The twelfth book in the Mountain Life Western Adventure series from Charles Ray!
When Harry Packard, the new owner of Bear Creek’s hardware store, has a shipment of new merchandise go missing, he implores Caleb to help him track it down. His search leads Caleb to the town of Shiloh, founded by outlaws and ruled by, Mace Gandy, a ruthless former Confederate army officer who is looking to expand his criminal empire. When Gandy takes a liking to Caleb and tries to recruit him into his gang, things get complicated very fast.
I've been writing since my teens. In addition to writing for several newspapers and magazines in the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa, I've written two books on leadership and a number of fiction works. I'm also a published poet, photographer, and artist. I write in several genres, reflecting my broad reading tastes. I spent 20 years in the army, retiring in 1982 and becoming a diplomat. I've worked in about 10 countries and traveled to about 30 more, mining each for material to write about.
Caleb gets his friend’s wagon back, prevents a man from turning outlaw, gets a new toaster and an ice box. Reward money is a boon but most of all he get’s his good woman’s love. ( I guess all these mountain man stories can’t have children. Are they all infertile? Ha,ha— I guess children getting in the way of the stories too bad.)
Another action packed short story featuring Caleb. Outlaws have a town of their own but Caleb goes on anyway. Enjoy his he makes his escape. A quick read and enjoyable.
