In E.A. Pierce’s debut novel, a young woman is out to prove she is more than a shallow trust-fund baby. Until an unexpected twist propels her into a journey of self-discovery with surprising results.

Meadow is determined to build a successful travel log business of her own from the ground up. Until she meets a tall, brooding, and beautiful man who threatens to send her plans sideways. The story follows Meadow as she experiences Iceland, connecting with several unique characters whose experiences and views profoundly impact her own. Meanwhile, Salvar, a complicated and broody adventure environmental enthusiast, opens Meadow’s mind and heart to the possibility of lasting connection and the merging of two worlds. But will their collective baggage allow them the happiness they both unconsciously crave?

Pierce creates relatable characters whose personal growth doesn’t erase their faults. Filled with the expected: will they won’t they angst, misguided selfishness, and fear-driven immaturity common in the romance genre, Meadow and Salvar’s willingness to persevere and grow is both commendable and admirable to the point where you can’t help but root for them. As they struggle to succeed and overcome their stubborn and misplaced hesitancy, you’ll be treated to the natural delights of Iceland beautifully crafted with skillful prose.

Although romance is not typically my cup of tea, I will guiltily confess my complete enjoyment of reading this book. After a challenging time in our human history, this story offers an enjoyably refreshing opportunity to be whisked away for a European holiday—precisely what I needed. Who knows, maybe I’ll continue to dip my toes into the romance fiction pool, finding what works for me and what doesn’t. Books like Finding True North by E.A. Pierce are fun and engaging reading. This author is definitely one to watch.

Meadow and Salvar's Story . . .

Finding True North is not a fleeting glimpse at love. Meadow and Salvar’s story will take you deeper into something that is truly meaningful. The two first met at an airport in Iceland. Salvar, co-owner of the Fox Fire Hotel, was asked by his partner Magnus to pick her up, but she was late. When a preoccupied woman slammed into his back, knocking herself to the floor, he found the woman he was there for. But a steward walked up and insisted she come to the office to take care of the “incident” at the gate. Salvar kept an eye on the office to make sure she was okay. This was all pretty strange.

They headed out in the snow and wind and stopped at a fish and chips place for food which they ate in the back of his SUV (which was warmer than the seats provided at the fish and chips spot). She was almost in a trance as she looked at the sky and lights, startling when he touched her shoulder. They would be going half-way to the hotel, quite a distance away, and would stay at a mid-point location before they finished the journey the next day. She had a lengthy list of things to see, well prepared to enjoy her vacation, and he was proud to be able to show off the land he called “home”.

The story line is good, pulling the reader in to experience the author’s well-written book. The characters themselves are very likable.
