Transfusion Saga #10

Heart Of Darkness: A Vampire King Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
I didn’t intend for it to happen this way.
But then again, I never did.
No, it was what others had intended for me that was the problem and this had all started yet again with a witch and a double cross.
We had made it to the portal, only a trip back to Lucius’ Kingdom wasn’t on the cards. Because now we were to face a new enemy, one with a handsome face, a killer smile and a land full of Dragons!

Now we had once again been pushed down the rabbit hole, and this was as far from Wonderland as you can get!
For we were not in Kansas Hell anymore.
No, this was the Elemental Realm of Fae and here, there was one ruler who knew I was coming.

In fact…

He was counting on it.

Good story but in dire need of an edit

The 10th Installment sees Amelia in the fae realm and the story continues
Once again like the previous books the root of the story was decent and enjoyable, I liked the new characters, I liked the new scenery. The issue is the lack of an edit which made it dense and repetitive.
Every other sentence started with a conjunction and worse still the same conjunction most of the time (but or because)
There was a tendency to say “this happened, then this, then this, but then this” and added to this it had a tendency to tell rather than show at times.
The tense changed at one point from past to present and then back again.
Words are repeated in close proximity.
The author had a tendency to recap what had already happened in the story (several times) and repeated plot points in close proximity (ie the situation with Lucius was mentioned separately several different times in the first few chapter and each time nothing new was added.
In the first few chapters it was overly wordy and didn’t really say anything with the main character listing
Additional words where unnecessarily added (i would say filler words but this seems to be some kind of trigger word and i don’t mean it in the sense of unneeded plot point but actual words “or should I say more to the point”)
This made the pace slow and draggy.
Although the new characters are interesting enough the original characters were exaggerated to the point of becoming almost caricatures of their former selves and it seemed disingenuous at times.
This isn’t even counting the typos, misspelled words or formatting errors.
Overall as I say the actual story really good but at this stage It felt more like I was reading a first draft rather than a finished product and it annoyed me more since I paid for this one rather than got it on KU and this ones quality seems the worst.
When you compare the quality of the writing in this book to previous series or even previous books in this series you can clearly see the decline.

Very Disappointed

I have really enjoyed the series up until now. The relationship between Fae and Lucious is what appealed to me the most and brought me back book after book. The past two books there has been little interactions between the two. He didn't even make an appearance throughout most of the book. Then when he finally does show she doesn't tell him about his brother, which was the biggest motivator for her to get back to him.

I was also displeased by all the detail on everything. Although details are good there needs to be a balance. I skipped over several paragraphs throughout the book because the detail was not relevant.
I really hope the next book focuses more on the two main characters and spends less time on the detail of someone's wardrobe.

Disappointing
I have loved this series so far, the characters are great and the plot is gripping. This is still true for book 10 but the writing itself was a bit of a let down for me. There was a lot of recapping in the first few chapters, with Amelia sometimes just listing things that she has been through. After the first quarter of the book this improved and the story picked up pace but there were problems throughout. A few times the author told the reader rather than showing them e.g Amelia says ‘I knew this because ...’, or said this happened and then this happened. A lot of conjunctions were used to start sentences (but, and, because, moreover, besides), on one page I noticed 3 sentences started with ‘but’. It just wasn’t up to the usual standard of this author and I think a lot of these issues could be fixed with a good edit. As I said, the story was still good just a few points that made it difficult to read at times

How can a girl please get some sexy time with her fangy vamp king?!! Amelia is a trouble in a bubble as well as an alpha magnet. She has her pick of hunky men but only has eyes for her Chosen One. Why then is it so challenging to get her man alone for some O-therapy? The ride with the verbal-vomit Amelia is worth the time. She's funny, fierce, has a way of enamoring even her enemies, and has all the hot men fighting to protect her; even from herself. I gotta say this ended with quite the cliffhanger so March 21 can't come soon enough to continue Amelia and Lucian's story because the beast is about to be released😈

I’ve loved all the books so far, and I had some really joyous moments reading this book, but I feel like this book in the series was more focused on introducing a potential book series of a whole new realm that will probably come out in a couple of years, so I’m a little disappointed because I wanted more character growth with the main and the highly active supportive characters instead there was none and if there is a book series that comes out in the future about this realm than I feel a chunk of this book may just be repeated. I was really looking forward to this book coming out, but it was a bit of a let down being so hyped up

First off, I'd like to say THANK YOU HUDSON for writing a MUCH better book than the previous one. The second half was a lot better than the first half- so if the whole book were as intense as the second.....it would've been a blind 4 star for SURE.

There was a nice balance between both Lucius and Amelia's povs, and I especially loved the new dragon princess introduced. She's a wonderful, sweet character that I'm SUPER excited to see flourish.

And that ending....not gonna lie. I was wondering when that was going to happen because honestly, there were only so many times Amelia could get away before one was eventually going to stick.

Now I'm genuinely intrigued to find out what Lucius is going to do, coz mannnnnnn, that boy LOVED Amelia. Body, heart and soul.

It's been a while since I read the earlier books, and I didn't have the time or energy to start from the beginning. But that didn't matter, since the start brought everything back with gentle reminders and it the whole world felt completely familiar from the start.

Amelia managed to finally escape the tough situation she had gotten herself into in hell. But instead of getting back to the realm that Lucius rules, she ends up in a completely different place. After a few hickups the group ends up in a safe place and the rest of the book is mainly waiting if they manage to prevent Lucius from killing his brother and then that Lucius and Amelia will be reunited.

What I loved about the book:
The whole series has had a lot of characters that are loveable, and the theme continues in this one. I enjoy the Scottish trio and the banter between them and Amelia. The writing is humorous, and made me laugh out loud a couple of times. And Lucius, he's just the right combination of gentle, loving, overbearing and possessive.

What could have been better:
Well, this might not really go under the category "should be developed", but sometimes the quirkiness makes me cringe a bit. But I do like that it's portrayed as acceptable, I'm definitely one of those people who beat themselves up about saying anything out of the ordinary, so I guess this book sends the right message.
I also didn't have any doubt that Lucius will not kill his brother, I actually expected it to go exactly as it did. In addition I didn't feel anything at the end, since I know that everything will work out and we will see more of Amelia in the next book. So as far as suspense goes, this didn't make it.

But all in all, the whole series has been an adventure and I'm definitely going to continue it. The world, characters and the humor are definitely worth it.

2 to go!!

Well this was one of those books that added to the dang mystery of Lucius and Amelia's story along with this authors signature cliffhangers!! I'm just glad Stephanie Hudson is feeling better and healthy again !! Allowing book releases to be back on schedule. Yay😊 I was okay with delays because I went back and read all 9 books again just before the release of this one, which made the story more fluid, cuz I had forgotten some stuff. I highly recommend Ms. Hudson's books for they are detailed, descriptive and unique in the worlds she creates. And again always be prepared for many, many, many cliffhangers. 😉

New Lands

Now we are in the land of the dragon king & more adventure for Amelia while Lucius is desperate to find his Chosen One.
Once again there are twists & turns with new characters that I hope will stay in the storyline.
The ending is dark & I have no idea where the next book is going in all this.

Finally!!

This was a long awaited book. At first, Amelia was annoyingly Amelia. I think the parts I throughly enjoy are the chapters with Lucius POV. Stephanie didn't disappointwith the cliffhanger un the end.

Amazing book. Truly one of the BEST so far in this series. Now I just wish I could fast forward time a bit until the next one comes out! Flew though this in one sitting today. I assure you, you won’t be able to put it down.

Book was OK, not a lot of action, and seemed to finish really quickly with no real progress in the story, so I wasnt all that happy with it, and yet another cliff hanger of course.

I would still read to get the ground work for the next book, but overall it was just Ok.

Omgees amazeballs Batman!!!

So I know you said it was going to be a 12 book series but I feel there is soooo much left to this story that I want 100 books at least I mean this has all been the same battle and I feel there should be more like everyday they live like forever lol!!! I would never get bored with it and the spinoffs are endless just like your creative genus has no limit neither does the possibilities to continue writing in this world even the fae Dragon kings chosen one's could be a great story and I hope you do one for the mcbaine brothers I love them you are without a doubt my new favorite author I could just live in your books you tell these stories better than anyone you build it in my mind and everyone needs a pip and even while reading afterlife I fell for lucius I just wish they worked out more about Keira and lucs past because he totally fell for Keira and when amiela enters lucs castle he should have heard and seen the exchange between her and trice because he is always watching her and I'm curious why trice and ameila have a connection I understand luc and Keira because of the fates and what she would give him his own chosen one but sometimes I think he would still love Keira if ameila wasn't his chosen one even if they met that his feeling come from fate and not his heart so I feel this should continue to unravel and I know this is a huge challenge for them but I think they should have more to overcome and prove their love is from their heart more than fates wishes and I want to see them grow together and I want to read about their happily ever after like all of it just like I wanted afterlife to continue I want to read about the good times as well as the bad I will never get enough and I'm so excited about the kings stories as well as the beasts stories and omg can't freakin wait for pip and Adam's story I love her so much and just write in this world forever you built so much to write from this your a genus and it will never be enough for me to read about this world and all the characters you brought to life every single one has a story I'm dying to read and I've been reading every day for 12 years so coming from me and the thousands of books I've read is huge you have a special gift the likes I've never seen before so much so that I don't want to read anything unless it's in this world and I've been reading 2 to 4 books a day for 12 years I really should make a job out of it lol! Seriously I would love to read them all in the male pov to hooked doesn't cover my obsession like I rarely ever leave reviews and I want to do it for you every book so you never stop writing!!! For the love of all things literary- please, please hire an editor. I have waited until this last book to write a review of the series (yes I know there is another coming soon). The storyline and plots for both the Afterlife and Transfusion series are entertaining and creative. I did enjoy the charcters and humor, enough so that I continued reading. However, I would not have if the books were not part of KU and I had had to pay for them.

The author wrote a “clause” in the preface of each book, at least in the Afterlife series, that mentions that she has taken liberties to use Northern English colloquisms throughout the series. This explains the use of verbs in the wrong tense for characters from Northern England, this however, does not account for why all of the characters would use these colloquialisms. Why would a 2000 yr old vamp say “as I was stood there”?

There are so many spelling errors, missing words, wrong words and a MADDENING amount of repetitive phrases- “I knew this when...” . The further into the series you go the further the writing declines.

There is a ridiculous amount of unnecessary discriptions that do not in any way enhance or further the plot nor character development. The overly verbose descriptions distract and are very annoying. The 20+, 250-300 page books should really be culled to be 7-8 well written books. It seems to me that because the author owns the publishing company she feels she has carte blanche to write without an editor, producing books quickly with little to no care for quality over quantity.

Heart of Darkness is exactly right

I am reading this series and enjoying reading this book. This book was a better for Amelia because she showed off all her best traits and powers. She finally realizes how much she loves Lucius, at the end of the book really but it’s still a great moment in the storyline. We, the readers, are treated to more historical information which is a plus to understanding the ultimate enemy. We finally get to know a little bit more about this enemy. I like the McBain brothers and Nero. The bring freshness into the story in this world the way Adam and Pip do topside. We get to know more about Lucius second in command Car’neau (spelling probably not correct) and it’s an interesting tale of greed and lies, but with some Dragons and brightness sprinkled in. It’s a good read. I read the other reviews and ones with spoilers so I knew what was coming up at the end. However it’s not a pleasant ending and you get so many good reveals and this this tragedy happens, and you are like what just happened? Read On!

Get ready for another wild ride. This book will consume you!

This is book 10 in the Transfusion series and needs to be read after the previous 9.

Lucius and Amelia’s tale continues in true Stephanie Hudson fashion with stupendous humour and staggering description that brings the characters to life. If you thought Amelia and Lucius had to fight for their love before, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Heart of Darkness kept me on my toes from start to finish. So spectacular to see a new realm and some new characters, who I am looking forward to seeing again.

The wait for book 11 is going to be agonising after that cliffhanger! Can’t wait to see what happens and to learn more. I could carry on listing everything I loved about this book ... It has made me want to read all of my favourite books again! To be honest, I was just about to give up on this series as I haven’t been enjoying it. I’ve struggle with Lucius’ dominance but Amelia matches him in strength. A must read for lovers of this series and paranormal romance.

I always hate it when Amelia is separated from Lucius, that's why when they reunite I always love and cherish those moments. I do love the introduction to the new king in this book and I like the hint between Vena and Trice hahahah because I don't ship Amelia and Trice, since its Amelia and Lucius for me!!!! I love how Amelia is trying to be the match maker for Vena and Trice here and omg, the moment when Lucius finally reunite with Amelia was... 😍😍

That ending though.... I do know nothing will happen to Amelia and she will come out of this alive (I hope she becomes a vampire though) at the end but Stephanie Hudson sure have to separate them.....again.... this time not physically but mentally, poor Lucius.... but I did enjoyed all the love scenes between Amelia and Lucius though.

P.S. I am so glad that Lucius brother is alive since I didn't want Lucius to regret this for the rest of his life for killing him. Double glad that they were able to still be like brothers like before.

Awesome Story BUT

This is a #1 author in my eyes, BUT I just have gotten so fed up by the constant repetition of the characters thoughts, and the LONG drawn out pages of description of wtf ever and started skipping MORE pages than I read!!! Absolutely ridiculous and completely irritates the living hell out of me. It’s like GET to the POINT already will ya????? Dang. You’re not the only author doing this. And you’re VERY GOOD. But it’s like you’re killing space and wasting time NOT letting the story flow and get on with it. If you can’t think of anything better to say that’s actually the story, instead of constantly repeating thoughts, taking about 4-10 pages describing crap, then TAKE a break, have a coffee and relax until you can please and thank you. It’s NOT just this book. I own all and this is me reading all a third time. Yes love that much. Just stop killing time with boring, irritating drivel for the love of GOD!

God damn portals…… Every time our heroine steps through a portal it never ends well. However I was pleasantly surprised by what Amelia is faced with when landing in a new realm, one filled with Dragons. Yes your read that right… Dragons, oh and an ever so handsome Fae prince named Auberon. I was so excited by this new realm, Stephanie never disappoints with her vivid imagination and descriptive content to give you the full experience of realm and its colourful characters.

This instalment of the series had me hooked from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down, trying to work out what Amelia’s connection to this new King will be and if Lucius will ever find his Queen in this beautiful but distant realm. Finally lets just say it ends in utter chaos and a shocking twist which leaves you wanting more.

Nope!! I can’t with this. *SPOILERS*

So first things first, book 11 hopefully will g be e coming out soon right? Because that ending, my feelings are hurt and my heart breaks for Lucius. Like I kind of want Dariush to be dead instead. I mean I was rooting for him but she saved his life just to die herself. No thanks.

So I definitely didn’t realize I was nearing the end of the book until I it was the end and I was sad about it. I was so immersed in this book and just kept devouring page after when I could.

Now Lucius finally got his girl back just for her to be taken again. And this time it seems to be in a more permanent way. But I’m thinking this might be necessary for Amelia to gain her immortality because I know she is human but she is clearly so much more.

First of all what's with the short bloody books!!! The author seriously needs to either join books together or just write more..

Secondly I wanted to give this book more stars but the first half was boring and repetitive. (I completely agree with other peoples reviews on this fact)

then when it was finally improving it ended...On a cliffhanger of course.

In summary if you've followed the series then you need to read the last few chapters of this book before the next one is released.
However it is by far the worst out of the series.

I'm yet to decide if I'll continue with this series after this book.

Omg this was brilliant. I’m a little irritated by the negative reviews left which certainly should not put you off. Apart from some grammatical errors this read was great, so much going on, it was exciting, suspenseful and just gripping. Lucius and Amelia are still fighting to get back to the other and when they do it’s explosive, but will tragedy find them again?
Amazing read, great story, plot and characters. Loads of angst, throughout. Done amazing steamy scenes and the banter and humour are great. I was left speechless by the end, so I’ll be moving on to find out what happens next. Highly recommend

Ugh I wanted to like this more 😭
I just couldn’t get into it like I have all the other books in this series. Luckily I powered through and it got a lot better around 70% when Lucian comes into the picture again.
It had all the ingredients to make it amazing ( fae, dragons, hot guys pursuing Amelia, Lucian going insane over getting back with Amelia, adventure and kidnapping...) I just don’t know why it fell short for me.

I am excited for the Fae realm and the next book because this one ended on a cliff hanger.

I am not believing this one! There's no way you get to whatever book number this is to kill off a main character. I just don't believe it. I'm not accepting of it either! But I now have a feeling that this next book might just go down hill.
Gosh these characters are really being put through it all aren't they. I kind of understand now why we couldn't continue with the side characters all the time because this world is far too big for that.
Right now though I need to go find out how the king of death will bring his chosen one back to life.

Heart of darkness transfusion book 10

No it can't end like this Amelia is dying and for the first time Lucius may not be able to save her. After finally getting Amelia back from again being kidnapped for the umpteenth time Mucous and the far kings are attacked by wraiths and it looks as though Amelia will have to pay the ultimate price, death. Can Mucous save his chosen one his heart of hearts or will Amelia in fact die. Read to find out what happens next for these troubled lovers.

Finally got interesting towards end. Last two books were very disappointing. Author wrote a lot that was obviously just filling the pages. I found it a insult to my intelligence. I will no longer read this author. She goes into way to much detail on what people are wearing and what rooms look like. Very boring and obvious fillers

Finally got interesting towards end. Way too much detail on cloths rooms etc. Obviously uses to much detail for fillers

Fae with the Fae

Amelia can’t catch a break. Kidnapped, captured, on the run, all of the above. And Lucius is not the only King wanting or looking for Fae. Nero is a help but the forces who are out to get Amelia may prove to be more than the witch can deny. The shifter brothers have her back and are what she considers friends and they call her their Bounty, some things never change. Love the description of Hell and the Fae lands. Lucihas his hands full.

Oh Gods.....I need the next book like tomorrow!!!! To say I have been gripped by everything that is afterlife and transfusion would be an understatement as I'm not gonna lie and say that I have become a social recluse and I'm not least bit ashamed of it. I need to know that lucius gets his happy ending cause god knows he's been through enough with Keira and now Amelia, the kings need a break lol! When is the next book available?

SIMPLY SENSATIONAL

Well I can’t put into words how amazing this series is and this instalment is simply sensational.
Amelia is on her way back to her king. Well that is until the plans backfire in the way of a witch.
We meet new characters. HOT new characters.
Lucias is mad. Killing mad. Someone has his chosen one and he wants her back.
Hilarious and completely gripping.
I highly recommend
