Westbrooks: Family Ties #1

One Little Mistake

Rate this book
Easton Westbrook entered my life like an arrogant, grumpy, wrecking ball, and refused to leave.
Our banter is addicting, and nothing I do or say will make him change his mind. But when his mind becomes focused solely on me, I run.

I can’t afford to give my heart away again. Not when I’m barely surviving with the broken one I have.

I have walls up for a reason. Reasons that are none of his business, but Easton is used to getting what he wants. And when he decides he wants me, I’m not sure I’ll survive it.

Lexi Heart entered my life like an arrogant, bossy, she-devil in heels, and I can’t get her out of my head.
She’s always ten steps ahead, and I have to admit, I’m intrigued. With every lash of her sharp tongue, she puts me in my place. But when I peel back the layers of her tough girl exterior, I see the broken shell she’s hiding, and my own walls come crashing down.

We quickly learn that what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay there, and I know I’m done for. I want this girl in every sense of the word, but can I convince her to take a chance on us? Or will the damage from her past be too much, even for true love?

Join Easton and Lexi in their highly emotional journey to a happily ever after. One Little Mistake is an enemy to lovers, accidental marriage romance that will draw you in and refuse to let you go.

Hi, I’m Avery!

I write steamy small towns with big found families—the kind of romances that make your heart race and your soul sigh.

My books, like The Westbrooks, Single Dad Hotline, and Happiness Ever After series, are filled with swoon-worthy heroes, messy but lovable heroines, and small towns you’ll want to call home.

When I'm not writing, I live in joyful chaos with my husband and four kids. You can usually find me cheering on the sidelines at their sporting events, sneaking in writing sprints, or slipping into coffee shops for my daily caffeine fix.

WARNING: Review contains SPOILERS!!
I’ve come to a point these days that only 1 out 1000 romances may be enjoyable for me. These days if something holds my interest somewhat and doesn’t make me DNF immediately, it’s a win-win and this is one of those reads but that is not to say that it doesn’t have some big pet peeves of mine.
Perhaps those of you who want to read it, it won’t be much of a problem for you…

So here goes -

What I liked:

- Both MCs and all side characters are awesome! Hero & heroine are likable and have lots of chemistry.
- I liked the fact that they didn’t immediately jump into bed but author slowly developed their attraction & friendship that soon turned into love.
- I LOVED Hero in his constant pursuit of heroine. There were times that I wanted to reach in and tell him to stop already but his patience & his unwillingness to give up on her, made him a true Hero in my book – and for this reason is why I didn’t DNF when I found out about the background/past of each of our MCs (especially Hero’s).
- The focus on family and how one doesn’t need to be blood to be “family”. (Aka, all his brothers & Granny).
- Speaking of Granny & his brothers, I loved all of them and can’t wait to read everyone’s story – especially if next book is about poor Ash which should be heartbreaking, adorable Connor or Halton & Rylan. Honestly I hope its Halton & Rylan ’cause the little we got, theirs should be really good!
- The humor. If anyone knows me, you know I absolutely LOVE humor in my romances and this one had lots of it!

“Are you always this difficult?”
“Are you always this bossy?” he shoots back.
“As a matter of fact, I am.”
“Well, this should be interesting then because you haven’t seen difficult yet, Lexi.”

----
”Have you always sworn at your bosses?” he finally asks.
“Yes, when they’re unbearable assholes.”
“You’re very needy, Easton.”

----
“It’s Mr. Savin, Lexi.”
“It’s very nice to meet you, Maxim.” If that fuckwad thinks he is going to intimidate me, he has another thing coming.

What I didn’t like:

So the story first of is about Easton & Lexi otherwise both known as “Beast” / “Mr. Grumpy” & “Lexi-Con” / “Locket” . Both have heartbreaking pasts.

Lexi was in a 3 year relationship with someone she thought she loved & who loved her but he turned out to be a nightmare. We don’t get much info on that relationship because either it was told in a previous book or author just left it to the imagination. In any case, Lexi & this other man who were not married but living together, were trying to have a baby. She had her embryos frozen and did an in vitro fertilization in which she became pregnant, but soon after she learned who/what he was and while trying to get some proof to put him in jail, she is kidnapped & miscarries her baby which causes her to no longer be able to have a baby.

Easton on the other hand had two childhood BFFs, Vanessa & Dillon. He & Vanessa were deeply in love but when he went to college, she found out she had stage 4 cancer and was dying and didn’t tell him. When he learns she died, he rushes home only to learn that Dillon had married her! This causes him so much pain to not only loose the woman he loved but the best friend whom he considered as a brother so he shuts down for 8 years!

We later learn that Dillon did not betray Easton. In fact he & Vanessa were protecting him because her Father was gunning for Easton & his family and she had to marry Dillon (paper marriage only) so that he couldn’t touch Easton at all.

And this was the part that ruined it for me from being a 4 or 5 star read. While both MCs loved OP in past, Hero’s ex was made to be the saint & the big love of his life, while heroine’s was a villain. Hero had deep love for this OW, but heroine had deep hate for the OM.

One aspect that author did not offer readers that I would have liked to see is for Hero to differentiate the love he had with his ex and the one he had with heroine. It just felt that heroine became his 2nd choice when all this is revealed at the 85% or so when it never felt like that before then.

When he finally learns the truth that Vanessa & Dillan did not betray him, he says:

“Ness never stopped loving you, East. You were her shining star. Her biggest regret was that our actions might dim your light. I’m sorry that it did for so long.”
His words are like a punch to the throat, and I’m having trouble keeping the tears at bay. The relief of knowing the two people I loved more than life itself didn’t betray me after all is more than I can handle.

Key words here are “the two people he loved more than life itself”. It left me wondering that had Vanessa not died, would he have ever meant to be with Lexi? Did he love Lexi as much or more so then Vanessa? Was he over Vanessa by then when he learned the truth or would he always love & mourn her? Author didn’t explain or give any closure to those feelings & angst he had about the OW other than to forgive his BFF and that just didn’t sit right with me and sort of ruined it.

I do want to mention that even though we know from the first couple of chapters that he was hurt before by OW, we don’t learn the truth until the 85% or so which by then he had already fallen for Lexi (and I with him!), but then this inserted curveball lessened & ruined my enjoyment!

This can be read as a standalone BTW but there were backstories & things left open ended at times that was hard to follow.

SAFETY:

- No sex scenes with OP
- Hero not a Manwhore. I think he said he had ONS here & there but mostly was celibate as he preferred to be alone.
- Heroine was not a virgin obviously. We also learn that she slept with someone in HS since she brought him home & had sex with him in her tree-house. Besides those 2 relationships, I think she had others too but none were mentioned.
- There is HEA & one year out Epilogue with kids. (Funny scene with Lexi’s BFF carrying her embryo twins).

One Little Mistake is the first book in The Weston’s series and the first book I’ve read by Avery Maxwell after a recommendation from one of my favorite author’s Lucy Score. Unfortunately, I didn’t love the book nearly as much as Lucy professed to have. But that’s just me and it doesn’t mean you won’t love it. One of my problems is not the author’s fault. Although this book is the first in the series and can be read as a standalone, it’s obviously a spinoff from a previous series because there are just too many Weston siblings and other non-blood family members in this story that have already found true love. Now I love it when a series includes characters from previous books which is why I try to always start from the beginning of a series so I know all the characters backstories. And while Maxwell alludes to a lot of their backstories, for me at least it wasn’t enough. So while this may have served the author’s purpose of tempting me to read the previous books it also took away from my enjoyment of this book. I’m going to hazard a guess that even our heroine Lexi Heart’s story begins in a previous book because when she’s introduced, we know she’s the ex of a bad guy, Miles Black who did bad things to her and that some of the Maxwell family were involved in her rescue. Without having read the book that begins her story it isn’t until near the end of this book we learn the gist of what happened to her. Early on Lexi describes herself as broken and she feels guilty and responsible for why she’s broken physically. Although that too isn’t revealed until much later in the story it really wasn’t hard to figure out why Lexi felt she was unworthy of and could never make our male lead Easton happy. So if the author intended that to be a mystery to keep readers interested, I think it sort of failed on that level.
Our male lead is Easton Weston who at the beginning of this book is a grumpy asshole by his own admission. Normally I don’t care for books that have grumpy asshole male leads but we learn Easton is like the lion with a thorn in his paw lashing out in his pain. Midway through the book we learn about the circumstances that have caused Easton to put walls around his heart and be so grumpy.
I give the author credit for her ambitious undertaking. She combines two familiar tropes, the enemies to lovers” trope to begin the story and midway through we get the “we got drunk in Vegas and woke up married” trope. Then there’s all sorts of secondary story lines going on while Easton and Lexi struggle to their happily ever after. Three family members working in some clandestine government organization. The disappearance of a young woman Pacen which was left hanging. A secret relationship between one older brother and his younger brother’s female BFF which is the next book. There’s the evil rival McCombs who seems more like a mob boss than the head of a construction company. He’s another ball left in the air for a future story to bring his karma. Ultimately I just felt for all of its positives (and there were many including G.G.) this book had too much going on, left too much unfinished. Even the happily ever after ending felt a little weak to me. And as I mentioned in my spoiler a couple of plot twists that either unbelievable or made no sense to me

Lexi and Easton were everything I’d hoped for and more! She’s broken, he’s angry at the world, and they just WORK to become whole. Of course, Lexi doesn’t want to be whole. She thinks she’s too broken and unworthy to ever be whole again. But Easton won’t give up. He’s going to prove to her that they’re perfect for each other, they both deserve this, and he’s not going to let her down. Or force her to do this alone. And the “this” is the start of a whole new mess of chaos and love and probably danger along the way, but it seems like this family thrives under pressure, so they’ll be ready for whatever may happen. And they’ll do it all with the love and support they need, too.

I especially love Ashton. Yeah, he’s angry. He’s bitter. But he’s so darn smart and keeping so much inside that I can’t wait to see what comes spewing out when he finally explodes. He and Lexi have a camaraderie that almost ruins everything because someone acts like a big dumb dummy, but he also does his best to keep everyone on task and to make things right. So I can’t wait to see what comes next for this family, because I’m pretty sure Ashton keeps all the secrets his brothers and friends never knew existed.

Lexi is down but not out, so when her new boss/family friend, as in, she's been adopted into his family years ago, seems intent on doubting her ability to handle the job as his assistant, she lets him have it in an epic battle of wills. She's snarky, tough, and has walls around herself as strong as Fort Knox. Who will win in this battle? Lexi, the sassy woman with pain in her eyes? Or Easton, the grumpy boss who has his own pain but is as determined to get under her skin as she is determined to keep him at arm's length?

Lexi and Easton are one hot couple! There was obvious tension from their first words to each other and I could tell it was going to be glorious when they finally gave into the attraction. Fighting with each other, the snark was high, the wit smart, and the heat was explosive between these two. I loved their story, and especially loved Lexi. She had such a heartbreaking past, but had fought to bring herself out of it and came out on the other side. Easton was one of those grumpy alphas who had been damaged by an ex, who wasn't looking for love, but it found him and brought him to his knees. They were soo good together and now I am thoroughly into the Westbrook clan and the ones they will find love with.

The first 50% of this book wasn't bad but then it was. The characters did a complete 180. The MMC in the beginning was a hardass who hates everybody to someone who associates with everyone and cries at the drop of a hat. The FMC is a bitch at the start who turns into someone feeling sorry for herself all the time.

The writing is not great. This book is part of a series that I thought could be read as a standalone. False. I felt like I was constantly missing something and it seemed like the author glossed over things happening with others.

But it's not all because of it being part of a series. The writing is bad. The MMC is always "screaming". A thesaurus is needed to learn other words like proclaim, exclaim, or even growl. And there is no inner monologue (except for why doesn't he/she like me) so there are always scenes with other characters giving "heartfelt" advice. And earlier how I said the author glossed over things, it includes those advice sessions that conclude quickly and without really delving into anything

There was a bonus epilogue that I didn't bother to download and read and I will probably skip the other books by this author as well.

4.5 Star review of One Little Mistake (Westbrook series #1) by Avery Maxwell
Avery Maxwell is a new author to me and I am kicking myself that I have not read her before now. This was a well written story about Easton Westbrook and Lexi Heart and I was drawn in to the story that Ms.Maxwell wove from the first chapter.
We all know what happens in Vegas, stay in Vegas but not always. Having been badly burnt by his ex best freind, Easton has erected walls that are impossible to penetrate whilst Lexi is recovering from a devastating loss. There were times that my heart almost broke for Lexi.
When they meet, there is a spark, but can they come to terms with the past and finally move on and in doing so find happiness together? The banter between them was witty but their journey is rocky and at times I wasn’t sure that they would get there.
I fell hard and fast for Easton and really loved Lexi. I was cheering them on to get the happily ever after that they both so deserved.

Sweetheart, I’ll make as many mistakes as you’ll allow...

I just love a grumpy man who falls for the girl and doesn’t give up on her. Easton is so perfect in this book. Such great character development from the grumpy workaholic with trust issues, to the devoted hero willing to do whatever it takes to get the girl. Lexi is such a broken character, it takes her the entire book to learn to love herself enough to let anyone else in. It was heartbreaking and beautiful to watch Easton break down her walls. These two are so perfect for each other with their banter and their heat. This is such a great book with several little teasers to make you want to know more about the rest of the Westbrook brothers.

As always with this author, I freaking loved it

Easton and Lexi were everything and more that I wanted from their story. He's angry, she feels broken- then East realises he wants to help Lexi not fix her!

Their love has been undeniable since the first book of this author and I've longed for their journey to be put in black and white.

This whole group of characters are brilliantly written and work perfectly together, each bringing something different to the table.
We all need a GG in our lives!!

Get yourself lost in the Chaos, you won't regret it!!

ONE LITTLE MISTAKE by Avery Maxwell is the First book in the Westbrook Series. This is the story of Lexi Hear and Easton Westbrook. Easton had felt betrayed by his two friends Vanessa & Dillon. Vanessa was the love of his life in and Dillon was his best friend. While he was away at college Vanessa and Dillon got married causing Easton to of course feel that betrayal. So Easton had a chip on his shoulders and we learned Lexi had a bad break up who didn't want to get involved with anyone else. But Easton felt something for Lexi that he hadn't felt in a long time even during their banter.
This was a good read and I did enjoy this author's writing.

Easton and Lexi's story was AMAZING! I keep thinking that I find my favorite couple, but with each new story, I add a new favorite couple.
Grumpy Easton Westbrook is unforgettable! He is definitely one of my all-time favorite Grumpy Heros. Lexi Heart is his perfect counterpart, even if she refuses to believe it. The hurt that these two characters endured is truly heartbreaking. Their story is a beautiful journey of self-love, healing, learning to accept help, love, and of course, a little danger mixed in for good measure.
Easton and Lexi have intrigued me from the very first time they were mentioned in the Broken Hearts series. While it is not necessary to read any of the Broken Hearts series beforehand, I LOVED how the timeline of their story was so intricately woven throughout the other books. It all fits together so perfectly.
I found Avery Maxwell and within a week and a half I had devoured every book she had available along with every extended epilogue. Every book is a must-read, an absolute must-read.

The Westbrooks strike again and I am here for it! There is a whole lot that can be said about the relationship between Easton and Lexi. It is explosive and hot but also unbelievably tender when the need arises. Heartbreak is a vicious witch and no one it seems is immune to it. But it’s how you react to the heartbreak and what you do with it that really tells the measure of a person. This book will show you heartbreak and you will feel it deep, but it will also show you that those things that you see as mistakes may just be the best thing to ever happen to you. Take a ride with Easton and Lexi and find out what makes him grumpy and what makes her even grumpier. The Westbrooks are my dream family and I’m glad that I get to be an adopted member of the chaos. WELCOME TO THE CHAOS!

"welcome to the chaos".... The plot... The plot is the chaos.

It starts with a pretty good story, but in the middle, it starts jumping from one scene to another, sometimes without any explanation whatsoever. It was hard to follow, and it bored me pretty quickly.

The main characters are hard to love as well. FMC is so indecisive it quickly becomes annoying, and if it was not for MMC forceful stubbornness, they wouldn't be together.

I couldn’t put this one down! Easton and Lexi kept me enthralled the whole time, they’re both so very wounded and prickly. Not my usual trope, but the author did a great job of revealing both their gooey centers a little at a time! Great book!

~~Please read the first 3 books of this series to fully appreciate the backstory and development of these MCs.~~

He is a taciturn, (*cough*), grumpy, and quiet brother in the Westbrook family. She is lost and ends up terribly broken while hiding her insecurities behind a wall of sassy. He is going to help her be accepted into their unconventional family and hire her as his new assistant.

Easton Westbrook is the second oldest in his family and carries a bitter heartache no one knows about. Over the past few years he has been withdrawn around his big, chaotic family. His job is an obligation to his family but it isn't his dream. When his older brother calls asking him to hire a mutual friend, Lexi, recently grafted into their found family group, Easton agrees even though he doesn't know if she will be able to stand working for him.

Lexi Heart has not had an easy life. When a powerful man sweeps her off her feet it takes her too long to acknowledge his red flags much to her horror and regret. When Lexi's mistakes bring her abruptly into her cousin's new family circle, Lexi is uncomfortable. These people are kind, wealthy, and nosey. Unsure she has anywhere else to go, she tries to fight the anger, darkness, and despair. When the grumpy Westbrook offers her a job as his assistant she sees it as an opportunity to move forward.

Sparks and sassy banter occur between Easton and Lexi. He thinks she won't be able to last in her job because he is an arsehole. She decides she needs to fight him at every chance to prevent herself from quitting. Soon, Easton decides he wants her romantically, sassiness and all. He just needs to convince her to love herself so she will give him the opportunity to do the same. Their relationship is mostly uphill and Easton loves every minute of the climb.

Dual POV, (there are no bad guys coming to physically hurt the MCs! Yay!), boss/assistant, impulsive wedding, grumpy vs. smart mouth, please read the triggers**, open door love scenes.

This story has all the makings of a very sweet slow burn love story, but it fell short for me. The bitterness both MCs carry is toxic on several levels. While Easton works through his issues, it takes a long time and he should have done it years before. Lexi went through a horrible situation** and sees herself so broken that you feel it sitting on your chest. Lexi tries to push Easton away by treating him horribly for the large majority of this story. While she takes steps to repair and heal her trauma, she barely shows her growth even at the end. The whole theme is Easton just wants to make Lexi happy and she tries to make that impossible at every opportunity. Nice HEA and sweet Epilogue.

Easton's childhood friend, Dillion Henry, appears in this story from the future timeline: "Your Last First Kiss."

**Trigger warnings from the author:

"Lexi’s story deals with the emotional toll of loss. Having been on a similar path, this was a difficult story for me to write. I won’t offer advice because I’m a firm believer that every person and every situation is different. What I will say is this: I wish I had talked about it. When I was in the desperate despair, and heartache of it all, I wish I had opened up. By dealing with it in private, I missed out on a wealth of support from some truly amazing people. Had I just said I’m struggling, I would have learned how common my journey really was. Talk about it. All my luvs, Avery"

I was so anxious to get Lexi’s story from the minute she was introduced in the previous series. I actually thought two other people were going to be her HEA but I was wrong, Easton was perfect for her. I love how they both gave and took each other’s crap. It is very rare to have the guy willing to open up his heart for love and the girl be more closed off. Lexi has been through a lot recently which makes it a lot harder for her to open up but Easton refuses to give up on her. He was very swoon worthy! This book was packed full of chemistry, steam, nicknames, family and love!

Well written good story, frienimies to lovers. Steamy Hot Hot open door moments. Happily ever after.

I like Avery Maxwell’s writing style. Character developed all throughout the story, Lexi is relatable and real. I liked the message about “ family”.

I thought wow a main billionaire character that actually is real with his feelings. Well not to his family of course but ….

Easton calls his love interest “ sweetheart”, IMO, and bc I listened to it on audio, it was excessive, and cringy. That is the reason for 4-stars.

I've really enjoyed this series from Avery Maxwell. I had initially picked this book up, but when I noticed that it was connected to another series, I went back and started with those. I'm glad that I did, because it really gave me the background to understand and connect all these characters together. I love their closeness and the way they have built their own family.

I look forward to more!

I was late for work because of this book. I couldn’t put it down! (I had to eventually… I really was late.) But then when I went back to it, I stuck with it and finished it in the 2nd sitting.

Easton is such a good character. One Little Mistake is written in alternating points of view, so we really get to see inside his head. And he was so likable! Even when he was being a total cow, which he definitely was at times.

And Lexi was a thoroughly likable character too. She is suffering hard, with some very heart breaking issues to work her way through. She doesn’t always handle things the best way, but she has a gentle heart & tries to do what’s right.

When the two of them first met, there are sparks and fireworks, but not all for necessarily good reasons. That changed reasonably quickly, but Lexi is dead set against anything progressing between them. Fortunately though for us, the readers, Easton is made of stern stuff & wages a war to win the girl.

This enemies to lovers romance has it all for me. It is emotional and definitely tugs on the heartstrings, while totally immersing me in their world through clear descriptions and well filled in back ground stories and characters. And I love the family and friends that share the story with our main two people. Their family is huge, and nobody is left out when it comes to having the opportunity to develop a well rounded personality. There are plenty of people in this story worthy of having their own tales told!

And while this is the first in a new series (and the first book by Avery Maxwell that I’ve read), it becomes apparent fairly quickly that this not the first time that readers have met these characters. And even though it’s easy to read and follow the story if you start with this one, there were times where I wished I understood a bit more about what was being referred to. And considering how good this book is, there would be no hardship involved in holding onto this one and side stepping over to start with the Broken Hearts series first. And I’m guessing that if you get sucked in even half as much as I did, you’ll be ploughing through the series pretty quickly anyway!

One Little Mistake is a very easy ‘5 thumbs up’ for me & I think it’s good news that this is just the first of the Westbrook stories. I’ll definitely be there to read what comes next.

Thank you to the author Avery Maxwell and Social Butterfly PR for sharing a copy of this e-book with me.

5 BIGGEST ⛤⛤⛤⛤⛤

~Easton Westbrook & Lexi Heart~

Dare I say it?
Avery Maxwell has done it again, folks.

The Westbrook series is something I've been looking forward to and the little glimpse of what's happening in One Little Heartbreak promises a world of wonderfulness. And it shows here.

Easton and Lexi has been hinted at since the Broken Hearts series . Then What Happened in Vegas? makes me more curious as how their story will play out.
Lexi is a complex heroine. Reading what happened to her is so heartbreaking, still, I'm very proud of her for standing strong. I would love her to deal with her issues right away, but everyone and I mean EVERYONE, deals with pains differently. I just wish that Lexi lets others help her because she has this wonderful family.
Easton... my dear God, Easton Westbrook just broke me for any other man. He's far from perfect; he has his own issues to deal with, but omg his patience toward Lexi is so outstanding! I really love the fact that he's not giving up even when Lexi pushes him away. He just keeps showing her his love.

GG is still THE ICON. 6 for 6! She's never wrong!

Now... Can we talk about the Westbrooks themselves? Since the Broken Hearts series , I'm in awe of how they embrace the meaning of family. The fact that they adopt everyone closest to them to be a part of THE family is such a heartwarming fact.

The brothers: Preston, Easton, Halton, Colton, and Ashton
I love how supportive of each other they are; I love the closeness of them all.
I really can't wait for the next book! Each of them already sounds amazing!

So, to close this, I just want to say Thank you and job well done, Avery! The plot, the characters, the mystery, it's all perfectly woven together.

4.3 stars

I came back and read this book again after having found the main series and then this spin-off series. Since I'm so familiar with all the characters, I found that I enjoyed this book even more than I initially did. In fact, Easton and Lexi might be my favorite of all the books.

I'm really looking forward to the remaining brother's books. This is turning out to be a great series.

3.5 Stars for One Little Mistake. This is the first book in a new series, but there are interconnected characters with Avery Maxwell’s last series (Broken Hearts) — including Lexi’s entire backstory. I liked the overall theme and story of book, but the details of Lexi and Easton’s relationship (or really, lack thereof) fell flat for me.

I empathized with what she’d lost, but I had a hard time really getting behind her as a broken heroine not knowing the details of what took place with her previously. I felt that way too much was glossed over, and there were conversations between characters that left me clueless. Were they talking about past events, or was it poor writing? I don’t know because One Little Mistake is the first book I’ve read by Avery Maxwell. I also felt like there were too many cases of being told, not shown — like the “epic meltdown” that Lexi has on the porch. A few sentences of a flashback weren’t enough to satisfy me with that.

I liked Lexi as a heroine. I liked East as the hero. I loved their grumpy/sunshine combo. They both have trauma in their pasts, and I loved and how they both learned to heal from their scars with one another. They both had some serious baggage to work through, and their time apart as they did that was my favorite part of the book. I could see them working on their issues, and how they both grew from doing so.

Also, I liked the chaos of the extended Westbrook family. But there were too many moments that had me going back to reread pages, thinking I’d missed something. Does this book run concurrently with others? Is it meant to be read in order? I have no idea! One Little Mistake is tagged as a stand-alone, but I felt like there were too many pieces I was missing.

There were teases set up for future books, which definitely caught my interest. Especially Ashton. So I will look for more from this series in the future, despite only giving One Little Mistake 3.5 stars.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Welcome to the Chaos, again!

The Westbrooks have arrived.

One Little Mistake is book one in the new Westbrook series by Avery Maxwell.

Building upon the solid foundation of her Broken Hearts series, Maxwell has taken her characters to the next level. The Westbrook series features the younger brothers of fan-favorite Preston Westbrook. As with any family, the Westbrook siblings are growing up, spreading their wings, and diversifying their interests, all the while maintaining the strong family bonds that have made, Westbrook's motto “Welcome to the Chaos” a rallying cry for an ever-expanding family of both blood and choice.

In this series Debut, Easton Westbrook, grumpy, smart, sexy, talented, wounded, and absolutely not interested in a relationship, meets his match in his new personal assistant, even grumpier, smarter, sexier, perhaps more talented, every bit as wounded, and equally disinterested, Lexi Heart.

As the story unfolds, One Little Mistake becomes another, until another made in Vegas follows them home. This steamy, grumpy boss, enemies to lovers with a twist, fairytale adjacent story weaves the threads left hanging in The Broken Hearts series into the framework of the series yet to come as Easton and Lexi with a little help from their friends and family work together to build their Happily Ever After.

One Little Mistake brings all our favorites from the Broken Heart series, including a healthy dose of GG wisdom, Sylvie organization, and cameos of all the extended Westbrook family. It is super steamy and brings all the feels! You will need tissues for both happy and sad tears.

I highly recommend this book! While One Little Mistake is a complete story, it does build on the prior series and for the best possible enjoyment, should be read in order.

This is a brand new author for me about The Westbrook Family. Its supposed to be the first book in a new series and I have not read any of the previous books in the authors series but to be honest I was a bit lost in the beginning of the book as so many names and connections were thrown at me that I was flipping to the beginning where there is a chart and even with the chart I was a bit lost.

That said I stopped paying attention to the names and connections and paid more attention to the plot and started to get into the story. This book is about Easton Westbrook whose brother is Preston and who asks his brother to hire Lexi, a person who was rescued by family friend/brother Loki in a previous series (I think).

Lexi is very broken in this story and well East was broken many years ago. He finally starts to live and want a future with Lexi but she feels he deserves more and so she fights it. But East finally has something good and that he wants to fight for and so begins this push and pull and very fun, flirty and hot at work romance.

There were some things and people I didn't get like East's brother Colton was called Colton and Colt and at times, I was like whose Colt? And Julia was so someone I had to use the flip chart to figure out who she was and if she was married or single when she pops up in the story. But as a whole I LOVED this story. It was so awesome. I loved how East falls for Lexi and then fights for her heart even if it means he has to go up against Lexi herself. And Vegas was just so much fun.

I LOVED this book so much I might have to go back and read the previous series because if they were as good as this story I totally missed out.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tissues and chocolate are required when reading this truly breathtaking book. I experienced a variety of emotions while reading this book; anger, sorrow and joy (especially while reading the ending!). I loved the snark tossed around by both Lexie and Easton, and the chemistry between them was hot enough to start a bonfire! Though they would seem to be an unlikely pair at first, Lexie and Easton are perfect for each other. They have both experienced great loss and betrayal in their pasts, and have been unable to come to terms with the pain, grief and guilt. They have both put heavy guards around their hearts, and their everyday attitudes have made them almost unbearable to be around. One little mistake, as Lexie calls it, leads to a love that neither expected or could have dreamed about.

Despite multiple warnings from his brothers and friends not to pursue or to take advantage of Lexie, Easton finds he is unable to stop himself from making things much more intimate and personal. He can see and feel her pain, and he wants to take that away from her. He is surprisingly persistent and romantic in his pursuit, determined to unlock her heart with GG’s encouragement. Lexie believes she is unworthy of love and happiness, though Easton is slowly taking up space in heart and thoughts. They both discover that they are not broken, that “sometimes life bends you a little to get you on the right path.” Their relationship includes a few bumps, bruises and surprises, but GG was right again. Her Locket and the Grumpy Growler are a true love match.

This couple has found a permanent place in my heart along with the other couples featured in the previous books written by Avery Maxwell. She may be a fairly new author, but she has already mastered her craft. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
