It’s been a hot minute since I’ve sunk my teeth into a good vampire tale (#vampirepun), and where better to dive back into the bloody kingdom of the vampiric undead than the Big Easy with all it’s spicy and sinful mystery. The wolf queen, Kayleigh King, expands her PNR repertoire with this stylish and mysterious take on the King Vampires. We have a broody, cold, and dominant vampire king, who, of course, has that classic inner struggle, the battle between his long buried humanity and his dark and dangerous urges. His once dead heart now beats for his new human employee- the sassy woman he coerced into his service, our spunky heroine Quincey, the real star of this story. Unwillingly thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the vampires, she somehow emerges as the strongest and most self-possessed character. And certainly the most realized. She’s resilient and tough as nails but also kind and authentic. Nothing seems to phase her- not the danger, not her steamy slow burn chemistry with Silas, and certainly not the interesting motley crew of mysterious secondary characters. She made this book for me, and I’m quickly learning that Kayleigh King has a keen ability in creating endearing and empathetic sassy heroines.

Their chemistry did take a while to sink in for me if I’m being honest- in part because the narrative structure includes a lot of diverting secondary characters and background action, which means our hero and heroine don’t spend ample time together until we’re well into the story. The tension is beautifully created, but the connection feels much slower, and their chemistry ultimately felt less emotively tethered and more carnal- still delicious, but not fully complex as of yet. Silas has all that growly possessive flair I love in a PNR story though, and Quincey gives him amble sass, and me craving more of them together to deepen the connection is certainly an indication of there being something interesting there to explore.

Those new to KK will be introduced to her immersive and picturesque writing style. She’s a highly descriptive writer- which makes for a really stylistically visual as well as incredibly meta story. As someone who appreciates truly embodying characters’ heads, I have a lot of appreciation for this style of prose, but I know for some this may make the pace of the action seem more slowly meted. Like her prior books, this book is as much mystery and suspense as it is romance, and both unfold at an unhurried pace befitting the vibe of our setting. The romance is equally balanced with danger and suspense from the world they inhabit. Kayleigh invests heavily in this element, with a lighter touch on the vampire world canon, but the suspense plays nicely with the setting and mirrors the pace and tenor of our romance. And, beware that once things start to really pick up, the story catapults in a cliffhanger ending. I’m looking forward to seeing where Kayleigh takes this series next.

Silas MF Laurent!

Mr. Laurent is King and he's got that King BDE. Add in some secrets, a kidnapping, some staff that make you laugh and make you cry. Kayleigh wrote a great story that had me falling in love with PNR all over again and reaffirms that I do love me some vampires!

*First time reading author
** KU Read

Bloody Kingdom is the first book from Kayleigh King that I have read and I couldn't put it down. Although it was a slow start for me I am so happy I didn't give up on it. Salis is a vampire that rules with an iron fist. But there is one person (human) that is not afraid of him and that is Quincy (love the name for a girl). These two have instant chemistry and it keeps the story going.

If anyone is looking for a PNR story this is it. I highly recommend it, just remember the second book isn't out yet. And I am waiting on pins and needles for it!

This has all the usual pieces for this genre - broody alpha with a broken heart and strong female with a snarky mouth but a caretaker. There’s sexual tension and detailed scenes after a slow burn. However, the story didn’t stand out. There’s very little to make this different than any of the other stories out there, especially vampire stories. Then the book ended on a cliffhanger, which was also unsurprising.

Okay I liked this more than I thought I would. There were so many small snippets from the book that just reminded me of an adult and darker version of Twilight, and I loved it. I was so confused why Quincey was abducted, but once you know the real reason by the end of the book it just will pull at your heartstrings. The chemistry and tension between Quincey and Silas was amazing, and I loved that Quincey was not afraid to stand up to Silas. I also loved all the side characters in the book. Overall a really great read.

It's a solid story but I really resent the huge cliffhanger and the "tease": 'Find out what happens in the next volume.'

Really rude. And, no, I will not follow the bait to the next book.

This reminded me of all my favorite vampire books. From Twilight, the Southern Vampire Mysteries Series, and Interview with a vampire. I was simple but entertaining.

I read this incredibly fast.

Damn Kayleigh king slayed this!

Suspense, wit, humor a compassionate h, a broody vampire, and a whole lot of steam, Bloody Kingdom has it all.
I was captivated from the start.
A fast paced story that'll leave you gasping, and no point disappoints.

I HIGHLY recommend Bloody Kingdom, but there is a cliffy of epic proportions (but it's so worth it), so be warned.

Wasn't sure what this book was going to be about as I went in blind and I found myself really enjoying it and as someone who these days isn't that big on paranormal/supernatural romance anymore, this meant that this was a great read. Set in New Orleans, we meet Quincy who's an orphan and has moved back home after she thought she was cursed as a nurse when she lived in Boston. Quincy's father was a gambler and racked up debt and of course, it landed on Quincy when he died, now she has to find the money fast otherwise Gallo's men will come for her. Meanwhile, Quincy has caught the eye of someone else very successful in New Orleans - Silas who happens to be a centuries-old Vampire. He needs a nurse as his companion is dying and in need of palliative care and he wants the best which is Quincy. Now Quincy owes Silas and has no choice otherwise he would happily hand her over to Gallo, who makes Silas be the lesser of two evils. I enjoyed this book as it had romantic suspense, danger, and adventure as well as a paranormal /supernatural storyline. I am now looking forward to seeing what the next book is like in this series and I also hope we see a romance blossom between Lucy who is Quincy's best friend and Duke - Silas's right-hand man. Reading this I also enjoyed traveling down memory lane and reminiscing the time I visited New Orleans in 2017.

If you like dark alpha vampires and stubborn heroines who don't back down, then this is for you.
Quincy is stuck with her fathers debt & when they come to collect in another way thats not monetary Quincy finds herself kidnaped by Silas who has another way for her to pay off her debt. Being forced to work for Silas Quincy finds a world she didn't know existed & that theres more to Silas than just his gruff exterior. Silas never lets his guard down, specially for a human, but the more time Silas is in Quincy's company the more he can't help but let her in. But someone is coming after him & his business & if he doesn't find put who it is quickly he will lose everything, including the human that is capturing his heart.

Kayleigh weaves a steamy, dark love story that will keep you engaged right up the frustrating cliff hanger. Once I started was hooked. Loved the chemistry between Silas & Quincy. Kayleigh has written another great series, can't wait to see where it goes.

I was kindly given an arc of this book by the author.

So I thought I loved The White Wolf Prophecy series. And I do, but I love this more!

I loved everything about Quincy and Silas. I loved Ira and Della and Duke. I loved the banter and the tension between Silas and Quincy.

I loved the setting. I think the only things I didn’t like about the book were how long the spicy scenes took. I would have liked to have them a little sooner, but I also get the reason for the angst. And the second thing was the ending because like WTF Kayleigh??? Now how long do I have to wait for book two!

I own TWWP in paperback and I can’t wait to order this book when it is released.

DNF at 30%. I’m falling asleep here. I don’t know if this is a slow burn but there’s literally nothing happening and I just can’t go on any longer after 30% into the book. Totally bums me out because I’m obsessed with vampire romance. 😩

It’s getting hot in heree, so take off all your clothes! Holy smut-a-rolly, I can now officially cross “vampire smut” off my 2024 bingo card. Please please listen to the audiobook; the voice actor of Silas is positively earth-shaking.

In Bloody Kingdom (set in New Orleans and about vampires I got allll the True Blood vibes) we get the enemies to lovers trope, complete with the too-sassy-for-her-own-good heroine who, literally one day after being kidnapped, is firing away sarcastic insults and eye rolls like she doesn’t care if she lives or dies. So yes, you’re going to have to suspend disbelief a bit in terms of her reactions to things like large, imposing strangers making death threats. Though, I think the writing of the internal dialogue for both characters does a good job of establishing their personalities and beliefs, so when they do/say things it’s not completely out of character. It’s just unrelatable to the reader at times.

Silas is daddy. I loved the character development from Mr. ultra-serious, dark and mysterious to Mr. Pussy-whipped, “If anyone touches you I will set the world on fire.” We love to see it! (Although the meme of “if a man said this to me in real life I’d laugh in his face” echoed in my brain sometimes when Silas said things like “I don’t get what I want. I take what I want. No one who crosses me walks away breathing.” In a book: yes ofc, wow what a sexy man. In real life: uhhhhh okay I’m calling the cops.) Regardless, I’m a shameless “he’s brooding and serious but she brings sunlight and joy into his life and now he can’t live without her” fan, and this book was exactly that.

And let me tell you: SPICE was SPICING. I liked how the spice was purposeful and drove the plot forward. Sometimes spicy books read like they wrote the sex scenes first and developed the plot after, but not this one. I really did feel their connection throughout these scenes and I loved the dialogue as well. Not cringey at all, and actually really romantic. I was blushin and crushin.

Critiques and espoilersss:

I really couldn’t deal with the fact that Quincey experienced multiple sexual assaults and was completely fine?? During the scenes, of course, she expresses fear and disgust but afterwards there’s no mention of her being emotionally or mentally scarred by the sexual assaults?? Not even a “I still felt their cloying hands on my skin…” literally nothing. In one scene, there were three men holding her down, fully intending to rape her and, thankfully she is saved, but HELLO that is incredibly traumatizing! How could she not have some after effects where she’s feeling disgusted, ashamed, dirty, scared etc??? It was simply wildly unbelievable that Quincey could move on so easily from such harrowing experiences and, in a larger context, it downplayed the effects that sexual assault has on its victims.

Also, Duke!! He could’ve been such an interesting character! I kept wanting to know more about him other than the fact that he is Silas’s right hand man and his occasional relationship coach. Duke was funny, and had he been given the chance to shine he would’ve been one of the brightest stars in the book. W character, L development. He deserved more.

I thought the whole “Quincey left nursing because she thought she was cursed and killing her patients” was a little weak. If you’re a nurse you get used to seeing death all around you, so I’m not sure why that spooked her so much. I would have respected that plot line more if for example she had made a mistake accidentally costing someone their life and felt such immense guilt she had to leave. But no it was literally “too many of my patients were dying so I must be cursed” like what no. At first I thought oh okay maybe she has some powers with death, but no even the vampire — a mythical, monstrous creature — told her there’s no such thing as a curse and she just made that up in her head. Idk it felt like something was being set up but it ultimately led to nothing.

Lastly, I cannot believe that the main villain is someone we’ve never even heard of!!! Who is this Gideon! He is introduced in the last ten minutes of the book yet he’s been responsible for all the death and destruction that Silas experiences. There is a second book so maybe she was simply trying to set up another villain for the next book, but what!! We got a brief synopsis of his and Silas’s history but I would’ve liked it better if we met him earlier on so it would’ve been more of a “who-dun-it” situation between the “evil” characters we already met in the book. The big final reveal of who is behind all the attacks was so anti-climactic because I was like “Oh who’s that lol.”

Intense and gripping from the start!!!

This story was so addictive from the first page. I just happened to stumble upon this author from a reading challenge before, and ever since I have been slowly making my way through her books. I haven't read a PNR book like the ones she has in a very long time. She has an amazing ability to build these supernatural worlds with characters you become completely invested in time after time again. This book was completely addictive and the characters are complex and in-depth, so it makes the storyline so much more intense.

Silas is a character that is perceived as ruthless and the king of New Orleans, which he rules with an iron fist with strict laws of his making. Everyone for the most part follow his laws because they fear his wrath. We watch as he slowly allows himself to let his guard down with Quincey. You see how he's intrigued by her and how she never let's him push her away at times. This push pull angst they have is undeniable and their chemistry keeps growing more and more. I loved Silas the more his story unfolds of his past and all he has dealt with throughout his life. His hardships of losing loved ones and friends over his years has made him stand-offish to most everyone around him. His life is calculated every step of the way to keep his secrets and safety of those he aligns himself with. His love for Quincey knows no bounds once he accepts his true feelings for her and knowing he wants to keep her for as long as he can only makes him more rattled and unhinged when it comes to her. This love they have is fierce and intense but so are these two characters.

Quincey was one of the best female characters with her heart of gold attitude and her ability to always move forward with hope and lightness, when she was surrounded by darkness and unbearable circumstances she stood her ground. I loved how she pushed Silas to his breaking points and never let him push her that far away. Even though she has had fear of him it never truly showed more than her ability to want more from him. Their dynamic was fun to watch at times and gives you the off the charts chemistry of them. Their connection is intense and insane at times making their storyline that much more powerful.

The world and characters are well built and complex with gripping storyline that will have you devouring the pages till the epic cliffhanger that awaits. I was on pins and needles with this ending of book one and can't wait to start book two next. If you're wanting a mysterious world of unknown darkness that surrounds the unsuspecting people of New Orleans grab this book and be prepared to lose yourself in this intensely dark paranormal world. A definite must read and wish I could give more than five stars. This author has fastly become a one click author for me because her stories are so consuming. I will pretty much one click anything her name is attached to because she just has a unique way of pulling you in and making you truly invested in her characters.

Welcome to my Bloody Kingdom, Quincey Page

When the first line of a blurb says “this isn’t a fairytale” don’t go into the book thinking that the author is just trying to trick you into believing the story is all sunshine and unicorns!

Kayleigh King is a Queen 👑 and her writing is impeccable! I fell in love with this book just by reading the blurb. I’m all about the dark, ruthless, captivating storylines that have an extremely attractive alpha male but i LOVE when the female isn’t a damsel in distress but a fierce beautiful badass! And that’s exactly what you get in this book.

Let me introduce you to our amazing duo. First you have the utterly devastating handsome Silas Laurent, who by the way is also the King of all Vampires. You instantly get drawn in by him just within the first chapter and you want to know more about this King just because he is demanding, brooding and apparently fighting his inner beast. Never thought i could get hot for a vampire but Kayleigh King has changed the ways for me! I will say you yourself will be fighting the urge to strangle this man and kiss him at the same time, all because of things he says and does 🤦🏽‍♀️😂.

Then you have the beautiful badass, also known as Quincey Page. Her sarcasm and not give a sh*t attitude just had me relating to her so much. But even under all that sarcasm and sass, Quincey has a heart of gold. Regardless of what life has thrown at her, she is a fighter and will also put the people she cares about ahead of herself. But let’s be clear, don’t take her for a fool because she is a genuine person because she will put you in your place faster than you can blink.

This story brings you in immediately and you won’t want to put it down until you have completely devoured all of it. Your emotions will be taken on a roller coaster and it will feel like you are a part of the story the entire time. Silas and Quincey are two characters i just can’t get enough of and I’m already craving the next book. I will say this You Are Not Ready for this book! Be ready for your heart to break, to be put back together and then probably break again♥️💔♥️ experiencing sooo many emotions!!! That freaking cliffhanger though!!!! 😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥 OMG KAYLEIGH HOW AND WHY?!?!??

You won’t be disappointed in this book, and you’ll be just like me waiting on the edge of your seat for the next one!

2.5/5 ★ Had a realllll hard time believing this FMC would behave the way she does. And this is really just part 1 (ends in the middle of the story/cliffhanger).

THOUGHTS
MMC, hottie (he's a vampire but the FMC doesn't know it because humans don't know about supernatural beings), needs a human woman who happens to be a nurse to care for his dying employee. FMC, was a nurse (she quit for reasons), and her father left her with an impossible 200K owed to a criminal loan shark, which is due in 4 days... SOOOO the MMC hottie buys her debt, kidnaps her, and forces her to care for his dying of lung cancer employee.

She doesn't want to be kidnapped or care for the dying man. So she's pretty pissed off and tells him to f*ck right off.

Our FMC is not at all intimidated by the very intimidating MMC. She sasses and back talks the sh*t out of him because, she gives 0 f*cks about her life. But she does care for the dying employee because she's, ya know, a nurse with nurse ethics.

The set up happens right away, and then it takes endless chapters for anything to happen. Lots of musing about the situation that we are all well aware of.

As the story moves on, for no reason at all on MMCs part, she *surprise, surprise* falls for the intimidating, scary, mysterious, hottie. Because he's hot? Oh no wait, because he takes her out to buy something.

She finds out he's a vampire... that kinda freaks her out, but not really.

There is a whole bunch of plot around someone messing with the MMCs business stuff. He's the king of all vamps and someone is secretly trying to challenge him, take over his king-ness...

Shennanigans ensue... THIS ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER/aka the first 1/2 of the whole story.

👀 POV: 1st person, both MCs

📚 Tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, kidnapping/captive, sorrrrta mafia-esque

Oh my god! I’m speechless. That cliffhanger 😫
That is one absolutely incredible paranormal romance. Silas, the hot, broody vampire. I can see why he is the way he is and can understand his emotions. He’s always tried to do everything possible to keep order and with good reasons. He rules his Kingdom harshly but honestly Silas still deserves happiness and maybe someone to love.
Quincey hasn’t exactly had the best upbringing or life. Definitely has the worst parents. She’s always wanted to help people, but is that in the cards?! She has a best friend Lucy (who I really want to find out more about. She seem’s a bit of a loose cannon!)
I honestly don’t want to say much as don’t want to give anything away. But this brutal, hot & steamy at times paranormal romance is the best one I’ve read in a long time. It’s got everything you could possibly want plus some.
I Love the characters in this story and would love to hear more about Duke & Lucy, but first oh my god what are you doing to me Kayleigh. That cliffhanger! I’m completely at a loss now and really need the next book ASAP. I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to wait this out!
The book is full of angst, steam, broody vampire, strong female characters, death, violence, so much action & drama to keep you on the edge of seat and keep the pages turning. Completely different to any of the PNR’s I have read lately. Very refreshing and Your not going to want to put this down. Ends on one major cliffhanger.
Incredible writing Kayleigh, I can’t rate this enough. Worth so much more than 5 stars.

This is a fine Beauty and the Beast retelling. Though I don't know why authors insist on trying to tie every damned story into a retelling. Why can't a story just be a story? I digress. This is a fine Beauty and the Beast retelling. But it does not live up to the blurb at all. I expected this to be dark vampire romance, maybe even erotica. Instead it really isn't particularly dark and there isn't even a sex scene until around page 225. It's a fine sex scene, but it's not especially impressive or dark. And there's not even very much sexual tension up until that point. So, that blurb makes promises the book does not deliver on. Hell, the story isn't even particularly bloody. So, even the title is misleading in that regard.

Having said all of that, once I let go of the expectations the title and blurb set up, I enjoyed it well enough. It was entertaining. The love was basically insta-lust that morphs mysteriously into insta-love and the whole thing ended on a cliffhanger. So, admittedly, it's not super satisfying. But I did enjoy the time I spent reading it. I'd be winning to read book two, if I could get it at the library or as a freebie. But I don't think I'd be willing to pay for it. (That's kind of my go-to system of deciding how much I like or dislike a series; would I pay for more of it?)

OUT MAY 21st🩸⚰️

4.5/5⭐️ 2.5/5🔥

Alrighty, I have always been a fan of Kayleigh King since Soul bound: book two in the white prophecy series AND I ADORE HER WRITING, UGGH 🥰

Now, this gave me HUGE TVD & TO vibes. Mostly because it was taken place in New Orleans but also because the character reminded me of a badass, sassy Caroline?! And our Silas was our Klaus with hints of Elijah👀🤭

🩸Dark Paranormal Romance
⚰️Vampire/Human
🩸Beauty & Beast Retelling
⚰️Enemies to Lovers

Silas kidnaps our darling Quinn who had escaped her life in Boston fir a number of reasons and one of them being because of a debt she owes due to her father. Silas pays the best for her and is now owning her and claiming the best in a different way.

Silas is a morally grey/ antihero vampire who wants respect but settles for fear, the suspense throughout the book leaves you wanting more and more and while it’s mainly focused on the romance aspect we get crumbs for the plot👀🤭 DUN DUN..

Quinn is set on a errand for Silas and is caught in the middle of a war..

"I haven't felt the sun in a long time, but warmth like the sun radiates off Quincey when she's truly happy. I want to bask in it-suck up all the warmth I've been deprived of all this time.".... Silas

"For the rest of my life, I will be able to find him in crowds of thousands, his dark soul calls to me like a beacon in the night. Even if I couldn't see his whole face, I could recognize him by those midnight eyes of his.".... Quincey

To be honest it took me until I was about 50% into this book to get hooked but once it grabbed me there was no letting go. Silas and Quincey seem to be polar opposites but they blend so well together. It just took them some time to figure that out.

The circumstances under which they came to be in each others worlds was unconventional (to put it mildly) but nonetheless it was fated for them to meet. Quincey is a nurse who feels as if her ability to heal has been cursed. Silas is the tall, dark, handsome and mysterious vampire that has been living a life lacking the healing power Quincey could provide him.

Just a warning....This book ends in a cliffhanger that will leave you craving more!!!

Im in love with Silas 😍😍😍

Quincy is just a normal girl working a job trying to make some money to pay off her fathers debts to a gangster when she gets taken by Silas to help make Ira, his friend that is dying from lung cancer comfortable in his last days. Silas also paid off the debt so now she owes Silas. You can tell they do not like each other very much 😂 Quincey believes she is cursed and everyone she touches will die, she had it happen while she was working as a nurse and thats why she left the hospital. She starts off afraid to touch Ira but they end up becoming close friends.

Quincy and Silas have some crazy HOT sexual tension and chemistry. They fight A LOT but slowly Quincey sees him as more than the monster that kidnapped her. As she is wondering his wing of the house, Quincey finds out that Silas is a vampire.

She doesn't take it how you would think. As Quincey says in the book "The Villian became her Hero".

Oh man where do I even begin with how amazing “bloody kingdom” is when Kayleigh King announced that “bloody Kingdom” was coming I just couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it

Silas and Quincey were everything I hoped they would be and more Silas is one hot alpha with an edge he’s dark and dangerous but oh so delicious and Quincey is bold daring young woman with a beautiful heart Quincey puts Silas to the ultimate test she challenges him in every way but together Silas and Quincey sheer fire they have an undeniable sexual chemistry which oozes off the pages which will certainly melt your kindle!

I just couldn’t get enough of this story I was completely addicted from the very first page “bloody kingdom” ends in the ultimate cliffhanger which will leave you craving more and I am dying to get my hands on more of this series

○ Triggers

My overall rating for Bloody Kingdom…

4 Stars!

Holy hotness, this book was explosive! I love the characters, the writing was enticing and the plot was intense! Bloody Kingdom explores the relationship between a fierce and independent FMC and her kidnapper, a brooding and brutal vampire king. I really loved the relationships present through the tale, not just romantically speaking but the friendships too. I also enjoyed the hidden threat that slyly sneaks up on the reader throughout the book, and the groundbreaking impact when it hits in full force. Overall, this scorching paranormal romance will leave readers glued to the page.

Bloody Kingdom is the first in a new series, Crimson Crown, by Kayleigh King. No spoilers here but all I can say is I have no words! The direction this story takes, the twists, the moments I had my heart in my throat and the ending? I simply can not wait for the next book! These characters have a way of drawing you into them that you can hear their heartbeats in your own ears. You can feel the emotions as they are living them. I have been on a rom com kick lately so I wasn’t sure how I would feel going back to something heavier and I just couldn’t get enough. The characters and their inner struggles of staying in the light of life will have you rooting for them 100%. Do yourself a favor and meet Silas and Qunicey for yourself because you will not regret it.
