Dig Hole, Soft Mole

Rate this book
Enter the world of the Condylura cristata, the little-known star-nosed mole. The only mole that thrives in both earth and water, this animal lives in the wetlands of the American Midwest and southeast Canada. In this beautiful picture book, young readers get a mole’s-eye view of marsh life, following one star-nosed mole on an expedition through a dark tunnel deep underground and out into a sparkling pond. “This lyrical, read-aloud romance will endear Mole and his underworld to children.”-- Publishers Weekly

What a beautiful book! I enjoyed every page of Carolyn Lesser’s story about a star-nosed mole.

Laura Regan‘s illustrations take readers through the little mole’s journey digging and exploring a world filled with tunnels, ponds, and other creatures like cranes, turtles, cat tails and bull rushes. This book will resonate with nature lovers and the detailed illustrations will inspire young readers to explore the natural world further. A wonderful book to read at bedtime. The plot is very reflective and soothing.

Odd poem, but great pictures. It's a good non-anthropomorphic book. I now need to research if moles really swim like that.
