My whole life has been thrown upside down, tossed into a fucking blender and turned on high without the lid on. It’s a fucking mess, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
We look like we went through hell and back and then back to hell, and then we took a detour through the hellier side of hell and were spit out of hell’s asshole. At least that’s what I feel like.
“I’ll go!” a voice pipes from beyond the door. I slowly turn to face the Peeping Tom who is, of course, none other than Ari. Instead of knocking on the door like a civilized human, he’s hovering around on my front porch, peeking through the window like a creep. And on top of that, how the hell does he always know how to find the action and squeeze his way into being involved?
“See? The creepy perv from next door has already volunteered to take your spot,” Rowan says, not looking at all enthused by this. “Which is why I’ve decided that I will not take him.”
I pull Graham in close, not because I care, but because I might need a meat distraction if someone busts in here.
“What are you…?” Graham asks. “Meat shield,” I explain.
“Ah, thanks. I’m glad I could sacrifice my meat for you.”
I grin. “I am too. Now shush, they’re coming. Stand still and quiet like a good meat shield.”
He doesn’t seem too convinced but does lie down on his unhurt side where he stares at me. “Pillow… activate.”
I stare back at him as I realize he thinks I’m the pillow. He waves to the spot. “Pillow?”
“I’m not your pillow.”
Rowan looks more than a bit hesitant. “Hmm… I kind of don’t want to look at it. Ari’s been sending me nude pictures.”
“Wait, what?” I ask, wondering how hard it’d be to reach his house in time to threaten him before Logan noticed and threatened me back. I’m positive it’s the only thing that could ever make Logan mad at me.
Rowan waves at me. “Oh, no, no, don’t stress. Not of him. Of you.”
It takes at least a full minute for that to sink in.
“What do you do if you come across a box?” Quinn asks as I prepare to get in the car for the drive to meet my father.
“Jump in it!” Ari immediately replies from where he’s hanging on Logan.
I stare at my mate in disbelief that he would ask me something so ridiculous and be so very amused by it.
“No. Don’t jump in it,” Quinn says.
I step outside only to run into Ari, as an ocelot, lying in a bush. I’m almost positive he thinks he’s completely hidden and is planning on jumping out at me. I pretend I don’t see him and take the path away from the bush. He lets out a noise of displeasure and comes barreling after me, shifting just as he reaches me. “What the hell, man?” he asks like I’ve horribly hurt him by avoiding his surprise attack. I grin at him as he pouts. “You need to learn to hide better.” “I was hidden. I was so fucking hidden. I was like… a shadow in the night. A… an ocelot in the dark.” “No, you were literally the first thing I saw as I came out. …“
