Respected Crown Attorney, Christine Montgomery is accused of murdering her lying, cheating, ex-husband when he dies in a fire on their own property. Her life is shattered as she endures an emotional journey through invasive media and suspicious colleagues. When her childhood friend, local firefighter Jake Anderson, attempts to help Christine prove her innocence, an unexpected romance ignites. Dodging a killer, Jake and Christine struggle to avoid media who suggest they were already lovers and planned the murder as a way out of her failed marriage. Will Christine avoid doing time with criminals she's put behind bars? Is Jake all he seems? Who is the real killer and what is the connection to Christine?
Christine knew things with her husband weren’t good. She just never realized how bad until she found proof of an affair and even worse, proof that David was scamming people. When their house burns down with David in it, Christine must prove with the help of her best friend, that she is innocent of murder. All Fired up by Sue Jaskula is a character driven story. You immediately feel bad for Christine and are rooting for her to win. I was surprised by a few turns that the story took and the suspense kept me reading. For a fast, fun read, I’d give All Fired up a chance!
From page one this story sucks you in and takes you on a thrilling ride of who killed David and why. I couldn’t put this story down and was forming all sorts of theories in my head as more pieces of the puzzle were introduced.
Christine discovers her husband is not only scamming people, but he is also have an affair with his coworker. However, the night she confronts him with this information he ends of dead in a fire at their home. Fingers are quickly pointed at Christine, her father (who works for the policy) and her best friend/neighbor, Jake, who also happens to be a firefighter as was one of the first to scene of the crime. I felt for Christine throughout this story. She was being blamed for the crimes but she knew she was innocent, but the public throughout her position as the crown attorney could cause her to commit the perfect murder.
I loved all the characters throughout this story and they all played a major role in the mystery. I was super excited to find out my suspicious of how was behind everything were correct.
If you’re looking for a mystery/thriller, suspense story with a little romance sprinkled in this is one to check out.
All Fired Up is a gripping, romantic murder mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed! The fast, ever twisting plot kept me engaged from page 1 until the end. If you're looking for an interesting, quick, thrilling mystery- I think you should check this book out. *Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Thrilling and tense moments in this mystery, murder.
Some great characters and a wonderful love story, this one will keep you on the edge of your seats, and there’s some really great twists you won’t be expecting.
Very enjoyable and entertaining read.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Christine knows something is wrong with her husband, David. When searching his desk she finds proof that not only is he having an affair but there is paperwork of different mortgages taken out on her, her father, and her best friend names. It looked like he was unfaithful and a scammer.
That night after yelling at him to leave before going to sleep, Christine wakes to her house on fire. After getting out, the fire and police departments show to investigate. When Jake, Christine's best friend and a firefighter on the scene ensures that she's okay but it is then found out that David never made it out.
While it looks like an accident, questions arise and it's determined that David did not die from the fire but was dead before the house went up in flames.
With Christine being the number one suspect, she wants to find out what happened and clear her name before it's too late.
All Fired Up is Sue Jaskula's debut novel. It starts immediately with Christine figuring out what her husband has been hiding and not long after the house is up in flames. Jaskula's takes no time to get right to the mystery which keeps the reader captivated. With back and forth questions on what happened and adding Christine's best friend, father and the additional emotions of grief, horror, and happiness this novel is a roller coaster.
It was pretty easy to figure out who from the beginning however, I enjoyed Jaskula's writing style. I would have liked a little more character development earlier but overall I really liked this novel.
I gave his novel ⭐⭐⭐⭐ review! Thank you Sue Jaskula for the advanced copy in exchanged for an honest review.
This book, you are in it from the very beginning and until the very end. I’m finding romantic suspense is a new trope that I can’t get enough of.
Christie is the FMC; she’s smart, accomplished and she’s definitely tough. Her husband is murdered and she’s torn apart through the media, and being a Crown Attorney definitely makes her newsworthy. Throughout the book, I was so engrossed with the murders and trying to figure out who did it.
This is a debut novel and Sue did a great job. The book definitely keeps you interested, the suspense is there and there’s definitely some twists and turns. The ending is so good, and how it all played out was utter perfection. In regards to romance, it’s definitely a slow burn and not as steamy as most of my other reads. With that said, the sexual chemistry is there between Christie and Jake and it was so cute to read. I definitely recommend for those who enjoy the suspense in novels with some added in romance. 💕
I love that moment when you get given a copy of a book from a new to you author, and you have absolutely no idea on whether you are going to love their plot, writing style and characters etc. This is how I felt picking up All Fired Up by Sue Jaskula, and I knew it would be something unique and different to my usual sloppy romance reads.
This book is captivating from the start, and as a reader you are thrust into the turmoil and mystery of a blazing fire. You soon learn the mystery surrounding the fire and the accusation of foul play.
Jaskula definitely keeps you on your toes with lots of twists, turns and drama. Her main character Christine is likeable. She's a high powered businesswoman, who ends up getting herself in a spot of bother as she becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation of her husband. But you cannot but help but root for her to be proven innocent, feeling completely sorry and captivated by the uncovered secrets of her marriage.
There's drama, romantic interest and suspense, action and lots of mystery, so if you enjoy playing detective, this will be a read for you.
Jaskula is thorough in her detail, clear in her concept, and I really enjoyed this story. The romance is realistic and I found this book to be the refreshing dose of something different and originality that I’ve needed in my reading life.
Perfect for those who love romantic mystery reads.
I was excited to read this book, which is a combination of two genres, thriller/mystery and romance, a friends turned lovers romance to be specific which I loved. All Fired Up jumps right into the action, there’s no slow burn, pardon the pun. Christine discovers that her husband is hiding a lot of secrets from her, and soon after he is killed in a fire. Despite their troubled marriage, Christine is determined to find out who killed her husband and why. Her best friend Jake is happy to help her, and their friendship very quickly becomes more. The romance part was a little trope-y, in my favorite ways, like Christine’s father always knew there was something more there. It was a really cute romance in the middle of the mystery. I did guess the mystery before the end but the reveal was still surprising, because there was so much more to it than I saw coming. The ending was perfect, I love a nicely tied up happy ending, and this was all of that. I would have liked an epilogue a few years in the future to please the sappy side of me, but really it wasn’t necessary. All in all, I definitely recommend this book, it’s perfect if you aren’t sure what you want to read next, a fun light read, or a suspense/mystery/thriller because this is both and you don’t have to pick.
Review: First off I would like to thank @suejaskfor providing me with an e-ARC of All Fired Up in exchange for an honest review! Truly what a wild ride! The novel wastes absolutely no time, from page one there is drama and suspense. What would you do if your cheating and lying husband died in a mysterious fire right after you expose his cheating and crimes? In Christine’s case she is thrust straight into a media circus. She is forced to attempt to clear her name while grappling with her growing feelings for her long time friend Jake. The mystery and ever present danger will keep you hooked! I definitely second guessed myself a few times, with the who-done-it style mystery. If mystery or suspense isn’t exactly your cup of tea, the novel has plenty of romance to make up for it. I am a such sucker for a good slow burn, they were so cute. (Oh my gosh and the dogs😍) An adorable friends to lovers with cute dogs, definitely ideal! All Fired Up is fast paced and definitely a page turner, and was the perfect read to lift my spirts during final exam week!
I was very lucky to be gifted an advanced reader copy of All Fired Up from Sue herself, and well, what can I say?! It was a complete page turner, or scroller, as I read it on my tablet, but oh my, what a read! This book had it all! Every chapter was a new twist and turn, and I thought I'd been a smart cookie, and worked it out, but nope, it got me(which I enjoy, I think it's boring to expect the normal) For me, I felt the author had written this as if I was witnessing the whole thing playing out, I felt like I was there, it was so easy to just get invested in. If you want a book to keep you in suspence and anticipation, then this will be right up your road. I'll drop a link in the comment section for where you can purchase this brilliant book from, though it doesn't come till tomorrow, preorder yours now. You won't be disappointed.
A new author for me and I wasn’t sure about it as romance is not really my thing and it was clearly a thread of the book. But I’m glad I gave it a go. I would categorise it as a police procedural thriller romance. This writer is very descriptive and the thriller side of the book is well written.
Briefly, when her husband is murdered, Crown Attorney Christine Montgomery is the main suspect. Her police officer father, and fireman friend Jake, are the only ones who believe in her innocence. Her life is in turmoil, her job seemingly at risk and her life is threatened. As his support for her is unwavering romance grows between Chrissie and Jake but that incenses the murderer and more lives are at risk...
I enjoyed this book and would definitely read this author again. The more explicit scenes were not for me but they aren’t that graphic - romance not erotica. I was also quite certain I knew the identity of the guilty person but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. 4* read.
eview: so this isn’t generally what I read. I’m crazy for all romance, but every once in a while I like to switch it up. This was a great crime/thriller/mystery with a touch of romance.
This book kept me on my toes the whole time. One moment I thought I knew what was going to happen next but that was never the case.
It’s so hard to really put my thoughts and feelings without giving too much away! I’m really just blown away and really enjoyed this debut novel!
Friends to lovers ✔️ Mystery ✔️ Slow burn ✔️ Fast fun read ✔️
When her soon to be ex husband is murdered in a fire and she is the media’s main suspect, can she keep herself and her loved ones safe from the real killer? This story was great! It was such a great storyline, and the mystery of who the killer really was and why was something That kept me turning the pages well into the night. I loved the twists and turns that kept popping up, and how well the mystery and love story unraveled. Such a great read! I look forward to reading more by this author.
I really enjoyed this book. Sue gave me an Advance copy and I’m glad she did. First I love jake! Hated his fiancé with a passion but loved him. Chris was very a very independent and likable character. She stood as strong as she should as the world she knew crumbled around her and worked against her. The story progressed well and really started off with a bang. From the first page, Sue hooks you. The mystery surrounding this book keeps you guessing and then at the end it’s a What!!??? This is definitely a great read and I look forward to reading more from Sue in the future.
Oh my goodness. I couldn't put it down! Sue reached out to me to read her ARC of this book. Thank you! This book sucked me in after the first couple pages into chapter 1! Romance/suspence/thriller read. I had two suspects in mind, and I was leaning towards one more then the other, expecting the ending to leave me brokenhearted. But I'm so glad I was wrong! Anything to do with best friends who turn into more is my cup of tea! I can't wait to read more from Sue!
An exciting and engaging page turner. Lots happening to our lovely protagonist and her fireman neighbor. Interesting characters. As usual, I would be happier without any foul language or intimate details, but that did not keep me from enjoying the story. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.
This book is a real who done it. There’s suspense, thrill, excitement, with a pinch of romance for all us romance lovers! This was a very exciting book and very entertaining in terms of the thrill and mystery of solving a case. I’m always a sucker for a good mystery! And this mystery really did catch me off guard in the end!
Happy debut Sue!
Thank you to the author for providing me a copy of this book for an honest review.
Not my typical read, but a good one non the less! This is a great drama/crime/thriller with some romance thrown in! The plot will be sure to pull you in, and keep you guessing. For her debut novel, this is one you won’t want to miss. (Sorry for the vague review, I don’t like to give spoilers. You won’t want them for this read)
this book is literally the definition of a page turner! from page one I was hooked and I didn’t put it down until I finished it! A fast paced, suspenseful novel brimming with excitement! The best part of the book were the surprises and twists that I wasn’t expecting at all! If you’re looking for a great, addictive read this is the book for you!
I received this book to read in exchange for my honest review!
THIS BOOK! OH MY GOODNESS THIS BOOK! I loved the entire storyline, and the character build up! It was beautifully done and well written. I personally am a fan of first person books, but that didn’t stop me from absolutely falling in love with the characters, and everything that was in this book.
Hadn't picked up a book in a long time....reading this one got me back into enjoying a good, solid, page turner. Easy read and enjoyed it immensely. For a first time author, I can tell,Ms. Jaskula knows how to write and I look forward to her next book(s).
Read this in one sitting, this kept me on the edge of my seat! This is a great read, a blend of intrigue, mystery and romance! Christie's life takes a turn when she suspects her husband of cheating. What she finds changes her life quickly and sends her on a whirlwind week of unraveling mysteries. Great novel!
This was a great read! I loved how face paced it was, always keeping me guessing. I was sure I knew the 'who dunnit' only to have another clue thrown at me. Even to the very end, I liked everyone and trusted no one. The characters were interesting and real. Highly recommend this!
Loved this book!!! It combines my favorites, romance and crime thriller. The author does an amazing job of keeping you guessing throughout the novel. A few twists and turns thrown in and lots of emotional upheaval. Christine is a crown prosecutor who is independent, smart, and strong willed but we get to see her softer, uncertain side throughout the book. I enjoyed the friends to lovers theme tied into the story and Jake makes a wonderful, strong best friend for Christine to turn to. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys crime drama with a bit of romance on the side!
Thanks to Sue Jaskula for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I started this book thinking I was going to get a steamy romance novel based on a firefighter. Instead I was treated to a murder mystery 'whodunnit'.
What I liked: - The plot sucked me in. It was fast paced and didn't let up. It also didn't leave me starving until the end for information to be revealed. Smaller reveals were sprinkled throughout. - I wouldn't necessarily say it contained a full fledged romance. It was a natural progression in the story and not the main focus. And what did develop was a realistic version of the childhood best friends to lovers trope.
What let it down: - It was glaringly obvious from the first moment the character was introduced who committed the crime. I'm notoriously bad at figuring out whodunnit so when I'm able to clock it straightaway, there's a bit of a problem. - I wasn't a big fan of Christie but I actually think that boils down to the dialogue. I felt like there was almost too much dialogue - things were said or explained so explicitly, but in a really linear A-to-B style way. And there was always so much of it at any one time that a lot of the time it felt like exposition. I guess it didn't very very natural to me.
That being said, this was a fun one to get stuck into and it was a great debut!
All fired up by Sue Jaskula was hard to put down. It was intriguing, intense and had me wondering what was going to happen next. . I was able to guess the who but couldn't figure out the why until it was explained. . I definitely enjoyed reading this
