House of Garner #6

Team Changes

Rate this book
My name is Inez Garner, and I’m a vampire princess, wife to four vampire nobles… And I think one I’m still a girlfriend to? I’m not really sure who is interested with vast ¬crazy surrounding me.
And that was before the wedding and I outed us as supes to the settlement. Too many are plotting after that—and not the good kind—but Aether is making it clear where my focus should be.
I really wish she’d leave letters instead of visions. What I must do is clear, but I know the ripples from this might cost me one of the men I love. But that’s what it means to be the princess—I make the tough choices to protect everyone.
Even if I lose myself in the process. Giving up what one person wants to save many is a smart sacrifice… Except I’m that one person who no one seems to see anymore.
If that was our only problem, we might be able to handle it. My life is never that easy though, and I get a firm answer that the apocalypse has not crossed into the post-apocalypse phase.
Seriously, does this mean I finally get to play with the fighter jets?

House of Garner is an apocalyptic, hot burning, WhyChoose romance with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who doesn’t let anyone get in her way.

How Much Can One Vampire Do?

This is book 6 in a continuing series, which means you need to read the first books before attempting this one. There is no way you could follow what’s going on without those first books.

As with the rest of this series, this book jumps straight into the action. When Inez revealed vampires and shifters to the human settlement in Texas she opened a can of worms. News of her actions reached the ears of Cerdic’s first love. Inez started getting visions in her dreams that never let her rest. They forced her into actions that she knew her husbands would never agree to. Inez puts everyone before herself and acts whilst trying to keep those she loves safe and has to face unforeseen circumstances as a result.

This book focuses a lot more on the emotions and mental strain of being, not only, a vampire but a princess who is also the champion of Aether. Inez has enormous amounts of responsibility for a 23-year-old woman who has no memories before being 18 years old. She goes from being completely alone to ruling an enormous coven and supporting 14 other covens through treaties. This kind of pressure whilst also trying to maintain relationships with 4 husbands who are hundreds of years her senior is almost impossible.

The rest of this series moves at a cracking pace, with everything getting handled immediately and competently by an intelligent and capable young woman. She throws herself headlong into everything and she and we as readers don’t have time to breathe. This book makes us all stop and take stock of what is going on. It delves into the meat of who Inez is and what she wants from her life.

On its own, this book might feel like not much happens, but as part of the series as a greater whole, it’s an important book. It’s one of the things I like about this author is that she often shows the mental and emotional wear and tear being the heroine takes. In other series, she has had other similar books where they take stock and show their vulnerable side. I admire that the author talks bluntly about mental health in a practical way in the same way she might talk about any other injury. I wish more authors did this. The more mental health is talked about in this way in fiction as well as in real life the more it will become an accepted fact in life and not something to be ashamed of.

There is a bit of a cliffhanger, which means I really can’t wait for the next book. I know I’ll have to wait though because there are several other series by this author that I want her to write too!

This series is a crazy anxiety inducing series

I both love and dislike this series so much. I love the plot , characters and mythology. However this is not a series (or the book) I would suggest to those sensitive to mental, physical or emotional abuse. I feel conflicted cause this author has the ability to pull you deep and make you emphasize with the characters but everyone and everything are highly emotionally 95% of the time. Like the whole gamut of depressive emotions with sprinkles of positive 95% of the time. There was some growth and some issues were kind of resolved but like what I tend to see in this and the one of the other series by this author I read is that sometimes it feels like drama for drama sake to extend the series.
What happens in these series are very valid and real traumatic situations but it really gets old and abusive to me as a reader fast when the fmc is repeatedly abused mentally and emotionally while surrounded by those she loves and trust. Like please I’m at the same point as Inez if that was the author’s intention of both wanting everyone to just be okay again and just going away. The way this is happening makes me wonder if the author is writing these stories like this on purpose or honestly just likes the formula and doesn’t see a reason to change to something that is less like a carrot and stick situation I feel like I’m in with this series. It’s too late now for any current series but going forward in other series maybe slow down on adding of mates into the story back to back so she can work through relationship problems that pop up more individually than this piled up mess of all the relationships are fucked up at the same time. Also maybe not so many mates if you want to introduce them fast. Maybe just let a strong fmc not have a abusive level negative sexual history at all. Like yea sex sucked or maybe partners didn’t always want sex like she wanted it but is about it.
I’m tired of the breakdowns this characters are constantly having. This like book 5 and i just want the relationship issues to be over so we can worry about the apocalypse. Is it really necessary to juggle serious relationship issues, trying to defeat a god, build an empire, help people and identity crisis all at the same time? I read to lessen my stress not borrow it and be grouchy to my family.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, I do not think this series is for everyone but it can be interesting depending on where things go from here. Also these tend to end of sort of cliffhangers. The books I mean.

I honestly never write reviews, but now I’ve felt the urge. Erin r Flynn writes amazing books and I’ve read a few of her series now. But what seems to strike me is how she makes her main characters go through al this heartbreaking grief and honestly it kind of kills my vibe after a while. This series felt the same as the Seraphina Thomas series where her men eventually keep disappointing the main character, breaking g her heart etc.

At first everything is new, the powers, the guys, and I get really into the books. But then Inez gets into the same problem with like all her men.

I love this writer and hate her at the same time. After reading all 6 books in a weekend I really feel emotionally broken. F*ck that! I kinda hate men now.
Doesn’t give me the feels anymore. I wish I had the heart to read more of her series, but now I fear they all end up like this. The last 3 books were almost all fighting, misunderstandings and bad communication. And a bunch of nonsense really. MC gets in shock or a depression, well written mind you, but also made me very sad and all the posturing and bad calls made me hate it.

If you’re looking for a light read? Do not recommend.

★★★★★ – My Favourite Erin Flynn Series, Hands Down

I absolutely love the House of Garner series. From book one all the way through book nine, Inez’s journey had me hooked. Normally anything apocalyptic - especially with zombies, would have me running the other direction, but this series is the exception. It’s brilliant, unique, and easily my favourite Flynn series (and yes, I’ve read almost everything - Artemis, I’m coming for you eventually!).

This deserves a long review because it’s just that good. The worldbuilding, the massive harem, the emotional stakes, the humour - everything works. Inez is relatable, flawed, resilient, and genuinely inspiring. She falls, grows, gets back up, and keeps fighting. She’s an absolute powerhouse of a heroine.

Also, Erin… please, I am begging: give us character glossaries. With the number of characters, species, powers, family lines, and love interests, we need a directory - especially in a long-running series. Even a website glossary would help your fans so much.

The Men (So Far)
Darius – The first, and still one of the best. He’s young by immortal standards, carrying his own trauma, and he tries so hard. He deserves happiness with Inez, and I hope he’s still around thriving at the end.

Jaxon – Love his mom, but Jaxon himself needs a lot of growth. The potential is there, but he’s not my favourite.

Kristoff – A standout! His growth has been incredible, and I’m loving the daddy/breeding-kink energy he brings. More ancient vampires in this harem, please.

Cerdic – Still on the fence. He’s fine, but his family? Yikes. I’m hoping for a redemption arc - and maybe that twin scene readers are thirsting for.

Branko – He faded into the background for a while, but now that he’s back, I’m excited again. His backstory and his mom are going to be wild, I can feel it.

James – Did not love his special scenes or his behaviour. He feels unreliable, and the “what if he finds his destined mate?” question hangs over everything. Not my pick.

The Men Who Are (Hopefully) Joining
Sisay – Friend-zoned and trying so hard to escape it. I want more for him. His friendship with Inez deserves to grow into something bigger.

Petre – My second-favourite ancient vampire. A great character, though I wasn’t thrilled about the moment with Lara. Still, I want many more scenes with him.

Vitor – My favourite ancient vampire. He’s powerful, old, fascinating, and gives off the best energy. Also I’m loving the daddy/breeding-kink energy he brings too. I need his backstory, his nationality, everything. More Vitor!

Tian – He absolutely needs to join the harem. The potential is huge, the vibes immaculate, and his story is going to break hearts. And yes, that bite scene… iconic.

Moon – Needs more page time. His connection with Inez felt important early on, but it hasn’t gone anywhere yet. Hoping for more development and clarity.

The Wishlist Men
(A girl can dream!)

Vance – What happened here? He had such strong momentum, then James swooped in and took over. Vance deserves better.

Tyson – Rooted for him early on, and his dynamics with Inez were stronger than James’s ever were. Would definitely welcome him into the harem.

CeAwlin – He’s coming, we all know it, and the twin scene potential is there! Give it to us! Give him more screen time!

Sundar – He called her “My Princess.” He said it. He’s already falling, and he deserves happiness after everything he endured. I want him in Inez’s life permanently, there is just something special about him.

Final Thoughts
I adore this series. The FMC, the MMCs, the villains, the world, the lore - everything works together beautifully. It’s emotional, action-packed, funny, sexy, and full of heart. I cannot wait for more.

5/5 stars. Absolutely amazing.

Why did you read this book?
I am wanting to get through some RH romance series I’ve put on the back burner.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an ebook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Crime, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Paranormal, Psychology, Romance, Science Fiction, Spirituality, Travel, Adult

What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILERS
I liked how she killed the evil princess in her throne room.

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes vampires, zombies, and dystopias.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? SPOILERS
This book kind of ruined the series for me. All of a sudden the guys that were sweet to her turned on her. WTF? Like others that have reviewed this book… it makes me not want to continue because I feel like every love interest is going to turn out this way. Also where is her “go F yourself” attitude? It breaks my heart that she has a mental breakdown, but it’s nice to know that there are people there for her when it happens. I understand the MC is under a ton of pressure, but what I don’t like is that she is a hypocrite. She is pissed that they don’t hunt her down but then pissed when they do because it’s inconvenient to her at the time. MC is pissed her husbands don’t help her when she is spiraling but she doesn’t try to help them when they’re spiraling either! Have the guys done some stupid things? Yes. But so has she. But when they try to make it better, she turns them away. Just saying that their bad relationship isn’t all the guys fault, it’s a two way street. Overall… I enjoyed most of the series, so I am going to give the next book a go, even though this one made me want to stop.

Are there any cliché scenes or concepts?
MC is born special with special powers. Love interests are magically attracted to her.

How intense are the intimacy scenes?
Very intense, graphically detailed. Blood play is involved (expected from vampire genre romances). Voyeurism. Knife play. Menage. Menstrual play.

At what “burn” level is the romance?
This one is as SPICY HOT as the previous book in the series.

Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender?
There are eight love interests, all males, and vampires. (Maybe more… it’s hard to tell at this point.)

Kristof – Vampire husband. Only one that really cares for her.
Cedric- Vampire husband he didn’t mess up, but has his own trauma to deal with.
Jaxon- Vampire “husband”. WTF. I use to like him. He is dead to me now.
Branko- Vampire trying to date MC.
Darius- Vampire husband trying to redeem himself.
Vitor- Vampire trying to date MC.
Moon- Vampire trying to date MC.
James- Shifter… Will they won’t they?
(Possible others include: Tien?)

Mind blown!

I fell in love with this in beginning because it was silly and not at the same time. It was a quirky break from intense while still drawing you into the main characters. It was lighthearted fun in the midst of terrifying chaos.
BUT.....
I see now that that was how you sucked me into your trap. Made me fall a
little in love with everyone, then slowly, ever so slowly smacked upside the head with reality.
We all read books to escape and I love the
ride you always take me on. The build up to the fallout was slow and brilliant because I didnt realize until I was in the middle of the explosion. It had been there from the beginning. 20/20 hindsight and all that. The red flags were there from book one, chapter one.
I desperately need more books in this series. I find myself at a loss for words to describe how much I need to continue this story.

WOW!!! All the feels

As many of her mid series books, this was an emotional roller coaster (similar to Dodging Calamities and/or Reaching Answers in the Artemis series). I love that Flynn’s books represent real emotions and relationships, things aren’t magically solved in a couple of chapters, nor do people change or deal with traumas in a streamlined manner. However the plot has been moved forward in a way that makes sense to the previous books, large situations have been dealt with, it sets up for future ones, and leaves little teasers as all her books tend to in a series. Worth the wait, and I’m going to go emotionally chow down on some pancakes because now I really want some…we can’t all have Nick make all the yummies for us so I’ll have to do it myself.

I went from really not liking Kristof to feeling like he’s the only one who deserves her 😂🙄 seriously though what is with these men. She deserves so much better - not in the sense that’s she not flawed or is perfect, but because they made vows and she’s the only one holding up her end of the bargain. She was very clear about her concerns and feeling like they were moving too fast, but they pushed anyways and then proved her right. At least with Kristof he *tries* to do better and has never once abandoned her like the other three. And you’d think they’d learn from each other and stop getting drunk and saying stupid shit. Goddess have mercy I would have murdered them all by this point 😂🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Everything has changed so much, it used to be simpler and enjoying the little thing. This had me crying and cursing “stupid” men, because I really want to punch some of them. Inez is such a strong FM ( doesn’t matter what others think) with everything going on and still expected to be on top of everything is just a load of crap. As, if that isn’t enough new dangers seem to be lurking and popping up.
Erin has done a great job of portraying that everyone has moments where a break is need, that we all can’t be strong. That it’s ok to need some “me” time. Also, damn that ending had my mind 🤯. I really can’t wait for the next book. Love Erin’s work. 💙💚

An Amazing and Emotional Read

I had been looking to this new release for a while now and it definitely did not disappoint! I truly love the complexity of the characters in all the series by this author but this book truly stood out for its descriptive emotional detail that literally had me in tears. Not to mention how realistic it made the already amazing plot. Here's hoping the men in the story do better next book although I was glad Kristoff and the other two ancients got their chance to shine. Anxiously waiting for Book 7 😬

Very exciting loving and drama filled

As i read most series and books singular. I normally wait till the series is finished. That being said incant wait for the next of this series. I am on a few of ur other books as well, but this one for some reason is special. It shows the dealings we go through as trying to find love and the mess ups from both sides while we try to navigate love. Drama is a part of love and how messy it can be so thank you for being honest in your story telling. Cant wait for the rest

There has to be more

I have loved each of Erin’s series and consumed each book quickly because the stories were that good. I love Inez and her coven… I’m slowly running out of additional series, so I cannot wait for the next book. I think I cried through most of this book. Just slow tears that had my heart aching for the pain Inez was in, as well as those around her. But man, Kristof’s emotional growth alone… so beautifully written. AMAZING. Please tell me there’s more coming soon!!!

Amazing....

This is my favourite book of this series.
This book made love Inez even more, she became so strong even when she is dealing with so much, but what i love the most is she finally stands up for herself and hopefully starts to realise how amazing she is. Now the male characters that were in the background in previous books are starting to come forward and i am really wanting them to be more centre stage.
And that ending.....
Cannot wait to read more xx

Wow just wow

Loved this continuation of inez's journey and living through the apoplectic world now being loved in. Team changes is the right title. For Inez's guys to be 1,000s of years old they sure are high maintenance. She is finally looking out for herself. There was a hilArious reference to hoarding toilet paper that I loved. Some sexy times but this one was more about Inez learning to care for herself. The ending will blow your mind. Highly recommended.

What a cliffhanger

I absolutely love Erin's books! This series has definitely not let me down either. I really empathise with Inez she has gone through and suffered sooo much! However gets up everytime. The book is good because it brings up valid issues where you explode when too much pressure is put upon you. Always make sure to take care of yourself. Cannot wait to see what the next trials come up against her!

Holy moly did the guys screw the pooch this time. Everything has taken its toll on Inez and having to take out another princess plus the guys reaction causes her to have a mental breakdown. The change of perspectives while she’s in her numb state really go to show how people miss seeing how things can build up and go too far.
I’m glad she’s working through it and will hopefully continue to work through it

All the Pancakes

While reading this, I smiled, cried, got angry, wished for nap snuggles, wanted to hit multiple drama causers, and got very hungry. I am looking forward to the next in the series and will remember to have snacks ready to go while reading. Oh if only I could make crepes, well at least pancakes are easy.

Long awaited.

I’ve been waiting for this next installment since the last book came out.
I’m so happy that Kristof was able to be a mainstay for Inez. Darius is still trying to work for forgiveness while things with Jaxon and Cedric hit the fan. I’m super team Nora with how she handled the scene between herself and Jaxon.

This book hit me in the feels again. It is super rare for people who haven't been through it to understand what it is like to hit a limit and just not be able to take any more. That is exactly what happens to Inez and while the experience is never the exact same for anyone reading about something so real to me personally and so difficult for others to understand was just huge.

Love this series!

I automatically buy every new release of this author. The next installment of House of Garner does not disappoint. Inez is pushed to her breaking point. Will the people who love her be able to pull her back from the edge? I was sucked into this story and was wrecked in the best way possible, can't wait to see what happens next!

Riveting series

I am so enjoying this series, totally hooked. Would recommend reading all the different series from this author from the beginning as they are not stand alone stories. Would also recommend the Artemis, Karma Bakery, and Seraphine series as excellent reads. These series I have read repeatedly as the next book is released.

Great addition

This was a great addition to Inez’s story. I am happy that it seems she is finally going to start working in her feelings and what she wants. I did feel that this was a little shorter than normal but that could be because of where it finished. I just want to know more! Great job Erin for another great book in a wonderful series.

Keep them coming

It truly amazes me how an authors mind works, and I’ve never seen an author that has truly thought of every aspect of a book, every little detail well thought out and explained for the ready. You have an amazing gift with your words. I am in awe of you and will be a die hard fan of yours to the very end.

Can’t wait to see

I love this series. I have read it multiple times and after each new book, I wait on the edge of my seat to see what happens next. The relationships are never perfect, which is perfect given how chaotic their lives are. I’m waiting to see what happens next in the world and in her relationships.

Can't wait for more of Inez's story. I love her and Kristof and I hope he continues to be the foundation of trust that she needs. I also hope that her and Darius work out. I'm confident he'll prove himself to her with time. Looking forward to her other relationships developing, too. (Honestly more intrigued by that than whatever is going on with the Erebus champion.)

The turning point

Oh my goodness, the first time I read this book it seriously made me cry for poor Inez, it hit me in the feels so hard. For obvious reasons this book had more of the Male POV and I love getting that glimpse into their thought processes. And the new twist at the end has me looking forward to the next book.
