Detective Rob Miller #3

The Bisley Wood Murders

Rate this book
One girl disappears. And there’s a link to an unsolved disappearance close to home.

Katie Wells goes missing on her way to school. Her pink backpack is found weighed down with stones in a local reservoir. Time is running out to find her, and every second counts.

Acting DCI Rob Miller leads a nationwide search, but no trace of the little girl is found.

Meanwhile, Detective Jo Maguire from the National Crime Agency notices striking similarities to her own sister’s disappearance twenty years ago.

Jo's relationship with Rob is deepening, but they don’t have time to figure things out. Maybe Jo's sister was the killer's first victim. And maybe he never stopped.

Now, a body is discovered and the public holds its breath. Is it Katie?

Rob and Jo might just have a serial killer on their hands . . .

The plot is very clever and I think it’s well written. A few anomalies with weather/flowers in season etc. A little more care could be taken. One thing really gets to me - NO ONE could leave a Labrador, or in fact any dog, alone for the amount of time Rob does! Please please please get some doggy day care!
Can’t concentrate on the plot when I’m worrying about the dog!
Otherwise! Well done, I am about to read the 4th book in this set and Hope Trigger is provided for.

“Stupendous -Awe-Inspiring and just brilliant!”
I just love these books and each story just gets better and better and better and I just love the writing style and the way you so easily get straight into the story! This series is addictive, believable and is “by the seats of your pants read!”
The start of the book is the best staring as it grabs your interest immediately drawing you into the story the killer and then Rob Miller and his team. The intricate beginning describes perfectly the what should have been the perfect day had it not been for the death of an innocent girl being laid to rest in a clearing scented with wildflowers beneath the shadows from the trees. This is about a child killer who believes he has done something noble and somehow saved her giving her peace and righted a wrong; ended suffering. He is clearly very mad! Great right to the end “best one yet!”

The descriptive is just so perfect you can visualize the scenes being described throughout the book and the story just flows along capturing the events as Rob gets nearer and nearer to getting his man.
I was in awe and captivated throughout reading this story, just brilliantly written and one of the best plots I’ve read for ages and ages and deserves the highest praise. “A MUST Read!”

This is the 3rd book in the DCI Rob Miller series. Having read and really enjoyed books 1 and 2, I was delighted to be provided with an ARC of book 3 by the Author. This book is my favourite. I loved it. DCI Rob Miller is dispatched to a home where a young girl is missing, having failed to reach school one morning. What is thought to be an abducted child case turns out to be much more. The Author did a phenomenal job telling the story in this book. I hope we have book 4 very soon. The opinion expressed here is my own. Read this series. I highly recommend it. Publication date is September 24, 2020.

Fast-paced! Riveting! Emotional! Suspenseful! Compelling! Complex! This book brings it ALL! It was an artful melding of twisted psychological thrills and nail-biting suspense. THIS is how you keep a series fresh and exciting and keep a reader coming back for more!

*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

The Bisley Wood Murders by Biba Pearce
is the third in the Detective Rob Miller series.

Okay, I'm beginning to see why so many people like this series.  My biggest complaints with the previous two books was the depiction of women as sex objects.  This one was a little different, although misogyny was still an issue.

The thing I did like about the first books were the plots.

The storyline for this book was even better.  It was laid out really well,  flowed perfectly, and held my interest from start to finish.  Yes, it was fairly predictable, but it was good.

I'm happy that the whole romance angle has narrowed down to just two participants.  The progression was as expected.  Enough said.

So overall,  this was a fast and easy read, with a great plot.   I am finally enjoying this series, and actually look forward to Book 4.

Anyway, until next time....

Excellent book and great follow up on the previous one. I am happy the personal aspect took a backseat and the murder and disappearance investigation definitely were on the front page in this one.

The topic is pretty brutal as we are looking at murders of teenage girls, 14 years old ones. And this has been happening for a long time.

We also have the desperate call of mother that finds herself at the end of her rope.

Although the ending was not surprising, I am looking forward to see how that will play out in the next books.

Third times the treat

This in my mind was the best yet full of surprise, mis-direction and soul searching detail . A very sad subject handled carefully to enlighten us as much as entertain in this mad world we live in now
They are all worth a read , although all linked by the team the novels stand alone as excellent thrillers and I’m up for many more good work B.L Pearce

Never disappoints.

This is a fantastic and realistic police procedural. BL Pearce has created a wonderful cast of characters that keep developing more through each book. Every scene is written in a way that you can truly picture the setting. Looking forward to book 4.

DI Rob Miller is back now acting DCI and dating his NCA colleague DCI Jo Maguire after ending his marriage to Yvette.

But the pair don't have much time to bask in their new relationship. As Rob is about to take on his biggest case yet. As eleven-year-old Katie Wells has disappeared on her way to school and Rob has been put in charge of finding her. And he soon has his first piece of evidence when her backpack is found weighted down in the local reservoir.

However, this opens a can of worms. As Jo's sister Rachel disappeared twenty years ago in Manchester in similar circumstances. With her backpack later found weighted down. And she's not the only one, and as the pressure mounts; more missing girls are identified. Then bones are found and so is Katie.

But what does Katie's disappearance have to do with bones found and who is killing these girls?

And with a fast-paced, twisty storyline. This was a terrific read. That I genuinely couldn't put down and I would definitely recommend it and the series to crime fiction fans everywhere!

Action and adventure captivate you from the start. Suspense keeps you turning the pages along with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Warning once you start reading, you may find it hard to put down. If you're a fan of a great suspense mystery, you don't want to miss this one. The characters are engaging, strong and well developed. The story line is well thought out, described very well and well written.

Well, B L Pearce, certainly knows how to get you going!!!!! Such a sad, sad story!! I've tried to imagine how I would feel if a child of mine went missing, and not knowing where they are, but I can't, it's too much to even think about!! But this book certainly makes you do that!! For DCI Rob Miller and his team, it's their job to find out!! So brilliantly researched, and written, that I cannot wait for the 4th book!! Superb!!

Easy to read

Unpleasant back stories, but no blood and gore. Just carefully put together. Some irritating wrong words, e.g. turnstile, when stile would be the correct word. And a couple of other oddities, but didn’t really detract from the book. Hoping for another in the series.

Righteous Anger: A frantic hunt for a child killer is the third book in the DCI Rob Miller series and is the best one... so far.

This book is well written and depicts every parent's nightmare; the disappearance of their child. Can Rob Miller and his team find the person responsible? This story had me glued to the pages from start to finish.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

Really very good book. Having a child go missing is horrible and what a parent is willing to do to find them. Story leads you one way than takes a totally different surprising turn. Could not put book down, worth reading.

Another brilliant British thriller, there may be some triggers for some readers as it does involve the kidnapping and murder of young girls. I really enjoy reading this author, she has a wonderful way of telling a story that keeps the reader mesmerized from start to finish.

An easy and pleasant read. I seem to enjoy this series more with each book. This was an enjoyable story and I am really liking the characters. There is angst (as usual) for the lead characters but in these books, it doesn’t overwhelm them or their duties to up hold the law.

The odd bit stretches one’s imagination but then again, it IS fiction.

Laid to rest.

A young girl doesn't make it to school - she was ten minutes late, so her friend didn't wait after five, cos their teacher required punctuality.
Forty minutes later, the school ring her mother, Lisa, who panics, makes calls to friends-no luck so she phones the police and so it begins.
A police search begins, her rucksack is found in a local lake, weighed down by a large stone.
No sign of the missing child.
DCI Rob Miller is appointed SIO, he tells his girlfriend, NCA officer Jo Mcguire about the case. Jo is immediately interested in the case. Her sister Rachel went missing when they were in their teens, she had never been found. But HER rucksack had - weighed down with a large stone in a local body of water.
Could it be the same killer, Rachel had died twenty years ago, was he still killing? She died in Manchester, the latest case was in Surrey.
Coincidence or not?
The first police search turned up nothing other than the rucksack, when the K9 unit was used they found one body, but the dogs wouldn't settle. Their chief handler decided to go back next day, just in case the dogs were onto something.
They were four more bodies were found close to the first.
Then a wrist, the original missing girl, Katie Wells, turns up alive and well.
Four of the bodies are identified, but the fifth is unknown.
Jo is convinced more than ever that her sister was a victim of this killer. When did he change his killing ground?
Tony, Rob's profiler friend, states it could easily be the same murderer. He thinks the killer may have begun as a teenager. Having witnessed abuse to someone close to him, was that Rachel?
Jo unofficially joins Rob's team and reads through her old copies of Rachel's case files, she remembers a geeky creepy kind of boy her sister was friendly with - not the popular type of lad she usually hung out with.
Mind you Rachel had changed a lot during her last few months - staying in, not hanging out with her friends, subdued instead of bubbly. What had happened to make her change?
What did they all have in common? Why did they have to die? No obvious injuries, all buried with respect in beauty spots close to the site of their disappearance.
Very good read, killer not revealed until the end, plenty of red herrings along the way.

Absolutely magnificent

Wow wow and double wow, well Biba Pearce certainly knows how to really pull you into one of her books, I was hooked from the first chapter. It was a real twist and turn book it started out as one missing vile who was found. Will not say more on that. A certain women who's daughter went missing some four years previously thought the police let her down by not investigating her daughter's disappearance better. Her husband being Iranian left her on the same night so it made sense he has talented daughter with him however Tess did not believe that as he didn't have much time I with the daughter as they need and only want sons the investigating officer could not get anyone at the embassy to confirm or deny it the daughter was in iran, the missing girls mounted all disappeared in summer circcustances . However they could only hypothesis what clinched a couple was how and where they found a read of the back packs. Which Mallory girlfriends sister disappears 25 years ago her back pack was found in the same way but surely not from 25 years could it be a serial kilker, one he'll of a book that really did have myself captivated from start to finish . Not just a captivated book but I was extremely impressed not just with the actual stoy. But the way overwritten with detail burning over doing it it's actually hard I think now days to find a new author Jeremy favourites are still writing there new book to be released so I wanted to find something and someone who could hold my attention. I can assure you Biba Pearce certainly did thst. She's just shot to going my favourites. Amazing a must must-read I am going to look and find every book that Bibs as written. Bloody amazing ,
