If you ever knew something wasn't quite right, Anelthalien is waiting. Shaken from their encounter with the cloaked figure, Kindle, Tad, Ella, and Andrew continue their quest across Anelthalien to find and end the evil throne. Fractured by a secret among them, the heroes escape into a forest trembling with Anelthalien's memories. Their goal to reach the evil throne dims, though, as the elements, obscure foes, and the past push them to doubt their mission and even if they can trust one another. Kindle, Tad, Ella, and Andrew must remember who they can trust or their disunity will rip all hope away from them and Anelthalien.
Earth Quaking is the second book in the Christian fantasy series Anelthalien. Anelthalien begins the story of four teens who are transported to a strange land when they find mysterious necklaces. The four teens learn they are heroes who are tied to the salvation or demise of the land of Anelthalien. The Anelthalien series can be enjoyed by middle grade, young adult, and adult readers. Anyone who loves reading portal fantasy books with a deeper message would enjoy Anelthalien. Earth Quaking is a fantasy adventure but also teaches spiritual truths and answers difficult questions of faith such as: Why do bad things happen? Who can I trust? Can I trust God and how do I know? How can I discern God's voice from other voices? Although Earth Quaking provides an escape into a wondrous fantasy land, it also equips readers with encouragement and Biblical truth that will help them in daily life.
H.A. Pruitt is the Christian fantasy author of Anelthalien. She lives with her rowdy herd of guinea pigs and her sarcastic husband. She never wanted to be an author and would have been content to remain unknown to the world, but God decided that she would be perfect to hear the story of Anelthalien and share it with the world. Now H.A. Pruitt's goal in all she does and writes is to listen to, obey, and glorify God.
H. A. Pruitt is the author of the Christian fantasy book Anelthalien. Anelthalien is a portal fantasy that readers say reminds them of The Chronicles of Narnia. H.A.Pruitt is a pastor’s wife who teaches two Bible studies and wrote the recovery program for the church they serve. Her mission in all she does is to listen to, obey, and glorify God. She has always enjoyed art, using her imagination, and writing and is enjoying God using those abilities to shape her into an author. Also, she really loves her guinea pigs . . . all 14 of them.

Four young heroes – Kindle, Tad, Ella, and Andrew – are making their way through unfamiliar country. Dangers surround them, and their quest to save Anelthalien and put an end to the evil throne feels more impossible and uncertain as the days pass.
But it’s not only their quest that the heroes are uncertain of…
One of them is hiding something, and, before long, shadows of suspicion begin to cloud their vision, their purpose, and their ability to trust one another. Like me, I suppose you’re wondering: if the four heroes can’t overcome their own doubts and learn to trust again, what hope does the land of Anelthalien and its people have?
Earth Quaking is a stunning exploration of that struggle we all face between doubt and faith. Kindle, Tad, Ella, and Andrew are four of the most real, endearing, and well-written characters you’ll find between the covers of a book. After reading Earth Quaking, I cannot choose my favorite; I love them all and see a little of myself in each of them.
And, perhaps, that’s part of the wonder of Anelthalien. You go there for a good story and a thrilling adventure, only to discover pieces of yourself that you’ve been missing, that you thought were gone for good.
So, if you’re looking for the courage to endure impossible circumstances…
If you’re longing to reclaim the hope you need to place your trust in someone again…
If you need help to remember that things really do happen for a reason and at the perfect time… Open the pages of Earth Quaking.
Anelthalien is waiting, and it’s that rare fantasy world where hope comes alive and faith begins to flourish again.
A stunning sequel! I really enjoyed Anelthalien and it ended feeling like the story had just begun so I was so excited to get my hands on Earth Quaking!
Pros: Really really good sequel. As we all know, sometimes sequels aren't always that great but this didn't feel like a second book at all! It had it's own main theme that tied in perfectly to the plot laid out by the first book and read as an instant continuation from book 1.
Exciting character development! It was amazing to see they characters learn more about each other and their strengths and weakness and really see them working as a team, learning how to help each other and succeed.
Cons: Because it's written from Kindle's POV, we don't know any more than she does which causes a lot of the word building and action that's going on to be confusing. Although I loved reading the few chapters from the villain's POVs, I wasn't entirely sure who they were at times. It started making more sense towards the end of the book though. Also in a few scenes there were a lot of character names being thrown around which made it hard to follow.
As a super character driven book, there wasn't a lot of plot development. The characters didn't make any big decisions or travel through a variety of places so the settings themselves were a little bland (or at least didn't change hardly at all) and there while a lot of dangerous things happened, it focused more on the characters and how they dealt with it instead of really building the feeling of danger or feeling like anything momentous was happening. But this is just because I like heavy plot driven books.
Over all, Earth Quaking is a clean, ya, epic fantasy that's an excellent sequel to Anelthalien and I highly recommend!
This sequel took everything I enjoyed in its precursor, Anelthalien, and raised it to new heights of imagination, intensity, and inspiration! The world is delightfully creative—fascinating and vast without being overwhelming—and watching the young characters grow in their faith and relationships with one another is so uplifting. A great fantasy read for young adults with great messaging for anyone and everyone!
Earth Quaking addresses one of the age-old questions through the eyes of Kindle. Unable to hear her maker speak through the amulet she wears like Ella and Tad can, she questions if the makers are dead as she’s been told to believe. As someone whose faith has been recently shaken, this was a good story for me to read. One of the chapters was titled “Darkening Doubt” which I’ve had my fair share of. I’ve been there with Kindle as she wondered if her maker planned the path she was meant to walk, then why would he allow the bad things to happen? Despite the main character’s name, it’s Ella who shines in this story and is the light throughout.
The feeling of Narnia is still present throughout the story with the four heroes destined to save the land, but there were hints of Lord of the Rings in this tale. The scene with Lord Beryl (well… in the beginning) reminded me of a scene in Rohan, and of course a tree creature scooping up people reminded me of the Ents.
It had been a little while since I read the first book, so I somewhat forgot their mission and was unsure what the plot of this book was. The technical aspects could have used a little more work, such as a few more edits. There were some errors, such as single quotations in dialogue, “grey” spelled as so, and misplaced or lack of dialogue tags.
Overall, it was a deep story that made me think and reflect. I’m eager to continue the quest and learn more about these necklaces.
A fun fantasy adventure perfect for fans of the Chronicles of Narnia! I cannot express how much I loved this book and am genuinely enjoying the Anelthelien Series as a whole. H.A. Pruitt is an amazing writer, and she has such a creative imagination. I feel like I’m a kid again going on this adventure with these four teens. I’m not normally a person to read or enjoy books about teenagers, but she makes them so relatable that I enjoy reading their story and can’t wait to read what comes next! The character dynamics in this book especially worked so well and made the book very entertaining. As the kids are finally on their journey alone, they argue and have to learn to work together. I also love how you never know what’s going to happen next. This book is filled with so many fun, quirky, fantasy elements that just makes it so much fun to read. I also love the Christian elements and spiritual lessons. A lot of aspects of this book came to me at a time when I needed it. H.A. Pruitt truly has a gift, and I will continue to follow and read her work. The illustrations are soooo gorgeous, and I loved the interior formatting. It’s clean and fun and this book also had a lot of action in it that really kept me on my toes! The characters all have unique personalities and voices and are so relatable. 4.5 stars!
Building on the foundations of Anelthalien, Earth Quaking continues to illustrate spiritual truths in an easily accessible manner. The four teens who make up the unlikely band of heroes, while flawed and struggling, only become easier to root for as we gain a deeper understanding of each and catch those momentary glimmers when they gel as a team. I really enjoy how Pruitt is developing those relationships realistically, with some forging stronger bonds while others take two steps forward and one step back, creating varied and interesting dynamics amongst the group. The overall series plot is still a slow burn, but we do get a couple hints at the bigger picture in this installment, and I'm intrigued to see where it goes next.
The adventure continues! The story flows from one book to book two as our four heroes escape Iteraum City and the attack by the small horrible creature following them. As the group continues in their journey all four must find a way to work together, but personality differences make that difficult.
The story continues from Kindle's point of view and shows her inner struggles with the new world she finds herself within, and the need to trust the necklace gifted to her in book one and the Maker tied to it. The themes of faith, trust, and struggling with doubts runs through the whole story as difficulties and mistakes slam into Kindle and her companions.
The character development in this story is strong. I enjoyed the brief scenes with Methoshine as a glimpse into the villain's world. During the action, I often wished the writer had added a few scenes from the other heroes' points of view.
All in all, I enjoyed the story and recommend it to anyone looking for clean young adult reading. I will be sharing the books with my 12-year-old soon.
I was intrigued enough by this series to keep going with the sequel, and I'm glad my gamble paid off. I was able to jump right into Kindle, Tad, Ella and Andrew's adventure with little preamble and appreciate their developing relationships with each other. I got frustrated with the rambling dialogue, especially Kindle, but not in a bad way. I really appreciated how they talked like normal kids despite being placed in a fantasy world.
The work felt like a piece of a saga rather than a standalone book, which is totally fine in this case. I did think the writing style could be cleaned up in places, but I wasn't continuously struggling. I already have book 3 from the library and want to start it.
