9 books1 followerநா. வானமாமலை (1917 - 1980) தமிழர் நாட்டார் வழக்காற்றியல் முதன்மை ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்களில் ஒருவர், தமிழறிஞர். தமிழரிடையே வழங்கி வந்த நாட்டார் பாடல்களை, கதைகளை, பழமொழிகளை, வழக்கங்களை சேகரித்துப் பதிப்பித்தார். இவரது 22 நூல்கள் 2008-09 இல் நாட்டுடைமையாக்கப்பட்டு, அவரது மரபுரிமையாளர்களுக்கு பரிவுத்தொகையாக 5 இலட்சம் ரூபாய் தமிழக அரசின் தமிழ்வளர்ச்சித் துறையால் வழங்கப்பட்டது

Pallu was a kind of genre that was popular in the Tamil society in the 17th and 18th centuries.
They (Pallu works) actually portrayed the life, work and culture of the farming community (Pallar).
The well known Tamil culture critic and Marxist thinker Naa. Vaanamaamalai had written some series of essays in 1957 on Pallu works. These articles are collected and given in this present collection.
Naa. Vaanamaamalai introduces in simple terms about Pallu literature, speculations about their origin, and how they gained in popularity. Pallu literature which was supposed to be literature on ordinary working class community because of its extreme popularity was adapted by the other communities as well. They they could not change the protagonists (Pallan and his two wives) they changed the look of the work. An original Pallu would exalt the lives of Pallar and their main occupation - agriculture. The Pallu composed by others reduced Pallan and their family to mere servants of the land owning community. They are servants and they are to be treated as such.
