One minute I had a cushy job as an assistant to one of Earth's intergalactic ambassadors. Now I'm stuck on Planet Xaxos with a seven-foot alien overlord.
I don't know what's bigger, his muscles, his retractable horns or...his ego. Rone Azulim is used to being in charge. He lords over a whole planet and fleet of soldiers.
My planet wants to form an alliance. He will only do so if I stay with him. As his mate. If Rone thinks I'm going to give up my independence to become his earthly arm candy, he's out of his mind. I don't care if his powerful voice and talented golden hands send thrills down my spine. It'll take more than his dominant ways to make me submit.
But we have more problems besides seeing whose will is strongest. Another alien species is planning an attack on Xaxos' capital. If they're not stopped, Earth will be next. Can I find a way to get out of this mission? Or will I trust Rone enough to want to stay with him...forever?
I enjoyed this book from start to finish, black girls in space gets me everytime. He was a sweetie pie with a good sense of humor and she was with the sh*ts most of the time even tho she really wanted that Alien🤣. It’s quick & insta lovey with some plot going on too.
DNF at 31%—I’m sorry to say I’m DNFing this because the writing is just coming across pretty elementary. I don’t need a smutty alien book to be ultra complex or anything, but the writing style just keeps pulling me out of the story.
This is very very short. There's no world building. The characters don't develop. The plot is simple: catch bad guy alien- and is resolved with barely a hiccup. I'm ot sure what the point of the series is if you don't bond with the characters. You don't learn anything about their worlds, cultures, or species. You don't learn about any of the battles, or anything about the bad race of aliens. What's the build? Where is it going?
Cammie, through a lie by a high ranking officer, trades her for Earth's safety. She protests, loudly. Not a single officer questions the orders. Then she proceeds to get sick from space travel and be out of it for almost a week. And we learn nothing during this week. We could have gotten Rone's POV with some information. But no. Then she wakes up and her whole personality goes a 180. Suddenly she's meek and mild. She goes to a party with him and poof, she's ready to be a wife. Only, there's no ceremony. There's no vows exchanged. No rings, hair clippings, matching colored clothes, nada. Nothing to indicate 2 people have done anything besides shared a steamy moment. He claims she's a mate but in no way does anything he does indicate she's a mate other than sharing a bed. She loses all ambition. She has no new career goals. She isn't looking for ways to merge into her new world. She's content to just tag along wherever he goes with no plans to do anything but follow him. Eh? So, as I stated, what's the point of this series? It can't even be for the steam. Because there was no romance. But it doesn't exactly qualify as erotica, either. It was just sort of...blah and over quickly.
I liked the idea of a strong Black female character. One who'd fight against her circumstances, plot her freedom - and the downfall of the general who basically sold her away. Nope. She let a stranger pet her hair. I've never known a Black woman to let some random, especially a guy, just ruffle their hair. And for the indignities to just pile up? * Sold to an alien * Unsolicited touch * Loss of independence * No proper hair and skin care items * Told to "stay put"? Oh heck no * Told her choices don't matter? * Told to make nice, then sent away with the "little women"? Ew.
For a supposedly advanced race, Rone didn't respect personal boundaries. He didn't show any consideration for her change in circumstances. He didn't even bother trying to explain about the serum to assist with languages, or the pills that would have helped with travel sickness. He didn't explain what mates meant to his people. He didn't explain how important she was to him. He didn't try to help her adjust. He didn't provide any methods of communication, didn't help her make friends, didn't provide her with a guide to help her adjust while he had to be away. I've seen people show more consideration and affection for new pets than he showed her.
Being a woman of color, you dont see "us" portrayed much in SciFi paranormal romances. I actually enjoyed this book because 1) she was deacribes inappropriate way you knew she was of color but 2) the focus was on who she was and not what she looked like.
The story was detailed enough that you knew who was talking and what was going on and everyone could related..eeqsinf want just intergalactic but simply culturally appeasing explaining earthly differences in a galactic way.
Probably more a 2.5 this one but it fell short for me in terms of the alieness of the story. Or better said, the lack. Cammie is an ambassador's assistant and Rone is the alien leader of another planet. He's on her space station to negotiate their assistance to Earth for an exchange. Rone decides on the spot after seeing Cammie that he'll exchange for nothing besides her because he realizes she's his mate. Cammie protests but the acting commander agrees and Rone drags her to his ship and off they go to his planet. From there, Cammie and Rone make something together and she eventually decides to stay.
It's a short read so there's not a lot to it but I thought it could be enhanced in different ways. However, my biggest gripe is the alien parts. I expect a different planet to have different rules and customs, different speech patterns, different dialogue, different ways to say things, jumbled sentence structure. Something outside of Rone's horns and some of the beings on the planet need to drink blood. Otherwise, there's really no distinction between Cammie and the aliens that's noticeable I thought. It's difficult I've always thought to do a good alien book because of language barriers, customs, etc. but this one doesn't even try. It would've been better to just write it as two humans on Earth. There weren't many explanations and I don't know what Cammie or Rone look like besides a few features here and there. For Rone to have never been with a human, the sex was very human-like. And for an ambassador's assistant, Cammie for sure didn't behave like I'd expect when it came to learning the alien customs. Their mutual attraction is sudden and everything gets solved easily with barely any tension which is dissatisfying as a reader.
I think the story could be cute but not how it's currently written.
A fun sci fi romance. The MFC does get abducted in that she is taken against her will but she's an assistant to the ambassador so it's a little different than a typical alien abduction.
I like it when MMCs have some self awareness,
“In that moment she seemed vulnerable. My natural instinct as a soldier to protect her rose to the surface. Then I checked myself. There was no one to protect her from. I was the one who took her away from the space station. Now I was going to take her away from her planet.”
He is the one who takes her without her consent. It's always interesting to see these big tough warrior guys struggle with having to get permission from the MFCs. They're so used to giving orders, I think a lot of them forget that choice is important.
I thought it interesting that it appears the whole human government didn't throw the MFC under the bus, only one guy. I'm curious to see if the author is going to try to show human patriarchy as anything other than misogynists and dismissive of women's rights in the rest of the series.
2.75 Stars. ( BW/ Bronze Alien). Kindle Unlimited Edition 105 page novella e-book. Forced proximity. Interplanetary travel. Insta-attraction. Low drama. The heroine, Cammie Walsh, is one of few Black women serving as an assistant to Earth’s intergalactic ambassador. The hero, Rone Azulim, is a warrior an Overlord of the planet Xoxas. Prior to an injury that had the Ambassador Leave his post, he and Cammie had been negotiating a protection agreement with the Plant Xaxos. Rone had come to finalize the agreement assuring Planet Xaxos’ defense of Earth against aggression. Immediately after being introduced to Cammie, Rone realizes that Cammie is his mate and insists that she returns to his Xaxos with him. Despite Cammie’s resistance, the Officer in Charge during the Ambassador’s absence insists that Cammie accompany Rone back to his planet. Once together on Zazos, Cammie and Rone fall in love and Cammie accepts that they are mates and meant to rule over Xaxos together.
I was hoping for a more feisty protagonist given the title, but it’s an exceedingly average SFR in every way. He’s seven feet tall and hung, she’s helpless to resist. It’s barely even a love story.
The FMC is a terrible diplomat for someone who is being mentored by an ambassador, and has almost nothing to say in her defense when the MMC decides to kidnap her for his mate, and absolutely no comebacks when his catty cousins start trashing earth to her face. It’s so disappointing. She gives up almost immediately on her plan to convince him to bring her back to her home planet, after making exactly zero convincing arguments about why she should be allowed to leave. After sleeping with him twice, her mentor comes to save her, but she is now fully on board with staying there forever. The MCs have nothing in common and no chemistry.
The premise of this books was interesting, however it failed to deliver. A beginning, middle and end. A strong male and female lead characters. A bad alien and a simple plot. The lead male alien got the usual horns - as seems to be the trend now and the lead female is African American. So far I've no issues with, but the chemistry between the leads fell flat.
So maybe I've read too many Sci-Fi romances and expect too much. Or just maybe I was coming off the high of reading 'Land of the Beautiful Dead' by R. Lee Smith and my expectations was unnecessarily high. You be the judge.
Cammie and Rone meet under strained circumstances but boy will intergalactic unrest can make species fall in love. Their banter is so funny but also helped build trust. I really appreciated Cammie's interest in learning Zol language and culture as she connected to Rone. The political intrigued in the background was also interesting (even space Earth is considered the ghetto 😂).
CW/N: galaxy exchange (human to d escalate an exchange), military attack, social anxiety, parental death, court marshall, planet genocide
I liked the characters. FMC was strong and sassy. MMC was playful and a good leader. Nothing happened between the two to escalate their relationship. It just happened. There was no real relationship development. Also, why were humans on Xaxon?
I wish the book was longer. Wasn’t enough to develop the story or world build. A few words weren’t used correctly. Felt like the title was misleading. Rone didn’t need to be tamed. If anything, Cammie did.
Hmmm..so I've had this series for awhile..languishing as I am want to do..😏 I was put off about Cammies' initial intro and trip to the Alien world with Rone. Tried putting myself in her shoes and I know I would have been angry appalled and wholly disgusted. But..since the union was fated as Rone surprisingly found...well all's fair I guess? I do like the unveiling of these new worlds and customs. Interesting take. I'm onto the next one...hope my initial reticence wanes.
This story was ok, a good read for passing by the time. It just needed more drama and excitement, in my opinion. It's a fast paced read that keeps you mostly intrigued, especially at the beginning, but the details in-between could've had more tension. The character development was pretty good, though. I love how the Black heroine is described and developed overall and the hero's reactions to her. Basically could've used a bit more "push" and drama to reach its maximum potential.
This was so darn cute and clean. Okay Cammie was understandably upset at first but once those pesky feelings kicked in like we all knew they would the story beautifully unfolded. We could have had little more excitement with the enemy but I’m not mad at all with the turn out.
I really love the cover of this book it caught my attention so much I had to read it. I'm so glad I did because, although, it's not hundreds of pages long it is filled with interesting multi-faceted characters and witty intense dialogue. Overall, it is a great story with no triggers and everything to make it worth reading.
I like when a story in the paranormal and sci-fi realm is well thought out and written. It had all the elements, from villains to rudeness and wrong assumptions because someone is different and a alien who recognizes his mate but the mate ain't feeling it yet. Also it has a satisfying conclusion to the story. A nice quick read.
Paranormal romance with African American character
I enjoy reading paranormal romance but its very race that any of the characters are of African descent. Camilla is a black women with beautiful curls and melanin skin. I enjoyed how genuine the author used Rone to describe the features he loved about Camilla.
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written. I loved the main characters and how they connected. It wasn’t all about sex. I loved the fact the author didn’t put a lot of details in the sex description. This story had a lot of action. I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to read more books from this author. I would highly recommend reading this book.
This was a good short read. I wish it was a little longer but then it wouldn't be a good short read lol. If you are thinking about reading PNR romance this is a good one to start with.
This was my first time actually reading a Sci-Fi book that actually sent it around a black person nay a woman of all things! This was a nice little short story and I enjoyed every bit of it. Can't wait to read more from this author.
This was good, short as everyone has eluded to ,but well written. Also a novella it was not rush this conclusion flowed nicely from the premise. I'll read the next one.
Rone wanted Cammie. Fantastic explosive storytelling with romantic loveable characters flow. Sammie is human being, Rome was from another planet. He wanted Cammie as his mate.
With the speed and strength of Superman, the clever mind of Batman the body of black atom and the color of golden sand I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK. Wish it were longer or had a part two.
I enjoyed this story. I wish it could have been a little longer. I liked Cam and Rone. I liked the sci-fi aspect of it. I will definitely read something else by this author.
This was my first book by this author. I loved her writing style and characters. The storyline was exciting and flowed. I'm definitely reading more in this series and checking out some of her other books.
When the two main characters met, one was captivated and demanded the female in exchange for protection. Not given a choice, she was not at all impressed. She felt betrayed and fights the growing attraction. She’s feisty and opinionated. Find out what happens.
Cassie, was too passive/ aggressive. She swore that she would not give into Roan's advances and find a way back to Earth, yet she did the opposite really fast. I gave this book 3 stars because there was just something missing.
I think it’s a wholesome story. I enjoyed it. Short and sweet! Cannot wasn’t sassy but she was challenging, Rone wasn’t uptight ms Dane gave him subtle sense of humor that works disarm all the panties!
This was a cute story. I didn't give it a 5 star because I didn't like Cammie very much. Her stubborn ways got on my nerves and I almost stopped reading. The book did get better and had a good HEA.
