WARNING THIS BOOK TRIES TO MAKE COMBAT REALISTIC, IT CAN BE BLOODY, IT USES RACIAL SLURS AND SOME PROFANITY. WARNING.

What happens when most of the grid goes down and there are mass riots across the country. Millions are dying, cities are burning out of control. There are nightly ANTIFA and BLM riots protesting the lack of power. New strains of the COVID flu appear, each more deadly than the last. Our government is out of ideas and resources when out of the blue China offers to help restore our grid and order to our cities.

The President welcomes their offer and China arrives, in the same manner the Soviets used to take over countries, on commercial flights. The Chinese took over a handful of airports and then Ports where their freighters brought heavy military equipment, tanks, armored vehicles, and SAMs. Thousands and soon tens of thousands of troops are in California and the Pacific North West.. Most of the citizens welcomed the Chinese as heroes.

The President ordered the US Military to stand down, not all agree. Some battalions decided to ignore the President and fight the Chinese, while others did stand down, only to get attacked by the Chinese. Not everyone listened, hundreds of thousands of veterans and armed citizens fought back. The Chinese soon learn a lesson the Japanese knew in 1941, there's a reason why American hadn't been invaded since the war of 1812. The reason was, there were over 400 million guns in private hands, there's a gun behind every blade of grass. The battle to save America is in the hands of the average American. This is book one in a new series, this is the fight for America's soul fought on American soil.

Pretty good read…

Fiction which very well could become reality.
I absolutely can imagine some (misguided, uninformed, confused, or just plain selfish) people welcoming an invading army, “with open arms.” Even throwing flowers.
Handing over their weapons (IF they had them).
Giving up their individual rights, & their freedom & liberty.
As well as “giving up” their neighbor’s names.
Especially if it meant the return of their electricity, internet, water, & some food. (In that order too.)
I don’t find this story scary … it’s more validating. Of what could be.
Book 1, Behind Every Blade of Grass, reads closer to a sequential list of battles than a story blooming with deep, rich plot & character development.
We do get to know certain players, one who is the main character most of all, but overall who everyone is as a person is put on the back burner for the sake of the battles.
The battlefield takes us on a journey from coast to coast of the U.S.. In addition to over - & under - the seas. The skies are not to be forgotten either.
Every branch of the military is represented. Alongside citizen militias.
And weapons, weapon systems, to include mechanical armor, is covered in depth.
The tale of how the “invasion” came to be (multi-pronged plan!), & is sustained - all of the background goings-on in China is really intriguing & enjoyable to read.
I do not think *some* far leaning liberals will enjoy how they are portrayed in this story, however.
If they are on the sensitive side, easily offended, &/or prone to abandoning the facts for conveniently created realities.
Overall, I am hooked enough to read Book 2.
Hopefully in the next book the author will lean a bit heavier on story/plot, & go a lot easier on the “listy” style of writing.
We’ll see! ……..

Sloppy Writing AND Editing

To get this out of the way, I didn't rate this as one star because of my political leanings; I'm to the RIGHT of the late, great Rush Limbaugh. It's one star because Tom Clancy could've written it better drunk on a fifth of Jack Daniels. Too many spelling, syntaxes and grammar errors to count that killed an intriguing plot.

pass on this one.

So many typos, syntax errors, continuity errors, incorrect weapons info… and the story is incredibly implausible. Not the main storyline of China attacking the US, but the way battles play out is like US forces and equipment is so substandard that it’s all destined to failure. Got so bad I had to quit reading it.

The author takes an interesting scenario and renders it absolutely impossible--poorly written, poorly reasoned, poorly edited--unless you're a die-hard Trumpist. This story is not only anti-politically correct but border-line anti-American in showcasing ignorance as bliss. It made me yearn for the golden years of Reagan, Clancy, and the Cold War when true Conservative writers entertained and educated.

Grammer

Horrible spelling and grammar use. Run on sentences, repetition, and incomplete sentences. Although this author has a good story line he obviously rushed the book to market with little or no review. This work is indicative of the failure of the schools to adequately educate the past generation.

Political Diatribe

If you want to read a real life political diatribe thinly veiled as fictiorrin but using real life names, events and politics to build a story around, this is the book for you. Personally I read fiction to escape hateful politics.

Generally, I liked the 'stick it to them' attitude that the Marine Corps usually has, as well as the 'Don't Give Up the Ship' stoicism and protecting the Constitution and our valued heritage (at least on the Right). However, there is some history that isn't in here that might change the story line a bit.

First of all it was when Obama got rid of most of the flag ranks and mid rank officers (and much of the higher enlisted grades) because they failed the 'do what I say' test from the then president and his staff. President Trump did not do what I thought he'd do, that is check on those who stayed over from Obama era who were not protectors of the Constitution, and then weeded them out of the service. Smilley and the two senior flag rank types who were top advisers of Trump showed just how serious that mistake was.

Otherwise, the only real issues I had were the poor editorial coverage leaving many words that the software changed and wasn't caught, leaving many sentences with really strange meanings because of that change of the word to something that had nothing to do with the sentence.

I hope the results of the earlier fighting wouldn't be too rosy from reality, because it would be a real bloodbath with the CCP having years to get ready for the invasion.

it’s believable in away

The story was full of too many what-ifs/conspiracy ideas on thinks of they happen has they did really got old but I understand that the author was given us a background building on the theories for the problems over the 2016-2022 American years.

There was good work on the American military and Gov’t positions on how they would’ve reacted to events has they did but at time you over did the technical details for military hardware that most people wouldn’t get a true understanding, but a brief summary of there history or how they work would’ve helped the less in formed readers.

On the opposite side your pro-trail of Chinese and there Allie’s could use some real work. The Chinese military structure has a formal speak at times that dosen’t come off easy to write in English but there many military thrillers that could’ve been used for writing structure but I can’t really remember off the top of my head. An finally the aftica/blm you only showed them but portrayed them has people they felt hollow and only has a tool to move the story not has enemy combatants or misguided protesters I hope you give some a voice to better express there POV on things in later books.

Your tinfoil hat is a bit tight, Ira...

Typical Ira... It's a good story, such as it is... But like the stories during the Cold War that told of a future America that had been invaded and occupied by the Russians, it requires the reader ignore certain facts and have a strong belief in the more extreme conspiracy theories that the far Right likes to circulate.

Being a Marine veteran myself, I have no doubt that an invasion of America would be met with a fury unmatched in history, and Ira does a good job of describing this. But the backstory? There's a rule of thumb about conspiracy theories: They almost all don't hold water because it's way too difficult to keep them secret.

Ira has an interesting theory on the demise of America and I tend to agree we have some weak minded leadership currently. China and Russia are our enemies there is no doubt but they always have been. I gave this three stars not because the content was disturbing but the backstory was somewhat annoying to read, for me anyway. The action scenes were good and the effect of the weapons on point. I can tell Ira has read a lot of Tom Clancy novels but keep at it Ira you will perfect your craft and turn out a really good one one of these days.

Accurate data for extrapolation for a change

It is the rare SHTF book that gets both the tactical weapons and the strategic equipment right. Very well researched, credible, and a fun poke it the nuances of some of our political leaders. I buy the idea that most of our leaders will remember our oath, all LEGAL orders and defending the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. They understand the difference even if many that took the same or similar oath do not.

After reading Ira Tabankin's book "Revenge of the Red States" I had to read this one. Since it is still to hot to work outside and TV is worthless finished the book in one day. Just as "Revenge of the Red States" was something we do not want to experience this one is basically along the same premise except China is "invited" to land troops and help(?). Looking forward to the follow on book in August of this year. Just one waring this is defintley not a PC subject matter.

Fantastic Book

Can't wait for the next one. I've read some of this authors work but as this new world rolls out, I find I am reading more this type fiction. Because it doesn't read like fiction anymore. Some older Patriots taking on an enemy we all knew was just waiting for our weakest moments to strike. If they didn't create that moment. Read and remember who you are before it is too late

Couldn't paint truer picture of what could happen

Never have read a book that so vividly portrays what is happening. Remember anyone who trades freedom, for security will have neither. All to many in this country would welcome a foreign invader into our country. Only 1% of American's have served in our armed forces. All veteran's, no matter our physical condition, all who own firearms, all who value true freedom, who know that we have a responsibility to protect our fellow citizens. Whether it's getting vaccinated, standing a post, or protecting our nation from all enemy's foreign or domestic. Our oath is for all of our life's. This book points that out very clearly.

Plausible story!

Mr. "T" 's story was like watching the Nightly News, and being able to see the "Rest of the Story" too! The political climate in the story, and some of the main characters, certainly give one pause. The action is riveting and the good guys have their work cut out for them!

Reason for the 4-star rating...my "teacher background" was distracted by some of the grammar, etc! Getting ready to start #2!👩‍🏫

Enjoyable

Action packed with a scenario that might have been all to possible if the current President had ended up being a white claiming to be black female. Her word salad would have been appropriate somewhere in this book but that was left out. Reading this we should remember how fragile our Federal Republic is. The Chinese are indeed our prime enemy now until they no longer breath air.

Really like this story

Could be the next headline you will not get to read, because the media is in the presidential pocket.
SO REAL! Good read, not politically correct. No spoilers here! Read this before it disappears. If you liked President Trump you will understand exactly how this could happen. Awaiting book two. 📖

Good fiction, but reads more like a true story.

This is the first apocalypse book that mentions our actual present day political leaders by name in a way many of us believe is treasonous but true. Fox News often implies Biden and his cabinet are selling us out to the Chinese, but the author has bravely woven this into his story. I plan to read book 2 now.

Well Written and Probably Correct (if it actually happened)

Author knows his weaponry, has successfully woven today's political and national events into a book I couldn't put down. This is one of the few EOTWAWKI tales I plan on finishing. It is devoid of w pointless sexuality, and is just the right length. The editor deserves a medal. Very well done!

Behind Every Blade of Grass #1 is a gripping, intense thriller that portrays a chaotic America with unflinching realism. The book combines suspense, tactical combat, and high-stakes action with a stark portrayal of societal collapse, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. A riveting read for fans of military thrillers and speculative fiction.

Spot on

I do believe you have a grip on what is happening. This administration is the most corrupt one in my lifetime, I am 75 this is worse than the peanut farmer.. I endured the hyper inflation and it wasn't much fun!

Absolute dogshit brained nonsense. I mean, if anything we are lucky that this was written in a way that made it impossible to recognise as coherent prose, because at least it means that the worst of the author's inane racist turds can slide right past your brain without causing too much damage.

Excellent story lines

The author uses today headlines and pandemic outliers to weave a kind of scary story that could be really what is going on with s ok me of the things. I assume the next volume will pick up where this left off.

"What if" scenario about a Chinese invasion of America - from a conservative perspective. Interesting premise but overly detailed military operations bogged down the character development. Reading it was like reading a dry, after action report. I did like the Marines spirit and tenacity though!

Very hard to read

The disclaimer says not to complain about punctuation and general grammar but there are many words missing and sentences that simply don’t make sense. I LOVE the story line and will likely keep reading but it’s not easy.

Amazon book review of "Behind every blade of Grass: Book 1":
This is a plausible scenario due to China's "deep pockets" and our $$$-hungry corrupt politicians. I ordered Book 2 in this series the same day that I completed Book One. Fun and full of action!

Right out of tomorrow's headlines.

Nonstop action that is sadly too close to reality in a lot of cases.
Mr. Tabankin seems to have a better grasp on strategy, equipment, and current events than most of the media and too many politicians.

I really liked the story line. A very good war game idea. Badly in need of a proof reader and a seasoned editor. That took a lot way from the enjoyment of the story. I plan to continue with this series and hope that the editorial issues get resolved as the good story moves on.
