Vhyl is determined to acquire a certain lost artifact, but when he lands on the forbidden barbarian planet known as Earth, he finds more than expected. An attractive human female is in possession of the priceless object, and she’s agreed to hand it over—for a price.
Apparently she doesn’t know of his reputation…or doesn’t care.
Intrigued by her fearless nature—and her luscious cocoa skin—this acquisition expert can’t resist stealing a kiss. But before he can take more, his enemy arrives to stake a claim.
It seems Vhyl isn’t the only one interested in Jilly’s treasure—and Jilly herself. On the run not only from Earth forces but his enemies too, they must fight to survive and evade capture.
However, he can’t escape the effect the human has on him.
In the end, Vhyl has to make a choice—Jilly or the priceless treasure he came for?
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
Terrific story and very original for alien romance!

The heroine:Jill - she owned her grandmother’s farm, and she was going broke with her mortgage and penalties for delinquent payments coming due soon, not to mention it was nearing Christmas time. She didn’t have the money and didn’t know where to get it, she would surely be homeless soon. The orchard hadn’t produced for over two years after it became infested with butterfly larva. She thought she might be able to make the money working in a strip club, but she didn’t want to do that. Suddenly she sees something in the sky and makes a wish on the falling star, but it turns out to be an alien spaceship, or at least an escape pod from one, and it landed in her yard.
The Hero:Vhyl - he is a mercenary that focuses on acquisitions and is on a mission to the barbarian planet of Earth to obtain an object worth a lot of money. If he coveted something, he acquired it, and it was put into his well guarded treasury. He has a thought to speech voice modulator that allowed him to speak every known language, so when he lands in Jill’s yard, he is able to speak to her and understand her. He is a bit surprised when she invites him into her house for some food.
The Story: Vhyl is looking for the XIIX stone, and the energy signatures showed him that it was somewhere in her house. It is an artifact that has been lost for millennia. He tells Jill that he won’t hurt her if she hands it over, but she has no idea what he was talking about. He knew it was made of one of the rarest minerals in the universe, but he had never seen a picture of it so didn’t know how to describe it to her. He tells her he has a device to read the energy signatures of the items in her home, and he can find it that way. He can’t understand that she wants him to get on with it and get out because she has bigger things on her mind. He can’t understand that because he knows that the world revolves around him and thinks she should be wanting to be in his presence.
Vhyl reminds me a bit of the main character in the last book in this series in that he had a huge ego and thinks he is the bee’s knees and all that. When Jill ignores him, he decides that it is because she is a barbarian and can’t handle his greatness and needs a break. Though Jilly is extremely attracted to the handsome, muscular alien, she knows she still has to figure out what to do about her farm. Vhyl keeps getting into her personal space though, and she was aware of him as her body wakes up, especially after Vhyl tells her he is enjoying the feel of her body against his. The Feds arrive and the two of them end up being questioned by authorities.
This setup has some compelling elements—Jill’s desperation makes her an instantly relatable character, and Vhyl’s arrogance creates delicious tension. His utter inability to grasp that he’s not the center of Jill’s universe is particularly fun because it sets the stage for a satisfying dynamic shift. I also like that her financial hardship isn't just a backdrop; it actively influences her decisions. It makes her initial response to Vhyl much more layered—her attraction to him is there, but survival takes precedence.
This audiobook was narrated from multiple perspectives, done in solo narration by Marie Smith. I really dislike solo narration, but I bought this book in boxed set and three narrators were listed so I hoped there would be dual narration for each of those books. I was not happy to find out that only the first of the four books was dual narration. Though I like the author and she does good stories, so I listened to this anyway, since I already paid for it. Marie has a decent voice, but it isn’t one of my favorites.
Holiday Abduction is book six in the Alien Abduction series by Eve Langlais. This was another fun purple alien romance.
Jill is not sure what to do. Her farm is going into foreclosure and she has no way of bailing herself out. She’s hoping for an alien invasion.
Vhyl is in the filed of acquisitions; which means he collects and/or steels things. He is also a purple alien.
I had a lot of fun with both Jill and Vhyl. Jill grew up with her grandma who believed in aliens, so when a purple guy shows up at her front door, instead of freaking out, she stays cool, and finds out what he wants. Things soon turn into a run to survive from another alien who wants Vhyl dead and the government showing up looking for aliens. Their romance is fast, but fun. The adventure they go on is exciting and keeps the story moving.
Holiday Abduction is a short read and everything moves fast, but it was also a wonderful and strangely sweet adventure.
Vhyl arrives on Earth in search of an artifact when he lands on Jilly's land. Jilly grew up with a grandmother who believed and in a moment when everything seems dire an Alien arrives and shakes everything up. With the men in black in pursuit and Vyhl going by John Smith, they are on the run. Vhyl decides that he wants Jilly though and maybe she is what he needs by his side.
Fun filled book. Vyhl is a bit obtuse but it is in such a funny way. Liked Jilly, she is a feisty woman and thought this story was a entertaining ride.
This novel was wonderfully exciting and fast paced. Langlais’ tale is vibrant and larger than life. The ‘Fine Art of Acquisition’ is even better than the ‘Mercenary’s Guide’ from earlier in the series. It gave me a deeper sense of the alien culture while also making me giggle. I also appreciated how Langlais tied the entire series more closely together via shared celebrations between all of the major characters.
The sassy, snarky writing really let me get inside the heroine’s head. Jilly was probably my favourite heroine in the series. Her sense of self-worth and desire for a certain life was enchanting. Her grandma’s advice was preciously priceless. It had me laughing every time. I enjoyed Vhyl. His actions and reactions were all so genuine. Topped off with his internal conflicts – what he should want as opposed to what he does want – made him a lot of fun to get to know.
Langlais has once again created a fun, fast paced story that took me right out of this world. It was a fantastic read that I was sorry to see end.
While Vhyle is pretty knight-like in some respects, he really isn't in others. Fun, hot and well written, Holiday Abduction also showed us some of the characters from the earlier books.
Vhyl loves being on the wrong side of the law and no one stops him from getting what he wants. Not even a cute human with a primitive weapon will keep him from the artifact he came to earth to retrieve. Though if he was to be honest (and why would he do such a ridiculous thing!?!) the more time he spends with Jilly, the more he sees she may be the priceless treasure he's searching for.
Like his cousins before him, Vhyl quickly learns that dealing with human females is not easy. Jilly has a strong will, sharp mind and will never do what she's told by her alien abductor. Of course her defiance is a turn on for Vhyl and getting her to obey his orders is a sensual undertaking both thoroughly enjoy. There's nothing really original about either character because pretty much all series heroes/heroines are similar but that doesn't take any fun away from the story. When I read these books I expect a hot outlaw alien with a soft spot only for his future mate and a human with a lot of sass and courage where others would cower and Holiday Abduction does not disappoint.
Vhyl's arrival on earth doesn't go unnoticed by the government or an extraterrestrial enemy. This book is less than 150 pages so there's no long, epic battle yet there's ample action to keep me amused and invested in the story. Holiday Abduction is another delightful, strangely sweet adventure in the Alien Abduction series. Definitely worth checking out and if you're looking for a gift for a PNR lover, consider this series. - Stephanie
Nothing says Christmas like a purple alien set on acquiring his own gifts off the wish list. The only trouble is that Vhyl has trouble determining just which gift is the more important when his hunt for a priceless artifact leads him to an alluring barbarian alien female who doesn't seem all that impressed fearsome reputation.
Holiday Abduction is a hilarious & sexy sci-fi romp just like Eve's other books in the series. If you like the other five books, you'll like this one as well. There's a bit of excitement because the government tracked Vhyl's landing and are after him, there is a rival seeking to acquire the artifact that is hidden in Jilly's home, and of course there are some passionate, as well as tender moments between Vhyl and Jilly too.
And when Christmas arrives, Jilly gets to spend it with the other five human mates. I especially liked that we got to see how the other couples have made out since they all fell hopelessly in love with their other halves. Or their other third, in one case:-P
Get in the holiday spirit with this fantastic read! This book is such a wonderful addition to the Alien Abduction series. I love how with each new book the characters continue to evolve and the story never gets old. The action and intensity is high throughout the entire story and the characters are easy to connect with. I might have even cried a little at one point, but in the end we get to see a perfect HEA and an epilogue that I’m glad I didn’t miss. I can’t wait to read more books from this series.
It was ok. I listened to the audio. It was dual POV but one narrator. I barely tolerate one narrator books, but I didn’t have a lot of time - so thought since this was a quick one I would listen. It was cute nothing great - no need to go on to any of the others. I didn’t feel like I missed anything by picking up in the middle of the series.
Ms. Langlais' humour has made her one of my favourite authors whose storylines rarely disappoints me. Love that she is Canadian and often makes references to Canada in her books.
Nothing says holidays like a purple alien set on acquiring his own gifts off the wish list. The only trouble is that Vhyl has trouble determining just which gift is the more important when his hunt for a priceless artifact leads him to a sassy, sensual barbarian alien female who doesn't seem all that impressed with his big bad rep. Jilly went from alone at Christmas and looking a foreclosure and eviction in the eye to going on the run with a virile, arrogant purple alien warrior who is reluctant to get into the Christmas spirit. In the end, she must decide to go with him for further adventures into the unknown with no guarantees or stay with what she knows even if it feels empty and lonely without Vhyl.
I laughed so hard at times as I read this hilarious sixth installment in the alien abduction series. While the big holiday reunion at the end might be more poignant if the previous five installments were read, it is not essential that a person has read any of them to appreciate this scream of a story. Personally, I have several of the earlier books to read still and I did just fine with the story.
Okay, so it's not just funny, there's quite a bit more this story offers. There's a bit of excitement because the government tracked Vhyl's landing and are after him, there is a rival seeking to acquire the artifact that is hidden in Jilly's home, there are some passionate moments and also tender moments between Vhyl and Jilly too. But, fine, yes, its a sexy, sci-fi romance romp that this author excels at and staged against the backdrop of Christmas.
Odd how his past studies of the barbarians on Earth never properly conveyed how attractive some of them were. Perhaps her suggestion of abduction and probing should make my list of things to do while planet-side. Sure there were laws against meddling with humans. And, yes, it could cost him his life if caught or discovered. Danger? Law breaking? Wild sex with a new species? Things were looking more and more promising. Loc. 11% Vhyl, Holiday Abduction
This was a nice bit of holiday sass and fun and I would heartily recommend it for anyone looking for a quick, light-hearted, but sensual sci-fi romance.
My thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this book. I wanted to like it so much, I pre-ordered it on my Kindle. I've read all the other books in this Alien Abduction series so I knew to expect a little fluff, some sexy scenes, humor and adventure.
Unfortunately when I sat down to read Holiday Abduction I felt like the characters were underdeveloped and the "plot" and action reminded me more of an old Wiley Coyote cartoon as opposed to a light romance. While the characters in other books within this series were consistently likable and strong with a bit of goofiness and arrogance thrown into the mix, that's not the case with Holiday Abduction.
The hero came off as a self-entitled, clueless jerk and to my mind never redeemed himself. Everything he did was to benefit himself, even saving the heroine was to assuage his own feelings. The heroine emitted a strangely apathetic personality which in turn made me apathetic toward her plight. Neither of main characters seemed to have any genuinely passionate feelings about anything other than the hero's obsession with treasure. I get the treasure angle after reading previous books in the series but this particular hero didn't have enough good qualities to override his thieving mercenary lifestyle.
I would normally read a book of this length (142 pages) in a few short hours. Holiday Abduction didn't retain my attention so it took me a few days because I kept putting it down. I wasn't thinking about the characters at all once my kindle powered down.
Have you ever had one of those caricature artists at a festival draw your portrait? The characters in this book reminded me of those county fair caricatures where a select few traits are blown out of proportion while the setting and bulk of the picture are left undone.
Will this poor experience keep me from reading other Eve Langlais books? No, of course not. I didn't enjoy this particular book but I liked enough of her other works to keep me reading.
I decided that Holiday Abduction would be the perfect early gift to myself to start the season. I couldn't have gotten that more right than if I had hit the lottery! Vinyl has solidly hit the top of my favorite "purple dude" list alongside Brax and Xarn. Never will you meet another more stalwart alien clinging tightly to his lack of morals and need to wreak havoc and mayhem. And Jilly! Love this heroine! She enjoyed being caught up in Vhyl's chaos despite the woes he brought down on them, wrapping him up in his incredulity to the point he just had to keep her (hint- of course there is an HEA!). This tale is a fantastic knee-slapper that will have you giggling, snickering and downright snorting thru tears from the beginning to the end. Don't deny yourself; buy it, read it, then pat yourself on the back for a purchase well made!
Unknown to Jilly, she's in possession of an ancient artifact that Vhyl's determined to find, and when he shows up on her lawn one snowy December evening, she's not scared -- she's annoyed. But she's also attracted to the hot purple alien (is that like a Purple People-Eater?), and decides that she'd like to get to know him better. But time's not on her side, since not only the police but also Vhyl's enemy Mo, show up, equally determined to get the object.
It's silly, and doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's a fast read too. Jilly's snark is quick and funny, and Vhyl's reactions are great.
If you've read any of the other books in the series, there's a holiday gathering at the end where you can catch up with the other characters in the series.
Another LOL sexy romp with a purple alien who loves to be a bad boy and a human woman who he learns to love. I love the characters in this book. The purple hunky alien comes to Earth to steal an artifact. The human woman who unknowingly owns the artifact is down on her luck with her farm about to be foreclosed on. With other aliens on his trail and human feds in pursuit of alien sightings, he is more I interested in pursuing her and thrilled about the chase. She takes everything in stride quoting her hilarious grandmother as the chase goes on. A very entertaining book.
at first, I was a bit, just a tad, disappointed with the story since the last two were so much fun with diverse adventures. but it got better with the actions as by fleeing the cops, federal agents and jelly mini me. most importantly, I really like the quotes by both entities. what a great end to finish with epilogue.
I am sad to say this is not like the others in the series :( I just didn't connect to the hero in this book as I did with the others. Didn't care for the heroine either - oh well there is always that one book.
It was an ok read but easily predictable. The worst part was how extreme the insta-love was. It was almost an overkill. They knew each other a couple of days? It just lacked depth. I doubt I'll continue this series.
What do you get when you mix a purple alien, coveted treasure, Homeland security, and a gelatinous bad guy that recreates itself? A cheesy, comedy-riddled, sci-fi/romantic/holiday story I found very entertaining!
Vhyl goes to earth to acquire the XiiX. He tracks it to Jilly's farm where she's praying to find a way to pay her mortgage before it comes due. The XiiX is an ornament on her Christmas tree. She asks Vile as she calls him what he'll give in payment. Before an agreement can be reached, another competitor attacks and blows up her house. Jilly and Vile escape and between running into government agents and Mo again, they get together. When Vhyl asks Jilly to come with him, she turns him down. She returns to her burnt home only to get evicted by the bank and then kidnapped by another of Vhyl's competitors. Vhyl comes back for her and rescues her as he tells her she is his greatest treasure. He bites her to mate her and she returns the bite to his surprise. To complete the holiday theme, all the Aressotle mercenaries/hero and their mates celebrate Christmas together even if the males will have to do some violence to make up for it.
This series is so much fun to me! It's an escape read, that I truly enjoy and that leaves me giggling for days!
I adore all of the A purple dudes, but Jilly is my favorite "abductee" by far! She is snarky and not about to back down for any reason and is virtually fearless at the sight of a spaceship and alien ... of course it probably helped that her grandma believed in aliens!!
It is a really fun series, but you have to be okay with a lot of sex and insta-love. But it's about purple aliens....why would you expect something true to life?? :-)
I only have one book left in the series (read one out of order) and I'm curious how I will feel about it as it is a Reverse abduction....with the alien being female. Can't wait to find out!
Another good addition to this series. And set around my favorite holiday is a bonus. Jilly is my favorite heroine of this series now! Loved her spunk and realistic view to the fact that aliens could exist. Vhyl was as amusing as he was intense! It is a great Christmas story and I look forward to reading more of this series! Good job Eve Langlais.
I dont like aliens or instant love stories but this series still manages to capture my interest. I love the sassy snarky characters and the language barriers between the human women and the alien men make me have laugh out loud moments. Your so interested in their back and forth sassy remarks that you forget its about aliens until someone mentions the purple skin color. Though purple is my favorite color. I will certainly read more of these purple guys in this series.
This novella, like the rest of the series, is fun, hot, with lots of action of all kinds… and a sexy purple alien dude! Love them, especially when they act like barbarians. Then it’s simple: cue hilarity! And Jilly is an awesome heroine for Vhyl.
Lots of Holiday fun in this one, and in the special short story that follows.
A very hilarious read. That contained action, adventure, and of course steamy romance. Overall enjoyable and entertaining read. Can't wait to check out the other books in this series.
Grandma says, "Poor Santa, that's what happens when you make promises, wear that cap with pride, and keep your hands off that cookie jar! Freaking purple aliens are nothing but trouble. ;-)"
Good. Not as good as some of the other books in this series but still good. I liked the h and how she acted, I also liked how the H thought sometimes. :)
Like the rest of this series, hilarity around every corner. And purple, crazy alien dudes. If you like steamy comedic romance, Eve Langlais is your gal.
