Prior to reading this, I struggled through several other 1990s-era romance novels with overly flowery prose. Those books reminded me of why I had a negative feeling toward romance when I was a teen. This book, however, is closer to the streamlined style that is more common in our current decade. Patti Berg didn't waste any time getting to the point of her story. The love scenes, while not as graphic as erotica, didn't use euphemisms that left me wondering if the hero and heroine actually had sex. The time-travel part of the story gave me enough of the fish-out-of-water bit that I enjoy and didn't get so bogged down in science that the romance was neglected. I would give Patti Berg's work another go.

open her heart to all the possibilities
ReRd. Berg shows believable changes from 1702. Kate is annoying, frustrating, stubborn, even faced with obvious tangible proof. Flashbacks and actions show Morgan is a gallant knight. He willingly adapts to present. Casey cuddles, Evie cares -- both are one-dimensional.

Kate seldom believes Morgan Farrell. "Black Heart" is a pirate captain from 1702, proved by his jewels, weapons, outfit, (more likely baffling) speech, knowledge ... Truly evil pirate follows from the past, but Morgan will protect the girls. Except how can anyone travel time ? Or save parts ?

This was a little far-fetched in that a pirate, his ship, and enemy are all thrust 300 years into the future, just at the time and place for him to be rescued and fall in love with a young widow and her daughter. It was a sweet story, but the characters were rather flat.
