From popular humor writer and social media sensation Anna Lind Thomas comes the second book of charming and uproarious essays that capture our universal need for life to just slow down—we weren't ready for this! Anna Lind Thomas wants everyone to just calm down and give her a minute, okay? She's not ready for this! In fact, through her latest collection of laugh-out-loud essays, she'll prove she's never been ready for anything in her life. Adult decisions, marriage, parenting, crow's feet, large pores, skinny jeans--you name it, she ain't ready for it! Don't even get her started on that one time she appeared on national TV in a blazer two sizes too small because she thought she'd lose twenty pounds before the shoot. Good grief, she just wasn't ready! I'm Not Ready for This will give you the encouragement you need Through her signature wit, charm, and painful relatability, Anna reminds us that no one's truly ready for anything--so we might as well go for it and see what happens. She bets it'll be real good--or at the very least, real funny.
I’m Not Ready for This is funny, relatable, and heartfelt. Reading Anna’s humorous takes on childhood (and adulthood, and parenting) awkwardness, familial relationships, and aging made me laugh out loud.
"I'm Not Ready For This" is Anna Lind Thomas' second book of humorous essays. To say "humorous" does not describe it accurately. This book is HILARIOUS! I laughed until I cried. But this book is more than a simple laugh fest. In "I'm Not Ready For This", Anna Lind Thomas shares some very tender thoughts and feelings which make each reader examine how we feel about ourselves, others, and our place in the world. She shares these stories to remind us that we are ok. We aren't alone. We all go through the same things. And with God's help, we all make it to the other side. I highly recommend "I'm Not Ready For This". I hope you will read it and share it with a friend.
I love pretty much everything about Anna's writing. Her essays leave me laughing, wiping away tears, and thinking to myself, "See? I'm not the only one who's a little awkward!" I can't wait to gift copies to my friends who love to laugh, and my favorite aunt.
Ok. Can I just say I want Anna to be my best friend? Clearly kindred spirits here. I got this book early as part of the launch team, and it was HILARIOUS. Real life, relatable content is so refreshing to read, and this definitely fits the bill. I first discovered Anna through the infamous viral fart story, and have loved her ever since. It’s nice to read about other women who maybe don’t have it all together all the time, and how that’s just fine. Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be great. There are so many fun and funny aspects to this book so I’ll just touch on my favorite one. The frenzy that happens in the house before someone comes over. Oh, LORD, that is my life. My mom was always like this too, going bonkers-it seemed-before holidays, birthday parties, and the like. We called it “Holiday Mom.” Sadly I lost my mom unexpectedly at a young age a year and a half ago, but reading about this made me laugh till I cried. It’s so fun to read something and go “Huh. Not just me/my family, then.” As women we often hold ourselves to impossible standards, so it shouldn’t be such a revelation to know that we aren’t the only one who is unprepared, who’s looking around for the adult in the room only to realize it’s you, to procrastinate and do crazy things. And yet, it all comes out just fine. Thank you so much, Anna and launch team. I enjoyed this book more than I even thought I would.
This was a short but entertaining collection of essays about work, motherhood and living through the pandemic. I didn't know much about this author before listening to her book but she was able to make me laugh a few times and talked about relatable things. On the whole though I didn't connect on a very deep level and this won't be one that sticks with me after I'm finished. Much thanks to Librofm for a complimentary ALC.
Anna's transparency into her insecurities and laughable situations just endear her more to the reader. She explores raw and real fears while poking fun at herself and her family. She is relatable and progressive in her personal growth and faith. My only disappointment is wanting more. I'm drawn to the depth of her sister's faith, and not placated by the brief mention of growth. I'm at a similar point in life and would love more focus on being real with herself. I loved her mom and any story that included her. She brought it all together and is the true humorist in each essay.
Every now and then you find a book that makes you laugh and smile and you want to tell everyone about it. “I’m Not Ready For This “by Anna Lind Thomas is that kind of book. She manages to take some of life’s most embarrassing and or memorable moments and turn them into delightful humorous renditions that will keep you laughing for hours. Anna’s stories are unique to her , yet they are familiar because every woman at one time or another has experienced something similar. Anna gives us permission to laugh about those moments.
Everyone needs Anna in their life! Her stories resonate with the reader- it's like coming home and being accepted and loved for who you are, beauty and flaws alike! No one is perfect. No family is perfect. But we're all perfectly imperfect, and that's what Anna celebrates.
Anna does it again! I couldn’t put this down and had it read within a few hours! This book made will make you burst out laughing, feel all the feels and is a definite re-read! Get it, read it, promise you will love it!!
Anna (her readers feel like old friends, so first names seem natural) continues to evolve as a writer. Her stories are simultaneously funny, poignant and helpful. I appreciate her mix of down-to-earth rawness and a desire to be a light in this world. I will always pre-order Anna's books and subscribe to her blogs. You should too.
Fabulously fun, like a well spoken friend relaying hilarious moments. I love her honesty, her humility, her putting-it-all-out-there in these personal anecdotes. Talk about being relatable! Very well written, very easy to read. It’s a solid follow up to her first book!
I'm Not Ready for This by Anna Lind Thomas made me feel that I was not ready for her book filled with multiple sentence fragments and other grammatical errors. Each time I encountered another one of her sentence fragments, I found myself distracted from her account and wanted to rip out my hair at her lack of professional writing skills.
In addition to Anna's numerous sentence fragments and occasional incorrect use of adverbs, I also did not find her story amusing or humorous. So she didn't receive her daughter's school newsletter. I didn't care. In addition, the author had little transition from chapter to chapter or connection in time. Thomas jumped from one account of a student covered in blood in underwear to filling her chapter with tidbits about her life as a college R.A. for nine pages before finishing her account about the bloodied student. The author also came across as a spoiled baby who, as an adult, still needed her mommy all the time. She even complained, among many other topics, as a child about no snacks or refreshments being served while watching a llama being born in the neighbor's barn. Although Thomas has the right idea in finding humor in her life, I simply did not find this fragment-ridden book, skipping from time to time, vastly entertaining.
I listened to this one as an Audiobook. It’s read by the author, Anna. While the audio format can at times be difficult to follow in humor/non fiction essay writing due to interweaving stories, I really enjoyed this format and hearing Anna’s voice and inflection when telling her personal stories. Also, she provides a handful of asides during the book which I LOVED. For some reason, one of my favorite things is when humorists or comedians laugh at their own jokes. It adds to the authenticity and you feel you get to share in the exoerience and joy alongside them. Getting the additional context was interesting, too.
As others have said, this book is funny, relatable and heartfelt. For me it felt like a theme was not only how we’re never ready for anything but also how common it is of us to compare ourselves to others and how our personal perspectives and sense of self (and self importance) influence so much of how we experience the world. At least that’s what it made me reflect on.
Anna is a gifted writer with a real knack for the details - even otherwise mundane gexperiences are described poignantly through Anna. Her stories are touching and funny. Recommend!
Anna makes me literally laugh out loud! She finds the funny in every situation. Anna is a gifted storyteller that paints a picture so clear you feel like you’re there with her.
As someone that can trip over air, I totally related to stories of her Father’s antics & laughed so hard I cried. The hairdresser saga? Been there. Not recognizing ourselves in a photo, video or mirror? Yep, me too & it’s shocking. I can honestly visualize Jenny in her closet rebuking (oops, no spoiler here). I could go on & on. She lets us in on her innermost, highly imaginative thoughts. Thoughts we often share which is why they’re so relatable. And funny!
Oh heavens! Anna has done it again! I smiled, giggled and laughed so hard through it all. She skillfully uses her life experiences to give glimpses into how she became the woman she is. She has worked hard and is able to laugh at situations from childhood that a lot of us would cringe and not want to share. Her openness and ability to laugh has helped me through many situations. This woman shows her faith through it all. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Especially if you need something to put a smile on your face during this crazy time of life.
Anna Lind Thomas has a natural gift for story telling.
It truly feels like she is telling you these stories over a cup of coffee in a cafe. Her wit will win you over the whole read. You can feel her emotion. You want her Mama to be your Mama.
The chapter that resonated with me most was Little Red Bird. The combined subjects of the story left an indelible mark on my heart.
A relatively quick read, this book would make a great gift for your family and friends.
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I laughed out loud too many times to count. A fun listen and so enjoyable to be part of each of Anna’s off-script asides. This book has so much heart and depth, and yet a relatable fun factor is interwoven throughout that makes this unmatched in its genre. Anna is kind and genuine and only pokes fun at herself. You can hear her giggle as she reads to you. It was a joy!
This book will bring back memories from your childhood that you forgot about! At the same time making you feel seen as an adult. What?! Other moms don't know what the heck they're doing either? Anna hits the nail on the head with this one. You'll be reaching for extra copies to hand out by the end of chapter two.
This book should come with a warning - empty bladder and a box of tissues needed! Readers of a certain age will have leakage from laughing so hard. Their eyes will water from the emotional stories that read like a chapter from their own life stories. And by the way, the same is true for ALL readers! Can’t wait to see what “adventures” are up next for this hilarious writer and comic!
Oh I needed this!!! In a season of my life where I am firmly entrenched in the chaos of motherhood, working at home, turning 40 😱, I needed a break from my normal routine to laugh, cry, and feel like I’m not alone. All of that was accomplished in one book! If you feel like you need to find “your people” with whom you can be yourself in front of…..go read this! Anna is your person!
Such a funny collection of essays, it left me wanting more so I ended up downloading another one of her books! We learn about Anna and her parenting, marriage, childhood, clingy relationship to her mother and so much more. I loved how she owns her faults, quirks and makes light of it. She is naturally hilarious and look forward to more from her.
This is the second book Ann Lind Thomas has written about her life and things that stick of from her life. I wasn't a fan. Thats being sad I will continue to read her social media posts for the humor she posts on those.
**************I received an ARC for my honest opinion from NetGalley.********************
I'm just so proud of Anna. Is it weird to be proud of someone you've never met? She may not be "ready for this," but she crushed it anyways. I laughed. I cried. And that was just a few chapters in! It's funny, poignant, nostalgic. It's a the perfect pool-side read, book in one hand, garden hose in the other so I can spray my kids when they get too close.
When I tell you I'm Not Ready for This had me laughing, I am not kidding. Anna Lind Thomas is that friend that goes through things and has things happen to them and you're like, no way this happened, and in reality, it has, that is her. It was so funny to see her and the relationships with her family and friends, she's a trooper and it's just a very feel-good book to read. The snowsuit incident had me in tears from laughing so much, the ankle, and poor ankles are the real champs of this book, pick up I'm Not Ready for This and find out why!
My goodness! I love Anna's honesty and humor. It was non-stop laughs with every story that she shared. She's so descriptive with all of the details so you feel like you are right there with her in all of her charming, awkward (Tammy!) glory! This book was so much fun to read!
As always, Anna managed to strike a truly satisfying balance between humor, heart, and wit. I don't know that I've ever felt so seen. The raw honesty resonates in a way that makes you feel like you just got off the phone with a friend.
I love how Anna weaves her stories together. It’s like you’re just having a conversation with a friend. Her laughing at herself encourages me to do the same but she also encourages me to find the lesson in these everyday life events.
Anna gives us a collection of essays in which she talks about not being ready for anything in her life. From making adult decisions, marriage, parenting, and everything else in her life. She shows us that life can be humorous, we just need to see the humor.
The story about taking the clothes to consign had me cry-laughing so hard! The story on respecting our bodies had my eyes welling with tears. I’m happy I bought this book and happy Anna has pursued her passion for writing!
