The Dare is the third book in the Chicago Nights series by Natalie Wrye. Each book can be read as standalone but I do recommend reading the series since they are tied together by friendships and baseball.
Chris and Rosalyn have history. One encounter that neither of them had ever forgotten. They haven’t seen each other for years until one year ago and again now. At her mother’s wedding. She was surprised to him and even more surprised to find out that he was the best man to her Maid of Honor. Oh, and he is also Ros’s sister’s ex-boyfriend.
Rosalyn had two sides to her. One where she was the perfectionist who did everything for everyone. The other who wanted to be herself and take risks. Chris knew both sides and just wanted a chance with the girl who got away even if he had to be drastic about it. Ros didn’t want to rock the boat with her sister, Amber. The sister who mother loved and the world saw on social media as perfect. Ros wanted Chris like crazy. Always has and always will but she didn’t see how they could make it work. Not only was he Amber’s ex from college but he was a baseball player who would be on the road for half the season.
Chris wanted her. First, he needed to get her to talk to him. He could tell she was stressed out about the wedding, wanting to make it perfect so he makes a proposal. To help. He was the best man after all. Errands. Last minute preparations and bookings. Sure, he wanted his uncle to have an amazing day but he needed to show Rosalyn that they were worth it. That the risk of being together was worth it. The connection was there, he just needed her to admit it. To him. To herself.
These two. They are both lost. This story is over one crazy weekend with some twists. Natalie does love her twists. I enjoyed Chris and Rosalyn’s story. We got a glimpse in The Pact. We knew that they had a past but nothing more than that. They are fun, flirty, and a bit dirty.
Quotes:
“I know all this because I know you, Ros. I know how you move, how you walk, how you smile…” I gaze down at her mouth. “How you taste.”
“Were you always this cocky or did I block that from my memory?”
He glances down at the front of his pants, gazing conspicuously at the slight bulge there. “I think I’ve always been this cocky when it comes to you. I can’t lie.”
I roll my eyes. “You say the sweetest things.”
“I think lingerie lovers all over the world just burst into tears.”
“I guess there are just some things a man has to do for himself. And the lingerie makers of the world are going to have to get over it.”
