Another classic Swiss children's book by beloved author Max Bolliger. The illustrations are a little on the naïve side to carry a similarly unremarkable tale. Alois becomes troublesome as he grows stronger and more bullish, and is isolated for his behaviour. He gets lonely, sets off on his own, and returns shortly after to be welcomed back by the fold (I'll not elaborate so as not to spoil the how, but it isn't overly exciting). Has he learned any lessons? Yes, but not directly pertaining to the reason for his expulsion in the first place. Personally, I don't see why this book is so beloved. If you want a cute story about a young bull, THE STORY OF FERDINAND is the one to go for.
Okay, you should know that Jelängerjelieber pflanze / strauch is Gießblatt or Honeysuckle vine. Maybe this makes the tale a little more endearing, but was lost on me...
