A Nurse for the Wolfman

Rate this book
What happens when a nurse falls for the wolfman?

The job offer is a dream come true. Three times her usual salary. Free meals and a suite. The only catch? Margaret can’t tell anyone about it.

Hidden in the Rockies, the clinic is well protected and…odd. It doesn’t take her long to realize the doctors and scientists are up to no good. Especially once she meets Luke.

Her patient is an angry man who used to be a soldier. Now, he’s something else. A savage beast with gentle eyes that glow green when he’s agitated.

What has he become?

And will she be next?

Mad scientists and genetic experiments!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌏
Character development: 😕🙂😖😘🥰
Narrator: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Margaret - she was offered a position with Chimaeram Clinics, six figures for six months work with an option to stay on. She just came out of a terrible relationship where her ex was cheating but accused her of the same and he wouldn’t leave her alone. So the job came at a time when she needed to get away. There were a lot of perks including a place to live, laundry service, and more. Even if all the non-disclosure agreements made her a bit apprehensive.

The Hero: Luke - He grew up in the foster system since his parents were drug addicts, he joined the army when he came of age. He was a good soldier who was injured in battle, but the doctors couldn’t repair his limp or his injured fingers. A year later, Luke was offered a one in a million chance to fix his injuries. He agreed and it was “the worst decision he ever made”.

The Story: Margaret meets Luke at the Chimaeram clinic deep in the Rocky mountains. She figured the clinic was a government run top secret facility or rehab for the rich. She was surprised to find herself in a nightmare facility. Luke has been there for years, he has made numerous attempts to escape to no avail. He is mocked by the staff on a regular basis. He wanted to die.

I usually don’t even bother with audiobooks that don’t have both a male and a female narrator, but I got a good deal on this one and the rest in this series and it is narrated by Troy Duran who is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a very deep voice and speaks clearly and adapts his style to the genre of book he is reading, which I really like.

I like the fact that Margaret and Luke get to know each other as nurse and patient. He knows the situation he is in and the fact that he will never get free. Margaret has yet to figure out that she is working at a place that is doing illegal experiments on humans and keeping them hostage. Every time Luke mentions something about it, she thinks he is just sick and it is a part of his delusions. Even after they start sharing dreams together.

I have read this trope before (mad scientists doing genetic experiments and keeping people captive) but I liked this story. I like the fact that they are deep in the mountains and the romance is good, not insta-love. The two main characters get to know each other over time and Margaret falls for him before she finds out what he is.

A Nurse for the Wolf Man by Eve Langlais

1st in the Chimera Secrets series.
To be a paranormal romance, continue only through the first two pages of the epilogue.
Do Not read past that.

Cliffhanger ahead caused by evil and unethical doctors.

A nurse is hired to work in the middle of woods and mountains. When her patient finally wakes up, his “animalistic” appeal is irresistible. Their mutual dreams allow them to get closer while still under cameras and guards.
But strange happenings around the overly secured hospital campus make her question the doctor’s practices.

On the darker side of this author’s writing style.

Margaret takes a nursing job in a secretive facility in the mountains that pays her more money than she'll ever make in any other job. The doctors, guards and the guy running the place are all secretive and the guards all have guns with sedative darts in case the patients get out of hand.

Luke got hurt while in the military and after being discharged he knew he was too broken to be able to do anything like his old life ever again. So when a doctor comes to him and tells him he can fix everything wrong with him, he jumps at the chance at this experimental treatment.

After being experimented on by the doctors in the secret hospital for years, Luke has had enough and is so volatile that he's kept shacked to a bed under armed guards at all times. In comes nurse Margaret who gets him to eat, talk and be civil after a while. Only she doesn't know that he's only being nice because the person that runs the place has told Luke if he doesn't comply that she'll be hurt so what else can he do.

After a while they really do start to care for one another and when they start to have dreams together at night, they can talk without the doctors knowing everything that they're saying. There's something weird going on at this place but at first Margaret doesn't see it and just thinks that Luke is being paranoid and not being cooperative. Little by little she starts to see the truth of what's going on there and begins to think that Luke is right that they'll never let him leave so they'll have to escape.

This book had me on the edge of my seat wondering how far the staff was going to take things and wondering what would happen next. But then I got to the end of this book and was shocked at the ending. Utterly shocked at that twist. Never saw it coming even though I probably should have. It actually made me a little mad for a minute but then since this is the first book in this series I'm hoping that we get to see these two in subsequent books and find out what happens with them. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens and finding out what else is going on at this secret facility. The experiments alone were enough to make me cringe and subjects once we find out what's been done to them, creeped me out at times. This was a great book to begin a new series.

The first book in what I think will be a fun series to read. Love the cover too - very different! Well written and not to be taken too seriously, this is a paranormal romance set in a secret clinic where the doctors are experimenting with human and animal DNA - very interesting. So as a consequence, our hero is a wolfman...!! Lots of steamy romance, though it mostly occurs in dream sequences. There is a HEA of sorts, but the story is ongoing and I'm sure our couple will make more appearances in future books. I look forward to reading more from this author.

The blurb caught me right away, and I'm pleased to say that the book lived up to it. A nurse goes to work for a secret medical facility and learns they're conducting genetic experiments on the patients. Of course, she gets close to one special patient. I really enjoyed the details in this story; it made it feel very real. Nice build-up of tension. A fast, easy, entertaining read. Highly recommend.

Am seeing a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews and I honestly can't understand why. I don't even know why I continued to read it when I didn't like it. It was awful and am glad I didn't pay money for it. Wouldn't recommend this book at all. Won't be reading rest of series.

Interesting premise - the H with severe injuries giving someone permission to experiment on him.

The h, for various reasons, signed a contract to work in a top secret facility for a period of time. The H, by this time, has become enlightened to what was done to him, and to his existence. He's one of the more...stable...experiments. Many have escaped and proven dangerous. (why the genius in charge keeps experimenting... it's the old adage - when you keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

Anyway, the h gets assigned to his care, and manages to gain his attention in other ways (as was intended, though you don't get confirmation of that until the end).

The parts I have an issue with are:
that he keeps telling her he's a monster, and that bad things happen here. And yet, in spite of evidence that he might be telling her the truth - she's attacked twice by experiments - she refuses to believe him, basically telling him that he needs his meds adjusted. Well, up until she's grabbed by a couple of experiments and he lets his inner wolf out to hunt them down. Then she freaks.

and that at no point after their escape does it occur to them that they may be being tracked.

I'd also add that I spent a bit of time pondering connections between this and other series from the author.

Eh, this was fine I suppose. It felt incredibly incomplete, and I'm sure that's because it's all going to be expanded on in the rest of the series, but still, it should have had more. Even the romance was sub-par; it was definitely less of a love story and more of a "ooo u sexc lets do sexc times heehee". Unfortunately I wont be carrying on with this series, it doesn't compel me enough to carry on.

If it seems too good to be true...

it definitely is. Both Luke and "Flo" learn this lesson the hard way.

An enjoyable escapist read that ends with a HEA...or does it?

Ok but incomplete

This is more like part 1 than a complete novel. The idea is ok but the focus is on the relationship and there is no resolution to the story arc and the HEA is left in doubt. The writing at times lapses into retelling which does make it hard to connect.

Despite the fact it was VERY OBVIOUS from the get go that she was working for textbook bad guys, she continued almost right to the end believing they were doing medical good. My biggest peeve with this book was that she LITERALLY had no REAL motivation to take the job other than what felt like personal greed. If she had been given a better motive like massive debt or a mountain of hospital bills or a sick relative, that would have given her character more incentive to believe the lie and keep on working. Otherwise she was just a dumbass ignoring the blatantly obvious for MONTHS!
Also the end where they escape but don’t really is a cop out. Not to mention they ignored all the bad signs like easy escape, too long of a recovery from her lake dive and the whole soup and message bit at the end. Also where there drugs he was being given at the clinic that stopped him getting all hairy? Because it kind of seemed like it with the comment at the end about him getting hairier.

Dr Frankenstein Chimera

The first book in a new series, this is sort of like Dr Frankenstein but with gene splicing.
Luke agrees to join Dr. Chimera at a remote clinic to get the use of his legs back and is looked after by nurse Margaret, building a bond between them, even as Luke wants to Escape.
I like the hybrid experimentation stuff, and Luke, as patient and prisoner, is pretty gruff until he meets his nurse.
The chemistry between them is great, he is sexy with a sense of humour and she is smart and compassionate.
It ends on the cliffhanger epilogue that promises a fun series

Wolfman Wow

Exciting story filled with secrets and lies. Margaret is hired as a nurse in a research lab hidden in a remote mountain range. The truth of what is actually going on is kept from her. When Luke tries telling her, she tells him he is paranoid and dismisses his claims. Can they have a future or are they destined to be kept here at the clinic forever. Loved it.

You and Me!!!

Luke Harris, a former soldier got turned against his will by doctors he trusted now he was something he never thought anyone could like let alone love. That was until he met his new nurse, a beautiful and funny woman with a smile to die for.

Margaret Henley was offered a dream job by Adrian Chimera, her salary was three times more than her usual one. She had a place to stay and meals at her disposition, there was only one catch. She couldn't tell anyone about it. She took the job and drove to the clinic which was located in the Rockies.

She knew the job was too good to be true and she was right especially when she discovered what the doctors and scientists were doing. But her wariness was reinforced after she met Luke and uncovered what Adrian and the others had been doing to the patients.

Wow the twists and turns were beautifully done. Loved the bond between Margaret and Becky, I only wished the latter would have talked up the former about what she was doing for their boss. Luke finally found love and they did everything to never lose it.

A NURSE FOR THE WOLFMAN is the first book in Eve Langlais' new series, CHIMERA SECRETS . It was riveting, fun, passionate and a wonderful ride. Eve Langlais did a splendid job! 5++++

Am loving this new series! After being discharged from the military because of injuries sustained, Luke falls into a pit of despair. When a mysterious doctor offers to make him whole again, he takes him up on the offer. Little does he knows that he will no longer be human.

Nurse Margaret is offered a great opportunity at a remote medical facility. Great pay, easy work, what could go wrong? Sparks fly the first time Margaret and Luke meet, but they try to ignore them. Too bad the evil doctor is too aware.

This book features a strong heroine, a damaged hero, but manages to stay away from the stereotypical formula. I found myself truly wondering what was going to happen next – instead of seeing the ending a mile away.

This author is always a one-click, automatic buy of everything she writes. This new series is proving to be no different – can’t wait until the next one!

Good start to a new series!

Doctors playing God has Luke irrevocably changed. He’s no longer just human. And because he’s had enough and just wants to be free, and they don’t want him to go, he’s labeled a difficult patient and tied down. He meets Margaret, a newly hired nurse to the facility and the connection there is instant.

I like how this story is so promising. Without the flippant and snarky heroines of old (which gets old when almost all of the heroines in the series are like that). Margaret is calm, levelheaded, with just the right amount of courage and a sprinkle of sass. Luke is steady and strong and while alpha enough, just wants to be get out. You can feel the need to be with each other and well away from the facility.

I didn’t expect that twist (?) in the end. Naughty bad Chimera. Why can’t he just leave them all alone??

Looking forward to the next book!!

A Nurse for the Wolfman was a real treat. As soon as I saw the cover (a throwback to pulp horror novels) from Eve Langlais (current-day paranormal romance queen) I knew I was going to love this book, and boy do I!

This book has some edge-of-your seat, heart-pounding, scary moments. It also has a romance that weaves in through it all and makes you really root for the characters to find their way to a happily ever after. Of course, over the whole thing, setting up the Chimera series, is the creepy and mysterious clinic, potentially nefarious doctors, and helpless patients. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see how it all turns out!

I admit it, I have a thing for evil scientists and their experiments. So of course I was going to make a reading this series a MUST read. This book sets the tone for the series and what a tome it is! I thoroughly enjoyed the interplay between the main characters. And in an effort for full disclosure, I would totally have been like Margaret and trying to get Luke to take MORE meds. :)

I hate that the story kinda left you wondering about how they fared long term, but after reading the second book in the series I realized that they will be updated some in each story.

This is a definite brain dead- enjoy life story.

This was a dnf at the 30% - this book seemed very unlike the author. Eve generally gives us snappy, fun quick reads. This was boring, plodding, the characters selfish and oblivious to anything but their own quick buck/get well agenda. This read lacked the joy and pep I have come to associate with this author.

I will really be questioning ever investing in this author again thanks to this dull read

5 ⭐️s, such a captivating story!

Ah! This new series is SO creative and interesting, and thought provoking and captivating. I couldn’t get enough, devouring page after page to learn more and more. The interplay between characters made it so hard to discern who to like and who was the villain, was “this” real or all part of a delusion. So so so good.
