This Love
***SPOILER ALERT***
Boy, was that a winding road of all the things. Talk about two people so deserving of love, yet couldn't quite get it together to see that the love they had for each other could sustain an everlasting bond. Although the journey was long, it happened as it should've.
As hard of a time as it was for many people, I'm glad that the author took us back to September 11, 2001 and the tragedy of that day. I can remember that day as if it was yesterday and oddly, I was heading into my high school classroom, much like Hassani and Ayla were, when things started to become clear to us all what that day would hold for us for the rest of our lives. While somber, I'm glad all the feels from that time were in this storyline.
Ayla and her parents were so loving to read about. The love and bond she had with her dad was one I wish I had. He was a real man, whom showered his wife with affection and doted on his daughter too. Although she only had him for 14 years, the times they shared would stay with her forever. I like that he liked Hassani for her and that he was able to express that to her before he passed. Hassani was her rock in the aftermath of her dad passing. Even when he didn't know what to say or do, he was there. That young love hit them hard and I was here for it. Being each other's first and how they went about it was intriguing. These two surely had some very good people giving and showing them very bad examples of how to be in love young. Although she looked up to her Aunt Laurie, I hate that seeing her Aunt so free and unattached and her mom losing the love of her life, set her up for a life of fear of being hurt and it almost cost her, her forever love.
Hassani was alright in my book. He loved Ayla from day 1 of them meeting yet took the horrible advice of his father and didn't explore anything besides friendship with Ayla, until she presented they be each other's first. While I love that he respected his dad's opinion, he knew he should've been with Ayla the whole time. Their love for each other was inevitable. I like that even though he could've bragged about his first time with Ayla, that he kept it between them, unlike his friends and their conquest. What I wasn't ready for was him "practicing" with his newest girl so he could please Ayla the way he really wanted to. I didn't care for them doing it while both with their prom dates, yet I like that he knew what he had to do😏.
Hassani was looking for what he wanted with Ayla in every girl he was with. She friend zoned him constantly and while he was searching, so was she. Her fear kept her from truly being open in relationships; fear and the fight to realize that Hassani was the only man she loved and wanted. To be young and in love.
I didn't like Marcus, Hassanis' high school friend from jump. He seemed to be jealous of Hassani and I wasn't feeling his vibes at all. Then to find out that he not only knew and helped plan the trip for Hassani to be away to get an engagement ring for his college fling turned girlfriend turned fiance, Sienna, but that he snuck in and slept with her too. I think had Ayla not shown up, Sienna would've never told Hassani about that time with Marcus. Neither of them deserved Hassani or his loyalty to them and I'm glad he didn't make the mistake of tying himself to Sienna, even if she was his plan b.
I need more on these two asap. I'm sure after I look more into Brookelyn Mosley's catalog or site, I'm bound to find an update. These two deserve a splendid HEA with lots of babies and even more Love.
Such a great read. Highly recommend.
