No debes interferir. 2.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss.)

“That was life: one big chain reaction, a series of sparks and explosions.
Always explosions.”

This was an interesting YA paranormal/fantasy story about a girl who could visit other people’s dreams.

Poor Dea had a really rough time in this book, the way she was so confused over what was happening, and what was going on with her mother was really difficult for her, and to be in the situation that she was in was really sad.

The storyline in this started off quite slow but morphed as the book went along, and the fantasy aspect was much stronger towards the end of the story. We did get a bit of travelling to a different world towards the end of the book even, and I liked the whole murder-mystery aspect of the storyline as well.
There was a little bit of romance in this, but not a lot, and other than a kiss this was a clean read.

The ending to this was pretty good, and we did get an ending, whilst there was still room for a sequel at some point. I’d be interested to find out what happens next if a sequel was in the works!

Dreamland is a refreshing debut book from Robert L. Anderson. The heroine is a 17 years old fatherless girl who can hack into someone else's dreams and 'walk' them. Her mother, who can also 'walk' dreams is the only one who knows the secret. The mother informs her daughter from very early on that there are a few rules about dream-walking and the pair is always on the move to escape some unknown 'monsters'.

Now, mother and daughter are temporarily living in a small town, the heroine manages to make one friend whilst other kids think she is a freak. Then a new boy comes into town, surprisingly he is nice to the heroine and then, the heroine starts breaking rules to walk the boy's dreams. All of a sudden, her mother disappears and the 'monsters' start showing up to hunt the girl down. Plus, the new boy might not be as sunny and ordinary as he first appears to be.

The idea of dream walkers in the story is a refreshing one, and the author excised this idea well, the tension is well set, the description of the dreamland and the heroine's daily life in the small town is also solidly written. I also like how the action and the mystery starting to speed up once the heroine's mother went missing. However, I found the answer to the heroine's origin and the mystery of to be a bit weak. I mean

This kinda disappointed me. I was expecting...To be honest I don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't this - especially because the synopsis says MS fans would love it and...I am a huge MS fan, but didn't love it. At all-.
The writing was nice, though.
{might reread it}

Anderson's debut novel Dreamland is an imaginative read that after only a few short chapters piqued my interest and quickly made me want to know more about Dea and what she could do as well as the dream world itself.

This turned out to be more than just a fantasy read. In fact it is woven with mystery after mystery and even became a bit creepy as Dea became more and more immersed in the dream world and all that entailed with the monsters, men, and other beings that inhabited it.

The heart of the story was in the dream world itself. In Dea's abilities and what they all meant. And while some things were explained, not everything was. I do wish the author would have spent a bit more time fleshing out the fascinating world and what it all meant, especially with the twist towards the end, but overall, this was a fun and interesting story that was perfect to read over a weekend or in a few hours in between books for something fresh and different.

The ending was a bit abrupt but I am guessing that is because this will be part of a series, considering all that was left undone and unsaid, at least, I certainly hope so.

I very much enjoyed the concept of Dreamland - and for the most part it was a sound, enjoyable and engaging read, probably my favourite thing about it was the imagery - the dreamscape Robert L Anderson creates is clever and atmospheric, the portions of the tale where Dea is walking dreams had a great depth to them, occasionally very shiver inducing.

The plotting is intriguing, a "girl meets boy" fairly standard tale with a twist, as Dea breaks all the dreamwalking rules and creates rifts it was very fascinating and pretty addictive. For me though it fell down towards the end, the resolution if you like didnt really appeal to me, not because it was badly thought out but it felt like there should be a lot more to know. I was left with a feeling it was incomplete - if this was/is the start of a series it would work much better, but this is unclear. If this is a standalone, for this reader it did not satisfy as a complete story.

Having said that, the writing is excellent, there are some little twists of fate in there that are very clever, characterisation is great, loved Dea and the rest - plus there is a mystery layer thrown in that worked within the wider dream theme very well.

A good read. I kind of hope that there will be more. If there is I will be reading it.

This book sounded so interesting to me when I read the synopsis. The world was very intriguing, but there were so many other things about this book that I did not like :/ I didn't really like the characters they were just"okay". I did like Toby the cat though lol :p

I went into this book blind, without knowing what to expect and boy it sure was creepy at times. The mystery aspect of this book is what kept me interested. Other than that, I just really did not enjoy it. The author made fun of Christians in this book, which may not bother some people, but it just made me dislike this book even more :/ There are several other things that I did not like, but it would take a while to list them all. So I really cannot tell you if you would like this book, but personally, I would not recommend this to anyone I know..

Read the entire review at Such a Novel Idea!

I received a copy of this book via the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion in any way.

Wow wow WOW! That seriously took my breath away and the end gave me simultaneous goosebumps and prickly tears. To assert such a physical reaction is why this book is truly deserving of the elusive 5 star rating.

I love the 'parts' of this book because they were timed out so well and gave the reader exactly what they needed in the story. There was a topsy-turvy ethereal quality to the book that just made you feel like you were exploring your own dream land.

Rarely does a book leave me wondering how things will end, but at 95%, I still had no idea. And I don't think I could have predicted a better ending (because I was seriously trying to).

Full review closer to release date, but in the meantime, this is going on my favorites of 2015 list!

I received this book for free through GoodReads FirstReads competitions.

This book features the fascinating Odea Donahue who has been able to travel through people's dream since she was just 6 years old. She follows her mothers rules about walking in dreams until there is a new boy Connor in town. She opens up to him and begins to wonder whether she should tell him about walking through dreams. Then for the first time Odea breaks the rules and suddenly the boundary between the dreamland and the real world, she finds herself not sure of what is real and what is dream.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was absolutely completely addicted to the novel, I just couldn't put it down. The way that the author uses the words he has carefully picked opens up the readers mind and makes the images vivid, almost like it is happen too you. The descriptions he uses for Odea make her seem extremely realistic and like you are reading a biography, even though the thought of walking through dreams seems far-fetched it feels like that it could be real.
This is a unique book, I have never read a book like this before but I would definitely read more like this and read more by this author. There are some rather chilling moments, which made me grip onto the pages and not let it go. I can tell this is a book that I will read many times and pass on to people so they can also enjoy it. I truly loved this book and I am so happy that I got to read this novel.

Dreamland never quite manages to live up to its awesome premise. I enjoyed the style of the dream sequences and just how imaginative the author's writing style is. Unfortunately, I didn't particularly care one way or the other about the cast - about Dea or Connor - so the stakes and the romance never quite hit with me. Also I just want to say that I have been to one of the largest corn mazes several times here in Ohio. It's 8 acres and it's tricky. Only seasoned corn maze runners should attempt it without a rescue flag.

Odea has always followed the 3 rules of dream walking: Never interfere with someones dream, never be seen and never walk the same person's dream twice or the monsters will find you. Dea and her mother, Miraiam, constantly move from town to town to escape the monsters. Then she meets a boy named Connor and breaks all 3 of these rules at once, unleashing the monsters.

I think the concept of the book was very intriguing and I liked the creepy atmosphere the dream world provided. The beginning of the story pulled me in and I was very interested in the mystery of the dream walking and Connor's past. However, the middle and ending left me a bit disappointed. Although I was still entertained while reading. I really liked Dea's character and following her during her walks but I wanted to know more - at times it felt like the world building was lacking. Connor was a good love interest and I liked trying to figure out the murder mystery surrounding his past. Gollum, Dea's best friend was my favourite character though. She was such a fun character and I wish we saw more of her!

Overall, it was entertaining and I enjoyed it while I read it!

I picked up Dreamland five separate times, read a few pages and then put it down. I haven't been in the mood for anything but contemporaries for a few weeks now and I knew that I was either going to love this one or end up getting annoyed with it and not finishing it. Thankfully I loved it. I say thankfully because Dreamland is truly unique and something different in YA.

I am going to do this review a little differently. Let's start out with what I wasn't crazy about. I LOVED everything in this book. I wished that Dream Walking took up more of the story line. Robert had a lot of ways to go with this book and though I found the Dream Worlds and walking interesting I wished that it was more focused on that. The only time we see the Dream World is towards the end when Dea is finally about to find her mother and figure out who killed Connor's mother. It was interesting and unique. I've never seen anything like the world in Dreamland. I am hoping for a book 2 and if that is the case I hope Robert focuses more on the Dream World in it.

Now that all the bad stuff is out of the way lets get along with the positives because there are a lot of them. I really liked Dea's character. Being bullied myself when I was younger I enjoyed seeing Dea being able to keep her head high. I was especially happy she had at least one friend though. Even if it was just during school. When Connor first entered the story I figured he was going to lead Dea on then learn about her from the other students and leave her. But he didn't. I LOVE that he stayed with Dea and Gollum. But he is also an outcast due to his mother and baby brother's murder years earlier. A crime many think he committed.

This book does have a creepy side. I am not going to lie when I say the faceless men from Connor's dreams didn't freak me out. Or the mirrors. Or clocks. It all tied in with the story well. As I said above I loved the Dream World and I would have loved to learn more about. But it is a very creative idea. Overall I do recommend this book. It is a paranormal that will keep you guessing onto the very last page. The ending seemed open, so I am hoping that means there is a possibility for another book to Dreamland.

ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Dea lives in a small town with her mother. Kids at school avoid her, because they find Dea and her mother to be too weird. They’re not wrong. Dea’s mother is always antsy. Dea has been to tons of schools, because her mother always moves them to a new town. They just pack up and leave like there is always someone chasing after them. Her mother also has weird antics. Mirrors are banned. There are always tons of locks on their doors. Clocks.

Dea has one friend in school, Gollum. Her real name is Eleanor, but they all call her Gollum. Kids are mean. One day, a boy named Connor moves to the house close to Dea’s home. He’s handsome and funny, so Dea is automatically attracted to him. She’s hesitant to get close to him at first, because she knows all the rumors said about her. She doesn’t want to get her hopes up with Connor; but Connor is a really nice guy. He doesn’t care about all the rumors, because there are rumors about him too.

Dea has a secret. Dea was six years old, the first time she ever walked a dream. She was sick a lot back then, she had an irregular heartbeat, but the first time she walked someone’s dream, her heart beat normally. There are rules when dream walking; rules that should never be broken.
1. Don’t change anything or intervene in a person’s dream
2. Don’t walk the same person’s dream more than once
3. Never ever be seen

But Dea broke all these rules when she met Connor. Faceless men haunted Connor’s dreams. Connor’s baby brother and mother were murdered when he was little. He never saw who murdered them, because he was hiding in the closet, but he did hear their voices.

This story is full of mystery. I kept reading because I wanted to understand more about everything going on, and I wanted to learn all the answers to my questions.

I was so interested in the land of dreams, and I wish the author explored that concept a bit more. I was just fascinated with it, so I was disappointed when I didn’t get to read more about it.

Overall, this book was an interesting read that will make readers want to dream and explore.

What an interesting and different read. Dream walker. Lots of secrets. Lots of intertwined plot lines. It had me trying to figure things out and coming up empty. What's real? What's a dream? Good stuff.

This one's in third persona and it's not my favorite. But the good news is that I ended up feeling connected to the characters anyway. I think the mystery of this read is increased by the third person writing style.

I liked Dea and Connor. Dea's always been the strange one no matter where her mother moves her to. She only fits in with the other castaways from high school. That aspect of her personality makes her relatable to anyone who's ever felt like they don't belong. Then she has this secret that's almost as powerful as Harry Potter's was. And her secret takes her on a journey. One that's full of monsters and hard choices but one that helps her help a friend and figure out who she is. I enjoyed that.

I liked Connor a lot. His secret is less mysterious though the real story doesn't really come out till the end. I loved that he gravitated towards the misfits. That he accepted Dea for who she was. That he was honest and real with her. I loved that he stuck by her even when things were weird. He's a great guy.

I wonder about the ending. It is an ending but it could be more. I wouldn't mind if it was more.

This is something different. Something that gets you thinking. It's also something sweet. I enjoyed it.

There were a few sections where my mind wandered but overall, really interesting.

I really enjoyed Dreamland by Robert L. Anderson. It was interesting and different and it went places that I didn't expect. I didn't know all that much about the book before I picked it up and I kind of liked that too.

Dreamland is the story of Dea Donahue, this teenage girl who lives with her mother and has this unusual gift of being able to enter other people's dreams. Her mother tells Dea there are three rules to dream walking. 1) Don't interfere with the dreams. 2) Don't be seen. 3) Don't walk the same person's dream more than once.

But then a new boy, Connor, shows up and their friendship is something that Dea has never had before and so she starts breaking the dream rules and now the separation between reality and the dream world is starting to deteriorate.

Honestly, Dreamland was such an exciting book to read. At first it felt very similar to the trilogy of books by Lisa McMann (Wake, Fade and Gone) which I loved and was a basis for me picking up this book to read but I loved the way Robert L. Anderson took this story in an entirely different direction. Dea was a great character and I loved being inside her idea and exploring both the relationship with her mother and also seeing what Connor's friendship means to her.

And everything that happens in these dream worlds was fun too. My mind wander on some of the really descriptive elements of the dreams but overall I found it very fascinating unravelling the mysteries this book throws at the reader: how and why can Dea walk dreams? What has happened to Dea's mother? What is stored in Connor's memories and dreams of his childhood?

I loved how all the different strands of this story come together and as I mention, a lot of was unexpected. I think it takes a lot for me to be surprised by a book but Dreamland definitely surprised me. Such a fun and unusual concept for a book and I highly recommend it!

Okay, this was an awesome read for me. I have always had a fascination about dreams and to think of being able to do what the MC does??!! Definitely in for that.......

description

More to come as this has a lot to say about it and I'm still toying with five stars. The characters all have so much uniqueness about them to offer some great character thoughts. The location, surroundings and the great atmospheric feel from how the author described things without it being stagnant descriptions, but vivid, murky, suspenseful and always questioning where it was going keeping the story moving along and never bogged down boring. It was fantastic! Loved it and my first Harper Teen read so I'm a very happy reader right now.

More to come and in the meantime, many thanks to #HarperCollinsPublishing #HarperTeen and of course the author Robert L. Andersonfor the ARC of this book ----> Dreamland by Robert L. Anderson Fantastically written!!

Robert L. Anderson leads us into the world where dreams can come true. But it's also a world where monsters from your worst nightmares can hunt you down in real life.

Dea is a dreamwalker(gets energy from dreams), living in a small town with her mother and their dog. She only has one friend and everyone else judges her because both her and her mom are a bit strange. Everything changes when a mysterious boy, Connor, moves close by. His mother and little brother were murdered when he was just a kid and everyone thinks he was the one to pull the trigger.

I really didn't care much about Connor and his back story because I figured out who the murderer was pretty early. I wanted to know more about the dream world and the strange kingdom. All scenes where Dea was dreamwalking were so vivid; I could imagine being a part of them and exploring them with Dea. I really hope this is not a standalone and author continues to develop the world and Dea's powers even more.

Everyone who's looking for an exciting new paranormal story with a scary factor should read Dreamland.

This story started off well, but about halfway through I got bored and it became reading just so I could finish and move on to a different book. A few points about it:

1) I feel like the author tried to do too much in one book. There ended up being like three different main story lines combined, and it left the last few chapters feeling rushed and unsatisfying.

2) The characters aren't that great. The main character's talent is very cool, but other than that she was just sort of.. Bleh. I didn't dislike her, but I didn't really like her, either. Same goes for everyone else in the story. No one really stands out.

3) I think that's it.

Overall, not a fantastic read, but not a terrible one, either. 2 stars.

Odea is a pretty unique name (and if I'm pronouncing right, unfortunately quite similar to the word "odious"), so I googled it and apparently it means "Walker by the road" in Greek. Considering her character can "travel through people's dreams" (says the blurb), it fits really well.

I know what you're up to, Robert.
