The Dolces broke me, but with perseverance and dedication, Royal has begun to heal me.

He nourishes my body and soul, and if I let him, he might just save me. But I’m not sure I can let him.

After what he did, how can I let myself love again?

But how can I help myself?

Royal may be a broken man, even a monster, but he didn’t become that way overnight. He didn’t get there alone. I was part of his destruction, just as he was part of mine.

And just as he has moved worlds to help me, I must atone for what I’ve done, too.

When he offers me everything I’ve ever wanted, I realize I still have work to do in Faulkner.

That means healing Royal, uniting this town, and bringing down the Dolce empire once and for all.

This time, I'm not alone.
This time, I have allies.
This time, a poor girl from the trailer park might just win it all.

This is the final book in the Willow Heights Prep Academy: The Exile series. If you need TW, this author is not for you. Recommended for readers 18+ ONLY.

NOTE: Though this the last book about Royal and Harper, they make appearances in other books set in this world. Check author profile for suggested reading order.

Overall Opinion :
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD…

Okkkkkk… I read a lot of dark romance and almost 99% I am comfortable with it. No matter what the hero does, I wrap my head around it and adjust. But holy shit, the logic of this book went over my head.
I don't give out many one stars but this time I can't help it. I will list the reasons why I found this whole series so bad. I would also like to mention that I don't mean to insult anyone or the author. It's great that a lot of people like this series but it's not for me. People have choices and there is nothing wrong with that. I will try to be as polite as possible lmao but forgive me if I lose it at some character's behavior because holy hell some scenes pissed me off.

-->> Okk so first let's talk about Royal. He was so very broken after what he went through. He had been raped by the people who kidnapped him and they took away something from him thus turning him into s monster. Now his only aim was to destroy the people who had destroyed him. Not only those people but their whole family. Just the surname was enough for him to make new enemies. I got his reasons, okk? I understand that stuff like that breaks a person and he was somewhat justified.
What I didn't like at ALL was the exact same thing he did to Harper. He knew how much it would break her. Yes she told your secrets, then you should have humiliated her in some other verbal way!! You wanted revenge, well there are plenty of other things to do but doing the same thing that happened with you and then expecting her to forgive you was fucking rubbish. I just can't wrap my head around it. I lost my patience with this series in the last book only but I read this one because I needed some redemption but nope. Even dumber stuff here.
Royal had his brothers rape harper after tying her to a tree and blindfolding her. WTF? Like WTF??? He went through the same thing, is there nothing like Empathy?? How could you hurt someone like that you just loved? Also he was himself willing to kill people to avenge his trauma but the girl was just supposed to forgive his disgusting ass and his brothers. Not only that but she had to live with them and act friendly. I don't think I would have been satisfied with anything other than Royal dying in this series. The most disgusting hero ever. Him justifying his actions just made me want to kill him more.

-->> Now let's talk about Harper. In the third book, Royal so kindly cheats on her because she does not want to forgive him and 'she tells him so'. Then later she takes the blame for his cheating because the poor man was just doing what she had said he should. What a niiceeeee man. So obedient. I wonder where he was when she was screaming at his brothers to stop raping her. He just stood there and watched. Freaking disgusting. And then in this book Harper proceeds to say sorry to Royal for her betrayal and here I was like, bitch you deserved her betrayal and so much more. It's not like Royal and his brothers had been saints to her right from the start. They had always bullied her and then finally broke her. AND SHE FORGIVES THEM.
Now in this book they are one big happy FAMILY that is together to destroy their villains and enemies. Harper just simply spread her legs for Royal the moment he touched , like in other situations it would be attractive that a girl finds the hero so attractive but not in this situation , she just seemed hollow as well and the whole scene was always shallow. I couldn't stomach reading any of their intimate scenes because I was just soo freaking disgusted , I am sorry ughh.

Like what the hell? Everything in this series was fine, I have read much darker bully romance and I was ok with it but that scene of gang rape even though the hero went with the same thing, I just can't wrap my head around it. His brothers then tell her that she betrayed them so she paid. SIMPLE. Omgggg. I don't think I have ever been this angry. This series started off great but that ending of book three and the shitshow after it, pushed this one to a 0 star for me.

Definitely recommending you all to never read this series for the sake of your mental sanity. Like I said above, I have no probably with dark and twisted heroes but what I don't like at all are dumb heroine who act all tough and queen like but in reality are the most doormat people ever. That was Harper . She was the supposed queen but she had no spine at all. No wonder she forgave them all. What a nice person. I would have burned them all. I have never read such hypocritical people.

Okk so I loathe the hero of this series, here's what he did (( he takes revenge on the heroine by tying her to a tree or something and watches while his two brothers rape her. All the while this is happening, he let's her think that it is the whole football team having their way with her and not just his brothers. This does not happen at the start of the book when they were strangers but in book 3 when they had confessed their 'love' for each other. There is next to none groveling and ughh it made me crazy with anger lmao)) , but I am hooked with a plot and have this crazy urge to know what happens at the end so here we go 🤦‍♀️ This is freaking painful 🤣🤣🤣🤣

So, how is what Harper did to him in any way comparable to Royal giving his brothers permission to repeatedly rape her and then kill her? In what world, real or fictional, is that justified and then forgiven? Answer: when he gives good d*ck 🙄 real love y’all. No, no, wait, something that transcends love 🥴

Harper should never have had to breathe the same air as her rapists let alone have to continue to be taunted and tormented by them. But then to have her actually comfort one of them? TRASH

Because words aren't enough...

She's in this with me, whether she likes it or not, until one of us draws our last breath.
- Royal

Book 5 was an opera d'art, a treasure, a culmination of a devotion to two remarkable, incomparable characters -- Royal and Harper, caustic family, fawning and untrustworthy peers, as well as Dolce-Darling rivalry within a ravaged town called Faulkner. Clandestine mafia dealings, power plays, and secret society also ran concurrently.

An arc of destruction to renewal, this was Harper and Royale's redemption, a scarred, emotional mending of brokenness.

"I don't care if you're broken in a million pieces. I will find every single one of them, and I'll put them back together... because I'm that glue. I'm a part of you now, Harper. Every break is mine. Every healing is mine. Every scare is mine."
- Royal

There was growth, and there was healing.

In this story, we experienced the fruition of Harper and Royal's union, their intimacy, their personal and unique sentiments of a love that can't be expressed in the triteness of words. And while there was certainly tension, there was no unwarranted push and pull, no withholding of communication for the pretense of artificially promoting angst. It was just beautiful, skillful storytelling of immense depth and maturity portraying feelings that were at times rocky but always cathartic, passionate, and raw. Harper remained fierce but mellowed, and resolved; Royal, broody, jealously protective, fighting misgivings from insecurity. Their chemistry was charged, magnetic, sizzling. Their relations, so deliciously spicy, decidedly kinky, were some of the hottest scenes I've read. And Royal was a dirty-talker with prowess, unfiltered, dominating and all-consuming.

“I’m going to f*ck you so hard your soul leaves your body, and then I’m going to fill it with my cum... And you won’t be able to remember your own name.”
- Royal

And Royal would place the world at Harper’s feet.

This story encompass more than just Harper and Royal. It involved the whole town -- friendships new and old, steadfast ones that might have been taken for granted; immediate and extended family, feuding families. Familiar side characters like the Dolce twins, their father, Harper’s mother, Colt, Gloria, some members of the football team, schoolmates Magnolia Darling, and others’ storylines intertwined. I was touched by the friendship Harper shared with Blue, her sister Olive, was non-judgmental, accepting; and with Preston, safety and solace, both always available.

Part love story, part suspenseful intrigue, how the author tied multiple storylines together, progressing them, sealing some, and introducing leads with others was phenomenal. I was captivated, and I was invested, even the bad had an integral role.

Multi-dimensional and flawed -- like real life -- yet alluring, everyone grew in a measured way, along their path of good or not so good. Yet character identities remained authentically true to their personalities. I delighted in the consistency in character. There were no implausible personality shifts. There was simply a realism and honesty that was moving and fresh like no other books I've read. Intricate, edgy, romantic, and artfully woven.

With scarred, broken edges, Royal and Harper were the perfect complement to each other, the sun and the sunflower. Harper handled his roughness, even relished in it while being his strongest advocate. Their love was tumultuous and magical, not a conventional, rosy love. It was raw and gritty, powerful and biting.

They fit.

"You've always been mine, and you'll always be mine. Your body is mine, your pleasure is mine, your soul is mine."
- Royal

He's it. He's my sun, my savior, my destruction. And I am his.
- Harper

A soul-searing series, its finale that will forever own a place in my heart. Royal and Harper were two of the most complex characters I’ve ever read. And the way they lived their love through action rather than the simplicity, the inadequacy of words, was poetic, spiritual. Because "I love you" isn’t enough.

Redemption can manifest in distinctive, unconventional ways. Find your sun.

Even if I really hated the end of book 3 and I didn't see how there can be redemption after the rape, Selena's writing was good enough to keep me going (and even, I admit, looking forward) to the other books.
This book was the last chance, after book 4 fails, to administrate justice and redemption for Harper even if I didn't see what can be done to make her feel whole and better again.

But no...
This book is even far worse in my opinion because instead of a walk of shame, of thousands of excuses from the three Dolces brothers, the twins are constantly saying that the rape was nothing, the fact that Harper was tied and raped and left alone to die in the swamp was nothing she didn't deserve because of what? She betrayed Royal's secret?
The rape was awful
The way Preston "took care" of her and raped her in his own way
The way the twins, especially Baron are threatening to do it again
The way Royal called her is little whore
... and the way Harper even is still ok to live at the Dolce's with those people... It was really too much.

I read a lot of dark romances and I have read about many twisted and toxic relationship. But for me, the fact that Royal allows his brothers to rape her was an unforgivable act. From this, there is not any love story left even and I'm so sad because I liked Royal even if he was so fucked up and I love the way Harper fought for herself even if she was attracted to him.

But at the end, and I think the author wanted to show that Harper is resilient and strong, everything is so unrealistic and horrible.
She gives him everything, body and soul, forgives him but still she felt guilty because she didn't really did anything for him? This is as if she agreed with the twins and said that her betrayal was equal to Royal's one.
And then she brings her sister back (sooo easily by the way) , saves him from himself (or kind of...) and everything is supposed to be ok?

So yeah, in case you didn't notice, I'm quite mad because I really wanted to like it and I can't because deep down I can't forgive such unforgivable actions...

So 2 stars because I wanted to see the family gathering and the end of the Capulet and Montaigu...sorry Dolces & Darling truce. And because I like Selena's writing, she made so many villainous character ! ( Baron, at the end in the car... I want to know what happens to Blue but he is so fucked up, I'm afraid she will give him a happy ending he really doesn't deserve!)

Sick and twisted

I'm into some dark romance but this Arthur takes it too far. I want to say the rape was a hard point for me not because she gets raped and how it all goes down but because the twins don't really care they raped her. Baron wanted too and Duke did too, even though Duke tries to apologize to her he messes the whole thing up with the whole video and the things he says. But Harper doesn't care about herself enough to walk away from the Dolces. Royal apologize and seems sorry enough but that choice he made giving the green light so she can be raped well you just can't come back from that. I think that's when the book took a huge fall from me. So I read this one out of curiosity mostly. But it's just not for me. He calls he his little whore and it's so demeaning after she technically is a whore when so many have had her. It's cringe worthy. Then the end with Baron, I see he might have a book coming out but he is so demented I can't see myself liking the book. Why did I read it if I hate these last 3 books? I'm in a bit of a book slump. Do I recommend this book ? No, imwouldnt recommend it to anyone.

THIS FUCKING SERIES!!!

If I have ever recommended you a book or series this is the one time you should definitely listen to me. This series is by far one of favorites of all time The whole Willow Heights Series is phenomenal. It is dark thru out the entire series. This isn’t a Bully book that eases off after a chapter or two.. oh no this is HARDCORE bully. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

There was never a boring moment. The twist and turns are serious mindfucks. The darkness the MC (Royal) has is intoxicating. I love that depraved son of a bitch. Anti hero perfection! Harper is a strong FC that never backs down and gives it as good as she gets it. I love that she holds her own in every situation with out coming off as stuck up or to much of a bad ass. She is put thru the wringer and Selena gives it to us gritty every step of the way.

Please read triggers. This series gets dark.

READ THIS SERIES!

There is nothing about this series I like after reading all the books. I like dark romance novels but this series is SICK!

No women would forgive royal or his brothers for what they did, and I would of rather Harper have ended the series going off on her own.

I honestly don’t understand the 5 star ratings.

I like a dark romance novel, but if a women gets physically hurt and raped by the MMC or he lets it happen and encourages it then that is a hard NO from me.

And I honestly think it was the authors duty to tell the readers exactly what the triggers were going into this series and not just saying “if you have triggers don’t read” it’s very vague and I’m sure a lot of people like myself never expected to read such an awful thing happen to a young women.

Royal continued to call her names and treat her like a dog he owned rather then someone he loved.

I literally can not stand this series and the fact I wasted so much time reading it has pissed me off!

This series is now a favourite High School Bully series for me. I’ve been addicted to everything about it from the first few pages in book 1. I’m soooo upset it’s over but I could see how their story needed to come to that fabulous ending.

There is so much emotion throughout this book, Royal gets more possessive but opens up more and you finally get to see a few things that make him tick.

Harper is her strong badass self and her determination to do the right thing is always there. I love her so much, she’s such an incredible FMC. I especially loved it when she realised she has her own made family full of friends that will help whenever she needs it 😍

All the secrets finally come out and throw things upside down. Some I knew where coming and others threw me for a loop as usual. So much is going on but it flows effortlessly making such a fab story line.

The spice definitely ramps up more in this book 🥵 Harper’s ability to heal and make peace with everything she’s endured without compromising herself is beautiful.

My favourite quote from this book:
“Not every girl wants the perfect Prince Charming,” I say, standing and snagging Royal’s T-shirt from my suitcase. “Some girls prefer the Beast.”

I have nothing but amazing things to say about this series as I loved every minute. It’s a multi POV book but mainly Harper or Royal. There is some dark themes so please check TW. I can’t wait to see what other books come from this wonderfully world 🖤

Oh man, how can I write this review without giving spoilers?!?!....

OK firstly I can't believe Harper and Royals story is done. That's it, 5 books. Five freakingly, stunningly beautiful masterpieces! (can you tell I love this world?!) I've lived and breathed these characters since their first book. I know we will see them both again in future books so I'm happy! I need everyone else's stories now!

Wow, I still can't believe we are finally here. Selena you have done a brilliant job at weaving all these books together with all the attention to detail and little Easter eggs placed throughout. This world is brilliant. These characters are brilliant. Harper is such a strong FMC and Royal, well let's say I like him again!
Selena ties up this book and Harper and Royals story in a lovely Selena bow that only Selena can deliver in Selena style. Which means expect the unexpected and no matter what you feel like doing to your kindle, carry on reading!! Twists, turns, WTF moments it has it all and more.

I cannot hype this series up enough, it is brilliant. Dark, delicious, depraved, it has it all. In spades! If you're thinking of starting this series please, please, please read the trigger warnings before you do.

A fantastic ending to a fantastic series! I can't wait for everyone else's stories, I really don't want to let go 🖤🖤

-Blue y Baron. Se que el es un enfermo pero my mind is fcked, so let me be. Y Blue no es débil, y necesita una pareja fuerte.
-Duke con quien sea que no sea Olive. No da. Es una niña. That’d be weird AF.
Cada gemelo con una pareja diferente, creo que todos los libros de gemelos, son MFM 🤡
-Mav también con quien sea

Just came back to say how much I fucking hate Preston. He was a rapist. En toda la palabra.
It’s even worst that he doesn’t own his actions, at least take twins are sociopaths but they own it.
La victimización me da demasiada cólera!

This series is not for everyone, especially not for the ones who need trigger warnings.
This is beyond bullying.

These masterpieces are so brutal, dark and twisted that sometimes it really gets tough to digest some parts of the story.
I actually doubt my psychological well-being for enjoining this so much.

Royal and Harper’s love, as fucked up as it is, is by far one of my favorite love stories.
Even if it’s sick, tainted and depraved, together they are unstoppable and limitless.

Harper is fierce and powerful, she’s poor and has no one by her side.
Royal is rich and has a big family watching his back, apparently he has it all, but he’s damaged beyond repair, he can be a girl worst nightmare, and I just couldn’t help my self falling for him.

I also have a soft spot for Baron, who is beyond madness (can’t wait to read his and Duke’s duet).

The first book: “Bad Apple” is the one I loved the most, but all five books were addictive and I just couldn’t get enough (I’ve re-read “Bad Apple”, “Brutal Boys” and “Boys Club” three times now).

The story and the way Selena wrote it, is compelling, so while I was waiting for the release of “Broken Doll” I also read all “The Elite” series to learn more about the Dolce’s family ( it was an obsession)

I liked it a lot, but “The Exile” is by a long shot my favorite.
Full of mystery, drama and passion, it was everything for me.

Now that I finished “Blood Empire”, the ending book, I’m sad that I won’t read more about Royal and Harper, I already miss them.

I really don’t want to let them go.

Thanks Selena, for writing these brilliant series, and make me feel all this controversial emotions.

Satisfying ending to the series

I’ve been waiting for this book since the beginning and I am so satisfied with that ending. Although, now I can’t wait for more in this world. Harper and Royal’s story has many ups and downs, maybe more downs, but it did end on a high, one they both deserved. Mostly. I think it’s their own type of happily ever after.

I know there’s been a lot of hate in regards to this couple, especially with Royal and his actions towards Harper and most people around him. However, I think that Harper did bring out the good in Royal and he did love her in his own way.

I love that the previous/connected series met with this book to help complete the happily ever after. It felt like an extra epilogue of Crystal and Devlin’s series too. I also loved that this book ended with openings for books of Preston and the twins. I would also love a book with Colt’s story because he deserves a happily ever after as well. Pleeeease.

I adore Selena’s writing and I cannot wait to continue following her journey.

I can't believe Harper and Royal's story is done! I love these two so much and I am so sad their story is over. This final book in the series is a great end for one of my favorite book couples.

"I'm inside you, and I'll never go away. I'll always be there. Every break is mine. Every healing is mine. Every scar is mine."

I can't say much about this book without giving any spoilers or too much away, so I will just say that Harper and Royal go through all the emotions of forgiveness, both of them. Royal is absolutely fantastic in the book. His character manages to stay true to form, yet still shows the side that totally lives and dies for Harper. Harper is still fierce, but not brashly so. Seeing her grow with her independence and relationships is so full circle!

While the book majority is Harpers POV, we do see several other POVs which I really liked. We see some old characters reappear, and some new characters that standout. Some of our beloved characters may disappoint and my heart is still trying to wrap around some of the events that happen in the book. In one word, it is FANTASTIC.

This is definitely the worst book of the series! I can't even believe I finished it. This one was a disaster. I expected bad ass Harper. Not roll over and let douche bag Royal do whatever he wanted to her. I like dark books, even with some unredeemable heroes, but Royal is a disaster. Harper, who is supposed to be a bad ass, just rolls over after not only what he did to her but after sleeping with someone else because he was frustrated. I don't get it. I don't get this book. Harper, I felt, went backward in this book. I loved her strength in the others. Even when she was broken, she still showed that she was strong. I didn't see any of that in this story. I actually felt this book was completely unnecessary

This marks the end of the epic journey that was Harper and Royal's story! I'm so sad Royal will not be the main feature in Selena's stories as he's been my boy from day 1 and will continue to be one of my top 3 book boyfriends.

This story provides closure to a lot of loose threads while opening up stories to be told by side characters like Preston, the twins and hopefully Colt/Gloria.

Harper does a lot of reflection on her relationship with Royal and inevitably concludes they belong together. Royal proves he loves Harper in his own way and that she's endgame for him....even though he doesn't trust her? They still have a lot to work out but are committed.

Tony gets his consequence although not as much as he deserved.

Preston was absolutely loveable. Only Selena could make him so hateful to loveable from one series to the next.

We see Crystal and Devlin again. A glimpse into their life and their reentry into Faulkner and their reunion with the Dolce brothers.

All in all a satisfactory ending!

I don’t even know where to begin with these books. I stumbled across Bully Me by sheer luck.

At the time, I was in a proper reading slump. Everything I picked up bored me, and I struggled to reach the finish line.

Selena is a new author for me. I’d never heard of her, nor her books. My expectations were pretty low when I downloaded Crystal’s and Devlin’s stories. I never expected to be sucked into the dark, twisted world of Darling and Dolce drama. It is very rare that an entire series can hold my attention long enough to binge read every book, but Willow Heights absolutely drained the life out of me. Literally. I have lost so much sleep.

I will try really hard to avoid spoilers because I think readers should go into this series blind.

I want to start by saying that these books will not be everyone’s cup of tea. The author didn’t lie. The triggers warned you. The characters are dark, borderline psychotic, mentally unhinged and almost irredeemable. They challenge your forbearance levels and take you down some very uncomfortable roads. I often found myself rooting for them in one breath, then hating them in the next breath.

It started with the Darlings. Devlin, Preston and Colt. They were awful to Crystal Dolce. In fact, they treated everyone who never carried the Darling name like inferiors. Everything was one sickening game of cruel dominance and submissiveness. You never knew if they were lying or genuine or what they had up their sleeve.

Devlin Darling took a liking to his new neighbour, Crystal Dolce. She was the new girl in town with crazy arse brothers, King, Royal, Duke and Baron.

The Dolce family had Mafia ties, but we see very little of that in Bully Me, Betray me and Bury Me because the storyline mostly revolves around the Darlings.

The Dolce boys are here to stake their claim on every segment of the town and its people—Darling hierarchy be-damned. They’ll do anything—and I mean anything—to get to the top (there is a reason for this, thanks to Daddy Dolce). They want every politician and their brother in their pockets to take down the Darling empire, and they won’t stop, even if it kills them.

The Darling family are just as evil, just as stubborn and just as vindictive as the Dolce family. They, too, will do whatever it takes to protect their family name and legacy.

It’s a gritty retelling of Romeo and Juliet, I suppose. Two enemies-to-lovers amidst warring families.

Bury Me ends on a huge, shocking cliffhanger that tips the scales between Dolces and Darlings. All I will say is Devlin and Crystal, with or without their families blessing, found more than love in each other and had to take drastic measures to be happy.

Where do we go after three books of constant chaos? Back to the Darlings, right? Nope. Not even close.

When I started Bad Apple, the sister series of Willow Heights, I did not expect to see the Dolce boys on the throne and the Darlings squashed under their thumbs. I mean, they completely changed the town's dynamics and had every minion in high school marching to their drum. Everyone is terrified of them and rightfully so. These boys take bullying to an entirely new level of what-the-f*ck?!

Royal is the ultimate bully. His brothers, Duke and Baron, are probably the cruellest twins I have ever read in any dark bully romance. The brothers did what was expected of them. They understood the assignment. They tore down the Darling empire and became everyone’s worst nightmare.

I am still reeling from this! I went from absolutely hating Preston and Colt Darling for their sickening behaviour towards the Dolces to rooting for them. I wanted sweet revenge for Crystal, but I was not prepared for the shocking turn of events or the unforgivable Dolce behaviour. All I can say is Colt did not deserve it! Preston did not deserve it!

Insert Harper Apple, the trailer park girl from the wrong side of town with a huge chip on her shoulder, and deservingly so, who lands a scholarship at Willow Heights because Mr D, the philanthropist who she does not know, or has never met, landed in her DM one morning and offered to be her fairy godmother. This man is an opportunist, though. He will help Harper just as long as she checks in on messenger every Friday to give him information on the Dolces. I mean, all the way through, I figured Mr D was Preston Darling, who is finally going to come out of hiding to take down the Dolces and regain control of his hometown. No spoiler. But I never expected Mr D to be the ultimate reveal at the end, like, what even?

Anyway, Harper is a badass heroine. Yeah, she is weak where Royal Dolce is concerned, but she always comes back fighting and gives just as good as she gets. I loved her character and everything she stood for. I loved how, layer by layer, she peeled away Royal’s dark armour until we got to see snippets of the boy we fell in love with in Bully Me—and she did all this while living her worst life, too. I never lost hope. I knew Royal was still in there somewhere. I knew if anyone could reach him and bring him back, it would be Harper. And that girl went through so much to be with Royal. He never deserved her love nor forgiveness, but still, I was rooting for them. These were just two young kids sucked into Daddy Dolces’ gruesome world of revenge and violence.

I could pinpoint everything I loved and hated about these books, but I stand by what I said earlier. If you love dark, bully romance books, Selena is the author for you.

I am gutted the series is over. I never wanted it to end. Even though Selena tied up loose ends, I still want more (yes, I’m a greedy book whore; sue me). I want Colt’s story, Preston’s story, Duke’s story and even Baron, who is beyond redemption. And mostly, I want more of Harper and Royal.

I am not ready to say goodbye to Willow Heights or the Darlings, or the Dolces.

Ok i like dark romances as a rule but some of the content (the graphic rape) didnt sit right with me. Which i did make clear in my review for book 3 where it happened. I decided to finish reading the series to see where it would go in the last two books. In this final book it was touched upon but not really confronted. Royal but more to the point Baron & Duke seemed to believe that what they did was justified and they had no remorse what so ever about how vile they were. I did struggle to get my head around how Harper & Royal even had a relationship after that in this book.

To say that this series was dark and twisted would be an understatement. That was definitely what the plot twists as well as Harper & Royal's relationship was.

If i take all of that out of the equation for a moment though the actually story and the other characters in it made for a compelling read for me. Harper (take out her lack of any straight thinking in regards to Royal) was actually a character i liked. In some part there was some payback served but others got away scott free as far as i can tell but i will say that im curious to see what will happen to those characters in future books. As a whole even if i took out the parts i had a hard time reading the majority of it was a gripping read. So a book of two halves for me

This was the conclusion I’ve been waiting for and was definitely not let down nor disappointed. Even with it being based off high school students, the depths at which these characters feel and experience were so intense and chaotic.

𝙄’𝙢 𝙖 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙤𝙬, 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙥𝙚𝙧.

Harper has grown so much during these five books. How she carries herself with so much pain and still holds her head high, explains just how tough she actually is.

𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱.

Royal’s character was so intense throughout this entire series. Learning all his secrets that has shaped him into who he is as a man, willing to place the entire world at Harper’s feet.

𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳*𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗺…𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲.

Royal and Harper’s chemistry was absolutely insane, magnetically charged. Their constant give and take, evening the other and calming the havoc deep inside. Royal’s dominance shown through their kinkiness with his dirty talk, all-consuming prowess, putting Harper first. The perfect ending to a perfect storm.

Somehow even though this series is twisted, dark, trigger happy and demented....I am obsessed. Crazy toxic relationships and I'm first in line to take in all of the abuse. Royal and Harper are jagged, broken pieces that somehow complete each other. Just when you think the road to redemption and forgiveness are well underway...another twist comes out of nowhere and punches you in the gut. The complex characters keep throwing another surprise in your face and you stare at them wide-eyed and mouth gaping open. I'm so happy that although Harper and Royal's story is complete...we are getting more stories about other main characters. YES! Wishes do come true! These series involving the Dulces and Darlings are so freaking dark with uncomfortable acts that make you shudder. I definitely recommend if you like the ickiness of dark reads that keep you guessing and pushing you to your limits.

This was such an amazing series. I love bully books but the storyline in this series was simply too captivating for words. At times the fetishes were a bit too much to stomach and there are some serious triggers but the story behind the darkness is all I could have asked for, and more!

Who needs love when you can hate someone for forever?!

I can't wait for Preston's story and any other side ventures that are coming our way. This is my new must-read author.

I don’t know what to say after all of this. It’s been a very long and confusing journey.

I find it very strange that someone became the huge villain in the end. I just don’t understand why this person’s arc switched, especially in book 4.

At the end of the day, the series was okay, very very degrading to women, but I can see why some people are truly series.

After all that drama and the chaos, in the end of books 3, this series for me is this along convoluted blink on the scale of my dark romances.

Would I recommend this? I am split because of all that happens to Harper. Yeah if you do you like dark dark romance than, I think you would like this.

But I also want you to understand that there is no romance. It just seems like a big obsession for both parties.

What a great way to wrap up this series up. I felt like plenty of things were answered and I love the setup for future books.

I’m happy with how Harper and Royal story ended. Royal had me on a roller coaster since book 1 and to see him own his feelings had me cheering. Harper in this book I felt she grew so much and she also learned about herself more too.

I’m interested in seeing how the future books goes. So I’m going to be a fan until Selena is done with this world.

I'm just invested in them all and I can't wait to read more!

Absolutely amazing! Fell in love with this series from the very beginning- and loved it until the very last page. So sad to see these characters’ stories end, but loved the ending that both Royal and Harper got! Spectacular job, Selena! I can’t wait to see what you write next! I definitely recommend purchasing this series. It’s for sure a reread!!

AHHH! SELENA!!

Ok, right off the bat, there will probably be spoilers galore in this review which will also probably be pretty long… so buckle up.

Selena I think is the only author out there whose books I can’t stop thinking about for weeks and sometimes months after I read them. This series and the Bully Me series specifically. She, in my opinion, is a master storyteller. Her characters are so well developed and she is so clever with all the scenarios and shenanigans her characters get up to. Her world building is phenomenal and there is never a shortage of tension and drama. It’s so interesting and unique to me. It makes it all very exciting.

I was so worried going into this book about how Harper and Royal coming back together would be handled. Maybe this makes me a sick freak, but I actually loved the way he betrayed her at the end of book 3. That was single handedly the most fucked up thing I’ve ever read in a dark romance. I’ve skimmed through some of the other reviews on here and it seems like most if not all of the one star reviews are people who couldn't handle how dark the series was.
So anyways, I was worried how their rekindling would be handled after this. I, much like most everyone I assume, am not a fan of heroines who are weak and let their bully hero walk all over them. So, I was very happy when in book 4, her recovery was kind of brutal after what he did to her. She is a complete shell of herself and might as well be dead. She tries to kill herself twice I think, and once Royal starts coming around again trying to get her back she’s like HELL NO are you crazy? You had me raped by your brothers and you tried to kill me. I can’t come back from that. I’ll never be the same. Whatever we had? You ruined it. He was trying for a long time to prove to her he loved her, without ever saying he loved her haha, and that he’s not a threat to her, but her protector.
So I’m glad it took a fair amount of time for her to get back with him, although it honestly could have taken way longer than it did, but I’m satisfied with how Selena handled it.

There were a few things that I was kinda meh about, but even still, I thought was handled well the more I read.

Like, I always thought Harper wasn’t angry enough at her abusers. I mean Jesus christ, Royal allowed his brothers to rape her while he watched and then they left her for dead, literally with the intention of her never being found and just dying strung up in the swamp. She’s fucked up over it for a long time, as I mentioned earlier, and I was very happy to see that she didn't just roll over when he tries to win her back. It takes time, thank god. However, I do strongly think that her anger and fear towards his brothers who violently raped her is not enough. That is unforgivable, as is what Royal did obviously. All this shit it. And Preston taking advantage of her when he was taking care of her was also horrible. She also never really shows much anger over this which is super strange to me. She has a few moments where she’s like wtf about it, but idk, it was a bit odd, especially since she comes to love Preston. But hey, I’m not mad about the fucked up nature of their relationship. It’s what Selena does best, and I’m here for it.

So my main irritation, which was actually a much more minor plot point than I was expecting it to be, was that her and Royal and his brothers all believe that she wronged him first. While she and Royal both agree that what he did to her was going way too far as a punishment and that there is no comparison, they all still believe that she wronged him by spying on him and sharing his secrets. I don’t think that she wronged him AT ALL. He gave up the right to feeling betrayed as soon as he decided to go after her right at the beginning of the series. She wanted to take them down because their family is horrible to her and to everyone in the town and they are obviously menaces. All the things they put her through? She had every right in my opinion to spy on him. She didn't owe him or his family shit. Because while she was spying on him and trying to take him down, he was doing literally the same thing to her, and this is never mentioned. So him trying to kill her wasn’t justified in any way, even with his twisted logic.

So basically, I was really not on board with the whole “Harper wronged Royal first” idea. It bothered me a little. But we do see Royal coming to understand why she did it. He gets an intimate look into how fucked up her home life is and he’s like oh… I get it now.

There is also this one part where she is wondering if Royal is capable of murder and I’m scratching my head, like, what? Did you forget what he did to you? The answer is YES. Yes, he is capable of murder. Obviously.

I also thought the secret society element was kind of pointless until I realized, I think that was the point. It was a distraction Baron was using for her. It was just a silly boys club. Nothing super serious. Just another small element in this vast story. The Dolces trampled the club and made it a joke as another form of revenge on the Darling family.

And also, Royal basically being a gigolo and protecting his younger brothers from becoming gigolos too didn’t seem that bad compared to everything else going on in the story. Also the fact that Royal is trying to protect Baron and Duke is kinda laughable, considering they are both total whores and are also violent rapists who are ok with murder. Baron specifically.

OH GOD, Baron… Boy do I have a lot to say about him. I loved his character and the development of his character was so unbelievably interesting. I think he had probably the best and longest storyline so far. That was a long con and fuck me but it was done so well. We learn at the very end of this book just how truly fucked up he is. He is way more psycho than anyone even realizes. I loved the reveal too. I hate big dramatic reveals. He didn't have one. It was a slow reveal of his psychotic deceptions. They figure out he’s Mr. D and when they confront him, he turns the tables on them and makes it seem like he was totally justified. Harper becomes more and more suspicious of him throughout this book and we see him doing weird stuff until the end when Harper is like hell no wtf there is something going on with him. And it turns out? He may or may not be an actual serial killer or something. I am beyond excited to see his and Duke’s series. Although I find it weird that they are apparently sharing Mabel? Weird. I hope they each have their own girl they are fixated on but, we’ll see I guess.

I also loved all the potential setups Selena has in this book. She has added several new characters and is expanding the world in a way that I find truly interesting. She doesn't do super obvious setups for romances either, besides Preston, and it's so interesting! Her world is rich and she can do anything she wants with it. I don't know who will be an important character later, but I think whoever becomes important will be a pleasant surprise. Like Olive. I’m wondering if she'll grow up and become a leading lady. If so? That is so fucking cool. We have just seen little glimpses of her throughout this series that didn’t seem important, but were very clearly there. Fuck. I’m getting pissed and over excited about how amazing of a writer Selena is.

But anyways, all that is what's so fun about the series. Harper and Royal’s relationship is one of the most fucked up ones I’ve ever read. I’m fascinated seeing how she is able to get back with him with all he’s done and everything happening in their town and his family and the Darlings.

I was happy to see that Harper decides that all this shit between the Darlings and the Dolces, specifically Royal’s dad, is what has made all of them so fucked up. So she is trying to help Royal heal in order to save the town. Because she loves him despite what he’s done and because she loves her town and is tired of this feud destroying people's lives. It’s actually kind of beautiful. He doesn't deserve her forgiveness or her help, but she is trying so hard to save him in order to save everyone else from his destruction and also because she can’t help that she loves him despite what he’s done to her. She’s not rolling over for him, she’s in a position to do something good and she takes it. She doesn't want to be like them. She’s over all the heartache and bloodshed and decides to be the bigger person. I felt like it was clear she wasn’t being a doormat, but rather being very mature and not succumbing to the destructive spiral that everyone else has.

So FUCK, having Crystal and Devlin come back was amazing and so perfect. They were “dead” for three years and the conclusion to this story was perfect I thought. It wasn’t unrealistic. We were being teased in such small doses throughout this entire series that when their return finally happened? It felt gooooood. And also the way they found them made sense too. I was afraid Harper was going to turn into a detective to find them, which wouldn’t have made sense if Baron or their families hadn't been able to find them all this time. But it turns out, Preston knew where they were this whole time. The whole Darling family knew they were alive, but just let them go to protect them from the Dolces and tried to make sure no one could find them. It was so beautiful finding this out in this book.

So anyways, they all killed Mr. Dolce because he was the root problem in all the violence. The Dolces left behind and the Darlings they were involved with basically made a truce for the sake of Crystal and Devlin’s children. It was kind of perfect. Them being “dead” for three years and then coming back really put the feud into perspective for the ones left behind and this time helped them all realize in some capacity that they were wrong. They all knew she was right to leave because they all would have killed Devlin. Now that she has three fucking kids with him they are all like oh shit. This isn’t a fucking joke.

I also really liked how there are a lot of elements to the story that go unanswered. To me it’s obviously intentional. I don't believe Selena has forgotten anything. We never get a full explanation of what happened to Royal when he was kidnapped way back in the Bully Me series. We just keep getting bits and pieces. We also never know what exactly happened with Mabel and the twins, although it's obvious we’ll find out once they have their own books. We can assume the guy Royal castrated at the beginning of the series is the Darling patriarch, but we don’t know that until this book. And it’s still kind of ambiguous because it sounds like he castrated more than one Darling. Also, whatever happened to Colt and his family is also just lightly touched on.

I also really like how Selena doesn't have any qualms having dark anti-heroes that are actually, truly, dark AF. A lot of people, authors and readers alike, have hard limits with anti-heroes and I feel like that is so stifling and limiting. If you’re going to have a dark hero, make him fucking dark. What’s more fucked up than a guy who rapes and murders? (I mean, for some reason it’s normal to romanticize a guy who is a killer but not a rapist. It’s weird. Murder is a hundred times worse than rape… I’ve never understood that.) So ya, she has no problems with it and I’m here for it. Royal and Baron and even Duke are some of the most fucked up characters I’ve ever seen. The only reason it's so interesting though is because their characters are very well developed. Selena doesn't just tell you they're fucked up, she shows you in excruciating detail. It's so interesting. Even though they are just absolutely fucked up and dare I say evil? I am just dying to know what’s next for them. So again I'll say it, I think the reason they are so interesting is simply because their characters are well developed.

Also, I think why Royal was so interesting was because you see his struggle from day one. You have been on this journey with him the whole time and have seen him turn into this very dark person and it’s fascinating. It wasn’t a short journey either. I mean, it took 8 books to get here. Honestly I’ll just stop now haha. I could go on forever about why I find Royal’s character so fascinating.

But the family feud aspect as well was similar to Royal’s storyline. We see the feud starting out petty and then just escalating and escalating until it turns violent and deadly and is out of control.

So ya, I was worried they would get a happy ending they didn’t work for, but they didn’t. It wasn’t like that. A happy ending is a stretch in my opinion, but they ended up together, heavily scarred in their own ways. There were no rainbows and sunshine. And it’s obvious everyone and the town has a lot of healing to do and I suspect there will be lots more drama happening with their families. The feud was too extreme. People died and many were maimed and lives destroyed. That isn’t exactly water under the bridge. I’m sooooooooo excited to see what else Selena has in store for this series in this town!

As an aspiring author myself, Selena is truly an inspiration for me. I would love nothing more than to pick her brain about her process and how she comes up with her stories. I want to create a series that gives me all the feels this one did.

I’m really excited to read this series again in the future after it’s been a few years and I can't really remember what happened. Hopefully it’ll be like reading it for the first time again. lol.

5 books, each one more infuriating, humiliating and a straight up insult to women everywhere. It is set in high school so ain’t no way they didn’t have young adults in mind. Can authors please stop romanticizing abuse and bullying as acting like them “fixing the Girl whom they broke is some heroic thing and it’s just dark and edgy? Cuz what do you mean he exposed a video of her sucking a teacher’s dick and then got angry when men started groping and hitting on her, “claims her”, fucks her and then tells her she’s a worthless When he finds out she was sent by an anonymous stranger to find out his and his family’s secrets and kidnaps her, hands her over to his brothers to rape and leave for dead and then he’s…sorry? But never admits just stalks her and gets her a car and And then they fuck and she remembers what an orgasm is and boom they’re …soul mates? This is very dangerous and fucked up especially for YA audience. I hate when you read a synopsis online and start a book and it has so much potential and just misses the mark.
There is a line and it was greatly crossed from the third book! Harper is made supposed to be tough but she is the most pathetic heroine in book history and royal is a monster and did not deserve redemption! I do not recommend!
