From the writer of the highly-rated 'The Woman and the Witch', comes a collection of short stories designed to delight and uplift.
Six stories. Which will be your favourite?
You'll love the characters. Jean, the weightlifting widow; Pyotr the Russian homeless man who serenades commuters; the Kentish mechanic who can fix any machine in the world but has to go to Sweden to find love; and Frieda and Angie, two witches who break into an old folks' home to save an elderly woman in peril.
These stories are filled with joy and beauty. They would make an ideal gift as they are a celebration of life in all its forms.
Amanda Larkman was born in a hospital as it was being bombed during a revolution. The rest of her upbringing, in the countryside of Kent, has been relatively peaceful.
She graduated with a degree in English Literature degree and an MA in Modern Literature and has taught English for many years. 'The Woman and the Witch' was her first novel.
Hobbies include trying to find the perfect way to make popcorn, watching her mad labradoodle run like a galloping horse, and reading brilliant novels that make her feel bitter and jealous.
She has a husband and two teenage children, all of whom are far nicer than the characters in her book.
This was a breath of fresh air. The author has the wonderful and often rare ability to paint a picture in words and bring her characters to life in glowing and vivid colours. The people are believable and can be found on any street if you look hard enough. I even found a character who in way felt like me! Please write some more stories like this, they fill my life with pure magic.
Little stories that whet your appetite to want to know more. Please, please , can we have more, much more of Angela and Mrs.B. I love how Angela could be any one of us older women and doesn't change into an unrealistic Instagram fluffy!
The end came too soon! I know it said there were just the six short stories but I still wasn't quite prepared for it 😃
Amanda says she decided to visit Frieda and Angie in 'The Highland House Care Home' caper, but it feels like Frieda and Angie were the ones who decided to pop round, because that's what charming, good friends do! I love these two characters, they warm the cockles of my heart and I can't wait for Frieda's prequel and Angie's sequel.
Have read her other books (The Witch & The Woman The Bookbinder), I like the fact she is local to me & her books are a nice light read. Not my usual preferred genre but nice enough.
