This is an emotionally charged book that tears at the heart. As the family court judge said, it was the most dysfunctional family she’d ever seen. But Ashley and Cody had one big thing going for them. They trusted that God could make right all the wrongs if they kept Him front and center.
What I really, really like about this book is it deals with real life issues, real life struggles. .Yes, it’s fiction but the issues are real. My heart went out to Ashley but I also got very frustrated with her. At times I wanted to jump in-between the pages and give her a good talking to, but then I realized she was a product of having a VERY controlling, obnoxious, dad. It seemed like she never could make her own choices. It was dad’s way or the highway. I sooooo much wanted her to standup to him and her mother too, just once.
Cody was a Godsend. He put up with things few men would. They married, he took to little Emily like he was her biological father. But as life mixes a lot of rain alongside sunshine, Cody and Ashley did their best. And, honestly, I don’t know how Cody put up with all Ashley forced onto him, let alone the rest of her family.
Ashley was an enabler, plain and simple. She let her druggie sister, Paige, run all over her. She always seemed to make excuses for all her family…. mom, dad, sister and even the two precious boys her sister dropped off on her. However, as the book progresses, she does much better and realizes structure is important and the boys can’t always get their way.
👁^👁 OBSERVATIONS:
… My advice to Don, the dad: just because you can physically create a child doesn’t mean you are a dad. I would have loved to see some real growth in his character. (Knocking on the door and saying a rather simple ‘I’m Sorry’ isn’t enough.)
… Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you let them run all over you. Forgiving isn’t overlooking. It does’t let sin continue without confronting it.
… Cody thinks Ashley always forgives, quickly and easily. I can’t help but wonder if she really is forgiving or if she’s in denial.
…Tyler, the first husband was a cheater, an adulterer. Did he ever have to suffer any consequences for his choices? King David was a man after God’s own heart but he still paid a hefty price for his sinful choices.
I was given an advance copy of this book and am leaving my personal thoughts and opinions. I’m always impressed how this author always has a way to draw a reader into the story.
This is T K Chapin’s fifth book in his series Faithful Love and like all the rest I was gripped from the start. It centres around Cody and Ashley, husband and wife and their daughter, Emily. They haven’t got a perfect marriage but one that has Jesus at its heart. It tells of their struggles as Cody parents Emily from Ashley’s previous marriage. As a Christian couple attending church most weeks it tells how their faith is tested as they take on caring for Ashley’s nephews when Ashley’s sister Paige’s drug addiction leaves her unable to care for the boys. Ashley struggles as her parents take Paige’s side and criticise what seems like everything Ashley does. Cody grows spiritually seemingly somewhat quicker than Ashley and totally surrenders his, Ashley’s and their new enlarged family to God. He not only knows God but lives his life depending on Him and the Lord rewards him as God’s plan is worked out in their obedience. When there seems to be no hope in their circumstances God’s plan is revealed as always in the best way possible for all concerned. I couldn’t wait to read on in this book which I find with all the author’s books. Definitely a must read if you want to read about realistic struggles and finishing the book inspired me that all of us have our faith tested at times but if we ‘let go and let God’ everything works out for the best. Can’t wait for the next book ❤️
What a wonderful story of God's love and work in the lives of His children. Amidst all the drama in Cody and Ashley's lives He continues to be faithful and help them to grow and mature in their relationship with Him, each other and family members. I especially enjoyed seeing how Cody became the husband, father, leader in the home that God intended as he learned to trust the Lord in everything. This is such a realistic story with very human characters and common situations in today's culture. I love the way Mr. Chapin addresses tough issues in his books and shows how it is God Who has all of the answers. This book is one of his best in my opinion. I can't wait for his next release!
I requested this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review.
“The hardest thing about doing the right thing is that it’s usually the most unpopular thing to do at the time.” In this story that both touched my heart and challenged me in my Christian walk, we meet Ashley and Cody who are facing some hard life circumstances and trying to find their way. They are trying to do the right thing in regards to their marriage, in raising her sisters 2 kids, in regards to her parents and their demands, and in regards to their faith. I felt for and related to their difficulties snd their struggles with trusting God through it all. As it says in the book “it’s during those times we dread, those hard and painful moments, that we are able to see Him shine the brightest.” An inspirational delight.
T.K. Chaplin writes such heart rendering stories. Each time he covers a topic and shows what happens when God is allowed to move in and through the circumstances. Cody and Ashley struggled through family contentions when they stepped in to provide a stable environment for their nephews. But instead of the hurdles they faced causing them to stumble, they placed their trust in God and he brought them into a deeper walk in their relationship not only with God but also a deeper relationship with their immediate and extended families. I highly recommend this book.
Hope that lasts A family that is broken. A couple that can have no children. A sister that has two - but she is a drug addict . . . and is more interested in that than her boys. And when they take the boys it is difficult. And only through the grace of God can they have hope. This story is well worth reading and meditating on!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
In this book you will read about a family struggling with a drug addiction and the welfare of small children. Cody and Ashley are truly inspirational people who are willing to help their nephews. T.K will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next to this family. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful story. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
Cody and Ashley have many hurdles to overcome in their marriage. I won't say what they are because I would like for you to read this book. It has helped me to really understand the biblical definition of forgiveness. T. K. Chapin has done a wonderful job with bible verses in this book to correspond with the situation they are facing. This is a very interesting and inspiring story.
I have gotten so much insight into myself and various situations I have faced. The strong Biblical basis of all his books makes every one a solid choice.
I think the only downside of starting one of this author's books is that I can't put them down. I have to be sure I have everything that should be done finished. If I don't nothing will get done until I finish his book..
This book is so good. These characters are like everyday people, with everyday problems, including feeling like they are at the end of their rope, and learning to rely on God. If you enjoy Christian fiction, then I highly recommend this book and this author. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review.
This is a beautiful story about love, family, and finding strength in God to get through the hard times. Would you take in your sisters kids if she struggles with addiction? Would you stand in the gap to keep them safe when she would want them back yet still be using drugs? When it looks like your family has turned against you, can you trust God to see you through?
Ashley finds her life uncontrolled and her future very uncertain. With one failed marriage due to her husband being unfaithful sh e is unable to move forward. Soon she gets acquainted with Cody who eventually asks her to marry him. Life gets kind of muddy when her sister walks out on her two sons due to drugs and the wrong men in her life.
This book is a perfect example of what it means to put our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. These people had very real problems and even baggage from the past. The way they acted through was very real. I loved the way they trusted in the Lord for so many things. Very well done!
Ashley and Cody are married, she has a little girl from a previous marriage but they can't have kids. They are devastated. They take on her sisters boys that turns the family upside down. We are the ups and downs of their relationship as they bring their extended family together.
This time turnstile delves into addiction and the destruction it can have on the family, especially children. Even when someone is willing to take up the slack and intervene for the children's sake, it is not easy. But with God's help and intervention all things are possible.
This story shows what sin, saving grace, God's unfailing live and forgiveness can do in lives of Christians and non-Christians. God is ALWAYS in control. We live in a fallen and si full world, but God is greater. Through the Loveland sacrifice of Jesus Christ we all can live fruitful, forgiven lives in this fallen world.
As always a thought provoking, self examining read. This is the first time in this author’s books where I really, really disliked some characters. All is well that ends well. Could not stop reading till the end.
This creation by T.K. Chapin is beyond captivating on so many levels. It speaks to many challenges in today’s world with overwhelming evidence only one solution…we must turn to and trust God through everything always.
T.K. Chapin should be a pastor, if he isn’t. When I first started this book felt rather hopeless with all the drama. As Cody and Ashley rely on the Lord and really have faith and trust in Our Lord, their story starts to change.
This is an excellent “deep” book. We can all learn from it.
Cody and Ashley took in their two nephew's while Ashley's sister was in therapy because they knew it's what was right. It was hard work.but then knew it is what the lord would want them to do. I never have trouble getting into this author books and luckily I got to read it free.
I love this book! I love how this book illustrates God’s plan is always better than anything we can plan. I love how T.K. writes about the characters having real life problems and even though though mistakes are made, they still turn to God and trust Him.
This book is full of hope and inspiration. It shows God's amazing power when we turn every thing over to Him and follow what He wants us to do. I can't do this book justice in a review, all I can say is please read this book.
As always, a story of faith and the spiritual growth possible on all levels, in families with multiple emotional and addiction concerns, when God is permitted to lead the way !
This is a very good story about love and family and triald Paige is an addict and a mother she drops her children off with her sister and the trials begin but faith in God and trusting in his word prove powerful and effective
This was a great book. I had a hard time to stop reading. It shows true 💘 even through tough times. So glad it turned out good for the whole family. God is good all the time.
The series approached today's problems in families and the real struggles and our inability to see ourselves for who we truly are. Sinners, needing forgiveness and Jesus to help and guide us daily in all things.
How does not being able to have children lead to a life of saving two young boys and building a family with the love of God helping raise the two troubled boys.
This was a great story. I love the characters and how the story is real world issues. I love that the story shows how to rely on God in all circumstances.
