She thought she left her past behind, but fate has a funny way of coming full circle.
RAVEN I should have known it was too good to be true. My whole life, nothing good ever lasts. Nothing stays the same. Now, my past, which should be far behind me, is catching up with me, and in ways I never expected. Come to find out, I have a thirteen-year-old brother I never knew about, and he’s now my responsibility. What do I know about kids? Nothing really, but I’m going to do my best. That is until CPS shows up. Now, I have them breathing down my neck, memories I’ve tried to bury come back full force, and a bossy billionaire trying to help us out. Sloan Lincoln might be hot, bossy, and thinking he’ll ride in on his white horse and save the day, but he doesn’t know everything. Because if he finds out my secrets, he’ll never look at me the same.
SLOAN Some call me bossy and overprotective. Me? I call myself smart and resourceful. So when my sister comes to me and asks if I can help Raven out, of course I jump at the chance. Though, I don’t think she meant me pretending to be Raven’s new boyfriend to try and get CPS off her back. But see, I’m a good guy and that’s what I do. Does it help that she's hot and pushes all my buttons? Oh yeah. Of course, things with Raven are never easy. Especially when secrets of her past come to light. She’s going to try and push me away, but I’m not about to let it happen. She needs someone in her corner, and like it or not, that someone is going to be me.
**TRIGGER WARNING** Echoes and Ink is a darker romance compared to the other books in the series. It contains strong language, graphic sexual content, mentions of past abuse, both sexual and physical as a minor, and the death of an infant. Please do not read if these may be triggers for you.
I live in New Brunswick, Canada with my husband and our two dogs, Remi and Sako (pronounced Say-co). When I’m not writing, I’m playing fetch with the dogs, talking to my parents for endless amounts of hours, annoying the crap out of my husband, or just enjoying life with my friends. Writing has been a part of my life since I was about 12. I started out just writing short stories or silly knock-offs of my favorite shows or movies. Soon, though, I realized just how much I loved to write. How often my mind would wander and think of characters and where they could go. They became real to me, and I would start to write. I used to fill up notebooks and pads of paper when I got an idea. It would be an obsession, almost, to get on paper. Then, when I was old enough to have a computer, I started there. Now, I’m 28 years old and I finally hit that button. The one that I’ve thought about it over and over again for the past 16 years. There is no greater joy, or fear, at realizing you’ve just accomplished something that you’ve wanted to do for so very long. That is my greatest accomplishment and I look forward to hitting that button on many more.
I've read every book that Emily has written, and I can safely say this is her best book to date.
Raven is an absolute badass with such a big heart. From the moment you meet her in the first book you can tell she has this wall around her and doesn't let her guard down for many people. So much is thrown at Raven in this book, and obviously I'm not going to say much as spoilers, but finding out everything that happened to her growing up broke my heart. Sloan, is just such a great man for her. He gives her sass back, winds her up to no end and above all else, he is there for her when so many people throughout her life haven't been.
I couldn't read this book quick enough! I needed answers to my questions, I needed to see Sloan and Ravens relationship grow and finally I needed to see justice for everything Raven went through. This definitely gave me so many feelings, but I couldn't be happier with the ending and the outcome.
Such an amazing series from Emily, and I can't wait to see what she does next!
Raven has shadows behind her eyes, her past is gut wrenching and she has doe everything in her power to overcome it. When her Uncle shows up with her brother, who she knew nothing about, claiming it's her turn to take care of him her world jolts. She is more than willing to take on her brother, knowing he has not a lot of good in his life and the fact that he is deaf she knows he needs to have her support in all ways. What she doesn't plan on is CPS trying to wrench him away and when Sloan Lincoln steps into help pretending to be her boyfriend she is not pleased. Yes, the ruse works but now Sloan seems to think that they should actually try to have a relationship. Can she trust him with her deeply hidden secrets or will he betray her like so many others?
This was major tear jerker story. I was not sure I would like Raven's story as she is pretty brash in the other books but she is wonderful. Her past is hard to read but you realize how strong she really is. Sloan is a charmer and completely out of his depth with Raven. Terrific story.
Oh boy...this one really got to me from the start to the finish. We finally learned more about Raven's life and to say that up until she showed up at the shop it was a shit show would be underwhelming. It was due to her past that when her evil incarnate uncle showed up with a 13 year old brother she didn't know anything about, but immediately fully claimed, made perfect sense. Raven didn't even have to think about it for a second, she just took in the boy and went about changing her life to fit him in. I loved that she called in her friends for help, as she needed so much. From finding a new place to live, to getting Falcon kitted out with the normal things kids need, like clothes, to getting him set up for school and learned sign language due to Falcon being deaf. Her list was endless and she knew her girls would help where they could.
The siblings took to each other, a bit warily at first, but as Falcon became more comfortable with Raven, he saw that he was in a safe place and was able to share things with her. Things would have been totally good until a bad CPS agent seemed to have it in for Raven and came after her. With help from Sloane, they were able to put her off, but they all knew it was just the beginning. When the CPS lady made her final move she basically slit her own throat. She pissed Sloane off so much he called everyone in, they called the lawyers and everyone they considered family and the war council commenced. I was just happy that the judge saw what was really going on and acted appropriately. Finally Raven was free of her past and could start to let people in and live her life happy, something she very much deserved.
If you are a fan as I am of the Montgomery series by Carrie Ann Ryan, then you are going to love Raven and Sloan's story. I went through many emotions when reading this heart-wrenching yet moving book. Be prepared for some dark, as well as funny heartwarming and swoon-worthy moments, I guarantee you, you will shed a tear or two but I love how Emily Rose has spaced out brilliantly each of those moments to make Raven a book that once started I couldn't put down.
Raven had a traumatic childhood, one which some of us would not have survived but like a warrior, she clawed her way out of the darkness. Raven now has a great job and a brilliant group of friends, but her life is about to be turned upside down when she has to take on the responsibility of looking after her 13-year brother she never knew. Raven will do everything she can to keep her brother safe and ensure he stays with her, even with the memories of her own past slowly resurfacing, with the CPS breathing down her neck, she ends up agreeing to let her best friends brother, Sloan help her with the CPS, the pair's chemistry is of the charts, the banter between the two just a joy to watch unfold and the spark between them could light up a whole city. But when Raven's past is revealed how will her friends and more importantly Sloan react. Sloan is my hero in this book, totally 💯swoon worthy, he knows what he wants and nothing will change his mind about his growing feelings for Raven, he just has to convince her he is here to stay.
This book does come with Trigger warnings, so be prepared, as you will be taken out of your comfort zone, but one I highly recommend you read.
Bah!! I happy squeaked when I read Sloan's name! I was waiting for this and hoped he would be the other part in Raven's story!! Just gotta say, I spent 3 whole books debating who I could see Raven with. I was a little protective of Raven, even before I got her backstory. Now, Raven & Sloan! Holy hell yes Batman! I'm an absolute fan of this series and the bonds and love you get to watch build. That being said, I would gladly memory wipe the other 3, if forced to only pick one. This book was everything 😍 I laughed, I cried, and I am greedy so I still want more. Raven, I wanna be like you when I grow up! Just don't come after me because I will be worse than Rose when it comes to your Sloan! 🤩 🔥 🤣 Y'all give this book a chance. It is book 4 in the series, and I will promote the other 3 because they are just awesome 🙌 but this can be read as a stand alone in my opinion. So read this. Love my Raven. Join me in loving her Sloan (from afar peoples...she crazy and we love her for it) 💜
Emily did it again with another amazing addition to the Fire & Ink series. This one had heat, passion, heartbreaking back stories, and stubborn yet fully committed sassy attitudes.
Emily masterfully put together this story with a seriously strong badass lead lady in Raven and a sexy, alphamale protector male lead in Sloan. This story packed so much depth, passion, loss and heart mending. I literally felt my heart breaking and then being stitched back together as I read.
The side characters were so well crafted and played such a critical role in the story as a whole. I loved each and every one of them. I can't wait to see how the rest of the series progresses. Job well done (again), Emily!
Let me state that it is best if you read this series in order. WOW! Echoes & Ink is the best book so far in my opinion. This one definitely had my emotions on a rollercoaster. It has everything you expect in a book by Emily and more. Echoes & Ink is a well written story that flows effortlessly from one scene to the next. Sloane and Raven are a perfect for one another and you can feel the chemistry between them. They balance each other out. The supporting characters are balanced throughout the story just right and never take the focus off the main characters. Overall a PHENOMENAL book. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
2 stars instead of 1 because I love Sloan but HATE Raven. She’s needlessly antagonistic and just plain rude and irrational. Again, authors, making your FMC a bitch doesn’t make her a badass. It just makes her a bitch 🫠
WoW ! This story was very emotional, overwhelming at times but with many beautiful moments. Raven story had my emotions all tied up.
This book was just perfection ❤️ Raven is such a beautiful and strong woman, I really fell in love with this girl. I loved how much she is such a bad ass.
What can I say about Sloan ... Alpha male alert right here ! He was just perfect for Raven.
Emily Rose you done it again, what an amazing book. Go put it on your TBR.
** ARC was provided in exchange for my honest review **
I have not read books as good as this series in such a long time !! Emily Rose babe !!! You done it to me again!! This book sets off all my emotions 🖤 I love raven she is my inner bitch but on the inside she try’s too keep herself together and not let overs in Sloan is amazing!! Plus his BD I mean every woman’s dream haha They are made for each over and after reading Nix and the hints in there I would of still never though Raven and Sloan but they are brilliant together 💕
OMG....this book!!! All the feels...I laughed, I cried(man did I cry), I got angry and I got flustered (because it was hot...soooo hot!!) This book was everything..I literally read it in a day because I did not want to put it down....now excuse me while I go and download the other books in this series....
Thanks to Emily for sending over this instalment for me to purge myself on.
Well, I have really committed myself to this series of books and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Let’s start by saying get your tissues ready as will defiantly need them it had me going and reaching for the tissues on more than one occasion. During this book, you get taken through many emotions, laughter, anger and loss. Throughout this, I was constantly routing for Sloan and Raven and loved how their relationship blossomed and finally, Ravens guard slipped to let Sloan in.
I personally felt that this book was extremely well written and touches many sensitive points for people but at all times Emily has taken that into account and made sure she has been extremely sensitive for any person who could be triggered.
This book follows Sloan and Raven. Raven who is badass and has been through the mill. She has been abused when she was a child mentally, physically and sexually but all that has sculpted her into the woman she is today one that doesn’t take any sh*t from anyone. Sloan is a wealthy playboy who is tall and extremely handsome and is the older brother to Raven's good friend Ash, but when he sees Raven in trouble he becomes Ravens White Knight.
The sassy and smexy foul-mouthed receptionist and piercer at Fire & Ink Tattoo shop is here and man, what a story she has!!! We know from previous books that Raven has had a tough past, she has let some things slip but nothing concrete on what has happened to her - well we find out here and oh how I wish I could go back 10/15 years and steal her away and keep her safe!!! She finally had her life on track, a good stable job, real friends, and a life she's happy with when her uncle turns up and leaves her 13year old brother with her - the brother she never even knew existed! In shock and terrified, she's determined to do right by him. But when CPS come knocking, trying to say she's unfit, in steps Sloan... Cue the a$$kicking he gets for stepping in as well as the sizzling attraction!!
It's a good story, heartbreaking at times so be warned that this deals with difficult subjects. It's also heartwarming to see that family isn't always about blood - it's about who will stand beside you no matter what and Raven I seriously lucky she has that.
I recently discovered Emily Rose as an author thru TikTok and I wasn’t sure to give it a try because I am not into MC series, but I am so glad I DID it. Her style is different to the ones I have read in the past and she made me love the MC series I read from her starring Bullet’s club members.
After reading the series, which isn’t done by the way, I jumped to this one and I have really enjoyed every book.
I have to say, Raven and Sloan has been one of my favorite books I have read this year and definitely my favorite in the series.
Raven past is SO painful and it explain so much about the strong woman she is now in the series. I love the funny moments, and Sloan attitude. Not caring that Raven is crazy 😜 and not fearing her.
I definitely recommend this book.
And if you are the type of person who doesn’t like MC series like me but you like this one, I recommend to try her MC series. They are really good and not dark as other MC books. Men are loyal to their woman.
Okay- it’s official I have a girl crush! Raven is a superstar! She’s strong, loyal, and snarky- My favorite kind of bestie. Sloan is all alpha-male and protector. Who doesn’t love that? I was concerned how the need to protect Sloan has would interact with Raven’s independent take no crap attitude, but this author not only made it work- she set the pages on fire with their chemistry! I love it! And Sloan being all bossy in the bedroom definitely earned him a spot in my book boyfriend harem 🥰
Then there is Falcon, who I want to adopt and take home with me! Such a sweet kid! I almost melted when he texted Sloan for help!
And make sure you have tissues near by because you will need them for this one!
PS- I need the MC stories!! Rose and Bullet are hysterical and I want Viper and Shadow to find love too ❤️
Raven and Sloan...holy crap! Hilarious, absolutely (funniest book in series). Heartbreaking, oh my yes! I sobbed, I snotted, I had to put this down and have a private cry...twice. But, OMG this story had everything. Loved it. Loved the premise, the chemistry, characters on point (obviously, it's Emily Rose), great writing in this one. Don't walk, RUN and grab the series!
Series review, down and dirty: absolutely hilarious, I laughed out loud continuously, sexy time was written well and is semi spicy ladies, these characters are amazing 👏 and you absolutely feel their feelings. Easily this series moves into my top 5, and I'm moving to the MC next (thank you, higher powers, for Emily). Please write more from this series 🙏🤌 because it's not enough. It's just not enough.
Run 🏃♀️ for these books. Run 🏃♀️ for this author!!
This was my favorite book of the series. Raven has intrigued me throughout this series. While her upbringing and the things she endured could have brought the entire story down, I think Ms. Rose wrote her story in a way that not only sucked you in and pulled at your heartstrings but had you rooting for a happy ending. Falcon too had grew up in horrible conditions, but was able to overcome everything with the love and support of not only his sister but the entire extended cast. I do wish we heard more from Falcon during the book, and would have liked to see more ASL included.Sloan although an a-hole was the one who really held this whole story together. My only grumble is that the story ended to abruptly for my tastes and I would have appreciated at least two more chapters and an epilogue to wrap up the story and series.
The amount of anger this book pulled out of me is astounding. The absolute FAILURE that CPS accomplished is just horrifying. And then to not only fail two children, but then go after said child that's now an adult and doing better. It disgusts me, not only for what Raven and Falcon suffered, but knowing this happens every day. CPS fails children every day and then tries to screw those who've done nothing wrong. It's infuriating. I'm so glad that Raven got justice. I just wish it happened more in reality. Sloan is amazing for not only being patient with Raven but also helping her through her grief. I love Falcon. He's such a resilient kid!! This book has to be my favorite. Between everything that happened and the resolution, it just made me happy!!
Cue me SOBBING my eyes out. This book really hits hard at your emotions. Raven has been through some shit that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy and people are trying to drag it out for all to see. She’s trying to get custody of her deaf 13 year old brother she just learned about and CPS is fighting her tooth and nail. Nobody has ever been in her corner and she’s always kept her heart and trust close to her. Until Sloan. Sloan comes in like a wrecking ball giving her no choice but to accept his help and fall in love in the process. Readers beware This book is a HEAVY hitter with some real emotional trauma including the death of an infant in the past. 💜 finished this book in just a few hours and loved every second of it, emotional bits and all.
Beautiful! There are some triggers but everything is mentioned not written in detail, Raven is an amazing woman but Sloan is perfect! Supportive and straight, he is the perfect boyfriend, he wants her and fights for her, no hesitation. The sex scenes are hot, he is hot and their chemistry is high!!! You really enjoyed the fun in this series too and the big family in it! I’m crazy about her next series, the MC bikers! Aparently, all of them are pierced… my kind of trope!!! You need to read all of Emily’s books! It’s a safe, romantic and very hot writer! PS: “ I don’t share, I don’t date and I don’t cheat “, Sloan Lincoln said! Just my kind of perfect!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This story is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Raven suffered a very abusive childhood, not only physically, but mentally and psychological as well and sadly Falcon, her younger brother suffered his own physical abuse and is deaf as well, but they have both become stronger for it and have many new loved ones at their backs now, including Sloan. Sloan, his family and the Devils Soldiers MC have embraced both of them. They also sadly had horrible social workers for their cases and to me that it such a gross shame of the state that is supposed to help the innocent. The Judge was my hero in this story. Happy reading.
I’ve read all the Inked series I love them all, but this one tore at my heart strings and made me feel such pleasure, happiness and such extreme sadness that made me cry. It’s everything you want in a book and more. Through all this I’ve learned all the characters and come to live each on individually to the point of me feeling like I know them as people. I’m so excited to read more books of Emily’s as they come out, also….I never thought I’d like Sloan lol biggest asshole but I swear I love him! Lol Raven has always been one of my favourites and this book totally didn’t disappoint
This is such a good read that I find it difficult to actually express all the reasons I loved it. Raven and Sloan are quite the match. What starts as a fake relationship ends with a couple in love. This is filled with family drama, purging of hidden acts of abuse, facing her history, finding a new path forward with the brother she never knew existed and securing her future with her teenage brother and with her man. I laughed at the antics of the women, and cried huge tears as some her past comes out. This is a very good story that I highly recommend be read. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. Hope there are more books in this series yet to be published.
For some reason I read the Inked and the MC series but had this one sitting in KU. This angsty story was so heartbreaking that I had to keep the tissues handy. Raven suffered many kinds of abuse as a child, running away at16 and building a good life with her Ink family and their friends, and the MC. When her 13 year old brother gets dumped on her by her evil uncle, a brother she didn't know she had, who is also deaf, changes have to be made. Everyone helps but Sloan steps up to help fight for Raven and her brother Falcon. Raven's back story is tragic and so sad and haunting it will stay with you long after you are finished reading.
Holy crap Batman! This series was amazing, but Raven and Sloan are my favorite!
I don’t know where to start….this book had all the feels! I laughed so hard, but when I cried, it was heart wrenching! Raven was so strong and overcame so much more than one person should. I absolutely loved how Sloan ALWAYS had her back and never once doubted her. Even when she tried to push him away, there was no way he would allow it.
This series is a definite must read! I would love to see maybe an update novella for the whole group! Until then, I’m going to check out Emily’s next series of the MC!
This book had me rolling with emotion. Raven is a fantastic FMC and Sloan fits her to a T!
Raven is strong and snarky. She’s had to overcome more than most, when it comes to what life has thrown at her….so what’s one more thing? She does what she has to do and has a huge heart. Sloan is perfect for her and nothing will change his mind of that fact. Their chemistry is palpable and I loved seeing their relationship grow.
Raven is an amazing addition to the Fire & Ink series. Emily Rose you’ve done it again!!
And here I was, thinking that after reading Talon’s story this series could not break my heart even more…
I sobbed, and sobbed with Ravens’ story!!!
This story is a rollercoaster of emotions! It will make you laugh… It will make you cry… It will make you squirm… It will make you mad… It will make you sob… But most of all, It will make you appreciate those around you, the ones that supports you and got your back no matter what.
This is what this WHOLE family does for Raven. Be there for her.
