Nun Massacre

Rate this book
You've played the game, now read the book! The second novelization in Puppet Combo's VHS Terrors Series, Nun Massacre puts you right in the middle of a classic '80s Slasher!

Dawn and her friends have just graduated high school and are celebrating with one last party. But this is no ordinary shindig—Barbara has convinced everyone to make the trip to St. Cecelia’s Preparatory School, where decades earlier all the students and nuns were slaughtered. They have beer, a record player, and their whole lives ahead of them. It should have been the perfect night.

But what Dawn and her friends don’t know is that something still stalks the halls of St. Cecelia’s. Something that doesn’t like having visitors. Soon after they arrive, the bodies start piling up. As their last hurrah becomes a fight for survival, the teens are forced to reckon with the monster responsible for the original massacre—and the monsters they have become as the night wears on.

Who will make it out alive?

Regina Watts is an an absolute goddess of femdom fiction who loves writing torrid smut about the corruption of innocent girls and boys by wicked, more experienced young ladies and depraved older men--and if those dirty old men get what's coming to them at the hands of those same corrupted youths, even better. From kinky experimentation to twisted taboos, nothing is too extreme for Regina. Check her out on twitter @WritesWatts or follow Painted Blind Publishing's website for more information about her work, whether it's erotic fiction or transgressive literature.

*Author's Note: Pay no attention to my Goodreads genres I noticed they didn't include 'erotica' as a category and got a lil passive aggressive lmao

Okay, if you look at the books Regina Watts usually publishes, she wouldn't really be an author I would read. However, every now and then, I would see a short review she wrote for something she had read and, more often than not, she will say something that cracks me up.
I actually had the thought one day that she reminds me of my wife - it was something my wife would have said to crack me up in the good old days before parenthood made us so fucking respectable.

And that is a compliment, in case you are wondering. I love my wife very much and we are still together after all these years, despite her best efforts to break the chains, pick the locks, swim the crocodile-infested moat and make it through the haunted forest to the relative safety of the nearest Starbucks.

But let us talk about this book for a moment. VHS Terrors is very apt for this story, because it read very much like an 80's slasher.

Come on, talk a walk with me down memory lane:

I had a friend in school who was just as crazy about movies as I was. In the 'good' old days, there was a fuck-ton of content banned from my country. Said friend's dad went to the USA for something and brought back a bootleg VHS tape of THE EVIL DEAD.
Moving along - we had two female friends (purely platonic) who had a sleep-over one weekend and my friend and I were invited to visit and watch movies with them until midnight. Get your mind out of the gutter - her parents were both at home and their bedroom was two doors down from the living room, okay.
So, my friend had about half a dozen glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth they gave away with the promotion for FRIGHT NIGHT 2, so we took them along with the bootleg tape.
Long story short, when the movie was done and the one girl put in the next tape, we popped the teeth into our mouths and gave the girls a huge smile. Huge shrieks from both girls, massive laughter from us, and one pissed off dad who got woken up and decided we had overstayed our welcome.

That kind of nostalgia comes out when you read this story. It follows the formula we have all seen a thousand times, but Miss Watts knows how to make it fun, fun, fun!

Entertaining as all hell - 80's horror movie fans should love this.

This is my second slasher from Regina and it’s as immaculately crafted as the first. Gory and horrifying, Nun Massacre, is a classic of the genre and will be terrifying nuns for generations.

Novelized off Puppet Combos game by the same name, Regina Watts brings that low poly marvel alive in this newest release. The book followed the game closely with twists, a solid conclusion and ending. A perfect slasher novel with plenty of great gore and sweet kills. Loved it and cannot wait to see which title she tackles next! Highly recommended for the slasher lovers out there!

This was a very straightforward slasher with a mystery to solve.

Years ago in St. Cecelia’s Preparatory School someone brutally murdered both the nuns and the girls that were living there. However, one of the nuns and one of the girls went missing, never to be found again.

In 1978 we follow a group of friends that want to throw the ultimatum party and choose to do so, of course, in the abandoned School. The urban legend of the nun massacre is well known by all and the place is said to be haunted.

As they approach the School with their cars, the weather starts to get so bad to the point that a storm trapps them inside the building and they are unable to leave or ask for help. During the night the teenagers will be targeted and killed one by one by a mysterious killer.

I really enjoyed seeing different and inventive death scenes as well as trying to solve the mystery of who was attacking these teenagers and why.

Will be perfect for anyone that loves a good slasher.

Book 2 of the Puppet Combo books by Regina Watts, and Regina can write Slashers so well. I enjoyed Babysitter Bloodbath more, but I still enjoyed the 2nd book. I can't wait for a 3rd book.

A few errors in this one again but no so much. Still a great story! I really enjoy these books. Fun slasher with an odd end. A lot in so little pages. :) the ending is different then the any of the in-game ones so its not a complete retelling.
Thought the MC had a crush on her bestfriend there but wasn't talked about... so I'm probably reading into it more than I should.

I'm not a fan of video games but I am a fan of Regina Watts and this book! The title alone is fantastic and what's inside is just as good. This is a real slasher novel, complete with the traditional set-up and tropes that all of us slasher fans adore, and I feel that they are used with respect and to great effect here. I also found the atmosphere and the feel of the book to be similar to a 90s Point Horror novel for some reason. It's very sincere and filled with heart. If you're into slasher horror, definitely give this one a try!

”St. Cecilia’s was renowned for its ability to take even the most hardened juvenile delinquent and turn her into a good, God-fearing young lady…but then? One night, there was an incident. A massacre, all the students, teachers—everyone was killed.”

Another Regina Watts and Puppet Combo book under my belt🙂‍↕️ this book is based on The Puppet Combo game, ‘Nun Massacre’ which I personally feel like is the scariest puppet combo game ever lol that Nun and her screen are terrifying! And this book didn’t disappoint. It matched the eerie vibes of the game perfectly. The twist on the antagonist was 🤌🏼 the only thing I was confused at was the ending, I don’t want to say anything cuz I don’t want to spoil anything but I was like “wait?!”

This just isn’t holding my attention. The writing style is kind of clunky and it’s taking too long to pick up. Not really much creep factor either. I didn’t get far enough to feel comfortable rating it though. I’ll definitely give Watts’ other books a shot!

For those not in the know, puppet combo is a one man development team who specializes in lofi, deliberately bad looking slasher titles. And despite the fact that they would look dated on the ps1, they’re generally pretty goddamn scary. Murder house was tied with persona 5 royal for my 2020 GOTY. I quite enjoy their work, and I enjoyed the first entry in this novelization series, babysitter bloodbath, based off the game of the same name. Nun massacre delivers more of what made that book fun; trashy, gruesome violence and a super brisk pace that keeps the action going.

Nun massacre follows a group of teens who go up a mountain after graduation to party it up in an abandoned catholic school where, a few decades before, everyone in the building was slaughtered by an unknown assailant. And, unsurprisingly, things go very wrong when someone dressed as a nun begins slaughtering the teens without mercy.

Here’s the thing: this book isn’t original in the slightest, and falls back on some pretty generic slasher tropes. The fun of Watts’s writing is in just how earnest her and puppet combo are in delivering a throwback slasher experience. There’s no self referential meta humor, no point where someone winks at the camera by breaking the fourth wall. It’s unapologetically a Slasher story first and foremost, and the tight pacing and generous helping of bloodshed means it’s never boring.

Is it high art? Not by any means. Is it wildly unique? Nope. But it IS fun, and worth a look for slasher/ puppet combo fans. I’m looking forward to the next one. How about a novelization of Feed Me, Billy?

This is the second book in a series based on video games that were inspired by 70s-80s slasher movies on early horror games from the PS1 and PS2 era. Typical of grindhouse, nunspoitation and old slashers, the story begins with a secluded religious boarding school run by nuns, the head nun being a vicious meanie. When she takes one of the young girls, and her favorite doll Bongo the Clown, into her office for yet another round of discipline, it soon escalates into a massive slaughter of everyone in the school. Jump ahead many years to 1978, and a group of recent high school grads plan on having their last party together on top of the mountain in the old abandoned haunted school. On their way, a massive thunderstorm increases in intensity, but the youths carry on nonetheless. Once they start partying in the school they first run into a woman, Mrs. McDonnell, looking for her young daughter who may have gone wandering around the school. Not long after the kids begin dying in gruesome fashion, an unearthly nun-like figure chasing them and brutally ending them one by one. It's up to nerdy final girl Dawn to solve the mystery of hidden safe room and the killer nun before everyone dies.
I haven't played any of the games these books are based on, but the way the story plays out, it seems typical of this type of survival game. The way the teens are chased and attacked is what you'd expect from a slasher story. The truth behind the nun was pretty easy to figure out, but I don't think it was expected to be all that big a secret. As the book went on, it just wasn't as sharp as Babysitter Bloodbath, but it was still reasonably enjoyable.

Nun Massacre? I hardly knew her!

Bad pun I know, but it suits the 80’s cheese of b-rate slasher vibes which is where Nun Massacre fits right at home!

To start off, we are presented with the usual group of rambunctious teens wanting to party in a spooky place and what better than the former site of a mass murder at a preparatory school. A quick introduction of everyone, from the all American boy and his girl to the jock and nerd couple (I loved the swapped dynamic here with the girl being the sporty one in the duo this time!), and we are whisked into the derelict and eerie halls of St Cecilia.

Right away, the group of teens are spooked by a strange woman and the night only snowballs from there. Once the action starts, it does not let up! Every titular moment from the game is nicely implemented in the story; I especially like how each character lends to the gameplay mechanics of finding clues, solving puzzles, etc.

I did notice a few grammar mistakes, but that could just be print issues from the publisher; it doesn’t detract too much, it might just pull the reader out of the story for a moment.

Overall, another solid entry from Regina Watts working with PuppetCombo to produce a novelization based on one of their IPs. I enjoyed it a lot! And I really look forward to more; these are fun reads—like a little pocket of Halloween to enjoy from my bookshelf.

Beware of the Nun

Nun Massacre by Puppet Combo and Regina Watts is a fantastic novelization of the Nun Massacre game. It goes without saying this is a terrific read. The plot is good and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat from the first page all the way to the last. The plot in a nutshell is a group of friends go up to an abandoned predatory school and get killed off one by one. Now for the characters and the nun herself. I enjoyed all of the characters in this story. I also found the leading final girl Dawn to be quite fascinating. As for the villain of the story the nun was creepy and a great adaptation of the killer nun from the game. All in all I would recommend Nun Massacre by Puppet Combo and Regina Watts to anyone who likes horror stories or is a fan of the Puppet Combo games.

Although Regina Watts' novelization of Babysitter Bloodbath didn't sit well with me, I really enjoyed the Hell out of her take on Nun Massacre, another Puppet Combo produced indie horror game that I've played and loved. This feels like an accomplished slasher splatter book. It's creepy, tantalizing with dread, and has a superb writing style from the author that I felt wasn't applied to the previous Puppet Combo adaptation.

Also, another big win is the editing on this book. Now while I noticed a couple of grammatical errors here & there, I was happy it wasn't severely prominent. You can tell somebody took the time actually proofreading this thing. I love this book. My only complaint? The ending is kind of tacky.

On to Murder House!

This was a very decent YA slasher novel. It was short and the action starts in pretty quickly, which I love. It left me where I wasn't bored, like some horror can do when it takes 3/4 of the book for anything to happen. The only thing that was a little funny to me was when the author would describe one of the characters, she would say something like, "where the music student ran off." She described some of the characters this way a few times.. "The music student," "The basketball player," Etc..It just didn't flow right cause it actually made me stop one time and say, "Wait, who ran off? is there someone else?"

Good set up. I could imagine the characters running and hiding throughout the school. Very good read especially if you’ve played or watched a play through of the game!

This was a solid horror tale overall. As I believe I stated in my comments on Babysitter Bloodbath, I am not familiar with the source material. They do tend to play out fairly predictable, but that’s the adaptation.

I will say that for the most part, people splitting up in this book played out fairly realistic. Whether it’s movies or books, I really need to be sold well on why they’re doing that.

If you need a quick paced, shorter horror, Nun Massacre is that.

Another good 80s style horror slasher in book form by Puppet Combo and Regina Watts that felt like a big improvement in writing over the first one called Babysitter Bloodbath, although that too was good.
