I set off on the 18th of April 2018 with some nervousness, trepidation and a great deal of excitement on an exploration in which I didn't know what I'd find, who I'd meet and what, if anything I'd learn.
Open me up and join me inside as I reveal what an amazing journey this has been. A journey which starts at the end of every Transport for London (TfL) line - from Abbey Wood to Woolwich Arsenal. 79 stations in all along the Underground, Overground, DLR, TfL Rail, Tramway and Emirates Air Line. Some you'll know, some you won't and some you may find as unexpected stops along the way. You might even find yourself saying 'well I didn't know that!'
Enjoy this snapshot of a colourful London; discover with me the inner and outer reaches of our capital city, and share in my experiences as I reveal the story behind each picture. Join me on this transformation as I turn my pictures into a story.
Memories from The End Of The Line. For anyone with interest in London, travel, photography, or all three, this is a great and rewarding coffee table book.
And what a book! Visually stunning, packed with striking photographs, and outstanding character. An exceptional book.
Well done, Richard Thomas, you should be very proud!
This is a beautiful and inspirational book of high quality. The photos are outstanding, capturing so many interesting and quirky London sights. The concept of “the end of the line” works so well and the author’s insights really help. This a great coffee table read also a brilliant gift. Highly recommended!
Memories from The End Of The Line is a truly sumptuous book. The photography captures the essence of the special stories Richard Thomas shares with us from his exploration of London through his Tube journeys. This book is a pure joy to leaf through and is beautifully presented.
This is the epitome of a great coffee table book - ideal for dipping into, with stunning photos, creative design and engaging stories on every page.
It’s not surprising Richard has spent several years gathering his material for this book - the quality is excellent but, if it were only a set of photographs, it wouldn’t be a quarter of the masterpiece it has become. It is the combination of each stand-out photo, its back-story and associated description/anecdote about the station environment represented, and the outstanding book design by Jenn Garside, that make this book unique.
Throw in a quiz, with questions scattered through the book, and technical details on each photo to satisfy those inspired to follow in Richard’s footsteps, and this book becomes a most tasty selection box indeed.
It has always been a dream of mine to ride the rails of the entire London Underground system. I live too far away so any ideas of visiting the places with the evocative names were out of my reach. Until now! Richard Thomas has transported me to so many of the places I wanted to visit, and he has come back with stunning photos and little snippets of stories from so many people. This is not a book to read in one go. I look at the map and decide where I want to go and follow the route taking in all the goodies along the way. Thank you, Richard for making one of my dreams come true. This afternoon I think I'll climb aboard for Theydon Bois. What a name.
Honestly the quality of this book is outstanding and at an incredible price in the feel of the pages and the quality of the print. The incredible photography used throughout the book is truly artistic as we follow Richard on his incredible couple of years journey to create this super informative book for you of the London Underground, Tram and Overground routes and a brief visitors guide at each place. A little history, and keeps you interacting with questions to answer throughout the book. Top quality, an incredibly interesting book and a must have. Almost makes you feel you want to visit London City just to experience the journey.
A masterpiece of a book! Beautifully photographed throughout, the author and photographer Richard Thomas takes the reader on a journey of travelling to stations throughout the London area. Whilst not stations and places I personally know well, the book holds many fascinating pieces of information and images which carry the reader on a journey of discovery. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in travel and exploring new and familiar places. The book brilliantly documents a social history, capturing places and faces in moments of time.
A celebration of the world on our doorstep. If you like travel, trains and London, you’ll love this. Richard Thomas has an eye for a story and this glossy coffee-table book explores a lesser-known London through insightful images and accompanying text. Memories from the end of the line is probably my personal favourite of 2021. Truly captivating.
A lovely coffee table book, which I dip in and out of every weekend. There are some stunning pictures, together with some interesting words. A special book which will be of interest to Londoners or ex-Londoners like me. It's an opportunity to reminisce and also learn about the many stations I haven't yet visited.
More than just a collection of snapshots of London, this wonderful book by Richard Thomas, takes you on an amazing photographic journey of discovery to 79 destinations, showing the eclectic and diverse features of our capital city. What a fabulous book!
Stunning photographs Richard has an amazing talent of bringing his subjects to life A wonderful coffee table book. A wonderful insight to London in a different way made me want to go and investigate more myself. Thank you Richard looking forward to your next book
Beautiful book for a coffee table that I keep going back to so I can enjoy the photos and Richard's incisive text. He has a good eye for details and for stories, and for bringing out the real personality of London - it's not just tourist attractions and traffic in this city!
