Soulbound Shifters #0.5

Soul Shift: A Soulbound Shifters novella

Rate this book
I wanted my life to change. But not like this…

The first full moon after my twenty-first birthday should be a special occasion. My wolf will emerge and we’ll run with the pack for the first time. We’ll also become Soulbound, mated to another pack member for life. There’s a lot to look forward to as I move on to the next stage of my life.

But when the time comes for that very first shift, nothing is the way it should be. I’m afraid, and alone, without anyone to support me. A single comment from a vindictive ex about a past I never knew has brought my world crashing down.

I’m going to discover the truth, but first, I have to survive the Soulshift.

Riley is one of those early-morning people you love to hate, because she swears she doesn't need caffeine, even though the coffee-maker is connected to her smartphone. She lives in a three-story townhouse by the good graces of a tabby-cat who rules the house, the couch, the table, well, basically everywhere. When she's not groveling for forgiveness for neglecting to pet her kitty enough, Riley is strapped in to her writing chair coming up with crazy worlds where she can make her own decisions of when feeding time is and how much coffee can be drank without her friends--of which she has three--holding yet another intervention that they threaten to post on the internet.

I really had high hopes for this book but there are a number of things that annoyed me. It was written in one POV only and that stilted the story as far as I am concerned. There was some humour with lots of sarcasm but some of it will just go over some heads.

There are lots of characters to hate and lots to like. The main Female lead is a pain in the arse most of the time and I wanted her to grow up in her expectations of others. I finished because I wanted to see how it ended and will read the others for the same reason.

There is a lot of flirting but nothing sexy in this story which is something I have come to love in Riley's stories.

Great start to the soulbound shifters series. Had so many questions about how come the soulbound never kicked in before. But definitely helped understand some of the storyline

This was an easy read and a nice introduction, I know it is a novella but I felt it could have been a little longer, it felt slightly incomplete finishing where it did. I know it leads into the next book put me off following on. This is just my preference. I don't like to write anything that may be classed as a spoiler so I will warn you in advance. The main character, although had angsty moments, as we all do, she was mostly strong and determined. To end the book with her in a dither, after she felt something wasn't right just did not fit with how she was portrayed, so poof went my interest in reading more, sorry.

Excellent paranormal, wolf shifter prequil. At age 21, wolves go through a soulshift while finding their mate. Unfortunately, Danielle, Danny, is having an extremely difficult day. This is a great set-up for what the book is about. There's drama, intrigue, as well as twists and turns. Can't wait to read Book 1 in this new series.

This short story gave you a real look into the strength that Dani had. I enjoyed the backstory a lot.

Thanks for the prequel that sets the tone and backdrop for the series. Both this and the series were great!!!
