Ughhhh why??
I really don’t like the way the author writes Lexi as this airhead who crushes on every attractive guy, who has low self esteem, (even while engaged to a guy who obviously adores her), while trying to at the same time portray her as this strong independent business woman. Not saying you can’t have issues, but there’s literally no growth in Lexi, every book, there’s a guy that’s not her fiancée who “ makes her tingle” or “causes her stomach to flip flop” blah blah”

Anyway, the mystery was ok! Lexi was very reluctant to get involved but her grandmother basically coerced her into getting involved, which I also don’t like. Another thing I don’t like is the constant coercion/bullying from the grannies towards Lexi, to get her to participate in their investigations, to the point of suggesting that she get involved with “flirtations” with another man for the sake of an investigation even knowing Lexi is engaged. Yeah, just no 😒😒😒

I think Lexy was beyond shocked to learn one of her grandma's friends was involved with a man at the retirement center who used to be a mobster...and that he'd been murdered in his room. That made for a pretty scary investigation as thugs appeared around town. Nans, Lexy and the ladies were sure they were mob guys.

To make it even worse, an old "friend" of Jack's named Simone appeared in town. Even though Lexy knew Jack was committed to their engagement, it still bugged her to see him with this gorgeous woman, but later she'd find out why she was in town. Lexy and friends got to show their ingenuity and had a pretty funny scene with some thugs in an old storage room. It was hilarious what they did to the crooks. Never underestimate a granny! ;)

Everything was explained at the end like always, and it led into the next book being a woodsy cabin getaway. What could go wrong there, right?

Brownies, Bodies and Bad Guys by Leaghann Dobbs is the 5th book in the Lexy Baker Mystery series. A retired mobster is shot dead at Lexy's grandmothers retirement village and Lexy is once again assisting her grandmothers detective club. A fun, short mystery although Lexy spends a lot of time dealing with her insecurities and doubting her relationship. Her grandmother's club provides a lot of entertainment. A cute and light cozy mystery.

I cackled when Nans asked Ruth if she had a can opener in her purse and Ruth was like, "I think I do". I imagine that's what my future will look like as my friends all know that I do not travel light.

I've read the first 5 books in the Lexy Baker series to date. Each book has been light, cute, and a super quick read. I would call the series "mind candy" - no blood or gore, no heavy thinking, no crazy twists, just silly and fun sleuthing. You won't be screaming from the rooftops that this is your must read series, but the series is a nice and quick read when you need something light. The story is quite far fetched, predictable, and a little corny, but that's what makes it fun. I love Lexi and Jack's love story unfold. I especially love Nans and her geriatric pose's wild and silly sleuthing. This is a great series if you are looking for a quick read while you are on the go, a day at the beach, a rainy weekend, any time you just need a fun light story.

Another cozy winner

Book five in the Lexy Baker Bakery series continues to be a winner. Again, it's short and sweet, cozy and a fast read. Perfect for beach or any vacation. Love the characters and the recipes. Especially love the seniors in the stories (being one myself). Looking forward to buying book 6.

Kindle Unlimited, Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles.

The Notch Cozy Mystery Series {5 out as of this writing} and the Blackbore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are not on Kindle Unlimited which as said before about 1 & 7 {the only ones given free, sure would not have bought them} and ditto for Ghostly Paws which is 1 of 5 at this time but did get others free over time.

While some of her other books are Kindle Unlimited none of the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are which doesn't matter to me as read #1 and #7 and was way underwhelmed. Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles. By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.

Yet another goodreads won't hide it don't want to see the badly proofed badly plotted poor excuse for bad soft core porn crap. The 'historical' ones are like that and so are the some of the non cozy mysteries and some of the sorta but not really mysteries because can't write, etc ad nauseum. The most any of them got was 2 changed to 1 for crap cozy, some get a 1 which means basically crappy soft porn 'romance' etc.

3 in Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series so far which are on kindle unlimited, 3 in the Moosamuck Island Mysteries , 5 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mysteries so far {not ku}, Blackmore Sisters has 7 {not ku}, Hazel Martin Mysteries only has 1 so far, Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery series 12 so far is on ku. Others.including Scandals and Spies Book series so far 4 which are basically romance soft core porn dreck but hey you can get them on ku. Witches of Hawthorne Grove 1 so far,Cevonne Bride of Oklahoma, Unexpected Series 4 so far ku.

The Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery Series By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.

Copy/paste fill in the blank seems to be pretty much what she is doing in her books, which wouldn't be half as bad if the plots and ploys and actions were believable at all.Just change the name for a book and maybe change the series list under, and you are right back to copy paste same old same old.

NOTE: I specifically mentioned certain of the 'books'/series were achieving soft core crap status, and specifically said which ones those were, reference AGAIN the above quoted review, and did not specifically mention the blackmore ones as that, BUT and had not mentioned that had went back and rated all no talent no plot cardboard charactered 'stories' listed above as 1 as well. I will change the original review to reflect that, but it is still a 1, and MY review of the crap stands.

Can you ever escape the Mob?
After the death of a former mobster, the "Detective Club" again do their own type of investigation!
Lexy Baker, bakery owner, and grand daughter of Nan, and her boyfriend Jack Perillo, detective,
try their hardest to keep the gang of elder amateur sleuths out of this one, because of the
mobster influence!
But to no avail. Nan, Ruth, and Helen, gather together at the bakery, over sweet treats, to plan their
strategy.
These hilarious 80 year olds, are anxious to get to the bottom of this murder.
I would recommend this book and the series to anyone who likes quick cozy murder stories.
Leighann Dobbs has a flair for fast, humorous, and totally delightful charactors,

Lexy Baker is my favorite Leighann Dobbs cozy mystery series. In #5, Lexy and her detective boyfriend, Jack, are engaged, but Lexy sees Jack w/ a leggy blonde and gets all jealous. Predictable. The fun part of the plot was Lexy’s Grandma, Nans, and her friends getting involved in investigating the murder of a fellow retirement home resident, w/ possible ties to organized crime.

The plot kept me reading; it was a short book, and I was on an airplane, so I finished this fun book in a hurry. Fun read.

2nd in series I listened to.

Story - plot is nice & simple which is what I wanted (audio book is 3 hours).

Wiring style - no strong feelings other than this book made me so hungry! Could taste and feel the brownies in my mouth.

Character - holy nonsense. I need to look up how old the book is but main character is as dimensional as a piece of paper. Her internal dialogue is immature. Why on earth would she be engaged to someone and not be able to have basic communication? Then she did immature & disrespectful things like not quite flirt with another man to get a ride out of fiancée.

I would pay good money to see this series turned into a sitcom. It is incredibly relaxing and fun, the characters are nice. The relatively fast paced narration make the book fly by and I sometimes find myself stopping whatever I was doing to just sit and stare at the screen. There were moments when I laughed out loud and startled my boyfriend.
I really recommend this if you want something quick and easy. It's also really good if you are going through a reading slump.

Lexy Baker is hoping to spend time planning her wedding to Detective Jack Perillo, but the murder of a mob boss gets in the way. Her grandmother's friend, Ruth, is a person of interest in the murder since she was dating the dead man and may have been the last person to see him alive. Lexy agrees to help Nans clear Ruth's name, but it gets complicated. When Jack's ex-girlfriend arrives in town, things get even dicier.

Brownies, Bodies and Bad Guys

Lexie is pulled into investigating another murder when Ruth is taken in for questioning in the murder of her boyfriend. As the ladies detective group investigates the murder, hints of organized crime come into play. Will Lexie, Nans and the group find the killer?

Brownies for the win

In this story some of the bad guys fall in love with Lexi's brownies from her bakery. The brownies sound great and was delighted that a recipe for the brownies was at the back of the book. I have saved the recipe and intend to make them. Also, I enjoyed the story.

Fun

The one time Lexy Baker is NOT trying to insert herself into an investigation, they pull her right in anyway! And anyone who thinks overseeing four little old ladies is a walk in the park has never tried to wrangle this geriatric foursome! The mystery is lighthearted fun, and the characters are delightful.

Applesauce?

What do you do with a nan that loves to take risks? Lexy once again has to keep her nan and friends out of trouble and alive, when all she wants to do is plan her wedding. Although the wedding may be a nonevent if her fiances long lost girlfriend has a say.

Lexi Baker solves another one.

Job well done, Lee Ann Dobbs. I loved the heat boiling up with the FBI Agent, Lexi and Jack. Ms. Dobbs does a good job of making characters feel real to the readers. It is easy to slip right into her stories and join the group.

Lexy and her Nan along with Nan's cohorts from the resthome solve another murder. Who is that leggy blonde hanging off her fiance Jack's arm Lexy wondered as she saw them walk past the bakery. Its all to do with a death related to the mob and a disgruntled family. Enjoyable read

Same story, same dynamic every time.

Lexy has no self esteem and she cannot stand up for herself. The few times that she attempts to, she ends up looking silly. The grandmother is selfish, dangerous and disrespectful. The cops are ineffective.
