A deep-diving look into the book of the Acts of the Apostles as mission work, with Acts 1:8 as the propulsive theme verse. Of course! That’s what this book is all about—beginning with the apostles and moving on to Peter, Paul, Barnabas, and many others—but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard it stated so plainly and compellingly!
I appreciate that the author focuses on the first century Christians and missionaries and their trials—but he also brings it back around to today and how we do our missions today.
Wonderful, inspiring, encouraging! Great commentary/study (could easily be done as a group or solely). Thank you for my copy!
I enjoyed this, but would say the questions definitely skewed toward McKnight's particular interests and other published work moreso than arising out of Acts or for a general audience. But found the text helpful for a fresh, easy read.
Contains the full book of Acts broken into sections with commentary and discussion questions. I found some interesting food for thought and enjoyed the study.
I won this book in the Goodreads giveaway. It was an interesting book. I had to put it down to 1 star because some of the theology was more off than I thought. I never read or used a Bible study book while reading the Bible. Scot McKnight does give some interesting perspectives that I would have never thought of. So far this is a def, but I might finish it.
1-5-2024 I finally finished this book after giving it a second chance. I now give it a solid 2.5 rounded to 3. There was mostly only one part that was on his interperataion of an Acts 6:1-7. I did not see the correlation of the ethnic sensitivity that McKnight was talking about. God wants all people regardless of their race to follow Him. He even allowed the Gentiles to be saved. God was not being ethically sensitive by doing so. He did it because He loves us and we are His creation. McKnight did have some good insights on some of the other chapters which helped me understand them better. Read with caution and the spirit of discernment from God.
