Better than Future State: The Next Batman. At least some of these stories have a beginning, middle and end. Too many of these Future State seem to just be the middle of the story leaving you feeling lost. There's no explanations why things are happening or even an ending.

The Flash - ★★★ - by Brandon Vietti, Dale Eaglesham, Brandon Peterson, & Will Conrad
Wally is possessed and killing people. Barry and the other speedsters are trying to stop him with the Rogues weapons now that they have all lost their speed. Why does DC have such hate for Wally West? The guy was The Flash for an entire generation of fans yet DC seems determined to drag him through the muck every chance they get. Anyway this had some cool elements but I didn't like how the story ended. It's not really ended. I guess it will end in Future State: Teen Titans which, of course, isn't in this trade.

Aquaman - ★★★★★ - by Brandon Thomas & Daniel Sampere
Easily the best of the Future State stories I've read. Jackson Hyde has graduated to Aquaman and is training Aqualass. They are lost in The Confluence bouncing from world to world connected by the Great Ocean. I loved this one.

Justice League Dark - ★★★ - by Ram V. & Marcio Takara
Merlin has stolen most of the magic in the world with only the few members of Justice League Dark left to defy him. This was just OK. I honestly expected something a little more interesting from Ram V. This was another stories that felt just like the middle of the story.

Green Lantern - ★★★ - by Geoffrey Thorne & Tom Raney
John Stewart, Salaak, and G'nort lead a resistance as aliens flee a planet overrun with Khund. The Lanterns no longer have their power rings and G'nort has been reimagined to a Chewbacca type character instead of comedy relief. This was all pretty one note and I didn't get making G'nort a badass Wolverine type.

Tales of the Green Lantern Corps - ★★★★ - by Ryan Cady & Sami Basri
Jessica Cruz is stranded in her sector space station with a useless power ring when three members of the Sinestro Corp come calling. I liked the horror-tinged angle of the story and Sami Basri's art is always top notch.

Tales of the Green Lantern Corps - ★★★★★ - by Ernie Altbacker & Clayton Henry
Guy Gardner is stranded on a backwoods planet in a religious war when his power ring craps out on him. This was a lot of fun.

Tales of the Green Lantern Corps - ★★★ - by Josie Campbell & Andie Tong
Teen Lantern and Mogo are crossing a vast expanse of nothing in space when the central power battery dies leaving them stranded. Andie Tong's art is great.

Tales of the Green Lantern Corps - ★★★ - by Robert Venditti & Dexter Soy
Hal Jordan leaves Earth on a space ship to travel to Oa to find out what happened to their power rings.

Justice League - ★★★ - by Joshua Williamson & Robson Rocha
The new Justice League consists mainly of the next generation of the core Justice League members. They are having problems due to the League's rules of hiding their identities from one another and no fraternization.

A good book. It did like this book, but in places unfinished. The Flash story is a perfect example of this. Yes it does say that this will continue but just a little too much unfinished business.

The Barry Allen has lost the Speed force, and his family. All he has left is science, the weapons of his opponent's weapons, and hope. A first part of this story.

Aquaman/Aquawoman? I am not usually a fan of the Aqua family, but I really enjoyed this action packed story. The story was ok but the action snd artwork are great.

Green Lantern. What has happened to the Green Lanterns power rings? We will not find out here but they don't work. That does not mean the Lanterns have given up the fight. John Stuart leads a suicide rescue mission. Out numbered and out gunned but he still will not give up.

The Tales of the Green Lanterns. One depowered Green Lantern against three Yellow Lanterns. A Green Lantern sent to stop a world war, not a good time to lise your powers. The youngest Lantern teams up with oldest snd biggest. Will they even reach their destination without their powers? No Green Lantern book would be complete without Hal Jordan. Where has he been? Can even he find/fight his way across the universe to find out what happened?

The final story stars the new Justice League. They have learned to keep things professional they won't repeat the mistake that destroyed the old Justice League. Then their greatest enemies have been destroyed they start their investigation. Now are they out of their league.

The final story of the book really brought the Future State universe together for me. I go wish there were more answers or decisive endings in the other stories this would have been an easy five stars then.

Four two-issue mini-series by 10 writers and 11 artists are collected in this anthology of superhero gobbledygook. Following the most recent big crossover event -- Dark Nights: Death Metal, which I haven't read yet -- we're given an epilogue of a possible future peopled with new people taking up the mantles of classic heroes like Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Aquaman, etc. Everything is all dark and bleak, but the new heroes hammer home the theme of hope in the face of doom.

The art is a fine enough example of house style adherence, but the writing is pretty mediocre, with the Flash chapters being almost unreadable.

I know there's a complex history of aborted storylines and editorial 180s behind this, but it mostly stinks of the old let's throw everything at the wall and see what sticks approach to comic book publishing. It's a funny coincidence that I'm currently posting #ThrowbackThursday reviews from DC's similar Tangent Comics event from the 1990s that imagined a world of new characters bearing familiar old names.

Future State: Justice League is an anthology of six series that are a part of the greater Future State event, published by DC Comics. This trade paperback collects: Future State: Justice League #1–2, Future State: Aquaman #1–2, Future State: The Flash #1–2, and Future State: Green Lantern #1–2.

Justice League (★★★☆☆) is a two-issue storyline (Future State: Justice League #1–2) has the new Justice League: Andrina Curry as Aquawoman, Jace Fox as Batman, Jess Chambers as The Flash, Green Lantern Jo Mullein, Jon Kent as Superman, and Yara Flor as Wonder Woman trying to solve a mystery that happened at the base – the murder of the Legion of Doom. It is penned by Joshua Williamson and penciled by Robson Rocha.

Justice League Dark (★★★☆☆) is a two-part storyline that serves as the back-up story in Future State: Justice League (#1–2) has Zatanna and Detective Chimp, who hosts Etrigan, trying to stop Merlin of Arthurian Legends from taking all magic. To aid them, are: Khalid Nassour as Doctor Fate, John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, and Rory Regan as Ragman. It is penned by Ram V and penciled by Marcio Takara.

The Confluence (★★★★☆) is a two-part storyline (Future State: Aquaman #1–2) has Jackson Hyde as Aquaman being held prisoner by the Neptunians – extraterrestrials from the planet Neptune as he recalls his mentor-student relationship with Andrina Curry as Aqualass – now Aquawoman of the Justice League. It is penned by Brandon Thomas and penciled by Daniel Sampere.

Death Race (★★★☆☆) is a two-part storyline (Future State: The Flash #1–2) has Barry Allen as The Flash with the support of his team: Avery Ho, Jay Garrick, Bart Allen as Impulse, and Max Mercury – all depowered trying to stop a possessed Wally West from killing people – really DC, why all the Wally hate? It is penned by Brandon Vietti and co-penciled by Dale Eaglesham (#1), Brandon Peterson and Will Conrad (#2).

Last Lanterns (★★★☆☆) is a two-part storyline (Future State: Green Lantern #1–2) has a depowered John Stewart and his team, composed of several alien warriors, including two former Green Lanterns in G'nort and Salakk, protecting the Shaar, the people of Corex D'Shaar, from an assault of the Khunds - brutal barbarians who just want to bath in blood. It is penned by Geoffrey Thorne and penciled by Tom Raney.

The Taking of Sector 0123 (★★★★☆) is a one-shot story and the first of four back-up stories in Future State: Green Lantern (#1) has Jessica Cruz trapped on a Space Station on Sector 0123, when her ring died, but even without her ring and her powers, she is able to defend the station against three Yellow Lanterns. It is penned by Ryan Cady and penciled by Sami Basri.

Book of Guy (★★★★☆) is a one-shot story and the second of four back-up stories in Future State: Green Lantern (#1) has Guy Gardner being sent to Rerlin of Sector 0345 to stop a holy war, when his ring depowers and is trapped on the planet – worse yet, he becomes the prophet – the religious leader of the planet. It is penned by Ernie Altbacker and penciled by Clayton Henry.

Dead Space (★★★☆☆) is a one-shot story and the third of four back-up stories in Future State: Green Lantern (#2) has Keli Quintela as Teen Lantern on Mogo – the living planet Green Lantern traveling through the vast nothingness of space when their rings depowers and it is up to Quintela to revive Mogo and stop an alien invasion. It is penned by Josie Campbell and penciled by Andie Tong.

Recon (★★★☆☆) is a one-shot story and the fourth and final back-up stories in Future State: Green Lantern (#2) has Hal Jordan leaving Earth for Oa to do some recon as he has lost all contact with the other Lanterns and his ring has been on the fritz lately. Traveling thorough the dangers of space, he manages to crash land on Oa to see it decimated. He is confronted by a very angry Green Lantern Jo Mullein. It is penned by Robert Venditti and penciled by Dexter Soy.

For the most part, these short stories are written and constructed moderately well – far better than the previous collections I have read in this event (so far). The first half of the trade paperback deals with the individual Justice League members that doesn't have a big enough story for their individual trades (Aquaman and The Flash – not thrilled how they handled Wally West – again), while the second half deals with most of the Green Lanterns of Earth when suddenly their Power Battery on Oa is destroyed, missing are: Kyle Rayner and Simon Baz, who gets the briefest of mentions.

As for the pencilers, there are far too many to comment or to form a cohesive flow as their styles are drastic from one another. They have rather distinct styles, but most if not all of them are rather pleasing to the eye as there is no outright outlier of terrible art. My only quibble is found in Future State: The Flash #1–2, where they have different pencilers for each issue, which I prefer one penciler or team of pencilers for the entire run.

All in all, Future State: Justice League is a moderate set of stories apart of the greater Future State event within the Justice League members and the Green Lantern Family.

After the dull and repetitive Future State: The Next Batman, I would have been just as happy skipping the rest of the series, but I already had this one out from the library, so I decided to give it a shot, and it was definitely better. Not great, but better.

The Flash. I don't understand why Wally West has been continuously character assassinated throughout the Rebirth era at DC, and this is sadly more of the same. Other than that, though, this is the type of epic story that was missing in The Next Batman volume of stories. We get a story that's worth reading, with an interesting new status quo, and sort of with an ending. Well, Barry's story ends, but annoyingly the rest of the narrative is continued in Teen Titans, which isn't even in this volume!? What's up with that? [3/5]

Aquaman. A delightful pair of new characters offer the next generation of Aquaman, and they're also placed in an intriguing setting. Yes, this feels like a setup, like the majority of Future States have, but it's a pretty neat one [4+/5].

Justice League Dark. This also has the epic scope that Future State really needed, but the twists for these future characters are surprisingly minor (Detective Chimp excepted), and the fact that this is yet another story with a non-ending, presumably because it was setup for a run, is frustrating [3/5].

Green Lantern. The Green Lanterns have lost their rings yet again, but this is kind of an interesting twist, because they're out there shooting and killing. Well, it was an interesting twist for about half an issue, and increasingly dull after that [2/5].

More Green Lanterns. Green Lantern shorts. Jessica is a great, powerful story. Guy is just kind of fun. Teen Lantern is somewhat interesting, but doesn't go anywhere fast. And then there's a Hal Jordan story without an ending: maybe it's continued somewhere else? Who knows? Who cares? [3/5].

Justice League. This comic makes it obvious that the rest of the Future States are maybe all the same timeline, but they're at different times. That's not at all confusing, but it's good to see some connections. Beyond that, it's a fair story, but just as it makes me maybe want more, yet another volume is over [3/5].

Though better than the bad Next Batman, this volume continues to show the deep flaws of Future State: that so much of it is a setup for a comic line that's never going to happen, rather than an actual event in itself. Do I need to read more of this? I hope I can resist the urge, because it's largely a waste of time.

Another week, another Future State collection. This one's definitely down to the lower end of the spectrum, unfortunately.

The titular Justice League series is fantastic. Williamson's grasp of all of these new characters and how they interact with each other is established from the first page, and it really sells them as both a young team and as character I want to see more of. The Justice League Dark back-up from Ram V is also fantastic, and has plot points that'll reverberate back into the JLD back-ups in Justice League when it resumes after this.

The Flash mini-series is, unfortunately, bad. There's a lot of allusions to stuff that unfolds in other series, but it all fails to land because Barry Allen comes off as useless and gullible. Definitely my least favourite story.

And then Green Lantern's main story is bloated with dialogue I didn't care about, but has a good selection of back-up stories that keep it interesting, even if they're all one and dones. The Jessica Cruz one is especially good though.

This is more of a 2.5, but we'll round up because the Justice League stories are so damn good.

At this point, I've read Future State: The Next Batman and Future State: Dark Detective both of which focus on a future version of Gotham that has been turned into a police state.

In this book, the stories focus on different members of the future Justice League, yet in the same "universe". However, it's "just" an alternate future where offspring or others have taken up the mantle of the heroes we know today. There doesn't seem to be any overarching reason or motivation other than to have the next generation of heroes take the spotlight. It feels like the creators were given carte blanche and some ran with it, while others just wasted it.

My favorites were:
Aquaman/Aquawoman - a surprise because he's not normally my go to, but the way the story was written just had a unique feel. It includes a nice relationship between the two characters and I liked the art as well.
Justice League Dark - Really, this doesn't feel anything like "Future State" but serves as an epilogue of sorts to the series by Tynion and Ram V. If you read and liked that, you definitely need to read this. It's a logical conclusion and just as good.
Book of Guy - straight to the point. It's short but offers the right mix of laughter and reverence to Guy.

Average:
Justice League - written by Joshua Williams it has the right tone that he's able to evoke: fun, cool, reverent to the characters, action. Very straight up the middle entertainment. The art's pretty good too. He packs a lot in a relatively short story.
The Flash and Tale of the Green Lantern with Jessica Cruz - both were good, solid art.
Recon with Hal Jordan - Also excellent art but it's so short you don't really understand what is going on. Feels like something is missing.
Dead Space - meh. Again, feels like this was part of something else which wasn't included.

Ugh:
Last Lanterns with John Stewart - Hated the art. The story just felt so mundane, with overused tropes of him being a hero without his ring, trying to save people against impossible odds.

This may be it for Future State. I have the Superman sitting here but I'm not sure I even want to spend the time reading it.

I reluctantly and regrettably ended up reading most of Future State. A lot of neat ideas that ended up "fine".

I read these as floppies, but this trade collects:

Justice League #1-2
Future State: The Flash: Death Race #1-2
Future State: Green Lantern #1-2

Justice League - 2/5
Justice League Dark - 3/5 I'm not up to date on the magic world in DC, but I'd imagine this would've been pretty cool.

Flash - 2/5

Green Lantern - Didn't Read.

I've never read the Dark Metal or any other Future State storylines, so for the most part I was completely lost. Some of the storylines were intriguing but so open ended it felt like it was a waste of time. I enjoyed the Jessica Cruz story and wanted to know what happens next, as well as the new Justice League! Oh well.

English/Spanish review:

Justice League's about the future core and only members of the Justice League. For some mistake commited by the old league they have a rule of not revealing their identities to each other but that belief is challenged with the comeback of the Hyperclan.
I did like the new characters, they look amazing and seem interesting. The only exception was Batman and Jon who were literally their predecessors but with a different design.
I don't like either that this story was just two issues long. I feel like it'd have been way better if it lasted longer. I don't know, maybe if there were less damn GL's on this book that could've happened.
The Hyperclan are a great villain idea for them and their trust issues. Plus, they haven't been around for very long so there could be a story on reasonable hate towards the League. I think this was a missed opportunity. 3 out of 5 stars

Justice League Dark. Merlin's gone bad and has stolen all magic from other users. If they do try to do magic he'll kill them. This was fine. I don't know much about magic DC's side but it was compelling. 3 out of 5 stars.

Flash. Wally West is believed to be possessed by some entity since he's killing people non-stop. The rest of the Flash family is either dead or powerless since Monster Wally stole their powers so the only thing they can rely on is the guns od their rogues, science and hope.
I was mad about how DC keeps fucking Wally up but now I'm starting to be curious about what the fuck are all of the editorial thinking. It's really like they hate him.
There's interesting elements here. I really dig the idea of using a depowered Barry just relying on wits and science. It's a pity because instead of a cool story with that, the writer decides to make the most depressing Flash story ever. I was so mad with that ending. And if that wasn't enough, the story drags on for another two volumes. I hated this storyline. Who the fuck wants to read such a depressing thing? 1 out of 5 stars

Aquaman. OH BOY I LIVE FOR THIS. Jackson has become the new Aquaman, and apart of looking really cool,he's training Arthur's kid to become the new Aquawoman until they get lost on the Multiversal ocean. There's great character development, drama and everything looked astonishing on the book. By far the best Future State's story. 5 out of 5 stars.

Green Lantern. The lanterns have lost the power ring's powers and have to rely on war-like tactics to save a planet from some invaders. I couldn't care less about this. 2 out of 5 stars.

Green Lantern's Tales. I didn't care much about any of this. They seem to be pilots to later GL's books so not much happened on them. The best were Guy's mission on a rock age planet. That was entertaining. And other one that I liked was Jessica Cruz fighting three Yellow Lanterns while being on a barren ship and powerless. 3 out of 5 stars for those.

Yet again I'm in the minority opinion here I think...because I reallllly enjoyed this collection. I actually found some of the books in the collection to be some of the strongest from Future State. This collection features the different Justice League teams as well as the Future State stories of the major JL members that are not the Trinity (Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman). Also, weirdly the goodreads description doesn't mention that this includes the Aquaman Future State book but the official description from DC says it does.

Justice League: 4/5
This was fun! Which is exactly what a crave from a Justice League story. I think this one fleshed out the personalities of the new JL members really well and gave us a taste of what these characters are like. My main complaint would be that the New Batman (Jace Fox) and new Superman (Jon Kent) are soooo similar to their predecessors in personality. It makes a lot of sense for Jon who is the son of Superman but it was a little boring to have a carbon copy of Bruce Wayne when I know that Jace Fox has a personality of his own. Like many others I loved Yara aka the new Wonder Woman and Bolt the new Flash. I also think Andy aka Aquawoman and Sojourner aka Green Lantern were GREAT.

Justice League Dark: 3/5
I'm a little sad about this one. It was decent. I LOVE the Justice League Dark and I love the magic using characters in DC so I was really looking forward to this one. The story was just okay though. I don't have much to say about this one really. I also felt like it ended on a note that I didn't care for. This one had Future State syndrome as I now like to call it. Too grimdark, too depressing, and ending on a note that feels unfinished. It just makes reading a few of these titles a little too depressing when they could otherwise be really fun.

Aquaman: 5/5
THIS IS WHAT I WANTED. THIS IS WHAT FUTURE STATE COULD'VE BEEN. I loved this story. I don't even know how to review this one because I simply just loved it. It was fun and colorful and action packed. It had that depressing feel a lot of these titles have BUT it had a hopeful tone and hopeful and nice ending. It was just great in my opinion. I also loved getting to meet Andy, Aquaman and Mera's daughter, aka the future Aquawoman, in different phases of her life. We got to see her as a kid, a teen, and later in the Justice League story as an adult. Of all the characters in Future State that we get to meet in new, and never before seen, capacities she is the one I feel like I understand the most. We really got a feel for what her personality is and will be like. I'm also a major Jackson Hyde fan so it was really nice to get and see him featured heavily. The art was also really beautiful. This is one of the Future State books I really recommend anyone check out if they are just picking up a few.

The Flash: 3/5
Meh. I'm not the biggest Flash person. Mainly because I think the Flash characters are constantly given shitty stories. I like the characters but their stories never really hold up. I wasn't the biggest fan of the characterization of Barry here and YET AGAIN we get a horrible Wally story. Why does DC hate Wally so much. Bart deserved better. This was another unnecessarily depressing one and I don't really feel like it expanded the world of Future State that much. This ties heavily into the Teen Titans storyline which was one of the things I really appreciated. I really enjoyed how a lot of these Future State books really built off of each other. This one was ok. I'm giving it a 3 star rating because while I really did not love this I did have a decent time reading it. It also had some cool ideas. I loved Barry using his enemies weapons to try and catch Wally and I liked umm well I liked that.

Green Lantern: 3.5/5
I actually had a good time reading this. I love John Stewart and I enjoyed his story here. This was just a fun alien warfare story and while I don't think it was anything special I always enjoy when DC does stories like this. The action sequences were fun and the story was entertaining. Some of the new characters introduced here were cool and I'm hoping this means they will pop up in the Infinite Frontier stories (it looks good that some of them might because Gold Beetle, who was introduced in Black Adam, has already appeared in the new Flash series!)

Jessica Cruz: 4/5
This was really fun. I love Jessica Cruz and I feel like she was really allowed to show off her badassery here. My only complaint about this one is the ending. I think the ending was good but it just ends and then there is no talk about in any of the other Green Lantern stories...lame! But This was fun which is what I wanted.

Guy Gardner: 4/5
I really liked Guy's hijinks in this one. We get to see how much of an A-hole Guy can be but he is still doing good. Just in his own selfish way. This was silly and fun which was appreciated in the darkness that was Future State. I also thought the ending of this one was fitting and fun. It was abrupt but it felt purposefully abrupt and it worked for the story.

Teen Lantern: 3.5/5
This is a sad one for me. I love Teen Lantern. I think she was a really fun part of the recent Young Justice series (BRING IT BACK PLEASE) and I'm excited to see how she gets more and more incorporated into the Green Lantern mythos. But, this story didn't shine as much as I hoped. Don't get me wrong, I think this was fun but it didn't do much to expand on Teen Lantern OR the Future State stories. But for what it was, I liked it.

Hal Jordan: 3/5
This one pissed me off. It started off cool, Hal jumping around the universe, giving us glimpses of what was going on (the giant octopus was fun) but then it just...ends. This story was just a freaking teaser for Infinite Frontier. A lot of these stories were but none were so blunt about it like this was. It ended up not being a story at all just a preview for the upcoming Green Lantern series...if I hadn't enjoyed Hal's journey around the universe so much in the first part of this story I would probably lower my rating of it. Maybe I'm just in a generous mood.

I can't speak for everyone but I actually quite like Future State, it's a breathe of fresh air. For the most part it gave us different interpretations of heroes, which we kind of needed as for the most part Rebirth was kind of dodgy. Now we have this nice interlude before a fresh New DC universe!

The Flash 2*
2 Stars feels very generous for this story, it starts off with dragged Wally West though the mud, yet again. This time he's gone fully killer mode and has started killing other speedsters, it's up to A depower Barry Allen to take him on.

I hated the first issue of this but actually liked the second one, focusing on Barry instead of taking a dump on Wally works better for me.

Aquaman 5*
There is a new Aquaman in town, the old Aqualad, I'm fine with him taking on the mantle. He's taken Aquaman's daughter under his wing to train the next generation, they get pulled into different realities and Kaldur becomes imprisoned.

Loved it, thought it was great, shame we couldn't get more of this.

Justice League Dark 4*
Ram V has taken over JLD so hopefully this story is part of his new run, I thought it was really good. Merlin has taken over the world and the League has been disbanded. They're on a search for magic and they're trying to convince Etrigan to join their fight. As he's old friends with Merlin there is a struggle within him, it perfectly adapted the old JLD team into something worthwhile. Aside from being a drunk Detective Chimp really added nothing to the story but in this he had some great moments, heck even some words for wisdom. I'm very much looking forward to Ram V's ongoing stories, if this is anything to go by they'll be great.

Green Lantern
Even though it was only 2 issues, it's split between numerous characters and stories. The only thing that they all have in common is the central power battery has been broken, so all the Lanterns are powerless in their adventures.

The Last Lanterns - John Stewart 1*
John is stranded on a planet fighting purple dudes, with a bunch of other lanterns. As they have no powers they're fighting with whatever they can get, be it a sword or a gun.

I didn't like this story it was long and boring, John was barking orders the whole time. Everyone aside from him felt like fodder and there was no adventure or interesting interactions. Right at the end there was a mcguffin that tried to be some closure to the story but as most of these stories go they're left open. Even though Future State has been and gone, it will never be continued. So that's a very strange choice DC decided to make, it's like that with every story in this though.

The taking of sector 0123 - Jessica Cruz 4*
Jessica is protecting a stronghold, which has just been invaded by Yellow Lanterns. She's decides to do an Ellen Ripley and taken them all on, I quite enjoyed this one. Love the ending hopefully we get something similar in canon next time.

Don't have much to say about this really, I liked the fact the main villain in this was Sinestro's blue chick. Who I've never seen alone, well for long but she was an intriguing antagonist.

Book of Guy - Guy Gardner 5*
I don't like Guy, he's always irritated me, when Vendetti wrote him he was alright. But I loved him in this, he's trying to stop an alien race sacrificing each other and starting war. It ends up with him becoming their prophet, which is completely bonkers but I absolutely loved it!

Dead Space - Keli Quintela 4*
The new Green Lantern that appeared in Young Justice, Vol. 1: Gemworld, not familiar with her, it's actually the first time I've read her. She's got the power gauntlet that Hal used to have, though it is a bit silly how it got into her possession. She's sent on a mission with Mogo, as a test by the guardians.

It was a really good introduction for someone who hasn't read the character before, I also quite liked her pairing with Mogo, they complemented each other nicely.

Recon - Hal Jordan 4*
How can I not like a story by Robert Venditti? Yes the end of his Rebirth run was a little painful to get though but I liked this short story. Hal is flying around in a spaceship, sending out a distress signal. I'm not completely sure what he is doing, it is very on point for him, as when the Green Lanterns are in trouble he's not usually around.

Justice League 5*
Why can't can't we get more Justice League stories like this? It was so simplistic but so good! You don't need all this nonsense thrown in, this was a wonderful character piece that utilized everyone in the team.

A lot of these stories were left open, which is a bit disappointing as Future State isn't going to continue. So we we don't get to find out what happens next, I'm glad they decided to turn 5G into something interesting though, we got some very unique ideas in this.
Left open!!!!!

2.5 rounded down. While the latter stories were better the first really bogs it down. This collection's sum is worse than its parts as it repeats the idea of having hope even in a world tailor made to fuck you over in most of the issues here making reading individual issues all right but a slog as a whole collection. I think the concept is neat of showing possible bad futures but it's tiring to read. Nearly every story is a crapsack world fashioned to fuck over whoever the issue is about only for that person to keep on fighting on thanks to the power of hope. That's a cool concept but its done so similarly and to such a strong pattern it ends up making the reading experience repetitive and dull. They don't really add different opinions, sides, or exploration to the pattern rather just follow it. They also seem pretty uninterested in explaining the characters meaning if you don't know them well its a difficult read for them. That's ok for big fans but with a collection spanning multiple heroes and their respective casts for more casual fans a lot of these come with a knowledge gap. My faves were the Tales From The Green Lantern Corps with Justice League Dark and Justice League both as second place.
My opinion for each series below. Average score is 3.375 but mostly for the better second half.

3.5 Stars.
This is the first Volume of Future State for me. WOW... lots to take in here, but seems like exactly what is: a DC reboot that was stopped and turned into a mini-series, a possible future of the DC Universe, but probably something that will be gotten rid of in the future. It also plays directly into the aftermath of Dark Nights Death Metal, which is the re-establishment of the multiverse in DC.
Highlights/Brief Summary of the 2 parters:

Flash - Barry Allen and other speedsters have lost their connection to the Speed Force, which is not exclusively owned by a Famine-possessed Wally West. Though Barry is able to contact Wally and get lots of info for the Justice League to use, he is defeated and Wally gets away.

Aquaman - Jackson (formerly Aqualad) is now Aquaman. Andy, the daughter of Arthur and Mera, is Aqualass (though she wants to be called Aquawoman. Together, on a routine patrol/training, they enter into the Confluence, an ocean that connects all of space and time. They get separated and Andy gets lost in time. She shows up to save Jackson, demonstrating powers of Aquakinesis (like Mera) and fish talking (like Arthur) but she can also compel them too.

Justice League Dark - Etrigan, now connected to Detective Chimp, teams up with the rest of the squad to fight against Merlin, when he comes for the helmet of the recently resurrected Dr. Fate. Lots of lore, but not tons of payoff. Still good though.

Green Lantern - John Stewart leads the Corps still, though much of the light is gone, and he no longer has a ring. An evil army led by "The Red God" (might be something to match up with a future version of Atrocitus), he is only able to stand against the forces via the help from Orion.

Green Lantern Corps - 1) Jessica Cruz, living in a galaxy where Green Lanterns are almost gone, becomes a Yellow Lantern to help save the galaxy. 2) Guy Gardner is trying to facilitate peace on a planet when his ring dies, taking away the translation function. So... he must stay for years to learn the language and try to establish peace. 3) Teen Lantern (with Krona's Power Gauntlet) teams up on a mission with Mogo to try and earn a ring or at least a place in the Corps. 4) Hal Jordan goes up against Warworld, trying to get a message to the GLC, only to find out he's been gone a very long time.

Justice League - The new team: Aquawoman (who we met earlier); Batman (Jace Fox - I still need to read the FS Bat-stuff); The Flash (Jess Chambers) & Green Lantern (Jo Mullein) - both of which I haven't seen yet; Superman (Jon Kent - son of Superman and Lois, all grown up and stepped into the role); and Wonder Woman (Yara Flor - again, need to read more FS). Staying apart often, and remaining strangers to each other, apparently both of which led to the downfall of the original JL, they strive to bond as a team. Only when against the Hyperclan and the Legion of Doom (hilarious to see them all old) do they see the need to bond tight as a team.

Overall, despite it's length, I actually liked most of these stories. We'll see how things shake out when I continue on with other FS titles.

Recommend. Nice to see something totally new for a change.

DC Future State: A "future timeline, who knows if these things will actually happen" event. Some ideas will play out in Infinite Frontier, and some might just got completely ignored. Also indicated, if possible, is the next title to read in the series!

Future State: Superman
Future State: Suicide Squad

Ah, the final book. And again , it's full of some winners and losers..

First is probably the worst story in all of Future State The Flash . It wins the honor by having one of the least caring Barry Allens ever, some boring plot, and a bunch of other OoC choices. Luckily, I don't think this picks up anywhere but I could be wrong.

Aquaman features Jackson Hyde and the daughter of Arthur and Mera, and I think this is actually more of a follow-up on the run of Aquaman prior than anything else. That being said, writer Brandon Thomas will be writing a Jackson Hyde mini in Aquaman: The Becoming #1.

Ram V again is phenomenal with Justice League Dark , a series which they took over from Tynion. I believe this is more of an endcap for now, as JLD has no current book.

The Green Lantern stuff was just a narrative mess and I honestly did not care for any of it.

Which brings us to Justice League a decent enough team book that will likely be continued in the future, just now now.

It's another mixed bag, but I really enjoyed the Aquaman/woman and JLD bits!

My last purchased trade of the Future State event and, honestly, my second favorite after Wonder Woman. Though a lot of the story elements irked me and most of them are left open-ended so the DC universe can grow into these stories and continue onward (please, stars above, don't), I still enjoyed the writing and thought the artwork throughout was pretty great.

To give a brief rundown of the irksome stories, however, let's start with The Flash. First and foremost, if you're a Wally West fan like myself (my second favorite character after Dick Grayson), then just freaking DO NOT read this tale. Though it's an intriguing story, for whatever freaking reason DC Comics has to continue to poop all over my favorite boys! Wally, a killer yet again, twice in less than five years. Can we please stop villainizing my favorite speedster?!?!

Then there's Aquawoman and her brother traveling through spaceworlds or something, I got kind of confused, if I'm being honest. Kind of an intriguing tale, though the unresolved issue of Aquawoman forcing an aquatic lifeform to be her new leg after she cuts her own off was a really freaking weird choice. Like, we're just gonna make her kind of villainous but not gonna resolve that kerfuffle, like, at all.

Justice League Dark was my favorite of the bunch. Quite entertaining story whose open-endedness I actually liked. Easy recommend.

Green lantern has three issues, the first two following Jon Stewart leading the remaining Green Lanterns sans power rings in a battle to save a world. Then there's an elongated issue where they cover what's going on with Jessica Cruz, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, and Keli Quintela. I'm not a huge GL fan (please accept my apologies, haha), and I sloughed through the Stewart tales. Surprisingly for me, though, I really loved three/fourths of the elongated issue, feeling unconnected with Hal's because it went nowhere and absolutely nothing happened. The other three were all interesting and worth the time.

And finally, we have the new Justice League. I like the lineup. An inclusive bunch wanting to live up to their predecessors but also weary of what tore the golden age apart. Well written and enjoyable tale from Joshua Williamson and the only story, legit, that left me interested in the Future State world. Otherwise, I think the event was a fluke and should be left as the future of some other world in the multiverse and not the awaiting fate of the prime world.

I love all of these stories !!

I really loved some of the characters in this too!

Below is probably how I’d rank and rate each story !

1. Justice League
I really liked these issues! I wanted to see even more of this team, especially now that they’re starting to become a family! I will see if there is anyway for me to be able to read more from them! I primarily loved Yara & Jon’s relationship!

2. Aquawoman
I have never read an Aquaman comic, so for this to be my first was great ! I love the dynamic between Jonathan & Andy ! Along with beautiful art and a very fun dynamic, I can’t wait to read more from these characters !

3. Green Lantern #1
I’ll keep this short because there are 3 GL stories in here. I’ve never read any GL before, but this was rly good! I loved John as a character. So cool. And I even got invested when G’nort died !

4. Green Lantern #2
I really loved Jessica as a character! I thought she was really cool! I want to read more of her stories, and I think she demonstrated the sort of indomitable human spirit even in a cosmic situation !

5. Justice League Dark
Once again, these sets of characters are new to me! I of course know of them, but I’ve never sat down and read them! I love the dynamic between them all! I loved seeing Constantine & Zantanna! And I really loved Detective Chimp too! Especially all of these characters coming together in a post apocalyptic world. So cool. OH and Doctor Fate was really awesome too.

6. The Flash !
This story kind of just throws you into it without much context, but for what it was, I enjoyed it! I loved seeing an older Barry Allen, as im more used to seeing him as a young adult, seeing him as a hardened shell of his past self, yet sharing the same ideologies was really cool! And I did genuinely get shocked when certain characters were killed! (J.G)

7. Green Lantern #3
There was nothing wrong with this story, it was just a bit short for me to get fully involved in. I liked the character of Keli though, she was wholesome, and I liked her dynamic with Mogo! Nothing much else to say apart from that really, and that the art was pretty!

I really enjoyed all of this book and I left me wanting to read more from Future State! I believe this book is overhated! The art is beautiful and the writing is great! While yes sometimes not a lot of context is provided, you can always figure it out anyway!

I will be reading more from this timeline!

4/5 !

I’m always psyched when DC switches up the Justice League cast. I know some people hate it, but I was very happy to see so many women in the line up. I was also happy to see a Black GL and Batman. The Justice League Dark storyline was the best in my opinion. I think those characters have a lot of chemistry and it really felt like a lot was at stake in those two issues. Although I like the new Justice League cast, I felt like I didn’t really get to know them because they were hidden behind the legacy of their previous placeholder (as well as being impersonated by white martians). The Future State Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps. was a pretty good read. I have to say my favorite part was when Jessica Cruz went toe to toe with Alyssa Drak and gained Sinestro’s yellow ring. I’m not sure what this is going to mean, but Cruz has always been a hero. If she doesn’t go to the dark side, I’m not sure how she’s able to hold the ring. Gotta love an arch that leaves you with more questions. Aquawoman’s Future State felt a bit more forced as we were made to reminisce with characters we don’t even know that well yet. Maybe I’m being too harsh, but it want a two issue special that got me excited. The idea of the ocean connecting universes is pretty cool though, I’ll give them that. Hopefully we’ll se more from all these characters though so they have a chance to grow organically. Many show a lot of potential!

One thing that these Future State books have going for them is that they have alot of content per volume.

This one in particular has a lot of stuff in it. And unlike a lot of the other Future State stuff, this one was pretty good!

Some highlights for me:

Lots of Green Lantern stuff in this one. From Jessica Cruz stranded with a depowered ring, to Guy Gardner with a depowered ring, this one puts a lot of the GLC members through the ringer. The only story I didn't really like was the one where John Stewart and other GL's are stranded on a planet with no power for their rings (of course) so they have to form a rebellion the old fashioned way. It was interesting but at the same time, felt like something we have read before.

There's a story about the Justice League Dark which features Merlin. This was ok and very "magical", but I felt it could've and should've been more. There's also an Aquaman story with the young Aquaman and Aqualass... this was ok at best.

I think the other highlight was the Flash story where Wally is possessed and killing all the speedsters. This story seems like it will continue in the flash title proper but what's up with DC and making Wally the villain? They seem to love Barry and hate Wally for some reason. To me Wally is the better Flash so it's strange to see him get misused like this.

Overall, probably one of the better volumes of Future State.

I haven't read DC titles consistently for more than a decade, so this was a bit of a random pickup, but the Flash story on the opening pages was too good to ignore. This collection comes after the "Dark Knights: Metal" crossover, which apparently ended in some sort of multiverse shenanigans. And that's a good thing: when writers know that the setting will be conveniently reset or destroyed at some point in the future, it gives them the chance to do a cool story that's not handcuffed to continuity.

All the stories here were two or three issues, each with its own team, but the collection was surprisingly good overall. The Flash and Green Lantern entries were standouts. (Of course as a Gen-Xer I couldn't help but cringe at the villainization of Wally West, but it's a hoary comic trope for every hero to become a villain at some point.) I don't pass up the opportunity to dis Aquaman but even the Aquaman story was decent.

The weakest entry, not surprisingly, was the closing Justice League story. When you have a fresh slate of newer characters, and "they're all from the future!", it's tough to accomplish the team development a Justice League title requires. And I'm old enough to wearily say, white Martians . . . again? With those nits, this Future State collection is pretty solid and recommended for your DC nerds.

Sometimes these FState stories are full of imagination and cool ideas, like the Flash that’s first up in this book, so to drop the ball so hard on all of the Green Lantern stories besides Guy and Keli and Mogo is such a disappointment

Flash: great, Barry and the rest of the depowered speedsters try to save Wally
There’s an Asterix box that nods to Future State: Teen Titans, which isn’t collected here it’s in FState: Suicide Squad 😝 silly

Aquaman: really enjoyable, Jackson and Arthur’s daughter

Justice League Dark: great story, Merlin has tyrannically claimed all the magic and the Dark Gang is running opposition

Green Lantern: bit disappointing but it is still good, Guerilla John leads the Corps against the Khund, which I stg I’ve already read that story. Salaak and G’nort do a lot of heavy lifting here and I love to see that
-minus points for the kind of sci fi speak that half makes sense

Tales of the GL Corp: Jessica Cruz does a big fat Home Alone on Lyssa Drax and the Sinestro corps henchmen duo.
-Guy runs a planet while depowered
—Keli gets depowered with Mogo
—-Hal goes on a cruise and thinks a minute, for Robert Venditti this could’ve been more Something

(I’m so disappointed with FState Green Lantern smDDDDh the ball was dropped)

Justice League: not bad, I was ready to wrap up this book, I’d spend more time with this team

The cover is slightly misleading; even though this collection includes stories involving members of the Justice League, it is not a stand-alone trade for that particular DC group/title. Instead, this collection rounds up issues one and two of various titles from DC's newest crossover, Future State, and while some stories are pretty fantastic (Justice League Dark, Justice League) many fall flat for lack of substance. Indeed, each selection provides a wonderful catch and the art (for the most part) is spectacular, but with only two issues to draw from by each title, it's difficult to ground not only the stories but the new characters as well and this leaves more questions than anything else. Moreover, nothing really connects these tales simply by reading them other than the fact that they are collected in the same trade-- what actually binds these stories all together is still a mystery, one that may be solved, one would assume, by hunting down the subsequent monthly issues or waiting for a follow-up trade. All in all, this is a quick read and mostly entertaining, but it feels more like an exciting, if not disjointed, trailer... I'm just waiting for the movie to come out.

In reading the Future State event (in actuality before management changes swept through DC Comics this have been the new continuity) as digital floppies it makes sense to combine this 2-4 issue series into anthology style TPBs. I read this as digital floppies, but out of laziness and poor record keeping I'll use the same start date for all of these. This is not a great collection.

There are some story points in the Justice League and the back up strip Justice League Dark that are very well done. Even the concept that these new legacy heroes really aren't comfortable with each other.

The Flash, frankly I didn't think it was very good.

Green lantern, ok inpart because, like JLA...

This is quite a big collection, even bigger than what's billed. In addition to the Justice League, Green Lantern, and Flash miniseries, there's also an Aquaman miniseries and a collection of Green Lantern shorts. The quality varies, a lot. I really enjoyed the Justice League series. The new versions of legacy characters were interesting, and both distinct from the originals while being recognizably versions of them. The Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Flash miniseries were fine, but not terribly exciting. Some of the Green Lantern shorts were really good, especially Jessica's. Certainly parts of this book are worth reading, and I at least felt like there were serious attempts to tell interesting and creative stories, even when they fell flat for me.

I've already read Future State Superman and Future State the Next Batman. Which I preferred over FS Justice League.

I'll be reading FS Dark Detective, FS Wonder Woman and FS Suicide Squad soon.

I read one person's review which comment Aquaman story was the best. This was the opposite for me. Easily the least favorite story for me.

Flash, Green Lantern and Justice League were all solid entertaining stories for me.

I think my biggest complaint with Future State is the largely 2 issue format. The 3 and 4 issue stories play out better. Comics in general do better with some development.

These are also disconnected stories. I'd have prefered DC create some throughlines and broader plot points with the whole series.

Enjoyed it enough that I'll reread some day.

Two stories and a handful of backups keep this from being a four star read.

The Flash - I really loved the idea behind this, but I found the second issue to be pretty boring.

Aquaman - This was great. The artwork was stunning

Justice League Dark - Probably my favorite of the whole collection. I love this team and the way Ram V writes them.

Green Lantern - I did not care for this one. I’m sure some big Lantern fans may enjoy it, but I found it mostly boring. It was at least a quick read.

Green Lantern Backups - The Teen Lantern and Hal Jordan stories were the only ones I liked. The rest were terrible.

Justice Leauge - Had potential, but fell a tad flat. I liked it for the most part and would read a series about this team, but I found the story to just be okay.

3.5 stars

This collection of various stories is enjoyable overall, but it feels like most of the stories within could have been better with just a little more effort.

Future State: The Flash ★★★☆
A story about Barry & co. facing off a Wally possessed by something evil. I've seen a lot of hate about this because apparently people don't like when a character turns bad even if it has literally no impact on anything (?) Anyway, the story was interesting and my only gripe is that it finishes in a cliffhanger that tells me I have to read Future State Teen Titans to find what's the conclusion. This would have been fine reading in single issues, but it's annoying to not have that collected in the same trade. The art is quite good.

Future State: Aquaman ★★★★☆
Very good story, involving new Aquaman and Aquawoman/Aqualass (?) finding each other after being separated by a certain events. I liked how we got first Aquaman's perspective of what happened to get to this point and then Aquawoman's experiences, and how things finally fall in place together. Great art, with nice colors.

Future State: Justice League Dark ★★★★☆
Another very good story. Didn't like the art at first, but then grew into it as I realized it fits the tone of the book very well. As for the story, it felt like an Elseworlds tale, with Merlin taking over all the magic in the world and killing off magic users left and right and Zatanna and a few others trying to mount one last stand. Even though this is probably it, I would loved to read more about this possible future.

Future State: Green Lantern ★★☆
This was pretty strange to rate. I liked the story with the Red God worshipping warriors invading some random world, and how it turned out. However, there was no actual Green Lantern, just John Stewart fighting with axes and blasters. Art was ok, although maybe a bit too colorful given the dark undertones of the story and talk of world-ending slaughter.

Future State: Tales of the Green Lantern Corps ★★★☆
These were short stories so it's difficult to rate them altogether. My favourite was the Jessica Cruz one - involves some vent-crawling in space and got a bit of an Alien vibe, and the art is great. The Guy story is funny, the Teen Lantern was ok too despite feeling uninteresting at first, and the Hal story was ok although it felt more like a teaser/trailer than a self-contained tale.

Future State: Justice League ★★
Meh. The story lost me after the middle of the first issue. It's based on the underlying idea that this new JL must not fraternize with each other for some reason, despite many of the members actually fraternizing in pairs and knowing their real identities. At times, hard to follow what's going on and why, and some of the characters' voices sound annoying.
