A creepy haunted mansion that has been abandoned for decades, a cat that appears out of nowhere and a murder in a locked room are just par for the course for bakery owner Lexy Baker and her posse of amateur sleuth grandmas. Lexy takes a working vacation to help her grandmother's friend launch her new bed and breakfast and she ends up in the middle of a mysterious murder investigation. Her homicide detective husband, Jack, finds himself playing amateur sleuth beside Lexy and the iPad toting grandmas while they sift through a cast of secretive suspects to prove the killer was no ghost. In the tradition of the old-fashioned mysteries, this Lexy Baker novella is a real puzzler that will keep you guessing until the end. Recipes Included!
USA Today bestselling author, Leighann Dobbs, discovered her passion for writing after a twenty year career as a software engineer. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband Bruce, their trusty Chihuahua mix Mojo and beautiful rescue cat, Kitty.
Her book "Dead Wrong" won the "Best Mystery Romance" award at the 2014 Indie Romance Convention.
Her book "Ghostly Paws" was the 2015 Chanticleer Mystery & Mayhem First Place category winner in the Animal Mystery category.
I read this book in about two hours tonight and I’ve got to say it was SO GOOD. I didn’t see ANY of the twists coming and the final reveal of the true killer had me shocked- it was so unexpected! Leighann Dobbs prospers in this shorter format rather than her usual 200+ page full novels. This book was smart and deceptive, and like the other Lexy baker books, really good fun! 4 stars.
This short novella in the Lexy Baker series took me by surprise. It has a "And then there were none" setting that delighted me on a childhood level. While I did suspect the killer and came out right, I was wrong about the way the crime was enacted. I am honestly hoping to see more of Jack and Lexy in the next b0oks in the series. Jack does not feel like a very important character in some of the books, but I honestly love the small interactions he has with Lexy and gran. Hard to believe I have already reached book 11 and getting close to the end.
This was a short one and I have to agree with others that it could have been better. It was just too vague and hard to follow. Wish it had a little more meat and I was hoping they would find a ghost!
This series has the best stories. More twists and turns than many other mysteries that I have encountered. One of the better storytellers, the author takes the reader on a journey through murder, mayhem and romance with a apt I like of humor.
Love these lady detectives! They look where others never think to look. Clever clues that had me guessing who done it. Houdini is the best but we didn’t get his “cat thoughts”. Just fun reading.
A new location, but the same crime solving crew with a few new characters to make it more interesting and a well crafted twisty plot. I can't wait to read the next book!
The whole series is really cute. At least my husband and I think so. They’re not long books. They’re probably under three hours and audio format which a lot of books are 8-12 hours. I love the characters and the narrator
This adventure had us wondering what the mystery was and why the documentary was so important very unique personalities plus our women detectives got busy investigating. A funny read
This mystery deviates from the usual Lest Baker plot. A different setting, more than normal cat activity, and a greater focus on Mona and Violet tend to give early clues for a conclusion.
Just as most stories go, a mystery of a crown being stolen years ago. Lead mystery guide turns up dead. But never fear the detective group brings home the killer.
