I listened to Anxious for Nothing and found a lot in the book helpful for me and my anxiety. When I saw that there was a Young Readers version, I thought it would be helpful for my grandson. Before I begin this review, I want to add that it is more for late middle grades or even young adults, but it was not what I was hoping for my 8 YO grandson. Having said that, this is a great book for those Christian Youth who are looking for ways to deal with their anxiety. The book is dividing into four sections: Celebrate God's Goodness, Ask God for Help, Look on the Bright Side, and Think About Good Things. It is spiritually based and gives simple tips on seeking God's guidance and keeping thoughts positive as key elements in finding inner peace and contentment. Using simple stories/anecdotes, illustrations, charts, doodles etc. the book emphasizes, looking to Jesus first— not our fears! It is not trite, but uplifting with quotes and so much more. The end of each chapter has Brain and Heart Checks to invite personal prayer and reflection. I think this book with it's interaction would be a benefit to those Christians, young and old, looking for ways to deal with their anxiety in our bustling world today.

I have had the pleasure of reading several of Lucado’s books, over the years. In addition to the delightful Punchinello books, I’ve also read at least one of his adult books. When I saw the opportunity to review this book with JustReads, I was excited to receive a copy!

Anxious for Nothing: Young Readers Edition is an extremely encouraging, practical tool for children (and even adults) dealing with anxiety. This is definitely a book I could see myself rereading.

Punctuated with illustrations and relatable scenarios, the devotional emphasizes the importance of looking to Jesus first— not our fears!

Structure

The book consists of eleven chapters distributed between four sections. Because of the chapter format, the book can be enjoyed at the reader’s own pace.

Chapters include visual representations outlining key concepts, as well as some diagrams to personalize
Pull quotes emphasizes important ideas
Short fictional scenarios establish real-life connections
Brain and Heart Checks at the end of each chapter invite personal prayer and reflection
Personal Reflection

This devotional was such a blessing! Lucado uses some very familiar verses (Phil. 4:4-8) as the cornerstone of the CALM acronym. Through these verses, the Lucados really draw out the importance of focusing on good things, which happens through rejoicing, being grateful and thinking about what is good.

I think that this passage is usually studied in two separate chunks: verses 4-6 about being grateful when we make requests in prayer and verse 8, which is about what sort of things to meditate on. In the process, we are also skipping over verse 7, which is the promise of God’s peace!

For me, this book really built on what the Lord had been teaching me about gratitude, as He had been encouraging me to take time in my day to list what I’m thankful for.

This book is also such a powerful reminder to look to Jesus, not our fears!

I received a complimentary copy of the book. Opinions expressed are my own.

It seems anxiety runs rampant in today's society. People deal with fear and worry daily and have difficulty finding true peace. But God offers peace and joy, and Anxious for Nothing reveals how young people can seek Him when they are feeling lonely, anxious, or fearful.

Based on the Scriptural truths revealed in Philippians 4, this book is easy to read and understand. Its straightforward approach is clear, candid, and simple, yet incredibly inspiring and uplifting.

The book is organized into four sections: Celebrate God's Goodness, Ask God for Help, Look on the Bright Side, and Think About Good Things. It displays simple tips on seeking God's guidance and keeping thoughts positive as key elements in finding inner peace and contentment, without sounding cliche or tedious.

I love the thought-provoking questions, anecdotes, hand-drawn illustrations, and especially the interactive Brain & Heart Check sections. This is a wonderful, soothing guide for young readers and parents alike.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review was not influenced.

Anxiety is something that has weaved itself throughout my life since a child. God and his Word has been the source of strength and peace for me. I have also seen worry and anxiety in different degrees in each of my children’s lives. Thankfully, my husband and I have been able to walk beside them. When I saw this book, Anxious for Nothing (Young Readers Edition), I knew I had to get this. I have been able to look through this already, but plan to read this aloud with my kids and discus together as our next read-aloud. It is filled with quotes and illustrations on the sides, and questions at the end of chapters. ⁣

This 'Young Readers Edition' of Anxious for Nothing was written for middle-grade students, ages 8-12. In the Introduction the author extends a warm welcome to young readers by stating he is proud of them for seeking an answer to the question, "How do I deal with worry?" (Page xi)

He defines worry as 'letting tomorrow's problems ruin today.' (Page xi) What a simple definition for such a powerful emotion! The author moves on to share Bible verses that deal with worry and anxiety before encouraging readers to seek God's tools for dealing with worry and anxiety. (Page xii)

The book is broken down into four sections; each section contains two or three chapters covering topics such as celebrating God's goodness, asking God for help, staying positive, and thinking about good things.

Each chapter is filled with scripture references, Bible stories, anecdotes from real life, prayers, age-appropriate infographics and sidebars to help readers remember the lessons being taught, and acrostics to give readers a visual way to practice the teaching (i.e., C.A.L.M. in Chapter Eleven.) The back matter includes a touching Closing Note From Max Lucado, Sources, and Resources.

This author's writing tone is very age appropriate, warm, inviting, and encouraging. I found this book to be inspirational for adults, too. I highly recommend this volume to families, church schools, Sunday school teachers, youth group leaders, church libraries, and anyone who is looking for some inspiration in our chaotic and stressful world.

I received a paperback copy of this book from the publisher through JustRead Publicity. My thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

I didn't read the Young Readers Edition, but couldn't find the regular one here on GoodReads?

I did find this book enjoyable and insightful. I have been listening to some heavier hitters--CS Lewis' Miracles and now G.K. Chesterton's The Everlasting Man so this was a welcome, sweet filling.

Sometimes, we don't necessarily need the serious theology (Not that this is just sugar), but the reassurance that we can and should lay our problems at Jesus' feet and rest in his arms.

Thank you, Mr. Lucado, for encouragement.

This is a work of Christian Self-help. If that isn't your kind of thing, you probably won't enjoy it. Being a Christian with anxiety, I quite enjoyed this work. There are a lot of Bible verses that can be used again and again when facing times of anxiety and the language in the book is simple and easy to understand. It is written with teenagers in mind, so there are a couple of times where things might sound a little cringe as adults always seem to fall into when trying to relate to those younger than us. However it does it better than many of the books for teens that I've read. Take that as you will.

Overall I quite like this book and think that some of the suggestions it contains could be useful to teens who are struggling with constant anxiety and the fight to find proper uses for social media.

“In this young readers adaptation of Anxious For Nothing, Max Lucado uses honest stories, relatable Bible study, and practical helps to encourage tweens to receive God’s peace as they let go of anxiety, depression, and loneliness.” It is a message that proves especially important amidst the turmoil and choas of the past couple years. Page after page, Lucado’s content feels relevant and accessible to young readers. Not only is it rooted in biblical truths, but also it offers plenty of usable tips for combatting feelings of anxiety and loneliness. Anxious for Nothing makes for a valuable, uplifting read.⁣

A Beautiful adaption of Anxious for Nothing for Young Readers. I had previously read the adult version and was extremely interested in reading how Max Lucado transitioned it to a younger audience. It surpassed all my expectations. I loved how it really did focus on Philippians 4:6-7 it was wonderful.
I loved the simplicity of it, yet I liked how it asked challenging questions as well and the way it was broken down into different sections. Making it easy to find different topics.
I definitely recommend reading this book and or reading it with your kids as it opens doors that sometimes otherwise would remain unopened.

This was a relevant and much needed read for young readers today. I think it's important for parents to go through this with their kids as well so that they can have some tough conversations if needed, but I think this book is a great start to help kids who may be dealing with anxiety get a better understanding of it physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It made a lot of helpful points and gave solid tips in countering not only every day anxieties, but the types that may come with a more serious condition. I liked that the book made a distinction between anxiety and worry, but in one section it also used the two as more synonyms which I didn't like because it made that distinction more blurred and confusing. Another thing is that I'm torn as to what age range I would suggest this for. I think some of the examples were for an older age range than the reading level. Although for younger readers it might be helpful to see that older kids deal with it too so they don't feel so alone. I think it's important for parents to take an active role in reading this so they can help their kids as well, but I think this is a solid, helpful read that tackles a tough, yet relevant topic of today.

I have had the pleasure of reading many of Max Lucado's book, including the Adult version of Anxious for Nothing. He has now written, along with his Daughter Andrea Lucado, Anxious for Nothing (Young Readers Edition): Living Above Anxiety and Loneliness.

Anxiety in Children is at an all time, even before the recent events of our world. Children are stressed out due to over scheduling, academic and peer pressure, and so much more. Parents don't need to let their children suffer through this, they can direct their Children to the scriptures and to rely on God to help them through.

The book is divided into Four parts: Celebrate God’s Goodness, Ask God for Help, Look on the Bright Side, and Think about Good Things. The Book is uses the Biblical Principles of Philippians 4:4-8 to help the young tweens through anxiety issues. Each chapter has Biblical Scriptures and encouragement to guide the Children in learning to rely on God to help them. The author takes the Bibilcal Stories and gives them a modern twist, so the young tweens could easily comprehend the stories. The Heart and Brain Check section at the end of each Chapter gives the young tweens something to reflect on and to help get their emotions in check.

Max Lucado and his Daughter Andrea Lucado truly have an ENCOURAGING book and one that is much needed for the 8-12 yr old Young Tweens. The layout is done in a way that is easy for the age group to comprehend and learn from. The Tween group can conquer Anxiety by going to the Scriptures and relying on God to help them through the rough times. I HIGHLY recommend this book for any parent and young tween dealing with Anxiety. VERY INFORMATIVE and Encouraging Book!

This is officially my new favorite Max Lucado book. Written in his usual kind and loving fashion, Anxious for Nothing (Young Readers Edition): Living Above Anxiety and Loneliness takes a well-known passage of Scripture and breaks it down for kid and teen readers. Anxiety is at a higher rate now in young people, and Lucado offers activities and wisdom on ways kids can think differently and build new habits (both mental and physical) which will help overall health in wonderful ways. The Scripture passage is Philippians 4:4-8, and Lucado discusses: how to choose joy over worry; learning how to combat shame with God's mercy and forgiveness; asking God for help in what we need; developing thankfulness by practicing gratitude; and more.

This book doesn't claim to be a mental health tome. But it does have so many ideas for practicing thinking well, not letting emotions overtake us, and building good overall habits, all of which are drawn from Paul's words in Philippians. Lucado also shares heartwarming stories of real people who grew and overcame. This would be a great book for families to work through together, and for older kids to read on their own.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Filled with practical advice and Scriptural insight, this book is perfect for middle school and young teens. As an adult, I even gleaned some wisdom from its pages myself. Written with understanding that people have anxiety and that the only cure is dependence on God, this book was a wonderful, short read on how to face the challenges of everyday life. There are vignettes dealing with social media and bullying. Each chapter concludes with questions to help the reader to personalize and really apply what they are learning about how to deal with anxiety. The illustrations and analogies are perfect for appealing to kids who may skip over the text but will look more carefully at a graphic. This was a well-written and timely book on the topic of anxiety, something many young people are facing today especially coming out of the pandemic. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has a child or young teen who may be feeling worried, about school or friends or any number of problems that children these days face. In fact, I recommend that the parent read along with the child and learn new coping strategies just as I did.

Anxious for Nothing (Young Readers Edition) by Max Lucado is so needed in today’s world. The author approaches the readers with explanations of worry, tools to help them conquer it, and so much more.

Throughout the book, the tone of the writing is on the level with the age of the children and tweens this book is meant for. Lucado brings up specific aspects of worry while assuring his readers they are normal to feel like they do and then gives them a different way to approach concerns.

Scripture references, real-life examples, and Bible stories are combines with memorization devices to help your young man or woman remember how to combat fear and worry. You and your child/children can study the Young Readers Edition of this book is a pared down version of the one he wrote for those of us who have a little life experience.

ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING (Young Readers Edition) by Max Lucado

The cover is lovely and calming. This book aims for us to find peace as we turn to God in times of worry and anxiety. There are only four chapters so it’s a short read. The font size and spacing are all good. A great book to reflect upon.

This book addresses anxiety in a biblical perspective. Philippians 4:4-8 verses as well as other biblical references are discussed with examples that are practical in today’s times. Anxiety can be a heavy topic but I like how the authors wrote it in a language suitable for young readers. Simple and positive but direct words. We should lift all our anxieties to God. Be thankful. He loves us despite our imperfections.

I highly recommend this book to teens and adults alike. I look forward to reading it with my niece. 5 stars

I got this book so my 11 year old and I could read it together. Reading together helped my son open up to me about his feelings about school and the difference between worrying, thinking, and being anxious about things. I was surprised at some of his feelings and what he feels anxious about. This book prompted alot of questions and conversations with him about stress and anxiety and how he can use ways to calm his body and mind.
The book is divided up between 4 sections: Celebrate God's Goodness, Ask God for Help, Look on the Bright Side, and Think about Good things.
I loved all the practical ideas, graphics, scriptures and comments throughout this book. Easy to read for "young readers" like middle school level.
My son and I really enjoyed reading this together. I highly recommend!!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

This is a great tool for young children dealing with anxiety and fear. The author clearly defines the difference in terms that children aged 8-11 will understand. It teaches the reader where fear and anxiety comes from and how to go to God about it. Fun graphics help explain some points and break up the text so it’s easier for young readers to follow.

Sections include Celebrate God’s Goodness, Ask God for Help, Look on the Bright Side, Think about Good Things. Throughout every section, pages are peppered with Bible verses and biblical examples of historical figures who struggled with fear or anxiety. Stories are woven nicely with modern examples.

Quite a few side bars illustrate stories of kids dealing with whatever issue the chapter is covering. It then asks the reader to help these fictional characters to figure out what to do. It’s a great way to get the reader to learn how to apply what they are reading about.

Each chapter ends with a Heart and Brain check, questions to help the reader understand the text, but also to identify anything they need to work on to conquer their thoughts and emotions.

Overall, the text is engaging (even for an adult reader), examples are up to date, and written in language 8-11 year olds will understand. I’m glad to see a book targeted for this age group in our society where anxiety is a major issue for them.

I received an ecopy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Good things happen to people who believe? If you believe strongly enough in Christ there is nothing to be anxious about?
The antticdotal evidence in this book suggests that if you simply have faith your spouse won't die from ebola virus. But we know this simply isn't true. This books lacks the depth and nuance that young readers are searching for. It doesn't answer the question "how can I be strong when things go wrong" instead it offers trite advice like count your blessings and the worries will fade away. While a few of the exercise do have merit there is nothing new here. At best this book is underachieving, but I wonder if it could actually turn young people away from faith. The fact is bad things happen to all people and the question is can faith help me to overcome anxiety in the face of this truth.

It's not for my family or my questioning child.

Anxious for Nothing (Young Readers Edition) by Max Lucado is such a treasure. In this crazy world with so much chaos and fighting both of believers and unbelievers, kids today need to know more than ever that God is in control. This book is a beacon of hope to kids today. It shines bright with its message of God's presence and His promises. I highly recommend it for young people. I read it along with my ten year old son and he really got a lot from it. Great book! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Even helpful for adults if you want a condensed and easy to follow version, which is especially useful in emergencies when you don’t have the time or brain power to get through the adult version of the book. This book is aimed at teens, it has a lot of talk about social media which I didn’t find to be useful for a younger age range, as it’s my opinion that younger children should not use social media. Just the fact that social media makes this book necessary is enough to try to get your kids off of it. But I read the book for myself and it is a great quick guide for teens and up.

Simple y bien adaptado

This book approaches anxiety from a biblical perspective and at a level that older children and young teens can understand and relate to.

He has some fun anecdotes and Bible verses as well as practical advice and leading questions to cover multiple angles and hopefully resonate with the younger reader.

I would definitely recommend.
