Thank you, Thomas Nelson, for the advance reading copy.
Kudos to the team for the specific activities for specific seasons charted out so systematically in the book!
The options are many and yet so practical and accessible for the kids and the adults who would assist them. The pages and the book from cover to cover is so colourful and cheerful inside out.
The book provides recipes, activity sections, related real pictures, colourful illustrations, specific steps on how to dos for each activity. I find this book so inspirational and would help families and schools to keep the kids engaged in outdoor fun activities as well as with indoor ones which would help them cut down on watching screen.
The organization was neat and tidy. The book was easy to read and understand. Where it fell short for me was several of these ideas were pretty basic. I was looking for 100 new or unique ideas. The word adventure in the title led me to believe that these ideas would be bold.
I think it would be a good resource for a summer camp instructor to have on hand.
*******Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review***********
In today's society, it's very easy for children to depend on cable television, social media, and YouTube for their entertainment. This doesn't have to be! Author Greta Eskridge has joined with illustrator Emily Paik to create a book that deserves to be used again and again. There are 100 ideas in 100 Days of Adventure, and these suggestions are for projects that can be done during one of the four seasons. Some are simple and need no advance planning, and others will take some work, but all of them are guaranteed F-U-N. Some projects are costly but most of them are for families on a budget, such as hiking, rock collecting, a nature scavenger hunt, and painting snow with food coloring. Doing them as a family will create priceless memories, and best of all, children will be learning while they're having fun!
My eight-year-old granddaughter begins her summer vacation in a few weeks so I'm thrilled that this book is available. The illustrations are perfect, the directions are easy to understand, and there are projects for every age group, including adults! Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of 100 Days of Adventure. It will be some of the best money you've ever spent because this book is an absolute treasure trove of fun and educational projects!
I received a copy of this book from FrontGate Media. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
Every season means a new chance for activities in this packed, colorful read.
This book holds one hundred activities, which have been broken down into four seasons. There is also a table of contents at the beginning, making easier to locate certain ones. The entire thing starts with a note to the parents and a big, full-cover photo of the author and her family, which sets the tone very well. This family doesn't sit at home, but travels into the great outdoors, visits various sites, explores nature and relishes in camping, hiking and such. The book does follow this flow.
The illustrations are inviting and make each activity fun to discover. There are accompanying photos in many to help the reader actually see different sites, understand the directions, or simply get into the atmosphere of the activity. The activity is numbered at the top and given a title. Then, there's a short personal explanation from the author, introducing the activity as well as bringing in tidbits from her own experiences. The activity is then laid out in detail with steps to follow, items to gather, or even extra hints. These are all well written, easy to understand, and no problem to follow for the intended age group.
Many of the activities are simple to do and don't require many items or anything difficult. Others, however, encourage activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, or exploring National Parks/sites. So, not all of these are for everyone, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend this one for less travel friendly families. But even then, there are enough suggestions which work for others as well. If nothing else, it does inspire and radiate the love for nature and being outdoors.
It's also clear that this comes from a homeschooling family, since there several ideas which flow in that direction: journals, poetry, and such. So, this does work well for anyone intending to use it as inspiration in that direction. It also holds ideas for camps or group activities. This book is fun to pick up, flip through, and find something to do any time of year, and does hold a wide variety of ideas. I received an ARC and thought this was well done with the intended audience in mind.
We came home from book club and found a special package on our porch with a fresh new book in it that hasn’t even been released yet! #100daysofadventurebook is amazing, beautifully illustrated, and filled with so many opportunities to build connection, community, and memories! We received this copy free in exchange for our honest review, and we honesty give it 5 stars!! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #gretaeskridge #tommynelsonbooks #100daysofadventurebook #childrensbooks2022 #preorder #100dayslaunchteam #sponsored #homeschoolersupportinghomeschoolers
Not bad but a bit disappointing. Seasonally focused lists of what, to us at least, would be rather typical ideas and more everyday adventures: collect fall nature bits, start seedlings, hike in the rain, make popsicles. I guess once you’ve read one of these, no need to read others. A super fast read, and I did add a couple other possible adventures to our adventure menu. I was hoping for a little more of Greta’s personal zest and flair. A good library borrow, not something I will reread or want to own.
As a sequel to Greta’s first book, this book is the practical how-to execute adventures with your kids. The book can be used as a quick reference guide or as an entire year of ideas to inspire exploring nature throughout all four seasons. I appreciated how she walks beginners through how to take a hike or and what to pack in the backpack. The book is also inviting for kids to use on their own to plan their own adventures. For reference, my kids are age 7-12.
This book has been so fun for our family to use! As homeschoolers and full-time work-at-home parents, sometimes we get stuck in the bubble of home. This book has helped encourage us to take some simple adventures with our kids and get creative while being outdoors. And now our kids are grabbing the book, telling us what they want our next adventure to be.
Excellent variety of activities to do with children of varying ages. It is sectioned into seasons, but they can be done whenever you choose. I love that it has outdoor/indoor activities, crafts and trips. Great ideas to help spark imaginations and adventures! I love that I received the book for free in exchange for an honest review too!
I bought this book to get ideas for things to do with my kids and my home school group. There wasn’t anything that stuck out to me. It seemed pretty basic. (Take a hike, make s’mores, paint rocks, make popsicles, write with chalk, make a gingerbread house, start seeds, pick apples…). These are all things we already do. I expected some new ideas that were full of adventure.
I was a bit disappointed because I had high hopes for this book. But I love Greta’s blog and Instagram posts. So I’ll count this as a donation to her for all the other parenting ideas I’ve gained from her.
100 Days of Adventure: Nature Activities, Creative Projects, and Field Trips for Every Season is a well illustrated fun book by Greta Eskridge absolutely full of good ideas for fun family friendly activities to get people into the outdoors and having fun together. Due out 3rd May from Thomas Nelson, it's 208 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
The illustrations by Emily Paik are clear and colorful and full of detail. The suggested activities are grouped thematically by season: Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. They include physical activities like hikes, volunteering, nature cleanup, as well as more cerebral observational activities like star-watching, poet practice, and indoor cooking and reading. The activities are varied and fun and there's literally something for everyone.
The activities are also full of checklists for measuring and recording progress. Although it's not specifically stated, there -are- lots of inclusive activities which are perfectly do-able by disabled readers. Although the book is aimed at the middle grades, there are good tips scattered throughout for caregivers and facilitators.
It's a fun and worthwhile book with something for everyone.
Five stars. This would be a good selection for public or school library acquisition, activity/scouting groups and home use.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This book is full of great ideas for a wide age range of kids. I have a 3 year old and a 10 year old and most of the activities we will be able to do all together. That is a huge win for me! The design of the book is colorful and engaging and so full of inspiration and encouragement. It isn't just a book of ideas, it also highlights the reasons we adventure with our kids. How simply taking time to be present together and create, learn, and explore deepen our relationships and build lasting connection and memories. The book is divided into seasons with a checklist of all the activities for each season at the beginning of each section. My son has already marked a number of pages he wants to do. We made the stick mobile together and didn't have to buy anything! Both my kids had a great time and surprised me with their ability and creativity. Some of the ideas are simple(which can be a great thing!) and variations of them can be found elsewhere but there is something special about having a book with a compilation of tried and true activities to spark inspiration! I'd rather sit down next to my kids and open a bright and engaging book full of invitations to adventure rather than endlessly scrolling blogs or Pinterest for ideas that may or may not end up delivering on their promises. This is a book for every season but summer is a perfect time to dive into this book. Also would be a great gift! I have it in mind for a few friends. We received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
Wouldn't it be awesome if a mom friend who loves fun and adventure would put together a list of her most favorite, doable outings and activities from the last several years and share them with you?
I'm pleased to tell you that Greta Eskridge has done just that. I am a person who loves hiking and the outdoors, but does not specialize in what my kids would call "fun" or "adventure." So I am excited to dive into this visually appealing and user-friendly book myself for ideas and hope that a little Greta rubs off on me. I'm also thinking I will let each of my kids choose an activity from the book that they would like to do this summer. Actually, I plan to have them each select three activities, and then I'll pick which one I actually want to do. Because there are going to be some activities in the book that are beyond me at this point, I'm guessing. And that is O.K.! It's about progress, not perfection. I'm looking at this book as a menu of ideas, not a to-do list. And I'm excited to see what Greta has in store for us.
We already made the stick mobile (activity 54). Simple, fun, creative, outdoors. A big hit with my 10yo nature/ art lover. Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I truly believe this book is a must have for parents or anyone who is a child caretaker. Here are my top reasons why:
First: The book is both inviting and beautiful. The layout is by season with a checklist for each season. The pictures and illustrations really bring each adventure to life. I love the personal style of writing by Greta, it is like she is talking to me.
Second: More brain space and less decision fatigue! I don’t know about you but some days I just don’t want to think of ideas for what to do with my kids. But Greta has our backs! Sure, I could look ideas up myself online, but now I do not have too. They are all in a fun book for my family to look through and plan from together. And many of the activities I NEVER would have thought of on my own.
Third: Long lasting and world expanding. What I mean by long lasting is that this book will last us many years. The adventures will span the years and can be done more then once at different ages and capabilities. The activities in this book will expand both me and my children’s outlook of the world around us.
If you like to learn and have fun with kids, then this book is for you.
I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
We are LOVING the activities that are in 100 Days of Adventure. I would highly recommend this book to any family that loves getting out in nature, out on the town, or just loves to do things besides sit on the couch. We have started on the adventures and have completed four so far (a historical adventure, going out of town on a whim, making a nature mobile, and creating a book nook).
The format of the book is fantastic with the adventures broken into season. There is even a place to put a check mark next to adventures that have been completed. Now, who doesn't love a list to check off?!? Am I right? This book is a wonderful starting point for enjoying life with family (both young and old)!
I received a copy of this book free in exchange for an honest review, and I have to say that I was so pleasantly pleased that I decided to give one away to a friend as well! I hope that you join the adventuring after you purchase this book! Trust me, you will not regret it!!!
This book has so many fun ideas in it for kids and families to do together. I love the step-by-step directions given to explain the activities as well as the list of any needed supplies. There is a wide range of ideas in this book and they are divided into sections by season. I also like that it has some photographs as well as some drawings for the illustrations. Another thing I like is that at the start of each section there is a page that lists all the ideas for that section with a place to check off the ones you have done.
There is a wide range of activities with something that will appeal to everyone and probably help little ones learn something and try new things. The book is appropriate for young elementary children aged 6-10. I received a copy of this book from Frontgate Media for my honest review. Thank you.
Greta has done it again! Not only is it packed full of great adventures to try and fun stories of her own family adventures, but it is so beautifully illustrated with bright, fun colors. Greta's excitement for adventure is contagious. Adventure is for everyone all year long.
My 10 year old daughter LOVED it! She's read it over and over. Here's what she had to say. "It has so many fun activities! Some of my favorite activities are Book Nook, Backpacking for Beginners, Have Some More S'mores, Shells Rock. I love the story of her seashell club where her friends would collect and trade shells. I liked that it has stories about Greta's family adventures. I liked the story she shared about jumping into the water holding her nose and screaming while everyone laughed. That's just like what my mom would do!"
This book pairs beautifully with Greta’s book “Adventuring Together”! She is passionate about encouraging families to explore together, try new things, and create deeper connections through shared experiences. • I loved reading this book, because, to be honest, exploring and adventuring with my kids is not something that comes naturally to me. But Greta is so great at coming up with ideas that are easy to do at home, or indoor activities for inclement weather, or just simplifying ideas to make it less overwhelming. • I felt encouraged and inspired when reading this book, and I know our family will have so much fun using these ideas! • I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for the book. This review is entirely my own.
I enjoyed Greta’s first book and was looking forward to reading her newest book aimed at adventuring with children. My 6 year old son was especially excited when the book showed up at our door and couldn’t wait to look through it.
I love how the book is laid out, and the illustrations and checklists are perfect for kids! As a parent I love that I can pull this book out and easily come up with a fun activity for us to do together as a family.
We are looking forward to using it for years to come together as a family!
We love this book! Each page is fun and eye catching. My kids have already stolen it from me to pick out things to do! I love that the adventures are organized by season with a fun bucket list to check off for each season. Do you need this book? no. You could spend many hours searching online for ideas, figuring out what you need, and then trying to remember all the parts. Or you flip open this book to the appropriate season and start in on something fun with your family! Greta packs in all sorts of tips and tricks. Did I mention the fabulous, inviting pictures by Emily Paik!? The whole thing is so good!
My entire family loves this book. We've had it for a couple of weeks and my kids are constantly pulling it out to find and complete activities. The book is divided into four seasons with both indoor and outdoor activities. There is everything from nature, to arts and crafts, to skills, to cooking, to field trips and so much more! This book is perfect for a family with kids in all age ranges. My 6 and 9 year old are particularly interested in it right now. This would make a great beginning of gift for birthdays, Christmas, or beginning of summer celebration! (I was gifted a copy of "100 Days of Adventure" in exchange for my honest review).
Connection with our kids is hard to come by these days, it seems. And we do have time to connect, we can resort to the same old, same old. No longer! 100 Days of Adventure will give you 100 new, fresh ideas for engaging with your kids and making memories. They won't remember which math curriculum you used, but they will remember the adventures you went on together. My kids are 6 and 4, and we've had such a blast picking activities and making them happen. Most of the STEAM based activities are low prep and will get you engaging with the natural world and one another. This book deserves a place on every family's shelf!
Fabulous book filled with fun ideas for kids (and parents)! It will get them off their electronic devices and make them aware of the world around them! I learned a few things - who knew about the owl droppings?! And I'm adapting the clouds page for my students to do during summer school! The only thing I would add is to visit a graveyard. There's so much to learn from a cemetery (e.g., find the first person buried here, the one who was the oldest when they died, find someone with your name, find someone who was your age when they died, take a soft brush and some water and wash a family member's headstone). Anyhow, great book. Much needed in this day and age.
Congratulations to Greta for writing book for all generations!
The activities included in 100 Days of Adventure are for everyone, I cant wait to see the generational bonding that comes from these. Plus, the activities are broken into seasons! My girls page through the book daily and want to plan all our activities for the year.
We were gifted this book from Tommy Nelson Publishing. We have done a few activities already and the directions are easy to follow and modify to what you already have at home. Happy Adventuring!!
This book is chock full (100 to be exact) of ideas for activities to do with kids. There is a great mix of outdoor and indoor projects and many require little to no prep work. They are arranged by seasons, which makes it easy to find activities that are appropriate for the current time of year. Activities range from homemade stilts, knot tying, looking for tadpoles, and growing a garden in a jar. Great way to break out of the screen rut that I'm sure many of use are in. I received a free copy of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
I truly believe that with some creativity, children of every age can participate in 100 Days of Adventure by Greta Eskridge. I personally love that the activities are broken up into seasons, that the graphics and artwork are vibrant, yet simple, and that my son can grow with this book. I plan on modifying each adventure to suit our family needs. Greta’s book is an amazing guide to encourage all sorts of indoor and outdoor adventures. Say yes to adventure with 100 Days of Adventure!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
We love our new book ‘100 Days of Adventures” by @maandpamodern! The first adventure we picked to do from the book was to make a nature mobile!
“If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.” LAURA INGALLS WILDER
We can’t wait to explore this book more this summer! If you are looking for fun activities, we highly recommend this book. It will definitely help your children get outside, step into an adventure, and get closer to each other!
I received a copy of this book from FrontGate. The review is my own opinion.
This book is full of wonderful suggestions for fun activities. They are really perfect for our family as many of them are some of our favorite things to do. If you are looking for suggestions for something to do over a long weekend, a summer vacation, a road trip… Every one has pictures and illustrations and easy instructions. Some require more planning ang gear. But you have so many options to chose from and for different weather.
I received a free copy from the publisher and @tlcbooktours in exchange for the feature and honest review. All thoughts are my own.
I received this book as a giveaway. I have taught botany/horticulture/nature studies for over 30 years. That being said, this is a fabulous book filled with a variety of activities. It was well-organized, by season and very well edited. The projects were creative and described very well. I can see where this would be very useful for a family, homeschool, or starting teacher. I feel that nationwide there is a big disconnect for many children from nature- this book would be a great way to fix that disconnect. I recommend this book.
