An unexpected attraction draws straight-laced, aristocratic wedding planner Lauren Remington to rugged Max Wilde, a dangerous, streetwise man from the wrong side of the tracks, after she enlists his aid in saving her business. Original.
Always a romantic, Patti Berg spent her childhood dreaming about being whisked away by a knight in shining armor, a devil-may-care swashbuckler, s sheik on a shiny black stallion, or a broad-shouldered cowboy with a Stetson tilted low on his brow. Now she spends her days making up stories where her heroes do whatever she wants them to. Patti lives in Northern California with her husband, Rob.
Born to Be Wild by Patti Berg is the second book of the contemporary romance Remington Family series. Each book of this series features a new main couple so they can be read and understood fine as a standalone if choosing to do so.
After a few failed relationships Lauren Remington had given up on finding a love of her own and decided to get into the business of wedding planning. However, when she is short a caterer for a high society wedding happening in a few days she thinks her career may be cut short.
Max Wilde is definitely not a part of the high society crowd but years ago his path had crossed with Lauren's and he had thought they had a connection. Lauren however had proceeded to marry someone else and forget all about Max, that is until their paths crossed yet again when she finds Max is the only caterer available for the wedding she is planning.
Born to Be Wild was a bit of a second chance romance with characters that are definitely from different sides of the tracks as they say. Lauren to me could be a little overly annoying with her snobbishness that she didn't even believe she had but on the other hand it was nice to show a man that was a lot more than just a biker that he showed on the outside. With a great male lead and some funnier moments this one turned into a decent read in the end.
This is a cute rom-com. I really liked both characters, but Max especially. He was so many contradictory things: a biker, a chef, a foster parent. It really gave his character depth. I liked too that they had encountered each other once before the story started. It made their separate histories feel real. The ending was a little too pat, particularly the way he found his long-lost sister, but on the whole, still a fun read.
This is not the sort of book I would normally read but it was free so I thought I would give it a try. I would really give it 2 1/2 stars but bumped up because I felt guilty. It's an engaging fluffy, clean romance with no real angst, no cursing and minimal tastefully done sex scenes. It's actually a very well written entertaining story, and people who enjoy sweet romances will probably love it.
I was surprised to find that I liked Lauren more than I liked Max. I definitely have a hard time identifying with egocentric, shopaholic socialites; but Laura was refreshingly honest, she didn't play games, she said what she meant and she meant what she said, she had some insight into her moral defects and expressed a genuine desire to strive to be a better person (even though the actual "whys" and 'hows" of that pretty much escaped her.
Max on the other hand annoyed me a bit. Yes he was overall a nice, decent, caring, moral upstanding guy but on a couple of occasions I wanted to smack him - hard.
So in conclusion a well done, sweet romance between 2 nice people that had about as much sexual chemistry as 2 heads of cabbage - in my humble opinion.
This was a solid book with its ups and downs. One of the ups was that the book was realistic to what a real relationship would be like with balancing work, family, and feelings. There was no insurmountable obstacle in the couple's way. It was just two people figuring out how to be together and whether the growing pains of their relationship was worth it. In the down side the book lacked any rising action to pull a reader in and make me want to continue reading. There were some obvious places that could have helped that issue too like showing Lauren and Max's kids relationship grow beyond "not actively trying to ruin any possible relationship" or there could have been a touching scene where Lauren interacted with some kids at the hole in the wall. It was also unsatisfying to watch Lauren break down over having to change herself for max when max never asked or pressured her to dress like she did and she had originally put on that outfit for herself. Overall this book could have used some tlc in what should have and what should not have been included but it was still an ok read although I doubt I'll ever want to read it again.
Lauren is a wealthy woman with two failed marriages behind her. She meets and is attracted to Max a caterer who is a very good man. He tries to help youngsters who are homeless or mistreated at home. He has taken in two foster children and is in the process of adopting them.
Much of the story is about Lauren's anxiety about being seen in public with someone beneath her station in life.
This is a very well written romance. The plot is well developed with many interesting twists and turns. The characters are well developed. Lauren at first seems to be someone that is so very superficial that it is hard to imagine any warmth emanating from her.
Later on in the book, we see she does have a good and generous heart and is bright enough to have great ideas about helping others. It just took me awhile to feel connected to Lauren as a heroine. Max is another story. He is a warm and caring person who spreads himself thin to do the best for everyone around him.
Patti Berg is such a talented writer and I enjoy her books. I believe that any romance reader will enjoy this story.
This was SOOO unsatisfying. I liked it but it wasn't satisfying (if that make sense)
They met bc Lauren needed a caterer and Max happened to be a caterer. The first few hours of them meeting Max was already caressing Lauren's face. The next day they were already kissing. Who tf falls in love in days, literally less than 24 hours of being together. Then the wedding happened on Saturday the third time they've met and Max already had the guts to be jealous and Lauren was already confessing her love. The next day Lauren left without saying anything for a week and when she came back called Max and said sorry she was already forgiven, like she didn't leave him with a lot of baggages just because she was "confused". So long story short the story happened in I guess less than a month I think?
I guess it was unsatisfying because it all happened too quickly. I kind of read books shorter than this but was written satisfyingly. But overall I did enjoy this so...
This was a great book and I had a lot of fun reading it. I remember reading Born To Be Wild when it first came out and I enjoyed it a ton then also. Honestly, I didn't have high hopes for my second reading of it. My tastes have changed so much and most books I attempt to reread just don't do it for me. That is most definitely NOT the case with this one. I love Patti Bergs books. And I highly recommend Born To Be Wild.
Born to be Wild was entertaining. There were highs and lows to the story. I wish more time had been spent on the search for his sister and brother, it almost felt like that was just thrown in there. I wasn't fond of them calling her "snob" and then saying but it's just you, that gave less depth to her character and made her seem childish and silly rather than an adult who was exploring herself and trying to stand on her own two feet. The writing was good and I think that's what kept this from falling over into the "not worth reading" category.
Yes, I am red faced and have a silly smirk on my face as I give this free Kindle book FIVE stars. Very sweet Romance about a couple from two different walks of life. Can they make it work? Is she too snooty? Will he be accepted? Easy reading..."take me away, Calgon" book. The 5 stars given because it was such an easy read. I enjoyed a few hours cuddled under an afghan with some coffee and this book.
Adored this book. It was a cute, fast paced read. I loved how independent Lauren was; trying to make something of herself despite being born to wealth and not needing to. And I adored how determined Max was; not riding on his foster father's coattails and really building himself up based on his talent alone. The one thing I did not like is that this book is at least the second in a series, but is not listed as such. I will definitely read more by this author!

Born to be Wild was a good read the characters were likable the story seemed to start off as one thing but turned into another as it went along, it seemed to be that way with character personalities too. it didn't take away from the story or my liking it but consistency isn't found too much. if you can get past that the story can be enjoyed.
I almost didn't read this book. I read the first chapter then put it down to read another book. I don't read a lot of contemporaries, but decided to give it another try. I'm glad I did. I ended up really enjoying this book.
