Free To Be
Fear cripples Taiyo.
No matter what he does, he can’t make friends. He can’t approach the girl he’s in love with. He can’t help free his villagers from the Darkane people who enslave them. He can’t help himself.

The best part of why Adam enjoys writing is because he can express himself fully and without any filters of any kind. He can be himself or imagine being something else entirely. Fantasy allows him to be anything he wants and dive inside a life different than anything he can be in this one.

I’ll confess that I had never heard of Adam Lynch or his book Free To Be when I downloaded it. I did not know who he was or what his book was about. I downloaded it because, as a reader and reviewer, one of my greatest joys is discovering awesome new authors. The first thought that came to mind as I started reading was, “Boy, this is really weird.” It was weird, but so well written that the story hooked me, reeled me in, and kept me turning the pages to see where Adam was taking me with this weird tale that he was telling. It wasn’t until I was about fifteen percent of the way into the book that everything made sense to me. Perhaps if science fiction/fantasy was one of my regular genres,. I would have caught on quicker.
Adam Lynch has created a world populated with mythical beast, a human slave can read minds and another that can talk to plants, animals and the earth itself, willing them to do his bidding. These things testing and trying my ability to suspend disbelief. As a rational human being, I know that all these things are irrational and impossible, yet I continue to enjoy the story. Perhaps I have accepted this make believe world and its inhabitants and want to see if Taiyo, Yutto, Akio and the other good guys win the day. Well, we know they will, so maybe I continue to read to find out how they vanquish their slave masters and all the other creatures out to kill them. There’s even a touch of romance, but will the boy get the girl. That’s the question and with the main plot of this story being what it is, that’s a very big question.
Free To Be is an excellent story, it held my interest and attention, and turned out to be a genuine page burner. Once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. Free To Be is a story that has a real moral, something that I seldom find in the books I read and review these days. This is a book that everyone needs to read.

I have to say this was quite an interesting tale. The protagonist is a shy teen trying to get the girl of his dreams to notice him, I found the use of anxiety was written appropriately and accurately. The author uses familiar characters from lore such as the Banshee and fox demon, to create fantastical twists. The language is simple, and easy to read. I found myself wishing for more depth in the characters and world, but I understand the target audience is more inclined for middle school to high school teens. Overall not a bad read, short but full of adventure.

This is one of the best books I think I have read this year. With the exception of Theo‘s insecurities getting on my nerves it was apropos for the storyline and man what a storyline! I wish I was good at giving a summary… I will do my best. Tayo is a slave, Along with the others like him. They are slaves to the Darkain people. They were taken over in force to harvest all their natural resources.. they are taking everything from them with the exception of the one thing they can’t find and that is the one who can read minds. Teo knows who it is as a matter of a fact he is the only one who knows who it is. There is so much more the door Kane doesn’t know and that Theo is at the find out the chance will come for Theo to be able to save his people and freed them but he fails will we get the chance again. I wish I could say more, but me not knowing made the book that much better. It was such an awesome book so much unexpected great things happened. They were twist on top of supernatural twist. I love this book and recommend it to anyone Who loves great world building, plots that makes sense and beyond the under dog being the hero you’ll love this book. I just want to keep going on and on about how great this book was, but you have to read it for yourself it was so good!
