Bestselling mystery author Juliet Bridger is the epitome of success. Her forensic mystery novels and the movies made from them have made her a multimillionaire, and she′s dated - but hasn′t fallen in love with - the same computer whiz-kid billionaire for the past five years. In other words, her life has become dull and monotonous. To spice things up (and do research for her next book at the same time) she takes a new name and a new life in small-town Wyoming. Once there, she′s surprised to discover that the ′Doc′ in town isn′t some wrinkly old man but young and fabulously stunning vet Cole Sheridan. Suddenly her masquerade starts to backfire - how can she possibly explain her web of lies when she′s fallen in love with the town - and with its vet in particular?
Always a romantic, Patti Berg spent her childhood dreaming about being whisked away by a knight in shining armor, a devil-may-care swashbuckler, s sheik on a shiny black stallion, or a broad-shouldered cowboy with a Stetson tilted low on his brow. Now she spends her days making up stories where her heroes do whatever she wants them to. Patti lives in Northern California with her husband, Rob.
This was pretty bad. I mean, yes it was published in 2003 and it would be unfair to review this from today's perspective. He forced a kiss on her, good that she liked it but what if she hadn't? You don't just go and kiss people on the street, that's sexual harassment. But I am willing to forgive these little things (though it would have been sexual harassment back in 2003 as well) because this is a romance novel world and things happen.
The main problem were one-dimensional and cliche characters that did not go through any development. They instantly fell in love without knowing anything about each other (bleh, I like the slow burn more), and even though some of the banter was great most of it was boring. So many interesting side characters unexplored, all falling flat. Usually I don’t even like side characters and their stories, but now that they were like ghosts in the background, I missed them.
There were so many possibilities to make this a great story. I mean Cole's relationship with the girls, there could have been so much more to it. Cole's relationship with his parents, so juicy yet it fell flat here. Cole's and Juliet's relationship in general and their relationship with the girls. I was waiting to see Juliet having fun with the girls, painting nails and doing hair and such girly things, (because this was 2003 romance novel and because she loved pink!) and they did some things together but it was boring. And then girls being with Cole and him being all masculine and being bad with girls but letting them paint his nails in rainbow colors and do his hair. And then taking them around the ranch in mismatched boots and letting them help him with work, and all of that ending up in a big disaster the reader could laugh about. I don’t know, something they would have done in the 90’s and early 2000.
There was way too much to the plot and too few pages. The whole story felt empty and rushed, the timespan was like two weeks...
The conversations made little sense most of the time and Cole was an asshole. It was hard to believe he actually loved the girls because his actions shoved otherwise. I mean, sure he loved them but he could have acted like he did, instead of just talking about it.

This was way too busy, but at the same time too slow. The first 150 pages are all set in one day so, unfortunately, there was no convincing me that the MCs could get a realistic HEA here. DNF.
Not much to say, another Patti Berg makes for a fun couple of hours of reading. Juliet makes a great Autumn Leeves, and who doesn't love the idea of painting a bait shop pink while wearing Jimmy Choo's? Fall in love with a handsome vet, blackmail an ass, befriend sleuthing busybodies, and stand up to your criminal ex; it takes guts to walk out on your life and find a new one.
I enjoyed this book a lot more than the last one by this author. It was the chic lit/contemporary romance that I was expecting. A novel where two people figured out that what they wanted in life isn't always what one gets and sometimes that is a good thing.
I completely loved this book. Enjoyed a lot reading Juliet 's life journey. Cole and Juliet were wonderful together and kids were sweet. This is my first read from Ms. Berg but i will definitely read more. And not to mention, Plentiful and its people were adorable!
I loved this book! Great characters - a vet, a movie star, a grumpy gas station owner, a snake, five little girls and a love-in group from the 60's. This book was too much fun!
Love this! She is trying to escape a life she no longer recognizes and runs straight into the arms of a handsome Dr. Sheridan who has 5 adorable daughters!
I HAVE TRUELY ENJOYED EVERY BOOK I HAVE READ BY PATTI BERG, THEY ARE FUNNY AND I ALWAYS GET A GOOD LAUGH WEH READING THEM. SOME MYSTERY NEVER HURTS ANYONE AND LOVE DOES NOT EITHER.
