this story of a crane new beginning. Mama learn to become a strong Alfa for her pack.
She learns to take charge of life no matter what it brought her even if it was a panther to be married to.
