Total Fitness After 40 is a well-written, highly thoughtful book on how to get in shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The author has dived into extensive research, explaining the importance of exercise, diet, sleep, and recovery.

In the author's novel you will find great tips on how to exercise, using routines that help you lose weight, get in shape, and leave you feeling happy with yourself. He touches on the importance of many fine details like using good form when exercising, coming up with a daily/weekly routine, and choosing the right exercises to help you reach your goals.

As the author points out, making realistic goals is important, same as a healthy diet, plenty of rest and recovery, and giving your body time to accept its changes as the days, weeks, and months pass. Remember, it takes 4 weeks for you to notice change in yourself. Then 8 weeks for family and friends to notice your changes. And 12 weeks for the world to see your new self.

This author's book reminds me of the adage, "Exercise is a lifestyle choice. We don't have time to exercise. We make time to exercise." Despite this book's title, anyone at any age will find the content useful for a healthy lifestyle. I've been exercising most of my life and I'm 56 now. I've never felt better and much what the author writes is how and why I choose the lifestyle I enjoy. And so will you after reading Nick Swettenham's book.

Keep on reading and exercising! And so will I.

Gets you moving!

This book breathes life and hope back into those of us who have been either disillusioned or intimidated by the idea about trying to get back into shape again as ‘well seasoned’ adults. This is the second book from Nick Swettenham that I’ve read and found valuable. My personality tends to be distracted easily when books go too much into one idea. I just get bored. I love how this book gives your great information but makes it actionable. It helps you get your mind right with your own body perception and how we unfairly compare ourselves to others. I love the small, manageable steps to stop the clock so to speak and to even turn it back at bit. The weekly plans are also great to get you started. If you’ve felt pretty stuck and need just the right about of info and support to make you feel like you can still get back on the horse, then I suggest this book!

Everything here is well-organized and written clear enough so that if you're at the beginning of your fitness journey, this book is really useful. Or, if you've been slacking off and are ready to get off your butt again, this is a good refresher and might help kick start your lagging motivation.

However, if you're already doing something like Crossfit or P90X, and are tracking your food, you already know this stuff. If not, it's worth giving this a quick read.

Wealth of info

There is a lot here, and other than the stretches and exercises, the calorie discussion and BMR calculations were my favorite parts. Some of it is a little dry, but I wasn’t reading this for my entertainment. I needed some insight into stretches due to sitting at work all day and this provided it.
